    Doing a walnut table and it has pretty open grains. Was grain filler used on this table or is just Odies (1 or 2 coats) enough to not be concerned about moisture in the grains?
    P.S. love this stuff. Use it on lots of tools handles and pens. Thanks!

      Grain filler was not used on this table, just Odie’s! Odie’s is a fantastic wood stabilizer helping to minimize moisture gain and loss keeping wood movement to a minimum.

    I've just started researching different finishes for a writing desk that my granddaughter wanted me to build for her. I still had a few boards left from several black Walnut trees that I cut down on her great grandfathers farm back in 1974. I've always used Danish oil on the pieces I've built with walnut in the past, but since this will be a desktop that she'll be working from, I wanted something a bit more durable. I do have a couple of questions for you about your products. Is it OK just to use the Odies oil, or would you suggest using super penetrating oil first? Also would you suggest putting a layer of wood butter or Odie's Wax as a final coat? Thanks in advance!

      Hey!
      Yes it is definitely ok to just use Odie’s Oil, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with Odie’s Oil and or Super Duper Oil if you are new to our finishes before advancing to the other products. Our Super Duper Oil is more similar to a danish oil by being a thinner finish and provides a bit more warmth than Odie’s Oil. Either of these finishes will provide a very durable and lasting finish all on their own or used in conjunction with each other.

    So for the edge you use the super penetrating oil. That means for endgrain cutting board that is what you should use.

    • @Odiesoil
      @Odiesoil  10 місяців тому +2

      For a first time use we do recommend to start with super duper oil. For cutting boards apply at least 2 coats.

    About to use Odie's on the first real piece of furniture I've built!
    For the sanding, I was planning to go all the way to 600 grit with my random orbit sander. Is there any reason I should hand sand instead of using the tool?

    • @Odiesoil
      @Odiesoil  11 місяців тому +1

      Preferably use the orbital sander, make sure you don't skip any grit and check for potential imperfections before you apply the oil. We recommend for a first time user to apply the product by hand with a non-woven pad instead of using a polisher.

    Do you have to do anything to the live edge or bark after applying the super oil? It was rubbed from the cast iron but how do you get it out of bark?

    • @Odiesoil
      @Odiesoil  11 місяців тому +1

      We removed on bark with the same cotton terry towel by dabbing slowly.

    Should you now add wood butter to this slab?

      For this walnut slab we applied one coat of super duper oil, and followed next day with a coat of the regular Odie's Oil

    Hi, did you sand the wood with a 600 writ and then applied the odies oil with a microfiber?

    • @Odiesoil
      @Odiesoil  Рік тому

      It was sanded to 600 grit and the oil was applied with a non woven pad rated 800. This is our micro fine grey non woven pad.
