I like to imagine that he's actually a really terrifying person but only to his drums. Like when he walks into the studio as he's opening the door he's like ''You all better be nice and in tune in there!!'' and they're just so scared that they tune themselves. I guess he does beat them all the time. What happens behind closed doors, eh?
This man redefines what i think of and hear when it comes to the drum set. The soundscape's he's able to create are mesmerizing. In my opinion, the most musically inspiring drummer/percussionist on the internet.
Typically when I see mallets on a kit my attention span is rather quick and I want to move on but this is definitely not one of them solos. This is so musical, tasteful and precisely played. Nice freakin job.
A superb skill you don't hear much of these days that's musical, powerful in its own way, with a high reverence for traditional disciplines without the steroid show-hitting of the drums. Very nice and pleasurable to listen to. Thanks!
@06:45 OMGGGGG literally all i'm striving for in practice. that single to double stroke transition was fucking GOD MODE!!! you're the best drum teacher i've ever had!!!!
I was bamboozled by what I just watch... simply amazing... extremely melodic and artistic, not just a technical showcase (wich in is own way was unbelivable) but a story told by the means of percussion!
I love the variety of sounds that he is able to get out of the kit. I think it's the most "esoteric" part of musicianship, been able to subtly manipulate your touch to get a different content. Really amazing work.
Totally agree. The high tuning also facilitates what great sounds he's able to pull out of this kit/configuration. That and his finger dexterity just floors me.
There is a duo record with Wadada Leo Smith and Ed Blackwell that i love so much. It works very well because of the tuning of the drum, very deep and resonant at times and punchy and bassy at others. It's very melodic drumming i strongly reccomend it. :)
Probably your best work. You run the gambit without it feeling like chapters. Maybe the first time I thought of one of your videos as a full piece that should be pressed. Well done. Makes me want to avoid using my left foot as much as I do.
That's some MUSIC right there!!. One of the finest musicians I've heard in many years!...........Melody, harmony, themes, dynamics, tone........and a bitchen watch! I hear some ruminations on DeJohnette, Bruford, and a not so well known drummer named Masahiko Togashi. Bravo sir !! ;:-)
As always, just beautiful. Love that snare with natural skin, and tone of toms, playing so fluid and engaging. Was a great way to enjoy my morning coffee.
There's not a CM video that hasn't immediately captivated me with a sense of awe and inspiration, man I would love to have that freedom around the kit. Impeccable and melodic.
I found your channel a few months back after starting to learn the drums by stumbling across one of your tuning videos. Your playing is sensational and inspires me every day to keep shedding and push my creative boundaries. You're a true force. Thank you for sharing your talent and hard work with all of us!
@@ppeppe I can't seem to find it anywhere anymore, so I'm guessing he must've deleted it. What I vaguely remember is that he said he tunes by feel/by ear rather than with a tuner and that he tends to keep his kick unmuffled. Beyond that it sounds like he tends to keep his drums tuned fairly high and doesn't dampen them much.
Exquisite playing Carter. The drums and cymbals sound wonderful. What a great sound the Ludwigs have. And, the snare is a perfect addition. Thanks for sharing this very creative demonstration of music supported by amazing technique.
Been watching the guy for a year or so, sorta hit me on this clip that his single roll technique reminds me of timpani rolls... Been obsessing over how he does that this whole time lol, good thing timpani rolls have established technique, I can study that
honestly, you just put Ludwig Classic Maples back on the map with this! Not that they were ever lost or forgotten, but I think that they have a sortof ebb n flow in vogue. This is pure 2021 vibes!
Mister McLean i listened to all your drums solo and i want to congratulate you ,what you propose is really nice ,i must say that besides a refined taste a great technique ,it was really a pleasure to listen to you ,thank you, a greeting from Italy by Daniele.
Rolls so clean coulda had em for thanksgiving dinner
was gonna comment a similar joke. Omg those doubles
I love rolls and thanksgiving
yes. his name is actually Carter M. Clean.
And dripping with budda!
one of my favorite underrated details of carter’s playing is you can never catch him in the act of turning his snares on lol
🥷🏻

@@cartermclean mind sharing which mallets you used in this video?
it's at 4:03
as he's doing the ride and kick you can hear the strings straighten against the drum
Now that you mention it, I never did😬
Drums are capable of melodies, this proves it
This is not just fabulous drumming. This soothes the soul and clears the mind :)
3:29 that one touch on the ride was so satisfying

They say that on quiet nights you can still hear that crash over the hi-hat ring.
What a showcase of extraordinary master of craft. Absolutely in awe.
Thanks!
@@cartermclean Carter, you're what Federer is to tennis..nuance, intelligence, rhythm, balance and just purely beautiful to watch!

Giving it a try 👍🏻

Every drum and cymbal is picked and paired so perfectly
beauteeeful!!!
A beautiful story told on a drumset
Best tuned drums on the planet. No muffling needed :)
Carter McLean is on a completely different level. This is like watching an amazing film

Deep exploration, textures, moments are protagonist in this art work.
Every aspect of your playing is phenomenal... But the control and speed on those single stroke rolls is just sensational.. 👏👏👏
Sonically mesmerizing. Technical, yet artistic. Transition from singles to doubles...flawless. Well done sir. Well done.
Beautiful Playing Carter
this is soo good i wish this was on Spotify so i could add this to my playlist!
love the little groove at 5.33 circa
Nice! I like how it has movements; Beginning, progression of ideas and conclusion.

Made me rethink my practice today and get my head out of the books and just play. Great sound, Carter thanks!
it just becomes so therapeutic at a point ... amazing drumming...so clean and musical...wow!!!
You really made me start practicing my rudiments again. Those effortless fill are so controlled and dynamic I’m gonna binge replay this all day
I liked this video while the ad was still playing.
I could watch this all day. Just lovely.
As always, just beautiful. Love that snare with natural skin, and tone of toms, playing so fluid and engaging. Was a great way to enjoy my morning coffee.
Remo coated ambassadors on maple toms sound exceptionally sweet when played by drumming guru Mr. McLean
Thanks for this drum oprah!
That was really good story. I enjoied it.
Superbe, que de musique.
Merci beaucoup.
Pleins de belles pensées pour vous et les vôtres.
