- North Carolina defeated Maryland 78-63 on February 19, 1984 at Carmichael Auditorium in Chapel Hill, NC.
In a game loaded with talent, UNC was led by Michael Jordan (25 pts), Sam Perkins (15 pts), Brad Daugherty and a ton of other future pros.
Maryland, coached by Lefty Driesell, had its own share of talent led by Len Bias (18 pts), Adrian Branch, Keith Gatlin and Ben Coleman.

This was when Lenny Bias began to show flashes of his future stardom. One of the most shocking deaths in sports history. Bias and Bird on the same team would have been something to see.
Rest In Peace: Al McGuire, Dick Enberg and Len Bias.
Dean Smith
@J D I did not know that, sorry to hear.
And Ben Coleman. Coach Smith and Coach Gutridge. RIP.
Carmichael Auditorium . The original blue heaven.
Bias follow up rebound/dunk was electrifying!
Thank you to all who post these vintage UNC games. I was too young to even remember the 84 Tar Heels but love watching every single UNC game before my time. Thanks again for posting them
RIP Lefty Driesell
The ads are hilarious! 😂
How I loved going to Carmichael.
Thanks for this, really
Just watching the commercials is fun
North Carolina 84 Team should've won the National Championship if it wasn't for Kenny Smith injury.
1:38:16 Build up to MJ dunk over Ben Coleman.
1:39:43 MJ just stands on the perimeter waiting for a defender.
I miss NBC Sports covering basketball games. Dick Enberg & Al McGuire were the best.
Len Bias v MJ, what could have been in the NBA
MJ got his ankles broken at 1:09:41
Brad Daugherty 25:50
MJ at 1:38:21
MJ at 1:29:38!!!!
Sam Perkins 30:09 - 30:20
MJ defense
14:50, 22:12, 27:46, 36:15, 1:09:07, 1:12:00, 1:17:09, 1:18:01, 1:29:26
Kenny got hurt UNC undefeated, then after loss, UNC won all then lost two, Kenny not 100 percent caste on, Dean should have stayed with Steve.
Was one of them against arkansas?
@@TheDarXide. yes it was. Arkansas with Alvin Robertson, and Joe Kline.
I remember the Kenny Smith injury vs LSU at Carmichael Auditorium. I'm a Georgetown fan, and honestly thought we were gonna meet up in the Final Four for the 1982 National Title Game rematch. You were the #1 Seed in the East, we got shipped out West as the #1 Seed.
The ceiling is the roof.go.tarheels.
