I have a few original Victorinox Swiss Champs. One of them going back 40 odd years, before they put the pliers in the model. Never ever have they let me down. The saw is still deadly sharp and the screwdriver is one of the best engineered I have come across, fitting a massive range of sizes. The later models with the hidden pin and pliers are amazingly well made as well. This abomination is purely a polished turd in comparison.

But always buy from the victorinox website as the quality is great the price is worth it they come sharp AF real ones have good steal, harder than that but softer than regular for ease of sharpening. I beat the shit out of the mini blade it's all black from using it to scrape resin and heating it up to cut plastic. Mini knife for heating up and big one for food is how I use those

I got one of these on wish, the awl came off, the plastic has come off multiple times, and there is no hook. You get what you pay for, but at least I've managed to get some use out of all the tools in one way or another (accept for the hand jabber, I only just found out what that was for from this video, so thank you)
The eyeglass screwdriver is actually complete crap, as the handle wasn't really glued to the metal screwdriver itself, and so it would slip off, making that tool completely useless.

I had that SwissChamp copy. Same as you thought, I found the majority of the tools in as useless. When I got mine, the blades are in chisel grind and dull. I had to sharpen the edges. The eyeglass screwdriver went off from its plastic handle after testing it on my eyeglass. The magnifying glass had gone off too and doesn't function. The can opener is a little off it can't open a can. The file easily got dull. The awl is also useless and dull. The scissors' metal were too soft it gets easily dull. The saw on the other hand is sharp and remained as it is even after 2 years of random use. Other than the saw, the only thing that was functional in that SwissChamp copy are the screwdrivers. I ended up abandoning copycat SwissChamp when I moved out of my uncle's house last September

I used to carry a cheapo "sak inspired" knife, the tools worked kinda ok (except the awl and the wood saw) .
it had one advantage to the real saks, the phillips srewdriver and the corksrew were both on the back.
Last year, I decided to buy a real one. first tool i tested was the wood saw, it was sharp as hell (it still is by the way). I used every other tool, my conclusion was you can't compare victorinox knives to those cheap clones, it's just impossible.
You spend 40/50 bucks (for a standard size one) but you know it's worth it; whereas a clone isn't even worth 1.

It seems that the best Swiss army knock-off made by the Chinese was the copy of the camper which sold for around £3.50 back in the late 70s and early 80s which back then was a good choice if you didn't want to spend around £13.00 on a camper and the only slightly useless tools on the Chinese knock-off were the saw which would always jam when trying to cut something with it and the scissors which couldn't cut anything the particular model was identified buy the handle being a very dark red with a silver cross in a silver circle on the handle it does didn't pose as a Swiss army knife but something similar

  • @bdh3949

Yeah these box store checkout stand knives aren't worth a damn. The file that didn't work I believe is a large nail file...fingernail. The flat head screwdriver on the backside next to the corkscrew is a scraper, and the corkscrew is also suspect. If you actually use it it'll pull out of the frame altogether on a particularly stubborn wine cork. I used to teach this kind of stuff (outdoor skills) and every year I would buy a new checkout stand knife and in the first session with students I would pull and break it apart with my gloved hands, it's easy one tool at a time. You can bend the blade around a lot before snapping. Hopefully I convinced them to avoid these knives. Thanks Jeff.

    Very good option
    You buy this one cheap
in case you want to buy a champ
You have it for edc for about 3 mounths
and you will. understand that you don’t need a champ
But one with maximum 4 layers like huntsman
and then you go for the original according to your needs

But i must say thank you for not letting anyone who loves victorinox/swiss army knives to not waist $7 on a p.o.s. multitool! That's why I love this channel Jeff the info is so valuable ! 7 bucks is is 7 bucks bottom line

One of the biggest rules in life to learn is 'if you buy cheap ... you get crap'
    ...
I 1st thought what a useless video this is to make before I realised that there are lots of people out there who haven't learnt this lesson yet. So thank you for making it to highlight some of the garbage that is out there. 👍👏👏
    .....
It's great to get a bargain but you really need to know exactly what you are buying so If in doubt buy from the main dealer or official supplier.
Always read reviews and get educated before you hit any buttons.
    .....
    Ps
You comment about the tool at 11.15 into the vid made my day, I laughed for a good 5 minutes. 👍😂

There are a lot of pocket knives which people say are SAK knockoffs but most are obviously not SAKs as they don't have the logo and are different in other ways, so I don't have a problem with that, they're just cheap folding knives. This one however is trying to pass itself off as an SAK and anyone who hasn't owned one could mistake it for one, those who know them can see even from the shape of the scales that it isn't genuine, as well as all the other indicators like the finish and markings on the blade. I hope Victorinox find out about this and can take legal action as imho it's wrong to use their logo.

Cool knife. I have several SAKs as you described and as long as they are Victorinox knives you can buy new plastic handles/scales and accessories and restore the knife to it's original real beauty.
