IMO, college basketball was at or near it's peak at this point. Ralph Sampson played 4 years of college basketball. Michael Jordan played 3. Today (2020), I need a game program to know who's playing.

Nah, I'd say the '92 and '93 seasons were peak. Who on earth decided on this 3 point line???

@@Sapper65.....That 3 pt. line was only used in ACC games. I don't remember anyone else using it. It was an experiment. When it came back in 1986-87, it was standardized and used by all teams, all season long.

College basketball peaked just before the NBA began bringing in teenage talent on the regular like major league baseball.

NBC's "Super Bowl Tournament" marketing campaign never really caught on.

It was the NFL’s label for the 1982-1983 playoffs. Because of the strike-shortened season and its impact on schedules, the NFL dropped the divisional format for one season only, and seeded 8 playoff teams in each conference based on W-L record, regardless of divisions. In the NFC, the top 2 seeds were both from the East-Washington and Dallas-followed by Green Bay and Minnesota from the Central. No NFC West team got a home game; in fact, only Atlanta made the playoffs at all.

AFC Superbowl Tournament? That's a new phrase for me.

It was a strike season and there were no divisions that year, thus it was referenced as a tournament.

Coincidentally there’s 2:04 remaining in the game around the time of the block.

Funny to hear Michael Jordan regarded as just another basketball player during the pre-game; Sampson got all the attention.

One of Dean Smiths greatest coaching jobs. No way UNC should have swept UVA that year.

Roger Tallman composed NBC's title track of this time (learned that on an upload of mine of the opening of a 1985 broadcast).

Ralph Sampson had the biggest hype for a center coming out of high school since Lew Alcindor, but, while he accomplished most of Alcindor's individual success, he never came close to matching his team success....
