Thanks so much for this! I unpacked ours last night and the quick start card is less than adequate. Tips 6 and 10 were the ones I was looking for. I didn’t realize the bottle clicks in and that made all the difference. I also didn’t understand putting the flavor in after. Your video demonstrates quite clearly why.
Fill to the recommended line. Carbonate as usual + a little more. Add flavour and top up with cold water. No drama. Bottle will hold fizz longer if there's no space between the liquid and the cap.
Apparently you’re not paying attention because the context is he was taking the back off the soda stream and that’s what should be easy and not hard… 🤣
I recarbonate the flat drinks all the time. You just have to monitor and slowly pump the gas in. I have a manual soda stream and didn't know there were automatic ones. The manual one is good enough for me and I can really control how the gas is entering the liquid. Just keep pushing the button and watching the coke or whatever drink so that it doesn't gas over. Then leave the bottle attached for a while. After a minute of so take the bottle off and it tastes exactly like the original.

@EverythingPractical Only for water 💧, if you are doing anything other than water you want to be below the line to allow for expansion and less mess / clean up.
If you are below the line, you just blow the CO2 on the liquid, and it is not efficiency injected. The injection needle should be submerged, hence the line. If you want to do it like that, go for it. But I will not recommend using the machine line this.
Excellent video. Had mine about 3 weeks, still on first cylinder & fill 1 water bottle each night. Had the explosion of adding flavor before carbonating! 🤣 and until watching your video, have been trying to screw the water bottle onto the sodastream, not realizing you just pop it on.
I flavour all my drinks first and I just gas them up more slowly. I put some gas in and then wait and come back and put more in. I gas up 5 bottles with glucose and flavour. You get a nice custom flavour drink that is fructose free. I use pina colada mix and other mixes. The mixes do have a small amount of fructose but not significant. You can also just use the small flavour bottles from the Asian store. Banana, blueberry, strawberry and may other flavours. The also sell vegetable color if you want to deepen the color. They also sell a blueberry syrup in the same section of the store with pancake syrup. You can use that to make a blueberry drink. Just a small amount of flavour and glucose to sweeten it.
I was at a loss when I realized that the only instructions provided with my Sodastream were the simple graphics on a single card... wholly inadequate. Thanks for your step-by-step explanation of what to do and why!
Also I just found out today , when you start pumping in the gas, the whole bottle drops down about 1/8 inch. This is supposed to cause the O ring to seal better. I didn't know that and I thought my soda stream was defective. The O ring is also the new system and it is not as good as the old ones where you actually screw the bottle on. Screwing it on makes a better seal. This is what they were saying on Redditt. So Soda stream makes the "new and improved" version which is worse than the old one. They sell the old ones still at Walmart. I wish I would have bought the screw on model.
I made a mess with my new sodastream and turned to youtube for help. Your video showed me the proper way to insert the bottle. Works great when you know how. Thanks!
Bless you Anthony! I was so glad to come across your video. I was so frustrated trying to get my SodaStream to work only to watch your video and figure out it was the power cord that I needed to push in more. Thank you so much. ❤
One thing I learned before I even bought mine. Add the syrup to your glass, then pour in the carbonated water after and mix. It's a pain to clean the Sodastream bottle. This way it saves a bit of effort.
I was literally boxing my Soda Stream to return when I found this video -thank you it works great with your help. The directions are terrible that came with it.Thank you
Once upon a time, soda jerks could add fizz to your soda. That was a fresh made soda, I used to get cherry coke and vanilla coke before they were even offered mainstream. And they were really good back then!!
Thanks for the tips! It's great that you demonstrated what happens if you incorrectly put the syrup in first and then try to carbonate it, instead of doing it the correct order. Don't be stubborn, people. The instructions are there for a reason :)
Just gave the kids a soda stream for Xmas and this morning first time using it I put the syrup in and went for it and yep explosion. Came to you tube found you and your video was brilliant and I now know how to use my soda stream, thanks heaps
One of the intro/ tips and tricks video for the soda stream. I bought my soda stream back in the winter and I've been trying to perfect it everytime I use it.
when you re-corbonate a "soda" / drink with syrup, BEFORE you release the bottle from machine, you have to tap the sides of the bottle to "drop the bubbles". These bubbles is what causes the explosion. You can do this if you drop a soda can / beer. You heard of people tapping the top of a can.. but, tapping the sides is what works best. Look up other videos on this subject. Proof it out for another video ;)
I heard about tapping a beer can but never tested it out. I thought it might be a prank advise. I gas up old coke and pepsi all the time, I am just careful not to put too much gas in all at once. Then I wait a while before removing the bottle. Most of the time it works. I need to hone my skills a little more. Also I don't think he mentioned that the bottle is supposed to drop down about 1/8 inch when you start putting gas in. I just found that out today. I know mine was dropping down and I though it was a defect.
Great video. Thanks! I didn’t realise that you could buy a tonic for the SodaStream. I’ve now bought a couple of tonics so I shall never run out again. Thanks once again
Hi Anthony, happy to have found your UA-cam channel. I have a question regarding my SodaStream One Touch unit.....had it for years and love it. Recently, it has started blowing co2 out around the bottle, still will get some carbonation, but most is blowing by the bottle. I think it is the black rubber gasket that the bottle fit up against. How do I get at it to replace? Your help would be much apprieciated.
i recarbonate soda and add syrup before carbonating all the time, but i have a terra. i was annoyed that the guide said not to without a reason so i experimented lol. i just carbonate a few times, let it chill, then repeat until it’s fizzy enough. the key is to let it sit for about a minute or two so it doesn’t overflow when you take the bottle off of the sodastream. after, i give the sodastream another puff without the bottle to clear the nozzle of any liquid and wipe it with a cloth. because i only use sugar free syrups and sodas and have a non-electronic sodastream, ymmv because the nozzle may clog or mold may grow more easily if you let it overflow, and electronic components may get damaged from continual overflowing.
I attempted twice to carbonate my water was wasn't inserting the bottle properly. Your video helped so much! (The picture instructions did nothing for me). I do question if I can use water that has been through a water softener? I don't drink the tap water currently. I've had to use bottled water for my experiments.
You can use any liquid , I carbonate flat drinks all the time and I always add the flavours and sugars first. You just need to practice how much gas you are putting in and then wait to let the gas settle and then pump more gas in . I might do that 10 times to get a nice fizz. Also I use glucose powder to sweeten so that my drinks have zero fructose. Then you can experiment with different flavours. You might get overflows sometimes but it is not the end of the world.
You are so funny with the syrup filled bottle about to explode. Wish I watched this first. I didn't quite understand how to secure the bottle and we had a big puddle everywhere! 😂
Like when you buy a store bought carbonated beverage and some how don't realize it got shook up before you open it over your lap. And end up with a huge puddle everywhere and look like you wet your pants - at work no less. Such fun.
Using cold water is key. If you don't have cold water or you already drank what you had and need more, there is an easy and quick workaround. Put ice into a pitcher. Add water. Stir. Now you have cold water. Pour the cold water only, no ice, into your Sodastream bottle and go for it. You can pour the finished drink over the ice if desired. No waste. This trick can help deal with cold tap water that is always warm, like it is in my area. Or if you are out at a picnic or some place that doesn't have truly cold water. All you need is plenty of ice.
I use my ice maker and put 6 or 8 cubes in fill the water and shake it up. The ice melts in 30 seconds or so and you have very cold water soon to be pop.
Just bought one for the first time.. wish I had watch this video..cause I didnt push the bottle solid enough and had water exploded everywhere! I also thought about using this machine yo re-carbonate my favorite soda.. well I learned that it’s not a good idea. Lol. Thank you for the tips!
Hi. I just went a little daring and used my one touch Soda Stream to carbonate my Spark and Rehydrate energy drink. I also added fiber and collagen powders a little juice and ice I made sure the powders are all dissolved before I put it in. I only filled to just above the soda stream logo on the front of the bottle. It worked great! I just waited a couple minutes to remove the bottle.
I learned a lot from the Tips and Tricks. I got a portable 1/2 liter bottle and it was way over carbonated. Help line didn't under what I was asking. Now I know what to do.
Wow. Appreciate you taking the time to demonstrate these things. Did learn a couple of things to get started with my new soda stream. But mine did not come with a plug. Hmmm?!
I dont own a Sodastream machine but my educated guess is that maybe if your decarbonated Coca-Cola is cold enough then you could recarbonate it much easily
I just got manual fizi. Have no idea what one touch is, I guess there’s a cord to plug in. I’m kinda nervous using it. There’s no instructions just info pamphlet on safety guide and warranty info. No manual instructions, really? But this video help a lot. I’m kinda nervous using it. Wish me luck.
Enjoyed your video. I have one question. I was given a Soda Stream without any info. I have a lot of trouble removing the bottle after carbonation. I do like a lot of bubbles. I make a terrible mess trying to pull the bottle off. I'm always afraid I'm going to break something. Advice?
It sounds like you are building up lots of pressure. My suggestion would be to carbonate in stages, releaving the pressure once or twice and then carbonate more
It is the O-ring. It might be dirty or sticky from some overflowed drinks. You can try spinning the bottle a little and then pull forward hard and out. Mine stick sometimes also. I take the whole soda stream and put it in the sink upside down and flush out the connection. Clean it out and flip upright and shake all the water out of it.
Thank you for the video! Considering ordering one. One question: Is there any difference if I use a non-sugar, flavor only "syrup"? i.e. Can I add a no sugar flavoring prior to using soda stream?
You have truly helped me! Could you maybe show water with Country Time lemonade powder mixed in before carbonation and then adding the carbonation. Also, maybe try carbonating wine. Thanks!
You are supposed to shove the bottle on and then push it forward. Then when you start gassing , the bottle is supposed to slide down about 1/8 inch to seal better. I just found that out today and I don't think that is in the instructions. I thought there was something wrong with by soda stream. But now gas is leaking past the O-ring and the unit is less than one year old. I also saw Walmart selling an older type that you screw on. I think that one is better and by comments on Redditt , it is better than the O-ring type. So this shove on and click down bottle system is crappy compared to the old ones that you screw on to make a good seal. I bet they don't blow the liquid out either. The old type seal against the top of the bottle and not the side like the o-ring.
Hello, thanks for the nice feedback! To carbonate with the SodaStream, you need a SodaStream compatible bottle. The top of the bottle is specific for the machine. If you just want to store water or the carbonated water, any bottle will do 😊
Hello, there are many flavors to choose from. You can try your favorite flavors and adjust the strength by adding more or less syrup. There are even soda flavors. My personal favorite so far is grapefruit, for a hint of grapefruit flavored water 🙂
I want to carbonate Mio type water enhancers. What machine should I get... the Drinkmate, some other one? Also, I don't want the tip or tube taking on the colors of the enhancers. After blue, blackberry and Fruit punch it could really get ugly looking. I would also like to carbonate A&W rootbeer which comes in powder form and I have to mix it in hot water, shake and cool. Thanks
Level 2 is pretty strong. It could be that your bottle is not screwed in properly or that it is empty (even if new, could be a filling error and you need a new CO2 bottle)
I've been thinking about getting one of these.. I was wondering... will this only work with SodaStream bottles, or can I use and old plastic soda bottle?
@@EverythingPractical Cool, thanks for the info... Another question... I've seen a few videos on here that teach you how to refill the expensive C02 tanks at home for a fraction of the cost. Have you tried doing that? How does it compare to getting OEM tanks?
Don't fill the bottle to the line if you want to re-carbonate flat soda. I fill it about half way. You won't get a whole bottle of soda, but at least you won't be wasting either.
Thanks for the comment 🙂 As long as the bottle remains sealed, it will remain carbonated. Like the carbonated waters and sodas from stores. It only loses carbonation if it is open. Hope this helps 😀
What if I don't want a full bottle - I'm one person and don't drink much.. just want it the odd time. I'm not sure if I'd be wasting the gas in the canister or do I just click the button once instead of 3 times (I have the genesis)?
I just bought a soda stream but despite filling to the water line when I put it in the needle isn’t submerged in the water, is this supposed to be the case? The water also got flat within 30min in the fridge even when it was sealed!
The entire needle won't be submerged, only the tip (lol) otherwise just fill it a tad more until the tip of the needle is in the water. It's not normal the water goes flat with the top on the bottle... Was it well carbonated before?
@@EverythingPractical Yeah, I know it's not supposed to be fully in the water haha, but it wasn't even touching the water which I thought was weird based on the extremely unhelpful photo instructions they provide haha! I think it may have been because I used room temperature water, it seems to hold up better when i tried with chilled water! Thanks :)
Hello! I am not very familiar with the model, unfortunately. Sorry! You can always try to see it if works, but maybe try outside incase it makes a mess 😉
Air is fine. It it's liquid then it's over filled. After it's done injecting CO2, I take out the bottle. You can leave it for a few seconds if you like but I dont think this changes anything. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have anymore questions 🙂
Thanks for the comment! After loads of testing, it's best to add flavor after carbonation. I have put out a long video as well testing lots of different drinks-i have also broken that video up into short videos. Maybe some of them will be of interest/helpful for you.
Hi Do you have to always fill it up to the line every time you carbonate a drink or can you do it with half a bottle? Also, can I carbonate an ordinary fruit juice?
If you dont fill up to the line it still works but you waste the CO2. Filling to the line also ensures the injection needle is submerged. Do not carbonate anything other than water, otherwise you will have a mess on your hands, as my tip "11" Enjoy!
I appreciate videos like this that don’t skip over the basics. So often we get stuck at the simplest steps.

I did the same thing with the water bottle Now I know it just pops in
Fill to the recommended line. Carbonate as usual + a little more. Add flavour and top up with cold water. No drama. Bottle will hold fizz longer if there's no space between the liquid and the cap.
Yeah, makes sense
But if you drink any there's going to be space between the liquid and the cap
Why top up with cold water?
Carbonation stays in colder water better

Don't fill to line when recarbonating , as sugar is added you drop below the line.
Sugar is added after carbonation, so add water until the line.
@EverythingPractical
Only for water 💧, if you are doing anything other than water you want to be below the line to allow for expansion and less mess / clean up.

Best tip of all is to tilt the bottle on it's side about 45 degree angle before adding syrup it won't fizz up.

Ty! Now I can use mine! Had to consult youtube just to find power spot on unit.
Thank you for the video! Considering ordering one.
One question: Is there any difference if I use a non-sugar, flavor only "syrup"? i.e. Can I add a no sugar flavoring prior to using soda stream?
Thank you for the comment.
To be on the safe side, I recommend adding flavoring afterwards.
Great video, thanks!!! I am getting one!!!
Happy to hear this was helpful!!
Glad that I watched your video after ordering my new soda stream. I'll avoid some pitfalls for sure. Thank you for sharing
You have truly helped me! Could you maybe show water with Country Time lemonade powder mixed in before carbonation and then adding the carbonation. Also, maybe try carbonating wine. Thanks!
Happy to hear!
Thanks for the ideas!
The old type seal against the top of the bottle and not the side like the o-ring.
thanks for all the info!
Happy to hear it is helping 🙂
Thanks for the video.
Why buy the corded version? Are people too lazy to press a button for ten seconds? BTW
It's not really laziness. It's convenient, and the dose is always the same.
Counting to ten or using a stop watch will produce the same result, no? @@EverythingPractical
Hi. I like your video very helpful. I have a question. Can I use any 500ml bottle?
Hello, thanks for the nice feedback!
To carbonate with the SodaStream, you need a SodaStream compatible bottle. The top of the bottle is specific for the machine.
If you just want to store water or the carbonated water, any bottle will do 😊
@@EverythingPractical thank you very much
If it doesn’t work when you press one of the 3 top buttons , try pressing the button to the side not in the middle ! For me it works every time.
Before watching this video, I did everything you said we shouldn’t do. 🙃 water everywhere 😬
Oh no!!!! Happy to hear it was helpful!!! 😃
What brand flavors do you recommend? I don't recognize what you are using.
Thanks
I just got one and tried button 2. Tasted flat. What's a good amount for what typically comes in your average, store bought soda?
Level 2 is pretty strong. It could be that your bottle is not screwed in properly or that it is empty (even if new, could be a filling error and you need a new CO2 bottle)
I've been thinking about getting one of these.. I was wondering... will this only work with SodaStream bottles, or can I use and old plastic soda bottle?
Only SodaStream bottles.
A purchase you will not regret!!
@@EverythingPractical Cool, thanks for the info... Another question... I've seen a few videos on here that teach you how to refill the expensive C02 tanks at home for a fraction of the cost. Have you tried doing that? How does it compare to getting OEM tanks?
I actually havent heard of refilling at home so I shouldn't comment lol but it doesn't sound worth it to me... the bottles are only like $15
@@EverythingPractical Thanks for all the help! 🙂
How long does a bottle stay carbonated for once you made it with syrup? Will it last a few days? Thankyou
My experience is it's best consumed within a couple of days
@@EverythingPractical ok thankyou
Thanks Finally I know how to pop the water bottle in. I watched another video and she was screwing it in.
Don't fill the bottle to the line if you want to re-carbonate flat soda. I fill it about half way. You won't get a whole bottle of soda, but at least you won't be wasting either.
Not really tips. More like operating instructions.
Lol you are hilarious ! How long does the carbonation last in the bottle?
Thanks for the comment 🙂
As long as the bottle remains sealed, it will remain carbonated.
You need to fill to the line. You can also buy a smaller bottle.
In pressing your chosen button, does it automatically shut off or do you do that manually?
It automatically shuts off. The advantage of the one touch system 😃
@@EverythingPractical Thank you very much!
can I use the water dispenser I have at my home? It has a super cold option
Colder the better!!
@@EverythingPractical Alright 👍
great tips thanks.
The only question I have is can other bottles with the same size top work on the red sodastream
Yes 😊
I wish I watched this video before i tried to carbonate cranberry juice
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks :)
Colder is better for sure! 😃
Soda Stream should pay you for what that don't offer there customers "a video with good directions" Thanks!
Would be nice 😉
Thanks for the comment 🙂
Hey bro...
I have sodastream Gemini Vintage...
Can I use this without having carbonated bottle? Can we use another thing instead of bottle?
Hello! I am not very familiar with the model, unfortunately. Sorry!
You can always try to see it if works, but maybe try outside incase it makes a mess 😉
Does yours continue to slowly leak after you pull it out? Like it’s not spurting but I can hear and feel a little bit of air. Is that normal?
Air is fine. It it's liquid then it's over filled. After it's done injecting CO2, I take out the bottle. You can leave it for a few seconds if you like but I dont think this changes anything. I hope this helps!
Let me know if you have anymore questions 🙂
Thanks! Do these machines need to be cleaned?
No cleaning is necessary. I've never cleaned mine, except on the outside.
Can you carbonate white wine?
Can I fill the carbonating bottle less than the 840ml line and still carbonate as per normal?
Not really, as the needle needs to be submerged.
can you do one if you use cordial instead of syrup? (from 🇦🇺)
Thanks for the comment!
After loads of testing, it's best to add flavor after carbonation. I have put out a long video as well testing lots of different drinks-i have also broken that video up into short videos. Maybe some of them will be of interest/helpful for you.
Can you carbonate wine??? Can you do a video carbonating wine
Video coming soon!
No. You can only carbonate water.
Do not carbonate anything other than water, otherwise you will have a mess on your hands, as my tip "11"
Enjoy!
Way to demonstrate buying soon now
Would less pump the carbonator last longer?
Yes, correct 👍
Thank you!
Thank you for your demo it helped a lot and I'm 222 sub buuuyay
Thank you, and thank you for the support!
