Damn it is amazing the shit that triggers emotion. My Dad was at this game and he passed away 11 years ago. I went from Army/Navy Football highlights to David Robinson videos to crying watching a basketball game that happened 34 years ago. Life is weird!

You know it's vintage when you hear Axel F, from the Beverly Hills Cop Soundtrack. Seriously, those of us who were kids during that era were fortunate to see so much great collegiate talent back then: Bias, Robinson, Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin, Wayman Tisdale (R.I.P.), Reggie Miller, Steve Alford, Keith Lee, Akeem Olajuwon, etc....all I need now is an R.C. Cola, 6 wings and mumbo sauce, and potato wedges from Smokie's on 14th St. (D.C. Carryout), my old school Adidas Forums and Adidas sweat suit.

That's not necessarily true. Bird's back already was starting to have problems by 1986 and it's impossible to know how good Bias would've been in the pros, especially if he would've developed a drug habit. By the time Lewis died Bird was retired. The Lakers and Pistons were both great all time teams and the Celtics probably got everything they could out of their era.

Even if Bias & Lewis didn't add any length to the careers of Bird, McHale... Boston would have rolled on to a few more titles in the late 80's to early 90's. Lakers wouldn't have kept up - they were done with titles in '88 anyway; Pistons never would've gotten to the finals, & Bulls would've had to wait even longer.

it would have been a lot. with bias coming in bird and mchale could have been relieved of playing 40 minutes a night. KC Jones had a big problem letting young guys "come up" though. Sam Vincent rotted on the bench when if you think about it- Vincent, Bias, Lewis could have been a "bench team" speed juggernaut. and Vincent could have helped preserve DJ too.
but would KC have let them play? Bias was too good not to play, especially with McHale's nevicular fracture. McHale doesn't even walk normally to this day. these guys let it all hang out for years and years past their prime. sad to watch but they were so good that as a hardcore Celts fan they still got you thinking they could win it all. which they could if it wasn't for those 82 games before you started over.....

This is some quality basketball, better than current NBA. Can't believe how bad things have gotten, that old college basketball was far far better. Only part that sucks is the end because there is no shot clock, and they just wast time, just like they do in soccer still.

When people compare anyone to Jordan, I laugh because Jordan was and is the best to ever play the game (Bird said it too). Bias really was in Jordan's league. Actually bigger and stronger. His game reminds me of Bernard King.

Bias was James Worthy a top 50 all time player, Boston would have been so good it's scary as the 1985-86 team was arguably (along with 1987 LAL and 1996 Bulls) the most talented of all time then drafted Bias.

I would go so far as to say that at this point in their lives, Len Bias was easily better than Jordan. No contest. However, you have to remember that Jordan was nowhere near his prime until he hit the NBA. I've watched several full games of Jordan as a Tar Heel and it's a very pale shadow of the Jordan we see in the NBA.

a black man rising right in front of navy midshipmen. bias was the best when he had the ball, and he passed it as well, just that Jordan was more media-ready and Bias didn't channel his energy towards that aspect of showmanship, but 1 can see he would dose off even when playing like in this game where he is just stuck in the paint. as he gets tired he's just moving around trying to help the team..but miraculously even 30 years later. HE WOULD MAke PLAYS from nothing. Jordan had a plan to execute. but bias watched nd attacked . he was tired nd should of slowed down but being young black in America during the cold war. was too much for one being to save the world from international struggles. they set him up fail. R.I.P Len

Come on, you know the NC coach held back Jordan. Still, Jordan did better in a team concept which helped him in the NBA. MJ's coach is said to be the only guy that kept Jordan under 20. Hey Marvin, no doubt Len was a beast. He might have been a bigger, stronger version of Jordan. Certainly, a terrific physical specimen. Just a damn shame his judgement was not as good as his basketball. We Hoopers are still sad over his needless death. Lenny's death makes no sense. He might have been murdered. He had enough drugs in him to kill a bull elephant. Assuming he survived then what? If he had that kind of habit, he would not have lasted on the Celtics for long. Proof we need leaders not followers to work+play and stand for something bigger than themselves.

Hilarious, I've never seen Doug Collins as a young guy before. Watch David Robinson after shot blocks run the floor on the break. It's insane, almost gazelle like. I've only ever seen one big run like that and that was a young Rasheed Wallace on UNC. Bias would've been successful in the league on athleticism and strength alone. Kind of hard to compare him to anybody though. Haha he definitely had the NBA flop down at 31:51 as I was writing this.

To all you young people. The only reason Michael Jordan elevated his game to greatness was because of his Sneaker Contract with Nike.
It stipulated Jordan must win Rookie of the year, make the All Star Team every year, score at least 20 points every night, and win an MVP withing 3 yrs in order for him to have a say on how his sneaker will be made and to recieve his 100000 dollar a yr deal.

Bias was better than Robinson, an equal athlete, and more skilled at everything. If not for the drugs, he would have played about twenty minutes a game as a rookie, spelling both Bird and McHale, and prolonging both of their careers. But the decision to take drugs ruined all of that, and I was never a Celtic fan. That 1986 draft was an ill-fated one, drug problem children Chris Washburn, Roy Tarpley, and William Bedford. Including Bias these were 4 of the first 7 players chosen, the 2nd and 3rd , and 6th and 7th. Two other players in that first round were Brad Sellers by the Bulls, where it is said that Jordan ruined his self-confidence, and John "Hot Plate" Williams by Washington with the 12th pick. He ate himself out of the league, although a wonderful player, and highly skilled for a man who was 6'9" and 275lbs. And I include dribbling and the passing in those skills.
