25:58 - Tia talks about not having seen much of America, but as an Aussie, they've actually seen more of Australia than I have, as I've never been to Western Australia or the Northern Territory.

Thanks for the 'petrol' nod to Oz AND with an Aussie accent no less. The accent is pretty good 👍 Fun fact for the Aussies who call petrol pumps 'bowsers',,, I learnt from an ep of American Pickers (and just read the Wikipedia article before posting) that - "The first gasoline pump was invented and sold by Sylvanus Bowser in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on September 5, 1885,[4] pre-dating the automobile industry- It was commonly used to dispense the kerosene used in lamps and stoves." So I grew up using a brand name 😟 I'm off to Hoover the carpet and then make a few Xerox copies ☹ [yes I'm old]

As another Aussie, I am not at all put out by Tia’s love of Big Things!
Secondly, I have watched a few videos on various interesting aspects of Route 66. I would have LOVED to have driven it but I didn’t have the time (I was working not playing in Texas and Washington DC). I will watch this all with added interest.
When you get back to Aus you might like to find a few bits of the original Eyre Highway unsealed and much degraded but still drivable in sections. In a past life I drove that seven times in both directions in a 1963 Ford Falcon.

  • @Wdeane1957
    @Wdeane1957 9 місяців тому +3

What a great video. As an Aussie I am enjoying the many historical Route 66 buildings and signs you are discovering. The back stories are very interesting and an insight into what life was like when Route 66 was a major highway.
I dont know if you've watched the "Blues Brothers" movies but they were set in the Chicago area.
So many iconic landmarks you were near - Cook County Building, elevated railway, Joliet (where the prison was), Elwood (the name of one of the brothers).
    Enjoy your road trip.

Once again a fun video. I am glad I am not watching in public. People would wonder at the permanent smile on my face and wonder what why.
You have crossed The Nullarbor now time for Route 66. I am sure you will find great iconic US attractions , some may be cringeworthy, but that is what makes America …America.

While we're talking car names., someone above said Cherry, but as it's a rental and "fast" how about tweeking it to Cheri (Share-ree ) for a bit of glam? OR as it's a Honda (Asian company ) and we're still tying in the zippy thing, Goji? Go-gee, everything about that is about speed.

LOL. Young people looking at paper map is like a deer looking at the headlight. People don't truly appreciate how amazing GPS navigation is: it not only shows you where you are going, the direction you are going BUT also WHERE YOU ARE. And it's so tiring to constantly keep track of where you are just so that you know you are on the right track. Those were the days.

We just came back from Mexico via Amarillo and forgot about rt 66. About maple syrup.. maple leaf is on Canada flag because when early explorers came from Europe they had the beginning stages of scurvy by time they arrived. Native peoples cured their scurvy by feeding them maple syrup to drink.

10:20... Ah, the ol Super 8 motel (Originally $8 a night.. similarly the budget Motel 6, was $6 a night) Stayed there often in the 90s on driving holidays.
I've heard that they've gone downhill since then.
14:00... I still have a 30 litre plastic tub full of my old road trip maps and atlas's from Aus, US & EU. Bloody heavy too.
You were so lucky to get onto a half capacity cruise.
Damn, you missed the Cahokia Mounds.

Tia and Chevayo, wherever you have been in the world, I have never been concerned for your safety....now you are home again, I strangely am. Good luck.
As soon as Tia said "It's time for our first attraction" I laughed and said gleefully "Something BIG?!".....YES!🤣 You mean to tell me America is now copying our great Aussie tradition?😅
At the end where you said "there's so much in our own back yard', I agree, I think a lot of Australians fall into the same trap and think they have to be travelling to other countries to see worthwhile things....not true. Our own countries are great and your's is no exception.👍
