The Oyster Perpetual is supposed to be an entry level Rolex, but I would take this over any of their ceramic bezeled, over priced, impossible to obtain, steel sports watches any day of the week. This particular OP is beautifully proportioned and the lack of dial text and a date window enhances its appeal . It has all the Rolex DNA you would expect, but its subtle and comes without the shoutiness of a modern diver. This Oyster Perpetual looks timeless and just oozes class, imho.

@@andrewnamel9850 Well I dont know about that. My everyday wearer is the OP36 and I have a 116500LN for special occasions. The OP is the perfect under the radar non-showoff rolex. I sure as hell has a lot more off the bat respect for a guy wearing an OP or Expl than anyone with a submariner 😐

    • @pasquale78

@@andrewnamel9850 Let's be honest here. If you can afford an OP, eventually you could buy a Sub if you save up. Some people actually don't care about the Sub, believe it or not. I like the Sub, but everyone has one. Therefore I would rather take an Explorer 39mm, which is not that much more expensive than an OP.

Always saying no to going out drinking, or eating out for lunch, always boring economical meals. Frustration with knowledge and tasks. Walking by the AD in the evenings and seeing the 36mm White Grape OP sitting in the display-case...

Got really lucky and walked into a Rolex boutique to browse the day after they received a black dial 39mm OP like the one featured. Snapped it up in an instant. The sunburst on the dial when the light hits it right is absolutely stunning, especially for a black-dialed watch. It also has the benefit of only drawing the attention of those who appreciate the watches themselves, not a flashy piece of branding.

Submariners are incredible watches; they're bold, confident, strong tool watches and they are obviously extremely popular. A Submariner has become the poster-boy epitome of the Rolex brand; it's the type of Rolex that shouts, "I'M A ROLEX". A Submariner is therefore more likely to attract the type of buyer who must insist that everyone knows they're wearing a Rolex. It's a statement piece. It's the Rolex that you wear to tell others that you're in the Rolex club. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. For some people, that's part of the appeal of owning a Rolex. A Submariner can give you a feeling of pride, confidence, self-worth and importance.
Cost-wise, I think the current retail price of £6,500 just about remains in the realm of affordability for the average consumer. But, I would not pay the current inflated pre-owned prices for one. I had a look earlier online and at around £10k upwards for a 2 year old steel ceramic, and I think they're too expensive. It's not a matter of "not being able to afford it" as some may suggest, but as consumers we must remain conscious of a things worth.
The Oyster Perpetual is another incredible watch, but quite the opposite of a Submariner in the fact that it's understated and more likely appeal to watch aficionados. You could grab an OP, new or pre-owned, for around half the price of what you'd be expected to pay for a pre-owned Submariner, which makes the OP a very attractive prospect to a potential buyer. It's not a watch for everyone though. It truly is the definition of an understated watch, which is not to everyones taste. But if like me, you'd prefer a solid, well made, timeless watch that will go unnoticed to most people, then the OP 39 is a perfect example.
If both watches were handed to me in a Rolex showroom and I had to choose between the Submariner and a 39mm Oyster Perpetual, I would most certainly hand them both back and ask to see the Explorer 1. My point being that both the Sub and OP are excellent watches and there's no right or wrong answer to watch buying. You should always go for the watch you find yourself always coming back to after browsing a thousand watch reviews online, because you can only use a certain amount of logic when buying a watch but ultimately, irrespective of everyone else's opinion, you must follow your heart.

The ones who dream of the Submariner never had it so hard: the BMW 3 series prices have shot up, Armani had raised its prices, and diamonds for their ear-pieces now cost 50% more than 10 years ago. Its a tough life for Submariner-man.

  • @angelos6817
    @angelos6817 4 роки тому +12

Forget the Submariner and do what I did. Buy a Rolex OP 36mm and the Tudor BB58. Here you have two wonderful watches for less than the price of a Sub. This way you can forget the bubble and move on. I'm very satisfied with my purchases. These two watches compliment each other perfectly! Best of all I'm still left with some change that would of gone into that Submariner. Now I'll add a little more on top and buy a watch I can get right now with no waiting list. That watch is the Omega Speedmaster Professional, I can buy it now at a discount and for my money I'm getting a watch that was used on the moon where no Rolex as ever been.

I sometimes wish Rolex had won that tender because I think they would have respected the history and integrity of the watch. It frustrates me how much Omega has tarnished both the watch and the achievement through a ridiculous number of limited editions. It's profit over brand integrity and history

I have had the opportunity to own a few Rolex sportswatches in the past 8 years but I should say this watch has given me the most satisfaction whenever I wear it. I’ve owned the white OP 39 for 3 months now and it has been on my wrist majority of the week. Maybe it has to do with the simplicity of the dial or how comfortable it is on my 6.5 in wrist. Or maybe it has something to do with knowing that I did not pay an arm and a leg to have a luxury timepiece. Either way, this watch for me presents the best value Rolex in the market right now.

It is comfortable, reliable and I have no regrets whatsoever.

at 0:43 is the coronet on the rehaut slightly misaligned (to the right) with the 12 o'clock marker? I had this experience and RSC says "by chance" it is not aligned. Does it mean that it is (1) suppose to align but Rolex deem within tolerance, or (2) it is not suppose to align? Couldn't get a straight answer from RSC and some online forum. Too pedantic over minute details? Perhaps, but it's a brand that equates to precision or perfection?

My only issue with these - and it actually put me off buying a black dial 39 - is that the text that reads "OYSTER PERPETUAL" is off centre, to the right. This fault is only on the black and white dial versions of the 39 (and is not present on the computer-generated renders used on the Rolex website). I couldn't live with it. I ended up buying a 36 as it was a better fit for me anyway (and I prefer the steel dial colour).

I purchased the black dial 36 (I love watches, but have the wrists of a 12-year-old bulimic...FTR, I am neither 12 nor bulimic...) this year to replace a 1987 Date Just that got destroyed in a motorcycle accident... And one thing that I instantly noticed that our unnamed hero referenced in this review is that, you slip it on and it is so incredibly well balanced and form-fitting, you forget you have it on.
I love the simplicity of it, and while the Sub is a design classic, given my aforementioned diminutive wrists, feels like I've got a bowling ball strapped to my wrist.

Do you know what? I had to participate in a cross industry video conference event today - and for the first time since lockdown started - I reached into the wardrobe and put on a proper work shirt. As I sat down and adjusted my laptop camera, I realised, though, that I still had my "weekend" watch on (an Omega Seamaster on a rubber strap). It's a great watch but didn't quite fit the image I was looking to project. I reached into the winder box and took out a "work" watch - my Oyster Perpetual. Now this watch hasn't been worn for more than 2 months, so I tapped my phone to get a digital time against which to adjust it. And blow me down - there was no need. 11 weeks on a winder and the OP was still bang on - no adjustment needed. I bought this watch as I like Rolex and what it stand (stood) for - but I wasn't going to pay silly grey market prices for a watch that I could match from another brand without getting ripped off. So a speedy pro - not a Daytona. A Seamaster rather than a subby and a Black Bay GMT instead of a GMT Master. I was patient and found my Oyster Perpetual in a store - and paid retail price. So as you can see; I don't have a thing against Rolex - in fact I'm proper in love with mine for all the reasons in the video. Well said Watchfinder.
