Insane how the desirability of what a drummer might look for in a snare nearly 100 years later is still present, in spades, with this thing. Wicked cool to know the history of it as well!
The fact that it came with the original rosewood sticks is unbelievable. Like, I am absolutely shocked. They look immaculate. The rosewood the companies used back then was top-shelf old-growth stuff. That pair of sticks is nuts. Drum is cool, too.
Browsing through all Carter’s videos. I have seen every single one. Lol. I’m a Ludwig guy myself. Really all vintage drums peak my interest. Cymbals have always been my weakness when it comes to finding “the perfect sounds”… but the cymbals he uses sound incredible. His playing is superb.
Who votes this video as the coolest drum video on UA-cam right now ? I DO ! I DO !🖐🖐 I once had a Leedy and Ludwig Reliance model in this exact same size that I sold to a collector friend of mine and it too was made of the same shell material, only it was an 8 lug with imperial lugs. I'm still wondering why I sold it. I now deserve my lamentation after watching this video.😥😥😥
I'm on my morning shift, got only few minutes to the end of the break and watching this video... *By that I'm so proud for what I LOVE, WHAT I AM.* *Practicing is something like praying to me* *MUSIC = HAPPYNES*
Listening to that calf head reminds me of all the great things Mel Lewis said about playing on calf. Such a rich full sound!! And, a real treat to listen to you run that drum through its paces!!
Seriously...who gives a video like this a thumbs down? No accounting for taste. Anyway...love your videos. Look forward to every new one. Keep 'em coming.
man you should get a patreon, i will pay for this... like a drum museum and you playing!!! what else we want in live if not this. Much Love from Panamá
A glorious find! Can't believe that head survived this long!. It's not all dried up, and the skin is still binded to the hoop. For a solid mahogany shell, was expecting something darker, but it's really crisp!, and very sensitive. Beautiful instrument.....and those sticks are the cherry on the cake ;:-)
Incredible find on your beautiful vintage snare drum. Even my oldest Radio King is from the 40's and that Ludwig is in premium condition. Congratulations!
T variety you share with us is insane. Felt your excitement. The drum was speaking...."whoa, that nice. Feeling the love....who are you?? Whoa whoa, what was that? No no, go back....yeah man, that! You can do that? Ohhhh i like you Mr drummer man!"! Yeah i take heaps of meds. 1929. Great depression!! Soup kitchens and jazz. Superb drum!!
That snare is killer. Love the old 20s Ludwigs. Makes you wonder if at one point William F. Ludwig held that drum. Did you have to do any cleaning or polishing or did it come all cleaned up?
I have a 1929-30 SuperSensitive NOB at home, natural heads - with the exact same purple/black leather hardcase, sticks, original stand and bassdrum pedal... I'm very surprised to see one of these cases on youtube as I thought it was a custom order by the first owner. Thanks for showing this to the community, Carter, you're snare sounds killer, can't wait to see more vintage grabs coming up on your channel :)
Just lush wonderfull playing on a lush and wonderfull vintage Ludwig solid shell mahogany snare drum! They used real mahogany back then also. Thank you for this video. I'm a fan
This is absolutely joyous! Amazing instrument. Amazing talent. Love to know more about your micing /mixing . All of your vids sound great without many close mics. Your tunings are great as well .AND...that ride cymbal ! Thanks for these vids!
Carter, might you film a video in which you discuss your impressions of these older drums and what you hear in them in comparison to modern gear? Is it the sound, the build, the materials, or all of it?
That's incredible, Carter! Must be quite the feeling to say that you own a little piece of history. Vintage drums often have so much more to say compared to anything out of the box these days.
Everyone telling me to get the imperial lugs on my black beauty as they are more authentic. But look these lugs are from 1929 much prettier and same as mine... Dope video as usual from this master of taste and feel
Inspiring. Inspirational is a horribly abused marketing word which is formally different to inspiring - in that it has the ability to inspire but has not *actually* been observed to be inspiring, merely that it has that potential.
Hello. I am Japanese. Thank you for all the great videos! Your drum play and drum sounds are the best of all! If you like, please introduce the equipment you are using for recording. Thank you.
Beautiful Snare drum! A piece of history that's almost 100 years old and looks better than most of the new snare drums that are on sale right now. Would have loved to hear how It sounds if you laid into it but that drum is something you gotta take care of. Amazing playing Man!
Carter, your playing style always sounds like it's wearing a tuxedo. Beautiful drum. 🥁 Thanks for bringing out the best in it.

What a wonderful drum! Sounds fantastic. I can’t believe that’s the original head, I’d be scared to lay into it at all!😅
That´s probably the sharpest 91-year old I´ve encountered. Fit, beautiful, performs just as in it´s early 20´s and with spare parts : )
AMAZING! Thank you for sharing! Vintage vibes have been a new found love in the last 3-4 years.
C, Oh man! Congratulations! Thats a gorgeous piece of American history. I'm glad it's in good hands. Thanks for sharing.
Your chops are awesome man. The combination of the playing and the drum is exquisite.

The intro brought me joy. You're the man.
So cool. Couldn't be in better hands!
No one would have guessed that drum would be an integral part of some killer funk grooves in 2020.
I love the older gear when I can find it in that minty condition. Lovely drum and total respect for your playing!
A glorious find!

That shell looks fantastic for its age. Amazing condition all around. A true piece of history.
Incredible find on your beautiful vintage snare drum. Even my oldest Radio King is from the 40's and that Ludwig is in premium condition. Congratulations!
Down the street from the Ludwig factory in North Carolina there is a Tyson chicken plant. That's where you'll find drumsticks.
T variety you share with us is insane. Felt your excitement. The drum was speaking...."whoa, that nice. Feeling the love....who are you?? Whoa whoa, what was that? No no, go back....yeah man, that! Smooth, beautifully mastered drum rolls. Best drummer on YT hands down.
Carter, great video. Thanks for your contributions to the drumming community. Keep up the good work.
This sounds like an afternoon at the ballpark in 1930
Simply the Best! 😇👌 Incredible feelings in grooves...Majestic crisp sound!
Okay, that is my dream drum. 6.5 Mahogany. 1929 is the icing on the cake. Congratulations on a great find. That is sweet!
That snare is killer. Love the old 20s Ludwigs. Makes you wonder if at one point William F. Ludwig held that drum. Did you have to do any cleaning or polishing or did it come all cleaned up?
This is beyond amazing. Thanks for the in depth tour. The historical significance is mind blowing

Masterful comping during that first song solo.
What a great find and it sounds so good too. All these years, all this high tech and 90+ years ago, they already had it down.
