Like Jimmy White in snooker playing with Stephen Hendry and Steve Davies and a host of others. Always the fans favourite but always falling at the last hurdle 😭
I feel Kristian, Gustav, and Jan have all changed triathlon on the course, but Lionel has changed it off the course. He's pulled back the veil behind the scenes of a day to day pro triathlete and really has made the marketability of a triathlete exponentially better. All the other pros with UA-cam channels are because of him. Maybe he won't leave his mark as a world champion but he definitely has left his mark and legacy in other ways
And in the races where he is in the mix, he has an uncanny ability to consistently finish the races in dramatic style. I don't think he is the greatest triathlete in the world compared to the competition, but I 100% believe him to be the greatest 'racer'.
Lionel is the reason why I’ve enjoyed Triathlon as much as I have. He has a whole hearted perspective that is generous, honest, kind and inspirational ❤
Yeah that HR is insane. Seeing the difference between elite athletes vs mere mortals is so humbling. I saw world class marathon runners run 6minute miles at 120hr. Like speed walking for normal people.
I doubt Lionel will win a world title but to me it makes no difference - he has succeeded in making triathlon entertaining to watch, follow, and participate in and his races and media postings are endlessly inspiring and motivating. I hope he keeps it up for another five years at least.
You are making a lot of sense here! Your swim is what it is, you've put an enormous amount of work into the swim. Train your strengths, at this point I feel as though the run is best chance of making significant improvement in your performance rather than working overtime for marginal gains in the swim.
Lionel tell it like it is. Mystery Pro is just adding fuel ⛽️ to the fire 🔥. Best person to lay it all & I mean all on the line is Lionel. Love the honesty & frankness. But when you pull the tiger 🐅 tail be sure not to let go as it tends to bite
it's really nice seeing your run power numbers. my run threshold is about 300w, but as I'm fat, that equates to a 5:45/km pace. it's very motivational that if I could increase my power by 20% and reduce my weight by 20%, the speed increase is substantial!! thank you for sharing your data :)
Thanks for inspiring us All Lionel , Keep pushing keep up the good work, so fun to watch, and though there’s ups and downs, you’ve given so much More to cheer for. . Keep Rollin
From 9:11 to 14:45 with captioning on the screen was just a breath of fresh air, had to turn off the auto captioning! Was hoping to watch the whole thing through with it like that but disappeared, what’s the reason behind it? Appreciate the effort in captioning the video. Looking forward seeing what LS got in the bag for the future races, always my triathlete to watch no matter what 🤙🏻
“If that’s your self worth….” In reference to winning….that’s exactly why people are out there doping. They will do anything to win. It’s not about pushing yourself, it’s not about exceeding what you thought was your limit. It’s only about getting that one spot on the podium and that’s what defines them. Even if no one ever finds out they doped *they* will always know and that’s why they continue doing it. Because it’s never enough.
Love the power / pace / HR gauge on the screen. Insanely low HR for that power / effort / pace. No idea of your LT HR or max though. Probably around LT1 based on lactate and around HM pace??
Hope you figure out your swim soon.....would love to see how the field deals with a complete Lionel Your bike and run combo is great....added with that anger and motivation ....it would be a proper battle
No doubt, as long as the fastest swimmers are also amongst the fastest on the bike and the run then life is going to be unreasonably hard if you are not amongst the fastest swimmers. I can only think of one triathlete capable of eating into himself and against the odds catching up with the front and that is Lionel Sanders but I'm sure it must be getting harder and harder each year too.
I’m 6’2” and 180 lbs. I’ve been running regularly about 50-100 miles per month. But can’t seem to improve my pace. I’ve been serious runner for about 5 yrs. 🤷
It seems like we all have the same attitude about St George last year not being the real world championship. Can we all agree that Nice France will have the same feel as St George and Gustav will be World Champ until October 2024
Lionel seems to 'discover' knowledge that has been available for, what, a decade? Allen, Scott, Van Lierde, Reid, going back 20 to 30 years front pack swimming has been necessary other than in an occasional race. So when is he going to 'fix the swim'? Regarding training, nothing is new since a paperback book on nordic racing published about 40 years ago.
Trevor Foley is mad about being “mediocre” and finishing in the top 10 at O-Side… give me a break, dudes been a pro for like 5 minutes. A nearly unheard of pro finishing in the top 10 at this past race is sick, you should be humbled and grateful.
Lionel... an honest question - if you say your swim is not up to par with the best what are doing about it. Where is the World Title going to come from? I have a pic of you from Indian Wells on my wall for motivation. How is Dad Lionel doing?
I expect that he has a swim coach. I wonder if there will be any videos on progress in swimming. It'd be fine if he kept that a secret and a big surprise.
@ 3:49 - It's disconcerting seeing a wobbly triathlete wining in 7:49, given how lean Lionel is. I get fat helps in the swim, but not the bike, I would have thought, and definitely not in the run. But there he is, wobbling across the line in first place. Weird. Is that normal?
According to John Rogers, Lionel needs to join an actual swim squad if he ever wants to be competitive. Jan is just another member of the squad when he swims, not a triathlete.
Doesn’t matter if Lionel ever wins a world title. He will always be my favorite triathlete.
I totally agree with you
10x - this dude could have won nothing and I’d still view him as a decorated champion. The guys an animal!!!
Completely agree. He seems truly genuine no matter who he's talking to or if there is a camera in his face.
Like Jimmy White in snooker playing with Stephen Hendry and Steve Davies and a host of others. Always the fans favourite but always falling at the last hurdle 😭
Amen.

He is Michael Jordan (until 2022) and Conor McGregor (2023 onwards) of triathlon.
And in the races where he is in the mix, he has an uncanny ability to consistently finish the races in dramatic style. I don't think he is the greatest triathlete in the world compared to the competition, but I 100% believe him to be the greatest 'racer'.
@@coztebebude696 Honestly terrible comparisons. Literally nothing like the piece of shit that McGregor is, nor was he absolutely dominant like Jordan.
Lionel is the reason why I’ve enjoyed Triathlon as much as I have. He has a whole hearted perspective that is generous, honest, kind and inspirational ❤
I feel the editing, the music, the mood of the video leveled up on this one. Great job!
NO LIMITS!
Very refreshing words Lionel. You’re self aware and humble. You get it. We appreciate it!
Your enthusiasm about being able to train hard again is inspiring. Thank you for showing us along, Lionel.
Love the power tracker and heart rate monitor , makes you realize how fit Lionel is
No kidding. I see his heart rate in comparison to his pace and I’m in awe.
I can't believe he's running this speed at this heart rate. I'm so jealous. I wonder if I'll ever get even close to this.
He has a naturally low HR, he doesn’t have a high top end, there are pros and cons to both.
Yeah that HR is insane. Seeing the difference between elite athletes vs mere mortals is so humbling. I saw world class marathon runners run 6minute miles at 120hr. Like speed walking for normal people.
The highs and lows of training!!! Love it Lionel - great to see you back on track! 👍💪👌
Love that Lionel is just a man, who is doing as much as possible to be on high level! It’s just so human 👍🏻 certainly #1 in hearts!!
I doubt Lionel will win a world title but to me it makes no difference - he has succeeded in making triathlon entertaining to watch, follow, and participate in and his races and media postings are endlessly inspiring and motivating. I hope he keeps it up for another five years at least.
This video wins the "Establishing shot for a training day" award for 2023. Nice!
Lionel. You caught me today with your channel. I don't know you but you're a guy I can look up to and relate to at the same time.
Having the pace, power and hr on the screen was really cool, hopefully can keep it up
Best pro ever, hands down. Win or lose, mans the best!

Best! Always authentic! Honest! Real! Love it!! Thanks!! Question - Any strength/resistance training in the mix? thoughts?

Both funny and serious moments captured here--thanks for sharing.
Attitude conquers all, fear doesn’t exist anywhere except in your mind! 😂 Nice work LS, gents and Talbot!
Love that Lionel´s training partner has the indestructible Garmin 920xt. What a watch!

Coincidentally, the song during the interval run is called “Endless Loops” - Ooyy 😆
Glad your feeling better but you & Talbit today reminded me of listening to Bert & Ernie on Sesame Street, lol...keep up the good work.
When Lionel gets his language right (how he talks about things), he be a more consistent winner.
Good call on the antibiotics. They won't kill a viral infection.
Good workout, good music, good video 👍
Lionel entering his Bill Burr phase
Yesterday, my tubby butt ran a 930 at 170bpm....ouch. I guess no where to go but up.
no limit.....great motivation you give us and me Lionel Sanders...
Man it's great to see funny Lionel back. If only we could get a tooth knocked out.
Let’s go baby
The king 👑
There is blood in the water
I would love more videos and more often!😊
Love the video. For the love of god though can we please get metric metrics? Distance in kilometres and min/km for pace?
Yes always interesting videos ,,he’s replied to some of my comments,,he seems a pretty humble ish kinda of guy , good luck to him
Best video in ages….Boom
The Lion is back 🇨🇦
I think you need to try the galloping swim technique. You’ll get far better reach.
this is a brutal sport
Good job Lionel
I think Lionel is the mistery pro. 😊😊😊
Would Lionel ever have a discussion about his post-retirement plans? Would be interesting, even though he is still years away
Is Lionel for Real about Texas. I'm going to be racing my first Ironman and that would be crazy awesome if my hero is there Racing 2🎉 No Limits

Lionel, I use Olive Leaf Extract as an alternative antiviral. You can get it in flavours and just take it as recommended.
You are going to win that title champ! F what they say

Cam Wurf is the Mystery Pro. 🤣
Is Lionel self coaching now? Great video!
What are those glasses he is wearing in the car and on the run?
Lionel give yourself some more credit, you are top 5

Yeah Lionel
Can’t believe their pacing, it’s unreal. I can run a mile in about 5:30 and only do it once. Unreal how they can push the pace they do multiple times.
Love it 😂🎉
What did Lionel think of the womens race and Jewetts run?
I got good connections that says the tracker is right :)
Antibiotics makes you swear more 😂 and that’s brilliant ❤️😂
Could you guys toss in KMs and Min/km conversions in there on the stats?
