    The other thing Maker's does really well? Their client experience is exceptional. After we had our tour, they invited us to spend the rest of the day at the distillery. They have kind of a museum, some art work, fantastic grounds, and a restaurant. They're the best at promoting the brand

    Very happy you are covering Maker's! This was my first bourbon and first stop on the KY Bourbon Trail. BEAUTIFUL grounds! Unique marketing with the wheat and wax seal. May not be the best "wheater" on the market, but it kept the style alive for the other good ones!

    The "I'm not going to drink my parent's generation's spirit" phenomenon was one of the factors that led to the reduction of production of Japanese whiskey which then led to lack of supply when it became popular outside of Japan due to (among other things) a favorable review of Suntory’s Yamazaki Single Malt Sherry Cask 2013 which was designated the "best in the world" from the Whisky Bible, raising the global profile and demand of the Japanese whisky.

    I worked on a series of Maker Mark poster years ago, building rough models of buildings from iconic cityscapes, dripping the wax on them, photographing the wax with an eye on lighting from the cityscape, and then had those wax drippings photoshopped onto the cityscapes. Maker Mark always had great marketing people.

    As a home distiller who adamantly believes in his own spirits....my favorite whiskey is my own, homade liquor, which ranges anywhere from gin, vodka, single malt and bourbon. Do to a motorcycle wreck,I havent produced my own for about 4 months because of an awful motorcycle wreck, I just purchased my first bottle of maker's mark and I couldn't be more satisfied. its surprisingly smooth for a traditional type bourbon,I love it!

  • @ConcaCon

    My favorite Maker's Mark has been a Private Select, bottled a smidge under 110 proof. It was rich in flavor, velvety in texture and pleasantly but not overly sweet. Best bourbon I've had thus far.

  • @TURBOMIKEIFY
    @TURBOMIKEIFY Рік тому +3

    Still my favorite whiskeys as of right now. I remember I tried to go back to Jack Daniels after I finished the bottle of Maker's, and it tasted like spicy water, in the most literal sense. No flavor, just a warm throat. Maker's goes so well with Coke, it's crazy! There's something about the mixture that makes it taste rich, creamy, dense, smooth with some bits of tingling to my tongue and lips. But, an overall amazing experience, from someone who prefers Berliner Weisse beers (favorite is 1809). I remember accidentally getting the mint julip version (I'm very colorblind) and didn't notice until I drank it. I was taken aback, and threw up because I wasn't prepared for the taste. Still finished that bottle.

    Quick story why I drink Makers and recommend it to everyone. Back in 2010 I picked up my first car (98 Grand Cherokee) with my dad from Florida and drove it back to my college in Ohio. We stopped by the distillery but unfortunately it was too late for a tour. As we are walking around the parking lot, an employee told us we can walk around and ask other employees what everything was and the whisky making process. As we were about to head out, the first employee asked if we wanted to try their different types of whisky. Anyway, we had a nice conversation and my dad got wasted while I had to stay sober and drive throughout the night to Columbus. The employees at Makers Mark were incredible people and really made us feel like family.

    Maker's Mark has an excellent product. Wether it is the regular, Cask Strength, 46 or 46 cask strength, they are all consistent and made the right way. Take a tour there. They do things the same way every day. The label makers are machines from the 50's... they print their lables, cut them put them on.... they still hand dip the wax off the bottling line... they move the bottles from spot to spot over the years.... and they have a natural cellar in the hillside.... all while being on a fantiastic property that is a working farm. I will always be a big fan.

Having just fought the Scotch Whisky Association for several years over their name they were somewhat tired of court battles so they conceded.

      Lost I get it, I can be the same way with proof, hence why I’m telling you my opinion on it lol. The flavors are certainly bolder, and Rex is correct that it has some barrel flavor without the bitterness at the end which is nice. With that said, it’s not a super complex whiskey if that’s what you’re looking for.

    Can comment or talk about using whiskey stones for whiskey and how it affects the whiskey taste ? Thank you.

    I would somewhat disagree with your statement about the thinking Whiskey/bourbon is an old person's drink. I was a teen in the late '70s and in my 20's in the '80s and ALL of my friends drank Jack Daniels and Jim Beam almost exclusively(yes I started drinking early). I live in Northeast Ohio close to Akron just South of Cleveland a bit. JD and JB were the drink of choice when it came to hard liquor. Still is in these parts. :) Thanks for your show. I just bought a bottle of Monkey Shoulder and I am LOVING it. Very nice. Just found your channels and am playing catch up. Peace

    I haven’t heard what y’all had to say yet but I like makers quite a bit. I dig it more than a lot of the more expensive and prestigious bourbons.

    I visited Makers Mark in Kentucky, and tried it outside o that, and still don’t like it’s flavor personally. The tour of the distillery was interesting though. They had some blown glass sculptures on the grounds from Dale Chihuly, whose work I saw at the Crystal Bridges Art museum in Arkansas prior to the distillery tour!

    Daniel, considering your knowledge of music, I belive you could make an amaizing video on wiskey (or whisky) music pairing and Rex could mooch! Doesn't it sound great?

    When Rex starts rattling off differences from memory... mooch status is in jeopardy.
