I want to convert my mercedes truck to an electric windows and this video show exactly what to do, even switches i wanted to use are same. Thank you for this mate. Also best explanation of wiring
That's a great explanation of how each set up works. Being a visual learner that helps a ton. I'm adding power windows and locks to a vehicle that didn't originally have them so this is definitely a light in the tunnel 😅.
Love this video.. for years I have been trying to use Car Window motors for some Halloween animated projects. Car windows have some serious torque which I need to some heavy props. But never figured out how to make stepper motor for spin continuous ... until now.
Have to love relays and how to use them, I didn’t have the plow truck side wiring so I used relays for my own lighting control 5 years ago. Great video Jeremy, the window motors usually cut off when stopped at a high draw simulating window stop. But seeing that they are a motor circuit the rule of thumb is 1.25 x amps for motor degeneration etc. Keep up the great work, your car club friend 👍🏻
So so good. Thank you so much. Great explanation. For my learning, and maybe this is bc Im noob, but I like to focus slowly on the flow of electricity. Not that you didnt do that here, you def did, but I had to pause a bit. Really great, enjoy this and grateful for this very much.
what a fine thing you are doing here. I have an old tractor with a 24 volt starter that used a series/parallel switch(relay/solenoid). I had problems with the switch all the time. It had 2 80-amp aluminum fuses right on the switch which would frequently burn out. The actual switch for the tractor is crazy exspensive for this old Russian tractor. So I am in the process of rewiring it. I am, and always have been scared of wiring. As I dont know how it works, very well. I would pretty much glaze over when trying to deal with it. The more of your videos I watch, the fog is starting to lift. Particularly in this video, as you explain the relay. The way my tractor was set up, you only needed 24 volts to start, everything else is 12 volts. I bought a 70 amp 24 volt alternator and a continuous 4 pin 250amp 24-volt solenoid. I also have a 2000-watt 24-volt inverter(for AC onboard power) that I want in that circuit. The alternator that I bought from Amazon is a DB ELECTRICAL ADR0047, it has 4 posts on it. Post R tests about 13.8 volts, post AT tests about 28.4 volts, post I also tests 28.4 volts, 4th post is ground. I have a 2awg copper strand for this circuit. I am unsure of what fuse to use here? The old setup was an 80 amp, so that is at least a good place to start. The problem is , it would frequently burn out. The engine at the front and, the batteries in the back, so about 7-8' separates the starter and batteries..maybe this is where the current surge on start burns fuses? My thinking here is to use pole AT on the altenator to make a circut for the starter and the inverter. The tractor already has a big heavy ground switch that I would also like to have in this circuit to avoid parasitic drain. Then I would like to use pole R for the accessories...lights, wipers, etc. I would love to send you pictures of my project if I knew how. Any direct help you could give me to achieve my goals would be greatly appreciated.

Wonderful video and content ! May I suggest, on your breadboard to the left of the pin number identification area, you draw a square large enough to display a representation of the pins on the bottom of a 4 or 5 pin relay and label each pin as well. converting my manual window ranger to power windows using the OEM switches. This video is by far the best I’ve seen in making it understandable and simple. only thing I think I’ll have to wrap my head around is wiring both doors off the double switch setup like it currently is, wouldn’t I just bridge the switches like in a car audio sub woofer set up? Or like a double switch light in a house for a single bulb?
Outstanding video. Regarding the relayed solution: How would you wire two switches to control one motor the way factory power windows work? Like how the driver side has the additional switch for controlling the passenger window motor. Would you just jumper the three switch wires to the additional switch?
Yes - that’s the way I would do it. However, it’s sometimes nice to do the splices it different spots of the wire, instead of all of them at one (messy) connector. Now that I type this, I’m realizing that I should make a video about this topic. :D Good luck with your windows!
Well this makes wiring a window motor and switch for a completly different vehicle for what its going into much simpler..explained better than the factory wiring diagram 😂
Curious can i used the second method with the 2 relays for right and left window regulator at a time or I'll have to make a next circuit fir individual doors
Is it possible to use two switches to control the one motor? Would I just wire the 2nd switch into the same trigger wires? Or is there a different way to do it Thanks anyone who helps!
Using the B+ or negative term would be easier for others to follow. Same with the window motor B+ now or reversed to ground. Terminals on relays don’t change, but wire colors do! Also, GM places a polymer NTC thermistor inside the motors connector. If current goes too high, it gets hot and opens the circuit. This prevents damage to the motor itself if completely down or up and held. Ut reset once current is removed. I can’t speak for other brands of motors. Never took those apart!
hello sir! Great Tutorial very clear. please make a tutorial for wiring combining two power windows where you can power them up/down with one switch and also can power them up/down separately with another switch. 1 switch for LEFT, 1 switch for Right and 1 switch for combined. thank you!

Since I couldn’t find any color coded wiring diagram, all I need to know is how is the front right passenger wiring harness connected to the main driver window wiring harness. If splice. Am I able to control the passenger window from driver main window controller? Your help is very well appreciated.
Is it possible for the relayed circuit to power two motors at once? So to have the two Pin30 blue wires split into 2 for one motor and 2 for another so you can put two windows up and down at the same time off off one switch?
Excellent video. Is there a way of adding a 3rd switch in so the passenger window can be operated by the driver? Rhd car. Bought a electric window kit for my van that come with 6 pin switches that don't match up with the ones in the wiring diagram so im a little stuck 🤔
Hello and thank you for your great job. I have a question for you. I am thinking on trying relay way on a smaller 12v motor. This motor is in always falling hot to cold door in a truck duct system. Basically it turns this little door from ac evaporator to heat radiator and back as needed, as most good working units. My concern is on when to stop pushing the on button so I don’t strip a warm gear or brake hinge on that door. Is there any light 💡 indicator could be installed in the wire chain or something that will stop it from damaging itself. If you could make that video that would be very interesting because it’s for cars and trucks , something simple and reliable and thanks again👍
I just bought a 6 pin switch and would prefer doing the relays now, is okay to use it? do I just wire one side of the 6 pins like the 3 pin switch in the video?
Great instructional video, THANKYOU! Any idea how I connect my new 2 pin actuator motor to a 6 pin connector in the door? In fact its a 5 pin as one pin is not in use. Any help from anyone really appreciated.
Great explanation, it confirmed for me that I had my actuator wired correctly. The problem I'm having is the actuator motor housing is getting grounded when mounted to the chassis. It runs in one direction just fine, but will short and blow the fuse when the polarity is reversed. I have tried to create isolators at the mounting points, but it's used for a parking brake, and that only last so long until it grounds its self again. Should the actuator motor be grounded under this scenario, or is there another solution? Thanks
this is the configuration i was looking for so i have pink wire 12 gauge from main harness to pin 87 on relay with a fuse 30 amp, question is 16 gauge is normal gauge to wire the same configuration as yours or as my fuse wire is 12 gauge i have to use ticker wire from switch to relay to window motor?
Ive been patiently waiting for this video. Working on an 02 Mustang race car with electric windows and now my problems are solved. Im assuming I could use the same set up for door locks??? Great videos and THANK YOU!
Haha! I’m glad you like the video! I would think that door locks would be the same, though I haven’t tried it. I may grab a couple door lock actuators and try it!
this is very helpful. but how will i wire a positive switch instead of a negative switch . I'm using the same switch on my can window and the positive is in the center pin. how will I connect to the relay.or is it still the same but not grounded instead it's a positive wire is hooked up. thank you for any response
Can you show Me, what component inside the framelsess door. Because i interesting, why when you want to open, the glass door automatically opens slightly. Do you know.? It's cool for me
Great work. Quick question How many 13amp window motors can you run off those 2 relays? I thought i red you can parallel the window switches but what happens of they all four are being used at the same time will that pop the fuse? Or do you need 8 relays for 4 windows? Thanks for your help in advance
What a great video🙂....very interesting would like to try it out ....I have a question on how the power suddenly cuts off to the window motor when the window reaches the top or bottom...
I did too, and that’s why I grabbed it with pliers at the end. To be honest, I expected the fuses to blow, and they didn’t. I may need to take apart a window motor to find out how it works.
@@WiringRescue ok that will be great to find out ...because those motors have lots of power if there isn't something that cuts off the power something breaks.
Do you know what to do with a 5 pin switch? (VW T4) I got the wiring diagram and it's obviously not as easy as positive pin to positive 2 negs to negative and middle 2 pins to the window wires. What am I missing?
Hi Jeremy Many thanks for your very excellent videos. I have tried quite few of them successfully but for this one, the motor doesn’t want to move. Both wires show positive and seems the polarity doesn’t change. The motor works well if connected directly to positive and negative. Actually when activate one relay the other one pin 30 which is supposed to be grounded lights up my test screw driver. Any idea of what I am doing wrong? Many thanks in advance
Hi Jeremy, Love your channel your wiring videos are great! You reduced my four 4 pin relay design to run a power window down to one switch! Got a question / challenge. I retired in 2022 so one of my goals or projects is I'm building a 1983 280ZX drag car (old school SBC power with Carb) with some 18-20 year olds from my church. Mentoring is an exercise of patience. We gutted the entire electrical system but now want to create a circuit to operate both LH & RH windows off switches (preferably the OE switches) on the drivers door, and retain an operable RH passenger side window switch while the main power in on. Our plan was to use 5 pin relays, but how do we add a third switch? Thanks, Ed G.
That’s a solid question that I think I need to think through and get back to you. Also thanks for the kind words about the channel and mentoring younger folks! I’ve always wanted to be an automotive teacher / hotrod builder, but found that I can reach a huge audience with UA-cam videos. So I’m doing my best, like you, to pass on whatever I can to others while Im still able to do so! Thanks for what you do and I’ll try to figure out your scenario and get back to you.
@@WiringRescue I believe after I asked you that I found a solution. I believe I can (with a 5 pin relay solution) just wire another 3 terminal momentary switch in parallel with the first switch. Now I have to disasseemble the doors to see what type of switches Nissan used!
pin 86 on relay can be connected to ignition switch on acc terminal? as my fuse wire is 12 gauge with 30 amp fuse how tick the wire to ignition switch must be?
I know this video is over a year old now, do you have or can you do one one wiring in new aftermarket switches for a 2dr, master with passenger switch and a seperate switch for passenger also. Cheers!
Good evening, thank you very much for sharing your valuable knowledge. I would like your help. My car ( Toyota Aygo ) on the driver's door does not have a switch for the passenger's window, so I took extra new wires from the (passenger's) window plug and put them on the driver's door. All good so far the new switch I put in the driver's door for the passenger window works but when I press the switch on the passenger door to roll down or up the window it doesn't work. In short, the new switch on the driver's door works while the old one does not. Do I have to put a relay like in the video you uploaded with the lamps ( 5 Pin Relay Wiring For Beginners | Diagram | @WiringRescue ) in the third version or is it a mistake? If you have not created a similar video, it would be good to do it to help others. Thank you very much
Hello! Great video. I have a question. Do the power window motors have a built-in stop? ( Load Sensor)In other words, if you hold the switch up or down, will the motor sense the top or bottom and stop?
This is an amazing instructional! If I want to control the relay circuit with 2 different switches (example: one switch at each door, both running the passenger window motor) would I just wire the second switch in parallel with the first one?
great video! As I am trying to learn about how to convert my square body chevy manual to power windows (using stock parts hopefully) there is one thing I still dont understand after watching your video. You have clearly shown how to wire the motors up, but my question is this... In a normal factory power window set up the windows stop automatically when you push the switch and the window reaches its maximum height. But in the case of your video you would have to let off the button just as the window reaches its maximum height.. How do the old school (86 chevy truck) factory power windows just automatically stop at the max window height? I am trying to install factory pwr windows into my chevy using stock parts.. Thank you for answering my long question.. LOL

Your help is very well appreciated.
Is it possible for the relayed circuit to power two motors at once? So to have the two Pin30 blue wires split into 2 for one motor and 2 for another so you can put two windows up and down at the same time off off one switch?
Yes that is how it would be done. Double up the amps though for the fuse and for the wire before it is split.
Thanks Is it possible to setup just one single push switch?
Great videos thank you alot great content 👍
I’m glad you are enjoying them! Thanks for watching!
Excellent video. Is there a way of adding a 3rd switch in so the passenger window can be operated by the driver? Rhd car. Bought a electric window kit for my van that come with 6 pin switches that don't match up with the ones in the wiring diagram so im a little stuck 🤔
That was a great video!
Awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful content❤
Thank you! I’m glad that so many folks enjoy the videos that I make! I appreciate you watching!
I have one question how would you wire up a window with 2 switches one to be on the passenger door and the other to be on the driver side
Thanks
Thanks for the video. How do I add a second motor to the relay design?
this is the configuration i was looking for so i have pink wire 12 gauge from main harness to pin 87 on relay with a fuse 30 amp, question is 16 gauge is normal gauge to wire the same configuration as yours or as my fuse wire is 12 gauge i have to use ticker wire from switch to relay to window motor?
Excellent explanation. I am using this set up right now. I would like to know what gauge wires you are using?
Ive been patiently waiting for this video. Working on an 02 Mustang race car with electric windows and now my problems are solved.
Im assuming I could use the same set up for door locks???
Great videos and THANK YOU!
Haha! I’m glad you like the video! I would think that door locks would be the same, though I haven’t tried it. I may grab a couple door lock actuators and try it!
@@WiringRescue I'll be patiently waiting. Thank you again!!!
Thanks, l was always concerned about how l was going to not break anything on closing the windows, the relay seems to ease the hit
this is very helpful. but how will i wire a positive switch instead of a negative switch . I'm using the same switch on my can window and the positive is in the center pin. how will I connect to the relay.or is it still the same but not grounded instead it's a positive wire is hooked up. thank you for any response
done doing this..big thanks..
You’re very welcome! Congrats on your windows!
Would the switched relay motor also work with a power side switch as well? If not, what would be the reason to keep a ground side switch?
So good of a video nobody noticed his nails ... thanks
You mean where I smashed it with a hammer? Yeah. That wasn’t great. It’s healed now though! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for Sharing, very informative 👍 new Subscribers and followers....
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! Good luck with your project!
Thanks for the help just learn something thanks
I’m happy that you found it useful!
Can you show Me, what component inside the framelsess door.
Because i interesting, why when you want to open, the glass door automatically opens slightly.
Do you know.?
It's cool for me
I'm already subscribe, because youre video make me interesting.
GOOD JOB🎉🎉🎉
The electric windows automatic function is controlled by the sliding contacts inside the window motor mechanism.
@@tonyreyes9969 Thanks... I hope to find one open so i see how they work..
Do you know what to do with a 5 pin switch? (VW T4) I got the wiring diagram and it's obviously not as easy as positive pin to positive 2 negs to negative and middle 2 pins to the window wires. What am I missing?
Hi Jeremy
Many thanks for your very excellent videos.
@@edwardgawrych1828 - that does sound about right to me! Hopefully it’s easy to make it work!
pin 86 on relay can be connected to ignition switch on acc terminal? as my fuse wire is 12 gauge with 30 amp fuse how tick the wire to ignition switch must be?
Thank you very much
Would this work with power lock actuators? Another great video, really enjoy these!
I would think so, though I haven’t tried it. Maybe I should!
Hello! Great video. I have a question. Do the power window motors have a built-in stop? ( Load Sensor)In other words, if you hold the switch up or down, will the motor sense the top or bottom and stop?
If it has pinch protection it will, otherwise, broken fingers..
Thank you very much......😍😍
Am happy to be here. I mean, wow.
Glad the video helped you out!
Good video
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it!
This is an amazing instructional! If I want to control the relay circuit with 2 different switches (example: one switch at each door, both running the passenger window motor) would I just wire the second switch in parallel with the first one?
Yep! That sounds like it should work! Thanks for watching!
Can i control the second circuit with positive current?
Waiting for wideo explaining how to make motors stop on its own when they open or close in full
great video! LOL
This is something I don't say very often..... great video
Thank you! I really appreciate it. If you liked this one, you may also enjoy some of my other wiring videos. This one is my personal favorite - ua-cam.com/video/Yz9kqxWkoHI/v-deo.html
