  • First time i ever taken a look into sensor / track bars and i decided to convert it to external power. some of them can be powered from USB too, depending on the voltage.
    This one im using is 7.5v, usb is 5v. Sensor bar that has 6 IR LEDs in total is 5v.

    the lighter part was great, learned something new, great video!

    The part about cleaning the wires was the thing that made this video the most helpful one I could find.
    Cleaning the wires will allow you to make basically any connection you want. I chose to twist the stripped wires from a 9V battery clip together with the ones that lead to the sensor bar, and with some electrical tape it works perfectly!
    Thanks for making this video :D

      ah ah i can't believe this old crappy quality video still gets views, but yeah i always do stuff like that myself. i always twist wires rather than using connectors, because twisting has more surface contact, but "experts" dont realize it, they think some screw fit connector is better. only better way is to solder wires, which would give it best connection.
      that burn and clean works great on thin fragile wires, cuz you can't really use wire strippers on it.

      most wires have this coating if they are a retail product to prevent crossover of + and -

    • @Destron5683
      @Destron5683 Місяць тому

      @@yourmomsbf878 the challenge here is the type of wire. All wires will have this coating but can be easily stripped with wire strippers. These are so tiny and fragile the wire strippers break them.

      @@SethiozProject at first i didn't believe you because of the like/ dislike ratio, but i think that people just didn't understood it right or didn't game the bar enough power, i tried with only 3 AA batteries and the lights were very faint, USB 2.0 also gave a very faint light..

      I'm about to try with a 9V too, but I believe the sensor bar works with 7V plugged in the Wii.
      Wonder if that may be an issue...

    I was just looking into how to convert a Wii sensor bar so it can run off of USB, and saw this video.
    Thanks for posting this. That trick with cleaning up the wires is one I've never seen before. Should come in handy!
    And, I just wanted to note, the script you were running was NOT using the sensor bar! It was only using the gyroscope in the Wiimote to see if you were pointing down, up, left or right, but not WHERE you were pointing.

    Nintendo loves their proprietary "tri wing" screws in stuff. started with the NES. good vid ,✌️

  • @mwoodj
    @mwoodj 7 років тому +3

    Those are tri wing screws which is what Nintendo uses on most of their consoles. You can get a tri wing screwdriver for a couple bucks. Keep one around for opening Nintendo products.

    as far as i know, wiimote with sensorbar doesn't know where you point the device, on wii itself, you can calibrate probably, but that's what the sensorbar is, its not even sensorbar, its just IR LEDs, not sensor. sensor is in the wiimote.
    if you would have 4 IR LEDs all around monitor / tv, then it would be possible to tell the position, but i doubt wiimote is capable of doing that on its own, you need scripts.

    Using usb om the sensor bar as is will not get you any good results. So what I did was remove the 4 LEDs on the edges on each curcuit board, and solder 2 wires to connect them to the psu. This way it doesn't need 7,5v but anywhere between 4,5v - 7v. And since a standard usb port only gives you 5v, it works perfect.

    • @homebrewGT2
      @homebrewGT2 3 місяці тому

      So you left only 1 LED on each side? And that works fine?

  • @Eraknelo
    @Eraknelo 11 років тому +1

    I don't think you really got what I said... I know the "sensor" bar is just 10 LED's, 5 on each side (for extra strength, btw. The remote just picks up 2), but I'm saying that, the sensor bar had no use in your demonstration in this video.
    Your cursor was moving on behalf of the accelerometer/gyroscope in the controller. There's programs that allow you to use it like on the actual Wii, where you point at the screen, and that's where the cursor goes.

    • @dorukayhanwastaken
      @dorukayhanwastaken 5 років тому +2

      No. The "sensor" bar is just four IR LEDs that power on when you turn on the Wii - the Wii Remote deduces where it's pointing by looking at where those LEDs are. You can even test this with Dolphin Emulator like so:
      1) Open a title that uses the pointer for things. Wii Fit. Wii Sports Resort. Wii Menu. Lego Star Wars 3. Anything that wants you to point your Wii Remote at the screen.
      2) Connect your remote to Dolphin in passthrough mode (wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Bluetooth_Passthrough ).
      3) Turn your actual Wii on. This will power the sensor bar.
      4) Point the remote in the sensor bar's general direction and watch Wii's motion control magic unfold before your eyes.
