    Thank god for UA-cam and thank god for your video! We just pulled carpet from a couple rooms and I’ve been thinking about doing this! This information was incredibly helpful and that’s the look I want in the rooms! I’m going to give this a shot and try all the tips you suggested! Thank you again for making this video!

    This is an incredible video and literally the most basic straightforward one I’ve seen on this topic. My husband and I poured a slab to build our dream home almost 3 years ago. Covid shut us down and we just started back up. Just so others have an idea our slab sat in the elements for almost 3 years! Now that we’ve started back to building I’ve gotten two bids for companies to stain and/or seal that were $14k and $16k. We were beside ourselves! I knew there had to be a way to do it ourselves but didn’t know where to begin. I watched video after video but it still looked so complex and involved either acid washing or grinding our slab before we could stain/seal. The main level is over 2000 sq ft so I knew that wasn’t practical given I’d be doing most of the work myself with my husbands busy work schedule but every professional video made me think this was the only right way to do it. I accepted that and reached out to my local Sunbelt Rentals who happened to have a flooring specialty store nearby. They told me the only “right way” to do it was to rent the grinder and it involved a 7 step process with various grits of pads. They even offered the products used to stain and seal. So here was the kicker…the grinder was $900 per day or $4500 for the week bringing our total to $7k. Stain and sealant was less than $900. The other $8k was equipment and grinding pads. I was beside myself! I knew there had to be a better way. It is true what is being said in this video regarding the water test! Thankfully we passed the test and water absorbs quickly in our slab. This video just saved me almost $6k so thank you so very much! We may try the sprayer route given I plan to seal as soon as my electrician and plumber finish their second phase but before sheet rock goes up. We currently just have framing and the roof on. It probably would be a challenge with Sheetrock finished but I plan to rent a floor scrubber for about $300. It cleans/scrubs and sucks up water along the way. We will have to thoroughly shop vac and scrub some areas no doubt before we use the scrubber though so it sounds like the cleaning phase will be the most crucial. Thank you so much for making this video, your method and this product seem like a dream!

I have been going back and forth in my mind about how to do my concrete floors… like the acid stain look but we are living in the house… and don’t want to deal with toxicity… don’t like water based stain look…. Thank you. Four years ago I bought a house with beautiful stained polished concrete floors. They have a dull shine and are definitely porous so I'm always making sure no one spills anything acid based on it like juice, etc. I'm looking for something that will give a long shine, is durable and lets spills bead up. There were a few etched marks by my frig where ice cubes had fallen. Right now I'm using a cheap floor shine stuff but it does NOT seal. I'm sharing incase anyone else is considering concrete floors. They are not low maintenance but better than carpet.

    is sealing the concrete the same as finishing it? I'm moving into an apartment with unfinished concrete floors and thought that I could just seal them like you show in this video, but is there necessary steps in between other than cleaning?

    • @LifeOnTheRidge
      @LifeOnTheRidge  2 роки тому

      I’m not 100% sure but most concrete is “finished” a certain way. Smooth finish.
      Broom finish (which will be rough texture)
      I would think in a dwelling it’s probably smooth finished that hasn’t been sealed. If that is the case you should be able to follow the steps that I laid out and be fine. But I always recommend doing extra research as well. Thank you for watching!

    Hey there, do you happen to know if your concrete has fibers?
    I'm told that most concrete slabs in houses are fiber reinforced concrete. but my concern is that if I do this, when we seal, it may make it feel really rough with the fiber. Supposedly, the fibers look like little hairs once it’s finished. The sealer may harden them and make it rough feeling. I wouldn’t want to have to sand it after. Just wanted to know if your concrete had fibers?

    • @LifeOnTheRidge
      @LifeOnTheRidge  2 роки тому +2

      Yes our concrete is fiber mesh. But when they finished the concrete it made it smooth. No fiber sticking up. I’ve read about what your talking about but we’ve had no issues with ours.

      just make sure the floors are as clean as possible and don't put the sealer on too thick. You can always put more coats on if you feel like its too thin but putting it on too thick will change the look. Also, start in an area of your house that people won't notice mess-ups as easily. You'll get the hang of it pretty quick!! Thanks for watching!!

    why didn't you seal the concrete under the carpet? Wouldn't that protect the concrete from future stains or pet accidents?

    • @LifeOnTheRidge
      @LifeOnTheRidge  3 роки тому

      True about spills creating stains under the carpet, but it’s under the carpet so we’re not really worried about it. And we don’t allow animals inside.

      They are just smooth finished concrete floors but aren’t that slippery...unless wet of course.
