Another thing about Percy is he's more like his mother then any other Weasley. He and Molly both have a narrow idea of what a successful life is like; getting top marks, becoming Prefect, Headboy, and getting a nice safe desk job at the Ministry.

That was very different. Dumbledore's dad killed those 3 muggles in anger because they hurt his daughter in a brutal way. He could have received a lenient sentence, but he did not want the Ministry to know that Ariana was an Obscurial. He spent the rest of his life in prison to protect his daughter from becoming a magical experiment. The situation is not so black and white.
But Percy would still be called Dirty Percy ;)

Neville and Snape were bullied in their younger years however Snape chose the dark side and Neville chose the Light side. This is the same between Neville and Peter except they were considered less intelligent by their own friends.
Ron and Sirius were loyal friends too. Ron to Harry and Hermione. Sirius to James, Remus and Peter. Both of them had suspicions about at least one of their friends. Ron with Harry about getting together with Hermione. Sirius with Remus about being the spy. And don't forget the both LOVED food.
Harry and James had looks, and both of them had fiery, red hair wives.
Lily and Ginny were red heads, they fell in love with a Potter, they were fiery.
Lily and Hermione were smart. Both of them showed that you need not be a pureblood to be successful, being a muggle born isn't bad.
The difference was Neville's friends stuck by him and supported him while Snape's friend didn't
@@SG-pu3rx Yes, to be honest, I guess Lily did for some time and everyone else in Slytherin were focused on Voldy to care about Snape. Or, it might not have been mentioned but Lucius might have been there to protect Snape in their two years that had overlapped. I mean, Lucius did tell Snape to become the godfather of the only child that he had.

Not watched the video yet but I just want to say that I think Percy is extremely overhated. He genuinely was the black sheep of the family, and just because he was more introverted and had different interests, was relentlessly teased and mocked especially in the POA where I did feel very sorry for him.
Yes he did make mistakes but he’s not this awful person. Imagine working so hard for a position in a family where you’re barely seen and then basically being told that you didn’t earn it, granted Arthur was right about Percy being used but to a young adult who had desperately sought approval from his parents his whole life, being told that you didn’t really earn the position you felt like you had worked so hard for has got to hurt deeply.
He wasn’t really introverted and tended to be outspoken on several occasions, but other than that this comment is spot on. Fans go on and on about how Percy is the worst, how he betrayed his “loving and supportive” family for some job, when really only Molly was shown to be good toward him. And he didn’t just choose some job, he chose to advance in the career he spent half his life working on in the same institution his parents hyped up for years.
While I don't necessarily agree that Percy is an introvert, being an introvert doesn't stop people from being outspoken it just mean they find being outspoken and social draining. @@Mario-SunshineGalaxy64

@@TheDrBlobfish12 You’re most likely right, it’s just that I always figured that him not spending time with his siblings had more to do with Percy having other priorities rather than being introverted. Like in CoS when he was invited to play Quidditch by Ron and the twins he declined and I think it was to continue writing and sending letters to his girlfriend, Penelope Clearwater. Later on he didn’t want to hang out with his siblings during the winter break and while he said he only stayed to do prefect stuff I have a feeling he instead went to hang out with Penelope, who stayed at Hogwarts as well. And then there’s GoF where he spent a lot of time in his room doing work stuff, like his report on cauldron bottom thickness.

One thing they don’t have in common is that Dumbledore doesn’t share the same name as a Thomas Train like Percy does with a certain green tank engine on Sodor

It is surprising that two characters from two different generations have so much in common.

I think they were sorted into Gryffindor because the sorting hat could tell that they had it in them to make huge sacrifices. Dumbledore's being his ambition and relationship with Grindelwald to right his wrongs, and Percy's being his career and everything he worked hard for to protect Harry in the end. It doesn't seem to be in a Slytherin's nature to make sacrifices unless it'll benefit themselves.

@lewisleung5228 But they do share a love for magical creatures, and were both wrongfully expelled from Hogwarts.
They are similar because they're redheads with glasses sorted into Gryffindor, but shared more Ravenclaw or Slytherin traits. They had top marks, had big families to look after, and huge dreams ahead of them.
Plus, they both had a lust for power and abandoned their families at one point. That and they both ended up with PTSD after losing a sibling. Dumbledore watched Ariana die in front of him, while Percy (and George) found Fred's corpse.
Well, history does tend to repeat itself in some way. This is just one example within the Wizarding World.

Both of them remind me of how when we're young we have grand & often unrealistic ambitions for our lives which fortunately are tempered quite a bit as most people get older.

I gotta say Morgan- When I saw the title I raised and eyebrow because I didn't think about this. I have read the books and seen the movies more times than I can count. It is always fun to read/watch. In the movies of course it's not properly shown, and I wouldn't call myself a Harry Potter expert but I am knowledgeable in the story no arrogance just honesty. I should have realized it damn. So thank you for a great video and for opening my eyes.
Will just say this, I find Percy over-hated and I honestly felt bad for him. He just wanted to excel in life and Fred and George were just straight up nasty to him and I always wished he and Arthur would just have a calm, one-to-one to talk about being overly-ambitious

Luckily the rest of his family didn't spend basically the rest of their lives resenting him for his actions, though I suppose he didn't have any direct hand in Fred's death. I know people might defend Dumbledore saying they don't know who was responsible for Ariana but his turning a blind eye to Grindelwald's dark side that he admitted he knew was there did help lead to that fight.

I honestly found it surprising that Albus Dumbledore and Percy Weasley had so much in common as characters, despite how Dumbledore is more popular than Percy.

Could you explain how a Muggle born becomes a wizard/witch.
One thing that makes them different is that the trigger for the friendship between Dumbledore and Gellert was the death of Kendra. If she hadn't died, he would have gone on the world trip with Dodge and wouldn't be in so much pain and irritated about being head of the family so young...
For me, that tragic episode is what sets them apart. Dumbledore wasn't power hungry before Kendra's death. He was knowledge hungry with the correspondence with the greater of his time and going on that trip... Which makes them completely different.
Percy was power hungry and pompous since we met him with his prefect badge. ;)
One major dufference is that percy got married unlike dumbledore. Percy also did not get featured in a chocolate frog card unlike Dumbledore.

Ok look, I went back to your latest Harry potter video in the hopes you'd see this. You did a best quotes video on all the HP characters and it reminded me of the best paragraph I've ever read in fiction. In the 6th book, when Dumbledore is talking with Harry and explaining that he's protected by love, that final paragraph in that chapter is the most beautiful thing in fiction, period. I'd love to see someone, anyone, cover that.

Maybe they casted brown haired guys for the young Dumbledore roles, to separate Albus' early likeness to the Weasley family members, besides weren't Richard Harris and Michael Gambon brown haired men when they were younger, long before the "Harry Potter" thing? I have watched "Camelot" at that was the only movie that I had that stared the young brown haired Richard Harris. I wouldn't know much about a younger Michael Gambon's early colored movies, because technically, my first Michael Gambon Movie was Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" and he was already grey in the hair at that time.

It is not mentioned in the books, but in the movies McGonagall, Sirius and Peter as humans, had cloths. Peter turning from rat to human, had cloths. But when turning back to rat,,, lost his cloths. Sirius seems to turn directly human in cloths, or possibly covering himself with a jacket when harry comes in at Kings Cross Station. McGonagall, turns from a cat to human with cloths, twice. "Whats up with that"???

Percy ignored Harry because he was the only Weasley in the family who believed in Fudge's lies about Harry and Dumbledore; Percy was just too arrogant for his own good. A young Albus Dumbledore might have wanted power for both him and his lover Grindelwald, but Percy did not want power for power sake, he just wants the glory of being fully recognized as a ministry official.🍲4💭😅

I agree, Percy was a dick !!! it's hard to believe that he is literally holding Harry and Ron by the scruff of their necks when they are brought before Umbridge... is this taking it a step too far in believability ??? Honestly, I never understood why Percy, Dumbledore, Hermione became prefects (same with some others). Sure they were brilliant students, top scorers, confident and rule abiding. But shouldn't they also be empathetic, someone who the majority of their housemates can trust and confine with when you have problems/fears/anxieties of some sort, someone who helps and supports others, potentially has some charisma and talent for leadership?
Or am I misunderstanding the concept of prefect entirely😅 Besides people like Bill, Charlie, Ron, Draco, it seemed like they usually "just" picked the current 5th grader ace students of each house, some or another head teacher had some hidden or open bias, others had "political" agendas behind picking certain people (Remus to check Sirius & James, Ron to check Harry, Fred, George...) And being Prefect was more like being an unpaid "executioner/enforcer/extended arm" when teachers couldn't be around, giving people with already "inflated egos" or greater degree of arrogance a stage to parade it...
On the other hand, since the Hogwarts house, point and prefect system is based on British boarding schools/British international schools... I guess it is illustrating the politicking, elitism, favoritism, focus on relationship towards superiors (teacher-student in this case, ace students gain higher favour/focus/nurture/are more liked than "bad" or average performing ones who'd actually benefit from more support by the teachers) awarding/rewarding and grooming system in British education...Merit vs Virtue in a way
