Yep, and Sakurai was confirmed to have Lucas replace Ness at some point in Melee's development, but scrapped it.

I feel like Lucas and Flint (as a last minute clone) Could have happened if Earthbound 64 released, Flint was pretty much the 2nd most important character in 64, the most advertised and Could use psi (the offensive moves too which Lucas uses in Smash)
We got the best of both worlds. Ness wasn't cut and we did get Lucas.
Kinda happy Lucas was never added into melee. If that happened, Ness would be the only character in smash 64 that didn't end up in all sequels in the series.
Ness would return in Ultimate.

I don't think there would have been a Mother 4 if eb64 came out, Itoi seemed burned out by the end of eb64s development even before it was cancelled

Nah it's just a concept. But you can play this mod in the Brawl mod Smash 2.

I prefer most of eb64s main character designs over gba with the exception of Kumatora, Boney is infamous but his ingame shots look better than the render, Flint 64 is easily one of my favourite character designs out there

in fact, Lucas was going to be 17 years old in Earthbound 64, it doesn't make sense for him to have a little boy's voice, and the post 10 year timeskip design have a different shirt
