    My husband and I traveled about 5,000 miles from Florida to Yosemite and back during the pandemic and it's a special memory! Be careful driving, look twice and not in bad weather!

    Back in the '90s, I did this several times. I too slept in Walmart (and truck stop) parking lots. To be honest, those trips thru North America are some of my favourite memories. A couple of my friends I went with say the same

    National Park pass is good for one calendar year. If you are military, a retired vet, or retired over a certain age, you can now get a lifetime pass for the price of a one year pass. Pay attention to the park pass information page because there is often sales at least once a year. The park pass is not only for all national parks, but also national monuments, military parks, and national beaches. It also gives camping discounts for many areas. It is really good for other discounts within the parks.

      The run-of-the-mill America The Beautiful pass does not give you any discounts, nor does it pay for parking. Lifetime passes for the elderly give you campsite discounts

      @@RW86424 That is true, but the good news is the new Veteran Pass is now a lifetime pass that is free for all vets and family members who are gold star vets.

    Very helpful. As a young adult ive never had to plan this kind of stuff since my mom and dad did everything for me on road trips but this was really insightful for someone on their first cross country drive

    That’s actually so cool! Nice tips ladies ! I’m planning a trip with me and 5 of my girlfriend’s. And I thought the costs would end up being closer to $3000 a person. I suppose it depends on how you budget and plan, but seems like it really isn’s too hard to plan a trip for less cost .😀

    My family and I met two couples who were traveling across the country. They were staying at K.O.A. campsites, which is like a campsite version of a Holiday Inn. Each K.O.A. campsite has places for rvs and campers, tent campsites, camping cabins, and lodges. The showers have doors that you can lock, perfect for women who are traveling. They also have a store and gas station, etc. And no I'm not sponsored. 😂😂
    I wish I was though. 😁😄

    I’m going to have ~$1500 (not including my emergency fund) for a California road trip I’m planning. Since I’m young I start a new job every year or so to gain varied job experience. I thought I’d plan a few trips while in between jobs this time,

    Im sitting here thinking "Alright this gonna be a lot still..." Then ya'll saying it was under $2000 just made me SO HAPPY
    😭 I want to do this in Canada, go visit my friend in Labrador then head out west all the way to British Columbia... This might actually be a possibility
    😂 Hell before the world went to shit I was ready to save up $4000 to go work on a production in China for a month... Shouldn't be too hard to convince my parents for this...
    😂

    I live in New Mexico and when this whole covid thing is over, I'll really need a break. Any tips for how you guys planned it out, or did you just kind of wing it day by day? Any hard lessons you learned along the way? Thanks for the video. Also.. the west coast is so expensive but so damn worth it. Santa Cruz has my heart I love skateboarding there

    Did your job let you take that much time off or do you both work from home? It's a good thing I didn't drive in Kansas. I was in the state under it.

    QUICK QUESTION! How did you decide how much to bring? Did you search for hotels and stuff before hand to figure out prices? How far off were you?
    I have such a hard time figuring out money BEFORE the trip!

    • @samanthaelliott
      @samanthaelliott  4 роки тому +5

      We each saved up $3000 before the trip, but we estimated only needing around $2500. We didn’t book anything before we left except for our Airbnb in Chicago because we knew when we would be there. We estimated gas by our car’s mileage, the total amount of miles we would be driving, and the average price of gas. We also averaged prices for cheap hotels/Airbnbs, and nights that we camped were either free or very cheap. We also had a budget for eating out and groceries. Our estimate was pretty close, and we even ended up spending less than we thought we would, only around $2000 per person. There are plenty of ways to make a trip like this much more expensive or even cheaper, depending on what your priorities are.

      Hey! So we always shoved all the camping gear in the back of the truck, and then our bags with all of our clothes in front of that stuff. That was pretty much all we could get in the trunk. We had our cooler and tub of food in the back seat, and the rest off the camping stuff. We always kept any technology or anything valuable under the front two seats. That was pretty much all we had. Hope this helps some :)

  • @rachelwyman5660
    @rachelwyman5660 4 роки тому +8

    I am really curious how far in advance you booked your air bnbs, hotels, etc? I know it can be hard to guess when you will arrive to certain destinations.. were you able to find places last minute?

    • @samanthaelliott
      @samanthaelliott  4 роки тому +1

      We booked pretty much everything either the day before or even the day of. We never had a problem finding air bnbs or hotels last minute, but a lot of the first come first serve campgrounds in the national parks will be full if you aren’t there first thing in the morning
