@@anotheronethankyou Not being half naked and having a cheerful tune does not make it "cute" lol. So fucking tired of international fans always talking about anything else than "girl crush" as shitty cute concept. Otherwise this is not even a big change musically from Yes or Yes, they just added more bass. So people that go on and on about how much they love this song but hated their "cute shit" before is fucking dumb since the music itself has hardly changed.
Yes or Yes was definitely Twice's first step towards shifting their sound and image.
Fancy feels like the next logical step after that. As the members mature more and more, so too must their concepts!
Yeah I think it was a good idea to slowly shift their image every comeback so the public receives it better than going from TT to Fancy
I honestly thought their first “huge” change was DTNA since you can see how everything is super bright except for their final outfits and then it fades into a “darker” side somehow...

I feel like it's mostly down to the outfits, the way the shot the MV, facial expressions and a bit more bass sound that changed. The song is actually really close to their others, especially Yes or Yes. The rap part is basically the exact same beat in those two songs. they have a bit more vocal processing in this song but generally sing in the same area, but the bass make it seem like it's deeper. The only real change I could find musically is the bass and that they let Momo use her raspy voice, people are overstating the difference like crazy.
U can still tell its a Twice song BC of the sound but I really like the MV as well as the entire album. It just sounds really retroish?

It's the team work between nayeon and Jihyo in the chorus. It's the team work between Dahyun and Chaeyoung with the raps. It's the dance work between Mina, Momo and Sana. I love duos and I like teamwork, and twice has the strongest synergy between members. It's all just wonderful. 😢😂

The reason I -like- *L O V E* Twice is that they are a group but somehow they manage to have different identities and strenghts that play dynamically on the stage.
Like we have the visuals, tones, raps, and dances taken care of by each of the members and their mv's jump on it making sure to show their individual characteristics. (Cheer up and TT are great examples imo)
A true Unity within Diversity group.
What about Jeongyeon and Tzuyu?

I was actually a little sad that they were changing their concept because I LOVE their cute concepts but I actually love this song so much. The style really fits them and it still has that signature Twice sound. The producers of Likey and TT produced this song so I already knew this was gonna be amazing and they definitely did not disappoint
sameee like at first it took me a couple of listens to get into fancy but now i really loe enjoy it. Ngl yes or yes , dtna and what is love is still way up there but fancy didn't disappoint.

Well Twice themselves say they want to try a more mature/girl crush concept, so they’re bound to fully change concepts someday. Jihyo even said they talked to the company about changing to the fancy concept.
Likey was totally the HIGHEST *B O P* for me when it was released and I felt the same if not greater sense of pride and joy on their Fancy comeback.

Idk how to really describe it, but those first few phrases in the chorus sound super like, sentimental? Gives a very similar vibe as eung eung and im so sick, also made me think of the love bomb chorus a bit

I find it so strange how people are actually saying that Twice are copying Itzy. Twice comebacks are planned extremely far out in advance, plus Twice has been spoiling the Fancy comeback (the hand sign 🤘) since YoY era, before you all knew that Dalla Dalla existed. They are in the same company and this seems like a new Jype feel. Groups in YG literally have the same music and no one ever accuses them of copying.
People want Twice to fail and lose face so bad but that'll never happen. No one does it like Twice, they are their own concept.

Fancy is the comeback I hoped for. It’s a subtle evolution in maturity, and it just works for them. The wizards at JYP somehow combined their cuteness with a more mature vibe.
Musically, you can still tell it’s TWICE, but there is a different energy.. They still have that unmistakeable sound though! Typical cute Twice elements like the trademark “Twice!” shout, and the specific vocal roles each member has.. all wrapped up in a more EDM inspired track. That’s the greatest triumph of this imo.
MV is sharper as you say, and has a distinct cinematography update.. but still follows the format of having separate vignettes for each member, and then sharing a stage together for the chorus. Different, yet recognizable as TWICE.
And finally.. did you see how fit and healthy they all looked? The shots of them in the black wardrobe are especially impressive. Look at Nayeon’s arms for example!! All of the members just look incredible; not only to match the aesthetic of the video but also in terms of physical health. They look like they’ve all gone to the gym and pumped iron so they could kick our asses LOL. During their latest tour, fans were worried about their health, and I think this was a good response. A literal comeback in music, aesthetic, and in health and well-being.
Everything is coming together in independently subtle ways to contribute to an overall change, and that’s why it doesn’t feel wrong. It just FITS. They didn’t go too far in each category.. but it all adds up! And as per usual with TWICE comebacks, I can’t stop listening to it. 🎶
about their health, i completely agree. one thing i rly like about jyp is the girls all tend to look healthy and well-fed.

Fun fact: This song is in C minor.
Why is that interesting? Well... In the early 2000's, in the U.S. hard rock and metal scene, guitarists were experimenting with tuning down their guitars to a lower set of notes on their strings...they were going for a darker or 'heavier' sound(the standard tuning for guitar starts at E, so going backwards, E flat, D, D flat, C...that's 4 semi-tones, or 4 keys on a keyboard moving to the left.) So, with that tuning, most songs that came out on the rock and metal charts in the mid to late 2000's were all in C minor.
And here, we have TWICE, the bubbliest, joyous girls in Kpop, singing a song written in effing C minor...LMFAO
...it's like, ok ladies, we get it, dark concept, mature vibe...(Mina, you look so fine, girl....stop it)

I wasn't really a huge twice fan, but i was curious and saw the teaser and then I watched the mv. I'm still no once, but I have always liked their title tracks but this was the first time I went and listened to one of their albums and I thought it was phenomenal.
Sometimes changing your sound isn't a bad thing. And it's not so different that it'll discourage new or existing fans from listening to them. I feel this was a very good decision on their part, or whoever's it actually was. And I'm excited to know what you think of it, pd..the album I mean

the amount of nostalgia that hits me every time i hear this song-especially at sana's pre hook verse and nayeon's chorus line-it's seriously overwhelming like all of a sudden i'm submerged in this emotion i can't quite put my finger on, from a moment in my life that i can't quite pinpoint. it gives off these thoughts in my mind that the melody is something i've heard before, or felt before through my childhood but at the same time i know that i've never quite heard a melody like this. it's just so BEAUTIFUL ahhhh idk if i can even put it in words. it has such a party tune to it, especially in the post hook and maybe that's what it is? like bringing me back to those awkward 6th grade dances lol. the emotional appeal in their voices is real tho, reminds me of how fromis_9 sang their hearts out with love bomb. i've heard nostalgic melodies before but twice are the first group to make me feel THIS trippy in my head with this new song. it's so different and so gorgeous, they did so well and i'm really proud and thankful to have this new bop in my life now
FANCY is an amazing comeback. I love this darker pop sound from them. TWICE is my favorite group that, a year ago, ushered me into Kpop. "We could always use a little bit more MOMO!" I hear you, PD. This album is fantastic, too.

I agree with you that this is a start of a new era which is possibly and most likely a girl crush type of concept, the song (in my interpretation?) is about having a crush on someone obviously and Jeongyeon sung about it being dangerous and it pricks, being like a rose and at the end she pricks her finger on the rose which I think is a type of teaser for their next comeback where they possibly deal with the aftermath of a crush and/or relationship
