How to use Mayflash Dolphinbar as a regular sensor bar

- In this second tutorial, you will learn how to properly use a Mayflash Dolphinbar as a generic sensor bar for maximum accuracy instead of throwing it away and buying a new one. You will need to download a "beta" firmware and flash it to your Mayflash Dolphinbar.
There are two main problems with Mayflash Dolphinbar.
First, its proprietary driver makes calibration impossible, forcing the player to drag the crosshair on screen.
Secondly, it cannot be used as a regular IR sensor bar since its LEDs shut down after some inactivity if no Wiimote is connected to it (30s). This was introduced in latest firmware 1.09 which every Mayflash Dolphinbar nowdays have.
This beta firmware allows using a new mode: the IR LEDs are powered for 4 hours straight. Afterwards, they turn off. Since it becomes a regular sensor bar, sync button is disabled in this mode only. You need a separate Bluetooth dongle/chipset to connect your Wiimote. This update is only for newer Mayflash Dolphinbar model (it has a power switch behind, next to "sync" button).
In addition, multiplayer becomes possible instead of one Wiimote per Mayflash Dolphinbar for light gun games because you are no longer pairing to it.

FYI: New Update is available with ViGEm connector plugin. Now its also compatible with RetroArch for example or other third party tools. I hope this brings incompatibility to a minimum.

Do Batocera and Retropie use the same calibration program?
Currently, when I use the lichtknarre with the Wiimote and apply the Windows API plugin, the mouse cursor is fixed in the upper right corner. If I use the VJoy plugin, the cursor pauses briefly when passing through the center of the screen. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I'm confused, I have a dolphin bar with wiimotes on Batocera 33 and everything works fine, if I update to 35 will it stop working
My x axis is inverted, any insights into the problem?

I was considering to buy a Mayflash dolphin bar, nevetheless, batocera suggests to use a simpler bar-led (similar to the one from Wii).
Would it be ok to use on of those ~10 USD USB sensor bars that sold on Amazon?

This tutorial is only if you have a Mayflash Dolphinbar. If you don't own one, simply get a generic sensor bar. It does exactly the same job, minus the integrated Bluetooth chipset (because it's only IR LEDs).

Hello, first of all kudos for this awesome video! I recently got dophin bar to replace the bluetooth adapter i was using with Lichtknarre as it is able to instantly connect the Wiimotes. But every time i try to use the dolphin bar on either mode 3 or 4, Lichtknarre does not show the connected Wiimotes, or it will simply crash. I'm i supposed to use special mode with the bluetooth adapter for Lichtknarre to work? Thanks!
You need a separated Bluetooth module for the Wiimotes to connect. You can't if you connect to the mayflash dolphinbar. This video is only for the special mode which makes it possible to calibrate. So yes.
how do you calibrate in batocera?? I'm using a pi 5 for an arcade cabinet build. I got the firmware and pressing the home for 3 seconds goes into calibration I do the middle then goes to the left top and after this I have no sites at all
You are too close. Back off. Hide one side of the sensor IR bar and center the other part at the top of the display. Aim properly.

Of course! Simply change the mode like you usually do and resync your Wiimote with the Dolphinbar.

You can't. Windows only.
Does the Lichknarre program only work with a 1080p screen? When it loads the program gets extremely small, and the gun calibration screen only shows a corner, but does not go full screen.
I had the same problem. It is sensitive to scaling (some screen are using higher than 100%). Mine was at 150%. I had to scale down to 100% to see everything. But I think this is a common issue with 2K and 4K screens.

Yes, you will be able to. The beta firmware only adds a new mode, let's call it "mode 5". That's it.

Oui, n'importe quelle lumière infrarouge de haute intensité fera l'affaire. Ou quelconque barre. Tant que la Wiimote voit les lumières.
Il est nécessaire pour une calibration quasi-parfaite sur Windows. Il permet aussi la gestion multi-wiimotes.
Oui, c'est compatible avec n'importe quel setup.

did you connect the wiimote directly to the dolphinbar or with a bt dongle?
Dongle. My setups all have integrated BT module, so no need for a dongle. If you don't have any BT capabilities, a dongle is then required.
Is there a calibration on that thing. Like on some Wii games the pointer is way off. some games have calibration and than it works amazing.
If you are on Batocera, all Wii gun games with a gun icon have been calibrated and configured to play with light guns (with some exception for games requiring the nunchuk). Games without it are not configured at all. If playing on Windows, you need to get the Dolphin-Lightguns-Accuracy-Inis (easily found on google/Github).

The dophinbar could connect two wiimote after disable sync funtion. Right?
As long as you connect your wiimotes to your BT/Wifi chipset/module and NOT the Mayflash Dolphinbar. I've tested up to 4 wiimotes at the same time. Works fine.

@@darksunwu3805 You can go as high as 8 wiimotes, but I doubt Wii gun games support that many wiimotes.
how can i connect 2 wii remotes? i buying the big bundle that comes with 2 wii motes and 2 nunchucks do i press sync on both remotes?
You need a bluetooth device to connect to. Simply sync your wiimotes to your BT chipset/module by pressing the sync button. One wiimote at the time.

@@RHINOZIP1 no need for touchmote. I've given in the video and its description the tools you need. Lichtknarre if you intend to play on Windows. Batocera if you want a bootable retrogaming OS. And yes, use a bt dongle if you have no bt capabilities.

It is not compatible with a second monitor. The monitor in which you calibrate stays in it. Unless you calibrate both screen, but it will break the true accuracy.
Hi there! Thank you for this great video! After the update, I pressed the mode button for 3 seconds (mode 4). One more light appears on the Dolphin bar. But nothing happens with Wii remote. I hold home button for 3 seconds. Nothing happens. (There is only 1 light on wii remote. The first light on the left. What am I doing wrong?
Once you are in that special mode, you need to connect your Wiimote to your system. Not the mayflash dolphinbar. It's BT module is disabled in this mode. Then, depending on your setup, you start the calibration. If your Wiimote is not an official one, it won't work

Is it actually dead on with where you are aiming? I always had the crosshairs on and had to aim lower because the aim was so incredibly off.
I would say it is 95% accurate yes
95% is better than nothing. Until i can shell out the big bucks for one of the expensive light guns this will work. Thanks for posting this I am going to drag my dolphin bar out of my closet and hope for the best 😂
Well I set everything up mame doesn’t recognize any button input on the wiimote for some reason. Do you have any ideas? Maybe I missed a step.
@@nickbag88 firmware is not enough in Windows. You need to keep either one of the two applications I've demonstrated in this video (WiimoteGun / Lichtknarre) so you can calibrate and use its buttons.
The cursor can only go down to a certain height, the bottom of the screen seems inactive. What to do?
You are too near. You need to back off a bit more. The wiimote doesn't see the IR light.

@@Karnegon Sadly, this is a hardware limitation of the Wiimote. The best would be to put an IR led in the center of your screen, but that's pretty much impossible.
@@Karnegon solder some LEDs and try the 4 LED TRacker instead :D

It's not important. You only need one IR light to work. 3 vs 5, it doesn't matter.

@@felixdx7712 Hombre disculpa te molesto, no hablo bien ingles y no he entendido mucho, lo del video si es algo que busco, pero antes de llegar ahí tengo un problema, tengo la barra la compre en amazon y los controles, conecta y todo bien, pero al momento de jugar en Dolphin el emulador, no me los reconoce, ya realice todo lo que dicen en los tutoriales, como colocar en el emu, controles reales de wi, escaneo continuo, etc, pero de ninguna forma jala me podría ayudar :(? por cierto uso windows 11
@@victormedina7006 la dolphin bar cuando la usaba para el emulador dolphin no me pescaba los controles porque eran pirata me conseguí original y funciona ahora el tema es que en tecnologia la mayflash la dolphin bar quedo atrasada y es mejor conectar los Wii mote directamente al pc via Bluetooth y la barra dolphin usarla como una barra normal que solo de luz IR para los controles ahora sí tus wiimote no conectan al pc son repro.
La dolphin bar la deje generica que solo de luces para no comprarme otra además las de alixpres solo traen 3 luces y no 5

La maj est faite mais en passant en mode épic bar comme tu dis . la barre n'est plus reconnue et impossible de regler quoi que ce soit ... tu as peut être de quoi me sauver ?
C'est normal puisque l'activation du mode 5 (ou "épique") nécessite un adaptateur ou module bluetooth séparé de la mayflash dolphinbar. Elle ne sera plus reconnu. Il faut donc se connecter sur un tier module bluetooth (carte mère, clé bluetooth, etc). La mayflash devient qu'une simple barre d'infrarouge.

Régler le Gun sur une telle surface parait très improbable pour le moment.
Tu aurais une solution ?
@@cptfrakass1 Tu peux! C'est même la meilleure option : tu dois placer une (une forte de préférence, mais seule) lumière infrarouge au milieu de l'image projetée. Elle te servira de point de référence et tu auras une calibration parfaite. Sinon, ça marchera quand même, mais tu dois avoir une très grande distance puisque la surface de l'image est énorme.

I'm connected direct on my PC and I wanted a sensor bar...
And what a supprise when I saw that it worked just when the sync light flash. Look at the notice... What ? You must be connected to the sensor bar for the infrared LED work...
It's hard to unplug an USB to shut down the infrared light ?! What a joke.

Comme je l'énnonce, l'appareil Mayflash Dolphinbar force l'utilisateur à s'y connecter pour le garder allûmé. Si aucune Wiimote n'est connectée, l'appareil s'éteint. C'est pourquoi ce firmware béta existe, afin de justement maintenir les lumières infrarouges allûmées même si aucune Wiimote n'y est connectée.
can I still use the bar as normal with this new firmware? Also...will this work with a crt 240-480i too?
