I’ve had four doppelgängers in my life. One was my teachers niece, she was 9yrs older than me but her younger photos of me were creepily similar, we could have been the same person if her eyes were darker. I met her and she’s lovely, when we did meet people remarked how similar sisters we looked.
Another time I was on a metro and this guy and his wife walk up to me, coincidentally calling me Emily, I was really confused especially as he approached with a hug. His wife looked at me properly and said ‘oh your not Emily’ sounding confused, once again the couple showed me a photo of my doppelgänger and she was older but there was a closer age gap this time, her eyes were green and she had dyed highlights in her hair. Once again change eyes wash, out highlights we could pass off as twins if wanted.
Another time was on holiday, this one we were less similar. There was a year between us and we definitely would have passed as sisters if we wanted too. The main difference was that she was blonde, and I’m brunette. Eyes were the exact same and we had similar last names give one vowel.
The last time was in a shop I tried on an outfit and as I walk out to show some friends a group of girls I don’t know walk over and start calling me Millie. They seemed to know me well, but then actual Millie walked out and boom confusion. It didn’t help we wearing the same top but different colors. Despite height difference we could have been identical twins. There’s only an inch between us and we’re actually friends now, we get mistaken a lot especially when we’re together, even more so in masks!
My sister has had one in the past when she was a baby, growing up in a smallish community it was creepy seeing your 4yr old sister walking around with a complete stranger, we never managed to find out that girls name and barely anyone knew her.
Sorry it’s a book, I’ve met lots of people I can pass of as siblings with as well, and plenty cousins!

He had nearly the same clothes, face structure, skin tone, hair, and glasses as i had that day. He was taller by an inch or two though. We were both so freaked we never spoke or hung out.

And when I get to the dining room to get water I saw him studying . And I swear I freak out , shouted . He told me " What's wrong ? " I said theres another you in the room " . I have a doppelganger like this! Once when I was little my brother woke up in the middle of the night and went to sleep in my parents' room and saw me sitting at the bottom of the stairs in my favorite purple summer dress. It was the winter. He called down that I should come to bed and I didn't respond. So he went and woke up my mom to come get me. She came out of her room and called me to come up and I didn't. So she got my dad who would be able to just pick me up. When he came out, I wasn't there anymore. They went to check and see if I was in my room and I was in bed, asleep in my winter nightgown. To this day my mom and my brother swear that they're not making it up and it was one of the freakiest things they've ever seen. She apparently looked identical to me and was wearing a one of a kind dress that I owned.

As a biologist I want to clear up and add some context to the "there is limited diversity" thing. There is PLENTY of genetic diversity in the human race. Genetic diversity is often measured as the # of known alleles available per genetic loci or gene. Every gene has two and ONLY two alleles out of potentially dozens or hundreds. The professor at Cornell likely used the term "limited" in a non-unlimited sense not in a diminutive sense (he didn't imply there wasn't a lot). Genetic diversity can be lower (though still a lot) when populations breed within the same population (people of one country tend to breed with members of the same country). This "limitation" on breeding is what likely increases the chances of two unrelated individuals looking like each other despite there being plenty of diversity. Fun fact, Africans have the highest levels of genetic diversity per gene because their populations have been evolving the longest while indigenous Indians in South America have the lowest.

I became aware my Doppelgänger through my friend's Doppelganger. I was walking close to campus and my friend's Doppelganger walked up to me and called me a name that wasn't mine. I responded using my friend's name and asked the person if she was ok. At that point we realized we had mistaken each other for someone else. That evening at dinner with friend's I mentioned the event. My other friend said "Oh she's probably talking about that girl that looks a lot like you. I embarrassed myself last week because I tapped her on the shoulder at a cafe and when I realized it wasn't you, I just said sorry and backed away". Another friend mentioned that she saw me on a weird side of campus for major the other day but didn't have time to talk so she never approached who she thought was me (it was not me). A few weeks passed and we ended up running into each other at one of our school's store. We quickly realized that we were the person people were seeing. We became friends on face book. We even lost weight at the same time...which didn't help people tell us apart and also confused people as they would see us taking classes or going to the gym at times that seemed out of character for the other. I'm no longer on FB but I hope she is well.

She'd been with us for at least 10 minutes or so, and a lot of people saw her come in and go too.
But when we contacted her that she hasn't still returned to the school is when we found out that she'd been sick from the previous night and can't go to the school that day.

Then at the last school, it fully sounds like that class were collaborating to pull a prank on her. I mean, none of the adults saw anything, did they?
I think the rumors got out of hand and someone was like "haha wouldn't it be funny if we all acted like she ACTUALLY had a shadow doppleganger".
