Not so many learners really know about this kinda way of acquire English, but always pick up this way of watching the native moving his or her mouth and gestures to put this information into us, it's like we are receiving directly every time or day that makes my English improved better and better gradually until people around me get surprised how I can speak or remember a lot of English. Because I know how to get it.

Korean students are used to being slumped over the desks since they are required to study very hard (around 14 hours per day if you are a high school student). When I moved to the UK for post-graduate studies, I was surprised that no one in libraries was slumped over desks. 😂 Taking a bit of nap during break time is a way for us to study hard being focused, so it does not mean that they did not like your class.

Hi, Luke. I liked this episode as well as other episodes on your UA-cam channel. I'm learning a lot here. Thanks! It's very interesting the words "skive" (UK) and "esquiver" (FR) because in Portuguese (BR) we have the word "esquivar", which means the same thing (in some contexts).

Hahaha, I was smiling 😆I could imagine Korean students slumping over head on the table.
Yes, They are resting. It may come from the idea that taking a short nap is better when they have to concentrate on class again after the break. It probably became their habit in high school. High school students in Korea had to find a way to rest quickly during breaks because they had to start their schedules early in the morning and study at their desks until late night (which means they had to keep the same posture all day).
They don't mean to give up!😂

Hi Luke! I was Kazakh (not Korean) student, and I was sometimes slumped over the desk during the break time. IMHO it means nothing desperate. It just means I had a bit uncomfortable sleep the night before or I'm trying to gain some energy and attention before the next part of the lesson. Never mind, Luke! That's completely Ok!

Thank you so much Luke I really enjoyed this session. It was interesting that you noticed many Korean learners slumping over on the desk during a break time and wondered why. To me, it's no wonder as many S.Korean students are kind of pushed to go through serial private tuitions after school even over midnight, which sounds literally insane. Your sessions are enjoyable and to the point, so don't worry 😊

We in Sri Lanka have different methods. Like , sometimes, a whole bottle of liquor is ordered with what we call 'bites' and soft drinks to mix with the liquor. We pay at the end, after the drink. On occasion, a certain quantity like 50ml at a time is ordered to the table. We can take any number of 'shots.' Again payment is done after the drink. We either share the total cost among the members of the group. Sometimes, one person foots the bill.

Korean students are always slumped over a desk in their school just because they feel tired. Of course it could be an expression of giving up or refusing the class. But in most circumstances, It is very common thing happens in school. But if someone does it not in the breaktime, then it is considered as an extremely rude behaviour as well in Korea.

56:00 Haha, I'm a Korean listener and I know what you mean because I used to be one of them in school. I'm very surprised that we are the only students who lay down at break time with foreheads on the table. It's actually very comfortable...! Your slumped Korean students prove your classes were great enough to focus massively hard (and maybe have chronic fatigue😇). It's just normal for us so don't worry about them at all.
