Music is such an individual thing, and I am blessed to have a wife that agrees with me that Silence is Golden. In May/June 2019 we did a road trip from San Jose to San Diego to Key West to Maine to Quebec to Seattle to San Jose, 11,000 miles in 32 days. We rented a car and stayed wherever tripadvisor told us to. But....we never turned on the radio or played any music for the entire trip. Did a lot of talking :) As I was returning the car at the end of the trip I realized I had never even tried to turn the radio on. BTW, was a wonderful trip, the brisket in Odessa, TX is the best. The beach in Ogunquit, Maine is the prettiest. Really enjoy watching you two play along in your travels, thanks for sharing.
I feel so seen! My husband and I also switch every 2 hours on trips and I always put on a musical to help pass the time and keep me engaged. My go-to's are Hamilton & Phantom of the Opera 🎶
Great tips! Like how you use the small coffee pot.. while it looks cool to grind the beans and do the pour over, it’s such a time suck when all you want is COFFEE. Safe travels! ❤
So funny. Luckily the woman that I am with listens to basically the same stuff I do but the banter between you two is funny and totally missing the seat belt buckle is a real struggle LOL
Bwahaahaaa I would personally die if I had to sit through musical theater during a drive 🤣 my husband and I are the same with drive music rules…and like you both- one uses noise canceling headphones when the other is driving ha haaaa.
Thanks for all the tips. I would add to the altas that (if you can remember) download offline google maps for your road trip. That way if you lose service you still have navigation. The thing I always forget is to delete them after and they take up storage so make sure you do that too after 👍Oh, I finally went to a cracker barrel (in Yuma) and boy was it busy. I checked out the store inside and it was way too bright with a bunch of granda type stuff 😆 I didn't eat there because I rarely eat out, I like to save that money for more gas to see more places 🙌. We (me, Bella can't drive sadly) just drove 14+hrs yesterday to get back to the house (after 3am). We will be here for maybe a week or so and then maybe headed to Sedona. Did you guys get to do anything there?
The offline google maps is something I always think of but always forget to download! Haha. We’ve actually only ever had dessert once at a Cracker Barrel and they didn’t include the ice cream so never again 😂 it’s definitely a grandparents store too. Sedona is cool but we didn’t get to stop on this trip unfortunately cause of weather
@Meghan & Matt no ice cream?? 😢 I hope you get out there again. I have so many things pinned in the East Phoenix and Tucson area. I'm hoping by the time I get back these storms have stopped 🤞 I really enjoyed an east coast trip I took in 2012 (Florida to Maine) I hope you get to check out the coast as much as possible. Not as good as the west (yes I'm bias) but it's a cool drive 👍 Safe travels, my friends
Sorry to hear about your latest scamming attempt, but I’m glad you guys are going on one last trip with the beast! Knowing what you guys know now and starting van life from scratch again, would you: A) Buy another new/newish van for $12k to fix up, and put the money saved towards potential repairs?
I think if we were to do full time vanlife again we’d stick with the $30k van + building costs but if we were to just build a part time rig we’d go with the most cost effective option

WOW that sounds like quite the road trip. We spend 24/7 together so sometimes the drive is the only time we get to listen to whatever we want!

We’ve gone through sooo many different ways to brew coffee in the van and the mini coffee maker is by far the easiest way!

lol the seatbelt struggle happens to the best of us
@@Meghanandmatt 🤣 isn't that the truth
Great tips. Also, now that I see the cheap gas prices in Texas, it makes me want to go there. 😀
It is a lonnng boring state of you drive through so maybe just go for the BBQ and fill up a couple gas tanks to bring home 😅

The musical theater on long drives (or any drives) is TORTURE 😂
