    After almost 2 years of reading articles and watching reviews I finally bought my Speedmaster Saturday 9/19/20 and delivered 9/23. No regrets whatsoever. I already knew this was going to be a great bike and it is. I’ll be 58 next month. now to research replacement seats.

    So many good bikes, so many good Triumphs, so many good Bonnevilles. Confusion confusion confusion.
    And now the even more mouthwatering Scrambler 1200 and upcoming Speed twin. What a time to be alive if you're a motorcycle enthusiast!

    Great review and I totally agree, like the horse burger joke! I bought a Speedmaster after seeing your first review of the bike. I was in the market for a cruiser type or just something that was easy to ride really so I’d already test rode three Harleys. Can’t get away with the Harley scene though, it all seems a bit fancy dress and fake to me! And Harley riders rarely wave back at other bikes which irritates me a bit!! I test rode a speedmaster and a T120 for comparison, (similar engine but totally different ride) got a great deal from Triumph Newcastle and I took delivery of my Speedy end of October. I’ve done about 300 miles on it, would have been a bit more if I hadn’t had to come away on holiday! I absolutely love it, really easy to ride, great balance and very comfortable, looks great and turns heads. I’ve got the comfort seat some reviewers said the standard seat can get a bit hard after while. Got a few bolt on bits from Motone. I’m thinking of doing the decat mod and a few other bits n pieces over winter then looking forward to next summer so I can get some serious miles on it.

      Do the angled grips become more comfortable after 300 miles? The angle of the handlebars are a concern of mine since my shoulders and wrists are very tight.

    When I go to heaven or wherever, I would so like to ride a different bike every day, like it seems to me like you do on your First Rides Andy! No need to give any thoughts about running costs, depreciation, insurance, parts supply, cost of spares, tyre wear, chain lube, ease to clean, weight, inside leg or any trivia detracting from the fact that all two wheels are brilliant rides! I so enjoy your enthusiasm. I so enjoy riding the UK roads. Even smile at all those white vans! Whatever the bike, your reviews give me armchair delight. I am so jealous in a nice way 😊

    The perfect bike for bimbling around Hampden, Loosley Row, Lacy Green and Devils Elbow (the hairpin. My brother stacked a different type of Triumph, a Dolomite, there years ago). Looked like you were having fun but didn't hear the pegs touch down around the Hampden S bends though!

    The combination of a Triumph cruiser, sunshine and The Chiltern Hills is what motorcycling is all about if you ask me. Years back I did that on my 2008 Triumph America and I’m still missing it. Great video - good stuff !

    Nearly ready for the 10,000mi service on mine. I'm a Brummie but live in Austin Texas, and have spent the past 9 months or so riding my speedy around the Texas Hill country lanes in the Texas sunshine. Bought the Speedy after looking at Harley, BMW, Indian and other bikes. All great bikes, but I'm so glad I settled on the Speedy. If a day goes by when I don't get to go for a ride, I start to get withdrawal symptoms ! .. It's like sitting on my favorite armchair with a throttle that make the scenery move at different speeds, all while listening to a pleasant burble from the standard pipes ;) . .. Apart from a comfort seat up front, I've left it completely standard. It'll cruze effortly at 50-65 mph, but will also easily go at 85 mph .. with plenty left if you can stay on and not get your helmet sucked off ! .. Gets loads of compliments here in central Texas and I nearly always end up chatting when I park .. Love it Love it Love it ..

      Ooh congratulations Dave - did you go for the whitewall tyres too? I've never seen one of those in the flesh but reckon it would look brill. Stay tuned for my in depth review on this one soon and congratulations on the new bike.....exciting times eh?

    • @qldgooner
      @qldgooner 6 років тому

      I haven't put whitewalls on it yet but am considering it for sure. I have changed to the black Vance and Hines, panniers and heated grips already. will do the brown leather quilted seat next and then maybe the tires. so many accessories to choose from the bike works out quite pricey. love your rides as I am originally from Hertfordshire and there are some very familiar sights. looking forward to your in depth review mate. keep the videos coming and thanks for putting them up.

    Hi TMF - been looking forward to this as I entirely blame you for your first quick review that caused me to go out and buy one of these machines! I haven’t regretted the decision - even for a moment. It is such a wonderful bike to go out for a quick spin on the B roads and also handles longer trips too. It’s so relaxing and, as you say, always leaves a smile on one’s face. There are IMHO some slight draw-backs such as the low ride causing the foot pegs to ground out (easily anticipated with a different riding style) and relatively short travel on the front suspension. That said, I just love it and now look forward to your “living with” review. Best regards as always, Alan

    I understand the mid-mount Bobber foot controls bolt up easily to the Speedmaster. Maybe you could get Triumph to fit a set so you can make the comparison. Also, IMO, this bike should have belt drive, at least as an option. Chain maintenance is such a chore!

    • @rogerboucher1913
      @rogerboucher1913 6 років тому

      Arthur Pendragon I’ve done the swap for the mids on my Speedy. Better, more comfy and now I can stand up to absorb bad bumps without killing my back. I’ve also decat and Piped to release the beast. The sound is great without being too loud. Has a very nice growl when you torke it. There is a belt drive option you could have... sooo expensive! I too would have preferred a belt. Not crazy about cleaning that chain.

    i had to sell all my bikes when i got married 37 years ago missed them ever since now i am 57 i have the bug again middle age crisis some people say but i have always loved motorcycles started riding when i was seven did motocross until i was 24 a motorcycle display team when i was a kid until 17 then i went onto enduro bikes and road bikes cb 250 honda suzuki 250 x7 i had a ccm 500 motocross bike which was my best mx bike ever i loved it had it for 6 years cost a bit to maintain but i loved it the megaphone exhaust sounded orgasmic the about six months ago my son bought a bike i never told him i used to ride bike so he reluctantly let me have a go down the back yard he was amazed that i just got on it and just sped away popped a wheelie his jaw hit the floor so then i told him about my past bikes so when i got off his bike that bug feeling started to creep back to me i have always loved triumph's had a bonneville pin up on my bedroom wall for years as a kid and norton commandos so now iam old a bit arthritic in the back i was looking for a comfortable bike low down nice seating position so i was looking at harleys but when i saw the triumph speedmaster i had the best of both worlds my favorite bike plus comfort and something which isn't going to rip your arms off when you open the throttle so the speedmaster is the one for me so i am applying for my cbt and theory and then the big bike test found a great local tutor near coventry uk whos going to teach my the finer points of riding get my licence and get my dream bike so i can plod around in my leisure and have fun your video was brilliant thank you have subscribed and liked from john from rugby uk.

    I do like the looks of the slash cut pipes. Personally I think they should have that style on all the tail pipes. Use the different arrangements, but use that style at the end. But I guess the idea is to have unique parts on the different bike types. I have a t100 and the prior owner put outbound slash cut tails on it. Sounds awesome. She gave me the originals if I want to change them. But I like the shorter pipes. A lot easier to do chain work. And also cleaning is easier, haha. But I do like the forward controls. I'm getting older and the sport bike ride is getting a little cramped on longer rides. One thing I d miss is a tach. I like a smaller one like the older bonneville, I believe. Anyway, thanks for the video. Enlightening. Ride safe.

    Main thing that concerns me is the weight. Around town the bikes Triumph made up to the early 80s was their power to weight ratio and ease to maintain. Tiger with its large single Amal carb had faster acceleration to 100 than the Bonneville which had 2 cars trickier to balance. Noise regs would kill them now. That's why they have to be liquid cooled. Honda CB 500/750s much heavier, more complicated. Last Triumphs had Titanium pistons for longer life- magic.

    Like you ive never had a cruiser, so this was my 1st ride/impression of one, i loved the seating position whilst stationary but found once moving with a bit of wind on my chest it always felt like i had to hang onto the bars to prevent me from falling backwards and this was just a road legal speeds, also my lower back started to feel uncomfortable after riding for a short while, i was also suprised how quickly and easily the pegs ground out, i touched down even on a very slow steady turn which spooked me a little bit.
    But i have to agree the engine is amazing and the finish and the looks of it are 1st class, i am not criticising the bike in anyway, it's just sadly not for me, so make sure you try before you buy, i think maybe a scrambler or street twin will probably suit my riding still better, pity though as i love the look of the speed master.

      ...yeah the pegs spooked me a little too not being used to that caper (as you'll see in my long term review)....I reckon the new Scrambler 1200 will be a corker! Can't wait to have a go on that beast....

    I love the Speedmaster 1200. Great review as usual and thanks! Question regarding the position of the leg rest and brake. How does it feel to keep the feet in that position and mainly during turns ? Is there an option to set the foot pegs and brakes to the regular position like in a Street twin / cup ? What are your thoughts on that? I love my Street Cup. But, for touring and long rides, I wish to get a Speedmaster.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  5 років тому +1

      I struggle with the feet forward position I must say - it's not uncomfortable just that the wind whips up your trouser legs!! I wouldn't fancy it on a long journey and I don't think a mid peg option is available (alas)...

      Absolutely. Low seat height, you can keep both feet flat on the ground and its very difficult to drop something that is so low. And it has less than 100 ponies for that much weight, which means no risk of accidental hooliganism.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer

    Perhaps I should not have tuned in to this vid but I just don't get cruisers?? Surely they are an American thing where they have miles of open roads, no corners and ridiculously slow speed limits. Now if you had been riding Triumph's great, massive and now sadly disconnected Rocket 3........ Perhaps the only cruiser I would like to get a ride on. Any chance of you blagging a go on one? You couldn’t be more wrong about this particular bike and the Bobber... the chassis and mono shock make for a shockingly good ride in the twisties. I read as much in relation to the Bobbers prior to having ridden one and remember thinking that they can’t be all that good... well a text ride later and I found myself being so impressed that I actually bought one and 4500 miles on the bike still blows me away. Honestly... book a test ride on the Bobber and you’ll see what I mean!
