- Today we taste and review Rúa American Single Malt Whiskey, Broad Branch Rye Fidelity, Jesse James Bourbon Whiskey, Nomad Outland Whisky, Copper Fox American Single Malt and Jersey Spirits Barnegat White Maple Whiskey.
Magnificent Bastards: Barton Jones, Don, Toni Arrihgton, Tiffany Rubin, Jose Arteaga, and Josh Carrillo
I live in NC, and love Rua! For all the reasons you listed. It's just not boring. I'm so glad you reviewed it, thank you.
I respect the hell out of these guys. Of all the videos I've seen by them, they always respect the distiller, and try to always find the positives in the whiskeys that they do not enjoy.
I visited Copper Fox, and they were a great group of people! Glad to see them getting some recognition.
Yea! I'm officially a Magnificent Bastard!
You were always a bastard to us. Enjoy your magnificence sir! It is well deserved.
Congratulations!
Cheers, you MB.
As someone who sometimes sits down and tries to smell and taste different notes in my drinks... and gets nothing but vague "lots of alcohol, kinda sweet?", I actually love how creative you guys are with describing what you smell and taste. Maybe I'll get there but you guys are just something special.
"The smell of play dough when you were a kid" got me good
Visited Copper Fox and sampled 5 of their whiskys and their Bourbon Mash moonshine. I walked away with a bottle of the peach wood Single Malt. Great American whisky. But I definitely understand what you mean about that flavor and odor note in all their products but I actually rather like it lol.
I love the Fox.... Haven't had the peach wood but excited to try it. Looking for a good summer whisky.
After reviewing 6 whiskies and dumping the undrunk liquor into one glass, you should review the contents of that glass.
What? Something on a Rare Whiskey Friday I can actually get? May have to try the Rua.
Praline is made out of Hazelnuts. And is the base for the most chocolate spreads like Nutella.
Can also be made from pecans or almonds!
I may have misunderstood, but the Jesse James whiskey is not the bike builder Jesse James, but rather Jesse James Dupree, who is the lead singer of the rock band Jackyl.
I was just going to point that out.
So I just bought a bottle of Copper Fox and just on a lark I search UA-cam, and here are my favorites whiskey people
So excited to finally see Rua Single Malt review on the channel! Unfortunately in NC the two most popular native whiskeys I see purchased by friends are from Defiant and TOPO, both pressurized stainless steel aging with staves. They're both severely overpriced for the quantity and aging process and have harsh wood notes with no complexity. The Rua Single Malt is the exact same price as Defiant at $40 and $10 more than TOPO, but cleans their clocks. I hope NC distilleries move past this quick aging and produce cool products like Great Wagon Road.
I've been meaning to comment for about this since I started back watching since the beginning.
I like how much the bastardization ceremony has changed since you guys have started doing them.
Keep up all the great work.
I can't wait to hang out in October with all the MBs that are able to make it.
Every rare whisky friday i pray for an good indiana whiskey.
Praline nut is now a thing, thanks Daniel
First time dive into peat last night. Bought a three pack of Lagavulin 16, Talisker 10 and Cragganmore 12. Blown away by the nose and flavors. Have to say out of the three, the Talisker was definitely my favorite. Sat around all night with Dad sipping scotch, bourbon and rye. Amazing night comparing all the different flavors of the different whiskeys.
I actually picked up a bottle of the Nomad when I was flying back from Spain in February, could barely find any information on it, but was intrigued. Has quickly become one of my favourites.
I was hoping in this episode you reviewed Copper Fox, Thanks. I had bought a bottle of their regular Whiskey and after tasting it, sharing a taste with 2 whiskey friends, I contacted Copper Fox and asked to return it to them thinking the whiskey had been some how compromised. I met the owner in Williamsburg, Va at their store and brought the bottle. He tasted it and said that is so delicious, exactly what they produce. I was dumbfounded. He did buy my bottle back from me, not refund, and then offered me a Old Fashioned made with the whiskey. My pallet still tasted the "funk" I called it and we shake hands and went our separate ways. Never really knew what I was tasting that I did not agree with. I do agree with you through, stand up owners.
Because of Whiskey Vault and all you guys review, I started drinking bourbon because you made it sound so inviting! All I need now is one of your whiskey tasting glasses. Do you have a store where I can buy something with your logo? Or, you can just send me a whiskey/bourbon tasting glass
I live in Charlotte and I ran straight out and picked this up for 37 buck. It’s A-freakn-mazing!!!!!!! Thanks so much
If you go to the Distillery they have a Rúa limited run that was finished in OMB Fat boy Barrels. It is amazing. 116 proof of I remember right.
My rare for me would be Floki Icelandic Young Malt. I went there last October and I'm halfway through 50 CL bottle. My first impression was fermenting piles of grain and hay. But it's grown on me over time. Sure was a fun purchase if anything.
I'm glad these guys like the Nomad. For it's one of my favorite whisky and the fact it's so affordable just cherry on top.
You mean sherry 😁
Daniel, pretty sure that's Batch 38 - 18 months.
That is exactly correct
Rua is awesome!
Picked up a bottle of Ruia myself a couple of weeks back, now I cant wait to crack it!
I am totally new to the whiskey vault and to whiskey in general. I read the health benefits to drinking whiskey and decided to try. Tonight I just tried Glenfiddich 12 and from the cork I knew this was the style for me. As of now it’s the best whiskey I have tasted. Any suggestions of what to try next?
I just got a bottle of that Jesse James Single Barrel for $10.🤑🥃
LMAO!!! I loved the opening! I actually HAVE seem Jesse James in my area at one time. Yes, the whiskey! 😊
Shame we can't buy that Nomad, sounds so different I'd be curious to try it.
Notes above say 'Copper Fox American Single Malt' which is a different product to the one tested 'Copper Fox Peachwood American Single Malt'. They do a fantastic range with some or all malted barley smoked with wood (instead of peat) and various chips in barrels. The guy was trained at Bowmore. I'd encourage anyone to try them and not be put off by that review at all.

Love this channel. I’m from Chippewa Falls near Eau Claire. You guys said it like people who have never heard the name. We say it like “Oh Claire”. There is a distillery here in Chippewa Falls as well. I hope you are able to test some of our whiskeys soon.
Thank you for turning me on to Monkey Shoulder. I talk about it to anyone who will listen. Thank you again. Keep it up.
Just tried Nomad in Spain ... it reminds me of Dalmore gran reserva ... (maybe because this is made by Richard Patterson too)
Thanks guys
Sup!!!! My Beautiful Awesome Wife is Bringing me back a Bottle of Town Branch Bourbon form ocean City Md . I know it's not "Rear" but it is to me . Virginia ABC doesn't carry it. Love you site guys. Keep um coming.
Will you be in Bushmills on your trip?
Any chance you guys will be able to take a look at Dickel's new 13-year-aged BiB release?
I used to have a praline nut tree...
I bet that Jersey Spirits "Whiskey" could be and interesting replacement for sugar in an old fashioned.
Praline is not a nut 😂. I think youre thinking if Pecans ir maybe macademia idk🤷🏽♀️
Praline is made with nuts and sugar
@@jasongrezek3944 A praline is a chocolate bonbon, which can be filled with nuts & sugar, but also with nougat, dried fruit, marzipan or liquor, so it's not always made with nuts.
To be specific, pra·line
/ˈprāˌlēn/
noun
a smooth, sweet substance made by boiling nuts in sugar and grinding the mixture, used especially as a filling for chocolates.
a crisp or semicrisp candy typically consisting of butter, brown sugar, and pecans.
From Belgium, the birthcountry of the praline, the exact description of praline reads " A praline is a peace of sweet, covered in a layer of chocolate, that can be filled with different substances. The most common is a filling based of nuts or cream. Other possible fillings include: Marzipan, nougat or dried fruit. Sometimes pralines are filled with strong alcohol, mostly liqour. A praline is a specialty chocolate bonbon with a filling." And now I want a whisky praline...
Laura Aouad in the US (particularly in the south) a praline is a candy coated pecan made with pecans, brown sugar, butter, frequently milk, and a bit of vanilla. There are undoubtedly variations, and in other parts of the world world a praline might be an entirely different thing, but that is the flavor profile they are referring to in this tasting.
I am going to be graduating come next semester from college as a gift to myself I like to get a higher end bottle of whiskey/ single malt. I have had yamazaki 12yo and Glenfiddich 14 which has been one of my favorite whiskeys if you could point me to a whiskey similar to glenfiddich 14. I was thinking Dalmore 15yo but my local shop doesn't have it only the 12 year. I am willing to pay a bit more for a bottle $100+.
Favorite day of the week!
Damnit Daniel!
All your Tucson MB’s are on the edge of their seats wondering what your Tucson question was in the Del Bac episode.
Does the old dad joke rule about having to pour Rex anything he wants still apply even if it's the distillery making the dad joke?
I really like peat and smoke but not a fan of the iodine medicinal taste.lafroig 10 wasn't necessarily my bag I haven't tried ardbeg but are there any good choices with peat that don't have that medicinal iodine taste?
Yes. Try the Ardbeg 10, it doesn’t have that off putting iodine note. Or try Lagavulin. Both are delicious in slightly different ways.
So I won the contest at garrison, get to help choose a barrel for the Balmorhea 2020 release.
Can you guys review rampur single malt
Even at 18 minutes and 23 seconds whiskey Fridays go by too fast!
For $40 Nomad is a steal. You can rarely find that rich and fine flavored whiskey at this price point. And I like Spain :)
Was it soft wood or hard wood?
Where are you guys based? Would absolutely love to come watch you guys film. I live in the UK but will be state side soon
Back after a year sooo happy to be back
“Welcome to the whiskey vault” - Billy Maddison
Just bought a bottle of Rúa after seeing this. Kung Fu fighting on my way home in Charlotte, NC
I'm moving to Charlotte in 6 months and I can't wait to try their 2 whiskey offerings. One of the first things I'm doing when I get there is taking the distillery tour.
Their distillery is really neat! You’ll enjoy it!
Don’t like copper fox, but I’d be damn if I don’t finish it off. I saw that dan....
Just found you guys last week. I've never binged on anything like this before. Love the channel and everything you do. Keep up the good work. Cheers all you magnificent bastards! 🥃
It's nice to watch both of them get tossed around by a bunch of whiskey I gotta say... :P
17:16 when Daniel chugs water from the pitcher lolz
I had to laugh at that. He was like "this taste won't go away!".
Jesse James Spirits was started by Jesse James Dupree, not the West Coast Chopper Jesse James
I only even mentioned it because I was looking into it when I tried it. I thought it was that Jesse James too.
Love the content guys!
Daniel was getting all sorts of things wrong on this one, rua is red (not red head) and praline isn't a nut its a confectionery.
confectionery made of cinnamon, brown sugar and butter
@@erikevenson4303 and nuts
Hohopefully first on my bday
Just so we are clear I have lived in Charleston South Carolina my whole life. Charleston just happens to be smack dab in the heart of praline country and I would like to let you know that pralines are not nuts, pralines are essentially hardened caramel. now, pralines do have nuts in them and it is almost always pecans (pronounced p-cons).
Perhaps you were smelling pecans because pralines are not nuts.
do you have any whisky being aged in those oak barrels? if they are empty, is it possible if you can dump some of your favorite whiskies in there and let it age for 5 or more years and review it? good show.
Rex “Is That a Nut” Williams and Daniel “Praline Nut” Whittington.
Did I miss the jesse James ??
Rex, you like that amount of wood?
RUA is the Portuguese word for Street ....just sharing guys...
Would you guys be interested in some of our local Chattanooga whiskeys??
I've been away from the vault for a while due to work etc. so it might be me not being as familiar with Daniel and Rex's voices as I used to be but Rex saying 'Plaaaanet' at the beginning of this video sounded just like Patrick Warburton to me.
Hey Rex and Daniel, I am a big fan of the show. I have investigated and fell more in love with Whiskey (specifically bourbon) because of your reviews. You have provided me a "magnificent" bundle of facts regarding some brands of whiskey (for example the fact that Elijah Craig was a LYING BASTARD and wasn't producing whiskey in 1789 as he was sailing to America) So for the education and entertainment surrounding bourbon, I thank you gentlemen.
I also have a Dad joke for Daniel, and it goes like this:
"So yesterday, a guy asked me if I wanted to donate money for a swimming pool...so I gave him a glass of water."
Pralines are the candy made from butter, brown sugar and pecans. Usually found all over New Orleans.
You beat me to it. I had the definition ready. Wanna see it... Ok. noun
a smooth, sweet substance made by boiling nuts in sugar and grinding the mixture, used especially as a filling for chocolates.
a crisp or semicrisp candy typically consisting of butter, brown sugar, and pecans.
Scott, I couldn’t believe a couple of guys from Central Texas didn’t know what a praline was.
Praline contains nuts but is more of a confection.
I you want a real kick Jersey Spirits also does a horseradish vodka
It's actually Jesse james Dupree from Jackyl. Not jesse james the motorcycle guy
Praline is candied pecans.
You can NOT be from the south and not know what "Praline" is.. That's a "turn in your southerner" card type of offence.
Came here to say the same...
When shipping to the Vault how does one ship whiskey?
FedEx UPS not USPS don't say it's whiskey
I can find Nomad everywhere over here
1:17 so it has no soul?!?!
still waiting for personal Top 10 Lists from Rex and Daniel at different price ranges like Top 10 whiskey for $, $$ and $$$ maybe one day 🤔
That's a first watching Daniel pour water straight from the pitcher into his mouth to rinse it out
Copper fox fucking Rules. I've had 4 bottles of their malts so far.
Praline is what you get when you boil nuts in sugar... if you care haha
Wrong Jesse James. You mean Jesse James Dupree from Jackyl . Try the kind with honey!
Does anyone else have "Funky Adventure" embroidered on their underpants? Chicks dig it.
Had the Nomad ... one of a few whisky I disliked, too sweet and too parfumy and that thing lingers like there is no tommorrow ...
*GREEN SCREEN BOIS*
"Sucked up the essence of the wood .... "
Pralines are pecans which are drupes.
*rock n cock n roll You Magnificent **_Bastard!!_** plays* hecc yeah
Man some people are just quick...
Um, are y'all doing this in front of a green screen?
No.
Nope, just looks like it because of the depth of focus on a 4K camera
Totally my mistake, appreciate the clarification!
@@ebarguiarena Any time. I'd wondered that at one point too, right until Daniel grabbed a bottle from the "green screen" and the background changed :D
This question does pop up from time to time because the visual effect with that camera and it being able to focus on multiple depths at the same time sure looks like green-screen.
wrong Jesse James, The whiskey is Jesse James Dupree
Praline is not a nut. just saying.
I have never been this early 😅
Pistachio you mean.
Yo 2
Second
Wait so is this Jesse James the motorcycle guy or Jesse James from Jackyl who's friends with Michael Ballard? Help a confused bastard out.
third
Play-doh and applesauce? Why does my rye taste like kindergarten?
first
