    I went out and purchased a bottle after this review.
    Right from the start I noticed a pleasant aromatic scent. Then after my first sip I noticed it tasted more like an 8 year than a 5. Easy sipper. Surprisingly I'm a Kentucky bourbon fan. But I like this alot. I can see this being on my shopping list. I'm a 4 roses small batch and a Belle mead cherry casks bourbon drinker.
    Every now and then you find a winner on the shelves. I'm drinking this warm no ice. I can see ladies liking this as well. Men don't worry it's got a high ABV content without the ripe bite. You will like it.

    My wife and I were in Seattle 2 weeks ago and hit 6 distilleries. Woodenville and Westland were two. We took the tour given by the master distiller at Woodenville and were able to try and buy the port. It's amazing. We also chatted up one of the women doing the tastings and she went in and took a small sample right off the still of new make. Best new make we've ever tasted. They really are doing amazing things up there. Freemont Mischief, 2 bar, Oola, Blackfish, Dryfly all great Washington distilleries. Bull Run, Bend Distillery, Wander back, Westward, Ransom, Pioneer, 4 Spirits, New Basin are all amazing Oregon Distilleries!

    Actually, I think Gordon is.... "Also Known As Government Issued" so it is "AKA GI". On the Pacific North West issue... depending on how far the distilleries are from the coast they get a lot more rain up there (compared to California where I live), although east Washington is fairly dry due to the rain-shadow effect of the Cascade Mountains. If the distilleries are more western they may have a more Scotland-like climate (but with more trees) which may give them a more moderate aging and maturation time so more gradually developed flavors, in comparison to the intensity of Texas. Just a theory... would be interesting to look deeper into the topic.

    • @bipolargods509
      @bipolargods509 4 роки тому

      You are correct. I live in spokane. More akin to Ireland or England, than Scotland. Gets very humid during the summer, but also very temperate. Very distinct seasonal change. Only difference is, we are high desert over. Seattle for the most part even during the winter can stay fairly mellow. It doesn't rain as much as people think. Lots of cloud cover. It's not till you get over to the Olympic peninsula and to the hoh forest when it rains a lot. Hence, having a rain forest

    • @anasianwithrice
      @anasianwithrice 4 роки тому +1

      The Woodinville distillery actually trucks their barrels over the Cascades so they get more extreme temperature cycles. In contrast, Westland ages their single malt in Western Washington which as you said is more Scotland-like.

    • @bluecollarwineguy4447
      @bluecollarwineguy4447 4 роки тому +2

      Erik, both Woodinville and Westland distill here in the Puget Sound but they age their whiskeys on opposite sides of the Cascades.
      Westland ages their whiskey in Hoquiam which is near the coast in sw Washington. Woodinville ages their whiskey in Quincy which is in central Washington which is considered desert plains.

    Here's a question...
    Scotland is a small country next to England that is famous for whiskey.
    Ireland is a small country next to England that is famous for whiskey.
    England is a larger country in the exact same area as the other two, but as far as I (admittedly a very new whiskey-drinker) know, there's virtually no whiskies out of England.
    What gives?
    England certainly has the population & manufacturing-expertise & diverse regions to be able to create a whiskey industry with unique, interesting, locale-specific variety, but I've literally never heard of an English whiskey (again, very new to whiskey). Is it because the English only like beer & sherry? Is it a historical side-nation thing somehow?
    This just struck me as weird.
    Thanks. :)

      I've seen Ralfy review a couple English whiskeys, but I couldn't tell you which episode. I think he was at an event where he talked to the rep about their offerings. I don't think Ralfy was particularly impressed. They were malt whiskeys so they probably didn't stand out. For a reasonable price; $50 or less imo, it's hard to beat Scotch and Bourbon from a big distillery. Craft distilleries do a better job at unique spirits, in which case you're mostly on your own. Watching the whiskey vault helps, but you'll probably have to take a chance buying a bottle if you're curious about a distillery with low distribution

      The nice thing about Oregon is that you have the verdant Willamette Valley, but go an hour and a half west and you’re at the beach. Go an hour and a half east from the valley and you’re in the mountains and even further the high desert. There are so many micro climates it’s amazing. The same thing with Washington.

      Amen to that, we can always use more hobbits, and our whiskey may just be a worthy lure, even for a mooch.

    Well....tawny port isn't red. That's ruby port. So the red color didn't come from the port barrel.

    Hey 'beautiful bastards' and the Whiskey Vault lads, do you have any recommendations for any interesting whisk(e)y from Japan, Ireland, America or Scotland (preferably in that order) around or under 60 US$? I just wanna try a couple of interesting flavoured whisk(e)ys. Thanks-a-bunch!
