I love sparkling water and find adding that bit of bubbles helps me drink more water throughout the day. My old Sodastream seems like it’s becoming less effective after about 10 years of use, so I was curious what’s new. In this review I’ll try the new Sodastream Art to see how well it carbonates water, what else it can or can’t do, and I’ll also take a look at the design and the new Quick-connect cylinder technology. I’ll wrap things up with the pros and the cons and let you know if I can recommend this machine to you.

    SodaStream Art Review
Design & what’s in the box
IN the box you get the Sodastream Art, plus a starter carbonation canister and a bottle.
With a slim profile it doesn’t take up a lot of space, and the physical lever gives it a retro vibe.
Unlike previous models from Sodastream, a dishwasher-friendly 1-litre bottle is included this time (although the capacity is limited to 840ml to allow for carbonation). You can also pick up smaller to-go bottles to make it a party. The design is intuitive, and bottles click into place without much fuss.
One caveat: the Art model uses Quick-Connect Cylinder, which is placed like a coffee pod and locked into place. In previous models, the cylinder had to be screwed tightly into place. So, suppose you had some old Sodastream cylinders; they will not work with this model: a compromise to be made for a far simpler mechanism, which will likely become the default in the future.
The machine comes in four colors: blue, red, black, and white. Our review model is black, and it seems to play well with any kitchen color scheme you may throw at it. Sodastream also provides a stirrer when you're mixing cocktails or different flavors. Classy touch, Sodastream.
    Performance and Overview
There is little fuss when it comes to the setup. The canisters and the bottles don't ask to be aligned. The bottles themselves also come with airtight caps, which keep your drink fizzy even if kept for a few days. There is a satisfying click whenever you replace the cylinder or pop your bottle in. Sodastream recommends cold water for best results, and it works well with different types of water (filter, distilled, etc.). The lever is soft to push and easy to operate; each lever pull adds a shot of carbonation to the water, so the amount of carbonation is easy to control. If you're not very OCD about the number of shots, you can also hold the lever down to adjust the amount of carbonation. The machine is quiet enough to go undetected when you're craving a seltzer at ungodly hours but loud enough to see if you're cylinder is nearly done and how much fizz you're putting in.
Taste is a very subjective topic. We tried adding some flavors and found that the amount of fizz varied with the types and amounts of flavor used. Flavors emulate popular sodas, spritzers, and fruit juices, and we found the vast number of mixtures between flavors, ice, and fizz very satisfying. However, the Sodastream Art does not carbonate sodas that have gone flat. It instead encourages experimentation and control, living up to its 'Art' name.
The amount of fizz varies between mild sparkling water and a punch found in energy drinks. Flavors are sold by Sodastream, but there is also a small but rapidly growing market of flavors, mixtures, and syrups that makes you feel like a bartender. We've had a lot of fun mixing up different types of drinks. Still, the options are vast, and we used our review unit far more than initially anticipated.
Since the Sodastream Art has few moving parts and is a nifty little machine, it only demands a little space and is easy to operate and clean up. Depending on how many times you pull the lever, one cylinder should last between four to six weeks; Sodastream claims that each canister is suitable for the carbonation of 60L of water.

Important note: Sodastream says to only do 1 second burts for a maximum of 7 seconds. Just holding down the lever might be a bad idea if someone isn't paying attention. Great video!

Just got one. Filled water bottle up to the line. Put it in the machine and pressed the button. It promptly blew two inches of water out the top of the bottle.

Haha that happened to me once, but I had actually filled over the line by just a little bit. I think this machine is a little more powerful than were used to.

Which of the three brands you've mentioned here, has the most inexpensive cost to resupply what ever source item chosen for creating carbonation?
The labor of carrying water in bottles is removed, so is the cost equal when using tap water?

Why do people always abuse their sodastream? It's not hard to pull the handle, stop forcing it or it'll snap off or break internally. "It's made out of plastic" *pulls down on the handle forcefully*

Did Anyone know that you can in fact save a ton on cylinders by buying an adapter from a company called SODAMOD which allows you to fill paintball cylinder and use them with your sodastream, those can be filled at most piaintball shops for less than $5. i'm saving a ton for money and not giving one cent to Pepsi co. or supporting the Israel ocupatiom of Gaza!
