Share a parking lot with these guys. Been amazing seeing them start with a moonshine and turn it into one of the best bourbons I have had in a long time. Cheers, -J.O.
This juice will compete for Bourbon of the year. I am building a collection of this juice as I predict when the word gets out the demand will exceed supply.
New Riff came from the guys who were blending the O.K.I. whiskey's (sourced from MGP) that went crazy on secondary. They are good at blending and seemingly aging. A lot of interesting stuff coming from them right now. They have a Single Barrel, Store picks, and a Rye now too. Cheers gents!
New Riff is really good stuff. I'd be interested to hear what you guys think of their Rye. Though, don't praise it too much. I can just barely find it on the shelves in my area as it is.
I joined a club there when New Riff first started distilling their own juice. The deal was 4 years after you join you get a bottle of bourbon distilled the month you joined. Next month I will get my own bottle called Ranger. Not sure how different it is from their standard release. Also, on the neck of that standard bottling you have it will have the season and year it was distilled.
Mark Singer Here’s the text from the email they sent last week - “Dear Ranger, The time has come! Almost four years have passed and at long last your Ranger Bottles, bottled from the best barrel of New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon in May 2015 is just about ready. It’s time to make a date of it. Your Ranger Bottling Party is coming up next Saturday May 18th at 2pm. Please read below for details if you haven't already rsvp'ed! Thank you! The Team at New Riff”
I just tried a bottle of the single barrel, still haven't tried the normal. But this single barrel...is killer but I feel like I need to pick up the normal now.
New Riff is just across the Ohio from Cincinnati. My wife and I went down to the 'Nati for my 36th birthday and hit up New Riff. I purchased a bottle from a barrel they had just finished to be picked up on my 40th. I'm looking forward to it. Glad to see New Riff getting some love. Have you guys done any Watershed out if Columbus? They have a relatively new shop up and running here and they are gaining some traction.
It's not really standard recipe. it is a high rye recipe which is actually fairly rare. The only mass market one that has a similar or close mashbill is OGD. Of all the NPD that have switched to their own juice in recent years New Riff has nailed the flavor profile of their sourced releases and actually made a good whiskey.
The other day went to dinner and ordered a neat four roses single barrel and it was much better as soon as it was poured. Afterwards it honestly felt stronger. Perhaps it was the food I was eating as one of the appetizers were quite spicy to some but I like the spice and it didn’t make my mouth burn or anything but perhaps it was spicy enough to make my whiskey taste pretty strong.
Everything except some private barrels that’s coming out. That single barrel is something that the distillery put out, the store picks are head and shoulders better. This is my go to whiskey right now.
Hello, I have been exploring whiskey for a few months now in search of a liquid campfire. I do not mean peat, although it is lovely, I am looking for oak tossed over a flame, campfire. I have tried Laphroaig quarter cask, and Lagavulin 16, for reference smokey levels. Both were good however, their campfire characteristics were dominated by the peat. If any of you MB's could help me out I would appreciate it. Cheers.
Just picked up a bottle of Ardbeg Drum. Hopefully, if it isn't already part of your "small" collection, you guys can get your hands on a bottle for a review. 🙏🏼 I really don't want to open it, buuuuut I don't have that kind of willpower.
love the vids. the single barrel jumped out to me with more classic flavors the first time i tried it. the original, im still waiting for it to wow me and i got it the day after its release in August. Still would buy any whiskey they release though.
Surprised they liked the blend better than the Single barrel. I'm local to New Riff and love going to their little gift shop bar and trying the new single barrels. 9 times out of 10 I like the singles better than the standard release.
It's really not fair to compare THAT single barrel to their bib bourbon. I did a flight of different single barrel bourbons there and they were vastly different. I picked my favorite barrel and bought 3 bottles of that because it was so good. I also tried their single barrel rye taster flight. Two were close to "bad" but the 3rd was spectacular so there's definitely a lot of variance. Their rye and bourbon are both good but I'm still sad I couldn't get a bottle of that single barrel rye I tried.
I associate letting a whiskey open up over time with the Tootsie Pop commercial back in the day. Me - "Mr turtle... How many sips does it take to open up your whiskey?" Mr. Turtle - "I ain't never made it without chugging.". Me - Mr. Owl... How many sips does it take to open up your whiskey?". Mr. Owl - "Let's find out. A-one a-twohoo a-thrrree. A-thrrree". Now it could be Mr. Bear and Mr. Eagle.
Truly a great bourbon. I took my time with this whiskey, about 45 minutes. At first I got a heavy oak and caramel nose with an orange peel and butterscotch palate. After a while the nose retained the oak and caramel with the addition of vanilla. The palate, on the other hand, changed dramatically. Still a cinnamoned orange peel, but it became really creamy. The cream is reminiscent of Carolans irish cream with a lingering finish of half and half.
Could a legal bourbon be made with peated malted barley? For example, a simple mash bill of 51% corn, 49% heavily peated malted barley. Is anyone doing this kind of thing? I know some like High West are blending bourbon with peated scotch, but I wonder if there’s any legal limitation on making a different style of bourbon with more ingredient experimentation. Smoked corn, anyone?!?!
I legitimately thought then reading the title "New Riff" was going to be a different song playing in the beginning of the video. I had no clue it was a whiskey, I'm not a smart man :P
New Riff is a wonderful bourbon. I feel like this would be a great entry level bourbon for those working their way into drinking bourbon neat, but will stay with you for a long time. I love falling in love with a new product. Well done Riff!
We toured New Riff a few years ago before they had their own stock aged. Awesome experience. Small groups, very nice facility, and the were... generous... with their samples 😁 Even let us all try the grain alcohol straight off the still! Smooth was not a word that came to mind with that...
So I've noticed that when you guy's bastard people, the whiskey is not open yet and the glasses are empty.... Not sure if I'm the only one that finds that odd. 😂
Oh Whiskey Vault, I just poured half a bottle of New Riff Straight rye whiskey from 2015 down my fuckin drain because it is makin this (me) whiskey drinker sick -WAY TOO EARLY !!!
hay, if you told you will stub by ice picker, do you stop asking your wife to serve staek? but you don't stand for hay every morning don't you? I've told someone will stub me by ice picker. I don't understand but tang on he means might be ice to be lover but I have no lover until now. I know theaves who trying to steal my properties. I know someone who are trying to make me as camber made or something like chamber maid kind servant. Do you think they can be able to force me to do something like. let say eat oatsmeal kind thing? I don't thnk so.

I was just there Sunday and just got a bottle of it!
Do you guys still have your barrel pick?
@@broda769 I did see it there
I just got your guys knob creek store pick, must say so far I’m not a fan. I will come back to it in about week and check it out.

Their Balboa Rye is AWESOME. Very different because of the Balboa
There are some really damn good Barrel picks of New Riff. Excited to see what their stuff can be as their stuff ages further.
JackOfAllBlades my group is actually hoping to get a five year barrel. And I will agree, I cannot wait to see what’s going to be released later on.
I’m so glad the guys agree with what I’ve been saying to people. I much prefer the regular new riff to the single barrel.
New Riff is really good stuff. I'd be interested to hear what you guys think of their Rye. Though, don't praise it too much. I can just barely find it on the shelves in my area as it is.

Jason Cooper is the bottle their regular bourbon but called ranger or is it different?

So it’s a selected barrel of the standard recipe.
I just tried a bottle of the single barrel, still haven't tried the normal. But this single barrel...is killer but I feel like I need to pick up the normal now.

Love the importance of the simultaneous "wink click". You guys are great!
Can’t wait to try New Riff when it’s got a couple more years on it. I always get heavy candied ginger notes out of it. Delicious stuff!
It's not really standard recipe. it is a high rye recipe which is actually fairly rare. The only mass market one that has a similar or close mashbill is OGD. That's a good looking bottle from New Riff
I was so there UNTIL ! the slow wink..... now I fell I need to fill out a report with HR. Good stuff guys! as always. Thanks.
Got to try the Bourbon and Rye at a friend's place and loved them both. can't find them commonly around me though...

Little hole in the wall store like 2 minutes from me just got a store pick in, really solid.
I was excited to hear about Rex's high school Buddies.
Didn't New Riff recently win some fairly big awards?
I was ridiculously surprised by New Riff.... amazing juice at the price.
I just bought a bottle of the New Riff two days ago. Now I'm really excited to get it open
New Riff is killing it.
Hey MB’s! I am going to Sydney Australia in June for my honeymoon! And recommendations on bars, experiences, or maybe any distilleries?
sigi arballo sign up or sign into the Whisky list to access their bars and distilleries map of Australia. Congratz!
Rob Salvv thanks! And which whiskey list?
It's a web site. Google is your friend.
Love this stuff! Single barrel might just be my favorite.
Everything except some private barrels that’s coming out. That single barrel is something that the distillery put out, the store picks are head and shoulders better. This is my go to whiskey right now.
New Riff is just over the river in Newport from me, might have to swing by after work...
Every time I taste New Riff I get mint through the mid and long finish almost into a menthol. It is actually one of my favorites for under $40.
First time I tried New Riff..it was like raspberry/plum syrup mixed in an ok bourbon

New Riff has one of the coolest bottles ever
love the vids.

You should review the single barrel and the rye they offer. It's great stuff.
So, what whisk(e) would be worthy of the slow sultry wink, just asking because inquiring minds would like know?
They have released a single barrel at cask strength which is fantastic! Their private barrels are terrific too!
Surprised they liked the blend better than the Single barrel. I'm local to New Riff and love going to their little gift shop bar and trying the new single barrels. 9 times out of 10 I like the singles better than the standard release.
Maybe a less than good barrel? I have only had single tastes, but I think it's damn good whisky.
New riff isnf available in Texas yet

"Vaguely Harmless, although ridiculous"
I don’t like Bourbon and I hate Rye. And I love New Riff Distillery Rye! Darn you guys for proving me wrong! 😂🥃
I feel like every episode lately has featured donated whiskeys, is Daniel approaching mooch status too?
Has anyone here tried Rabbit Hole? I have their bourbon which I’m a huge fan of. What do you guys think?
I love being from Kentucky
I like the SB but it's close imo
When Daniel said Las Cruces, New Mexico, I did a double take ‘cause I had no idea there was a distillery in my town.
Yeah
What does a Season refer to with bottle and bond?
I think they said it's only that season when they bottle it or distill it. Something like that....
I've been watching your channel for a while. I searched this video while I sipped some of my new riff so I could get my own private tasting
Just booked my trip out in July to retrieve the magic beans I bought on the interwebs! Cant wait to meet you magnificent bastards!!
Guess I know what im trying out next, if I can find it
Rex you have come a long way in the knowledge of Whisk(e)y😎🧔🏽
Daniel wears his necklace why not Rex?
Love all the videos and shenanigans.
Do you dare pair whiskey and tacos I'm a video?
I think the "mooch" is a lot better than he was. Go Rex.

Could it be a “New Riff” on bourbon dare I say
I legitimately thought then reading the title "New Riff" was going to be a different song playing in the beginning of the video. I had no clue it was a whiskey, I'm not a smart man :P
I know this is a whiskey channel but maybe can appreciate, Jamey Johnson the beer song
An hour???!!! No whisky in my hand is going to last that long. You're insane dude!
Sip it don't kill it, brother. Lol
The only word Rex left out was
Girthy
New Riff is a wonderful bourbon. I feel like this would be a great entry level bourbon for those working their way into drinking bourbon neat, but will stay with you for a long time. I love falling in love with a new product. Well done Riff!
Anybody else hear "deluded" when Rex says "diluted?"
Why is there a problem with the word mouthfeel?
Ever see that episode of Bobs burgers where bob goes to a burger competition with his black garlic burger?
The same peeps who object to the world "mouthfeel" also object to the word "moist."
"The click will save you"
We toured New Riff a few years ago before they had their own stock aged. Awesome experience. Small groups, very nice facility, and the were... generous... with their samples 😁 Even let us all try the grain alcohol straight off the still! Smooth was not a word that came to mind with that...
