Play who you want. U will struggle with tekken in the beginning no matter who you play. Tekken is played different then any other fighting game so it will take time. Best advice pick a char who will allow u to stick to the game and have fun. Dont worry about if there good and dont look long term. In the beginning just have fun yall! Wish all u guys good luck and kick some butt

@@xrinnegan There's really not much high tiers that are easy nowadays. People say Leroy is easy tho but I can't confirm since I haven't bought him. Jack and Dragunov used to be top tier but they are mid nowadays. Mishimas are your best bet for high tiers that are not too hard (electrics are the easiest hard execution moves and that is the only hard move that Mishimas have imo)

Thanks for the update! I've randomly been watching a ton of Tekken 7 tourney vids and am thinking of picking up the game. Last game I played was Tekken Tag and 3 lol. So it's been a while. I'm a beginner I started of with Josie and got the hang of her almost immediately. She's pretty fun to.

Hey bro I got out of pools two evo's in a row with chloe and have been playing fighting games for 20 years. This is the most accurate video to explain who not to begin with. To this day i'm not comfortable with kazuya at higher ranks or heihachi. Even JDCR says he only plays heihachi if he is feeling excellent that day due to execution lol. great vid
I'm with you with Leroy, let me add Lily on beginner friendly as I main her. With her you got a nice beginner combo with high damage, easy move list/whiff punish, can just spam ff+4/hop kick from ground up and easily adjust step by step. A pro tip, don't listen to others that if you want to learn a certain character watch the best in the world who's using it as it varies to who your opponent is, you need to practice if you want be better on each character.
I played every Tekken since 3, as a casual, countless hours in Tekken 4, 5 and 6 playing with every character but especially Eddy. Now, in 2021, I bought Tekken 7 to play it "right" and started with Eddy, let's see what happens
Lars is by far the easiest and basic character to play and learn
He is the easy version of Jin

I started with Chloe when I first play Tekken, she's fun and hurt a lot. After some time, I learn Katarina. She has more execution, but well, still easy. And then for some reason I'm maining Lei right now. 😂
Bro lei is hilarious but i don't understand him at all lol. Remember doing play dead in tekken 4 when i was a kid but even now he is confusing
@@Voldemorts.Nipple his move's still the same from t4/t5 with a bit more troll gimmick (12 stances including 4 sexy playdead, each stances has at least 1 launcher and 1 poke/knockdown). Trust me you'll smile a lot when using Lei.

I used to play tekken 4 as a kid but wasn't really a combo person, just one or 2 tricks and the rest was kinda button mashing but with lei i remember learning playdead and some other tricks but he's tougher than i remember him to be
Im started with chloe then i main eliza and now i am a dragunov player
I picked Armor King and i like him.But he feels hard for me to be consistent with,requires me to have good movement and whif punish.But the execution doesnt let me grasp fundamentals.
So i came here to find a character that will let me turn my brain off in terms of execution and focus on fundamentals and learning what Tekken is all about

Armor King has the drip, I main him unapologetically and the process has been slow, but I'm getting there. I just added Lars, also work in progress.
AK is so awkward to play imo
Paul Phoenix is pretty easy to pick up. His core moves are very manageable. I don't think you have to know all the moves for your character in general. Many moves are just adding some superficial nuance but don't really affect the game plan.
Disagree really, back sway characters are difficult for beginners to truly learn the movement to actually be good at the game for beginners and the reliant on big power moves and flow charts ultimately detrimental for a new player if you actually are serious about getting into the game.

I'm still struggling here... See I started with Steve as an enthusiast, then went Miguel and ran into range issues. Fahkumram came out, and I went full enthusiast with him -- which is, let me tell you, very dangerous. Winning feels better, losing feels like you someone beat you up in real life. So much that I got ranked anxiety after getting mid-crush launched by Alisa many rounds in a row. I might still use him with a change of perspective if I find out how he compares to Shaheen.
I am currently debating between picking up Shaheen or ASUKA...
I don't know if Asuka's parry will be unproductive in the long run. And I don't know if Fahkumram can do as good as Shaheen, but I hope it's not too good either, cause I hate taking shortcuts. I heard he's a well rounded character with great basic tools, but also that his hurtbox model is pretty weird... which could mean anything.

I think you should try Asuka, she's the easiest to win with out of the three you mentioned. But you should just try all three of them out and take your time and really find your rhythm. Also, dont worry about ranked. If you truly want to get more confidence in your gameplay, then start playing nothing but quick matches and player matches. There you can play without the anxiety of losing a rank and you can use that time work on your fundamentals and try these characters out safely. Miguel is a great character though.. so i dont suggest dropping him at all. I used to main him.
Turns out Josie suited me the best in the end. Most intuitive character of them all.
Miguel is a pretty solid character and is fun to fight imo
Steve is hard but fun to use
Asuka is decent. Her parry covers a lot of options so you don't have to worry about guessing as much, but try not to rely on it too much, it is counter-able
Fahk is still early to tell with where he'll be in the meta

Thank you for this video, KINGPHANTOM! I like the mindset you gave of needing to master fundamentals to get the most out of a character. Also, that you will only get so far with certain characters early, without taking the time to learn those fundamentals. Helpful video!
Jin Kazuya Heihachi moves and combos are simple only if you can execute them properly, thats where it gets difficult.
Imo if you played street fighter or any 2d fighter, tekken's movements and frames will be A LOT easier to read. I'd say jin is very very beginner friendly IF the user knows how to korean backdash, play it safe, patience, and wavedashes to close the gap. Yes, very technical and execution specific. BUT, jin's combo kit is so damn good, i swear back 2+1, 1+2+3, back 1 wavedash cancel, and the good'ole hop kicks never let me down lmao

After playing Tekken and Soul Calibur all other fighting games feel simple. Ive been playing fighters since super nes street fighter 2. I played in arcades. Played the first Tekken, MK, King of Fighters, Darkstalkers.. Point being: Tekken is the king of fighting games. Especially online. The coding is so good now. If someone has a good connection its like they are in my living room playing. Soul Calibur is pretty good. Sf5 sux balls online as most other fighting games do.

Well, I think you should play whoever you wanna play as. Because once you like the character you play, win or lose, no matter how hard it is, you'll put your time to learn them. I personally main Bryan, and for God's sake, almost all of his moves need executions, his combos, especially his legendary Taunt Jet Uppercut, it's hard AF. But I like to play as Bryan, so even I keep losing, I still keep learning about his Key Moves, how and when to do it.

Play Lei , he is super fun! Try to play him with no stances, just staple combos, and the basic moves jab, df1, d4, etc, you will figure it out. He has everything that you need, and much more. So you Will be always learning new things, slowly, and forever. If you want more moves, try using one more stance at the time until you master all 15. Differently from Nina, Hwoarang, King, Feng, Jin, etc Lei has many moves but he doesn't ultimately need all of them. His game plan outside the stances is simple: move a lot and let your opponent whiff attacks. If you want to pressure a bit just use df1, db4,4 jabs, d4 and razor rush. Thats all, if you think you're stuck in a certain level, just learn one more stance and its utility. More offence - tiger, raw 50/50 - panther, etc. Just search for it ,it will be fun. Lei is the most fun character IMO
I started playing seriously about 8 months ago and went with Leo. She has a tool for every situation, really strong generics, good frame data and fairly low execution but no real gimmicks or easy strats. Green ranks were rough and I had to really focus on defence and the basics of the game. But it was worth it, now I'm at an intermediate level, I'm properly prepared to keep advancing.

You're right about Kazumi. I started out with her because of your first video and had a fairly hard time in the Green Ranks up to the Yellow Ranks. She really flows easily in my hands, but I'm gonna hit the lab to learn some more stuff with her before I proceed with Ranked Matches.
Yeah i remember when i used to main Kazumi when i first started the game and i HATED my life in green ranks lmao i switched characters like three times and it took me forever to get out of those ranks

I just got this game today, I haven’t played through all the characters yet nor have done any of the story battles with any of the characters but Eddy is not a new character. Eddy Gordo has been around since Tekken 3 (I vaguely remember playing Tekken 3) and his moves are very similar to Christie (She was in Tekken 4-6). So far, I really like playing all the Mishimas including Kazumi, Eddy, Marshall Law, Asuka Kazama, and Lucky Chloe. I’ve been playing the Tekken series since Tekken 4
Jin is NOT beginner friendly. But I love him.

@@BlackTalon1996 All the Mishimas as just too execution heavy. I think Jin is easier than Devil Jin, Kazuya, and Heihachi when focusing only on neutral pokes but his Mishima tools are harder to string together. There's a recent win ratio of 51 characters and Jin is 2nd to last after Yoshi. Kazuya was in the top 10 least most winning characters. It's considered one of them high effort high reward far into the future situation. I'm going to stick with it

A lot of people say stay away from execution heavy characters if you're new.
I would say stay away from execution heavy characters if you're just playing casual and don't really plan to try and improve over time, but If you're new and pick up Kaz or Akuma , you actually have a lot to work with whenever it comes time to try and improve.
Akuma was my first character and I learned so much more by levelling my game up with him than I would have by learning with Paul, Katarina etc.
Akuma is unique and in my opinion truly easier than mishimas, as he can allow you to bypass fundamentals. Nobody says this but when you play akuma it is just constant option select, if you think they're going high you hit d2 or d3, going low you can jump, plus frame pressure (hunting hawk for example) can be DP'd through. He's easy in that sense.
Currently learning heihachi to pick up those fundamentals I missed, but the execution you pick up from akuma makes OTFG and EWGF as easy as doing a DF1.

Yeah Law is a good starter character. He's easy enough to pick up and also has some technical tactics you can look forward to mastering down the road.

As someone who has played a few characters as main as a total newcomer; starting with lilit transitioning to kazumi and finally to my true main feng... I think tekken is something else to play. The mishimas, specially kazuya and kazumi are characters that require of the player to know the matchups where as feng you can get away with lots of bullshit no one expects. I play very casualy and I think even tho I've had a great experience with feng, the mishimas are the best way to learn the game per se. They force you to understand fundemantals like no other characters. Even tho' many people might think that kazumi is a boring character, its thanks to my experience playing her at low ranks that I understood what tekken is about; and what made me find enjoyment in playing feng in the end. If you dont understand the fundementals you can't understand what to abuse with characters that are really cheesy anyway. So as a starting character I would recomend Kazumi heavily, as well as kazuya: characters with reduced move-lists that make you make the most out of them, and understend one very simple play style so you can move away from it after some time and abuse the specific tools other characters have. Tekken is a heavy time investement to learn, but even playing casually after you put in the hours to understand the game pays out heavily with lots of satisfaction. Dont get discouraged and keep playing and having fun! Thats what its all about in the end.

If you are playing mishimas or Jin or Bryan you are making playing tekken exponentially difficult for you at the cost of looking cool as a beginner or intermediate player.All the players mostly start with these characters then they get their ass kicked left,right and centre by characters like law,king and Katarina and right now Leroy and fakhumram then they realise that the players who are kicking their ass are also not much better at tekken fundamentals then them and they also start playing characters like law,dragunov,king,Leroy and fakhumram and to an extent Nina and that is the reason why you see these characters so much when ever you play online.

Tekken is easily the hardest, except that king of fighters and guilty gear a could be harder since they have a much smaller fan base.

I have a different opinion for the mishimas in general. Yes execution is an important factor that will get you stuck in intermediate ranks, but what really makes certain mishimas difficult, expecially kazuya, is that if you don't know much about the character you're against, ur screwed. Heihachi, jin, and deviljin can at least go more on the offensive, but kazuya really can't. His setups are really weak, his 50/50 is really strong but it only shines on oki.

For me, the hardest one to play and beat out of all the Mishimas is Heihachi. I’ve been a Tekken player since Tekken 4.

All kidding aside, I appreciate this very much. I just started and have been using Bob, but I want to start using Kazuya or Devil Jin to force myself to learn better fundamentals.
Armour King, King, Steve, and Dragunov also interest me just in general, along with Akuma, Geese, and Fahk-em-raw dlc characters. Leeroy also seems cool, but I'm avoiding him since everyone complains about him so much.
Is king hard to learn. I'll be real I'm trying to learn to play fighting games due to some friends and I barely know anything and been slowly learning. I'm guessing king is not a good start?

Both are intermediate level characters as far as I know. Different definition as to why though.
I agree with most of what you said & in terms of if you just wanna jump into the game as a casual. Spot on. Now what about if you want to pick that will teach you fundamentals & defense that a lot of these other characters won't teach you? That's where the Mishimas come into play & I think if anyone is truly serious then they should pick these characters. Especially some players hate string heavy characters like I do. I prefer execution with fundamentals.

I started with hwoarang, and well he's pretty easy, learned him in just 3 or 4 days, the mixups, combos, *whole movelist* and all
The tip here is Pick the beginner character you want and you will enjoy, forcing yourself to use someone you dont want to will pause you from learning without fun

_If you want to use lee chaolan as your beginner character then go on, if thats what makes you enjoy the game, that will bring you excitement into learning him_
i'm like 100% sure you didn't learned hwoarang in just 3-4 days from scratch to actually be good and play him like he should be played in even mid level Tekken. he is defintly not beginner friendly compared to many others

Virginbreaker Compared to other games, tekken is extremely balanced. Lars is considered to be one of the worst characters but many people still win with him at high ranks. Tiers don’t matter at all if you are just playing casually. Just play whoever you want because it really does not matter.
Ravens always been my main, progress came slow but I don't regret it. I'll probably pick up Nina or Jin next.

Been Noctis main for 2 weeks and I can assure you he is the EASIEST character to play. Played other characters like Katarina but for me and other articles also agree that Noctis is the literal BEGINNER FRIENDLY CHARACTER. Very easy combos, limited movesets, and fun might I say. Surprised you didn't quite went in depth with how easy he is. Note for you beginners, he is very strong in low ranks but I feel he suffers in high ranks most especially to veteran players as KINGPHANTOM said he is very unsafe because his execution and movesets are punishable. Nevertheless, want to play a beginner friendly character then Noctis Lucis Caelum is for you
What do you mean by ''High ranks''?. Noctis is strong in low ranks and high ranks. All depends about your strategy. That's all.

I just noted to beginners that most of his movesets are punishable and that they should be more careful in high ranks most especially your dealing with opponents who have a strong grasp to the character their using or knows how to counter your pick. I suffered that way with noctis and changed my play style with him. Now I tend to be more careful and passive aggresive when I am using noct compared to how I used him before being all out and aggresive

I was thinking of either starting with king, devil jin or kazuya which do you think would be more beginner friendly (ps I do have experience with fighter games not Tekken tho but since we have a lot of time on our hands I can work on mastering a character)

Lili is really easy, but has execution which makes you better. She's better than the other basic female characters like xiaoyu and chloe. Im a lili and shaheen main so you can have my word for lili.
Steve is HAAAARD bro
Leo is not a beginner character he is intermediate. He has two stances, and you can transition into them from a variety of moves. His execution is not difficult, but to win with him your fundamentals need to be very good as he has many hard hitting but risky moves. His crouch dash is important for pressure too and that tends to be a little difficult for newcomers. But if you're willing to put the effort, leo is worth it. (Also many people do not know the matchup so you can get away with many things)
I do not have anything to say about armor king as i havent tried him out yet but steve, though it may seem like only using two buttons (his punches) his execution is a little difficult for a beginner. So I suggest putting off learning steve until you know around two characters. Also trying out feng helps you in using different stances during a round which will help you in trying out leo(if you want to learn him)

If anyone Wishes To play Armor King The difference between king and Armor King is Massive. Armor King is a jack of all trades. Leroy Smith Is Definitely easy Just be prepared for messages. Who I will definitely tell you not to touch Steve,Nina,Lei, Lee, And the Mishimas. Imo Tekken is not a easy fighting game To get into I played tekken since 6 so am not where close to a veteran but Since I grew up with soul caliber and my extremely fast adaptations and will to always improve I managed to go into 7 playing Armor King and Doing pretty well and Picked up Fakuram Am having a blast.And if you pick up the characters I said not to touch God blast your fingers 😭

im coming from mortal kombat 10 and 11. now tekken 7 is VERY different to me after you get past the “fighting game fundamentals.” i REALLY want to play Eddy simply because he is so different. but i do not like playing weak characters, because im a VERY competitive person. so does anyone think that learning Eddy would be fine for me?
I don’t lars is easier than alisa, his max damage combos are harder and he requires good defense because his offense is risky

I was a pro with hwoarang but then my friend started using kazuya and noctis i gave up on hwoarang and now i want to learn a new character
man.. i recommended kazuya to my brother hes beginner like no built up fundamental or doesnt know any fighter and hes struggling in 1-4 dan rank i really thought Kazuya as a beginner friendly but he really needs a little bit more execution and needs to utilize Kazuya's moves and it my case its just he needs fundamentals
THANK YOU, for teaching these law haters that he isn't this beginner friendly, scrubby character people say he is, it works in low ranks, but in high ranks that becomes really risky, you need good execution, I admit he's not the most unique character in the game, not even close, but people hate on this character without any real knowledge, some people do give the character a bad reputation in low ranks so it's understandable why he's played less and why people would assume that, some low ranks law players notice they hit a road block and assume law was a beginner friendly character and don't take time to learn his execution and switch to easier characters like the ones mentioned here: Claudio, Katarina etc. But regardless atleast you proved that point.

I would argue kazuya because of how simple he is. The thing about kazuya is that he's hard to master
Kazuya has easier wave dash than other mishima
And he doesn't have complicated commands
That's what makes him easy character
I haven't played Tekken 7 and don't know how much has changed since Tekken 6, but since Kazuya allways was my main from Tekken 1 onwards and allways has been, I would concider him one of the most beginner friendly characters along side Bryan, Paul and Bob.
Characters I wouldn't recommend for beginners are Yoshimitsu, Eddy, Christie, Dragunov, Jack (every Version), Lars, Zafina and Xiaohyu.

Lucky Chloe has the advantage of unpredictability from her setups. I have struggled against a lot of Lucky Chloes online
Lili, Negan, Asuka, Katarina, Noctis
And I main two of these characters
Asuka is perfect for cheese
For me its katarina and claudio. They are beginer friendly at first then they became advance with mote expiriance. Katarina is all or nothing, high risk high reward character whith most of her attack because she is classified as a glass cannon. Good offence but defense is mediocere. Claudio have good attacks but players must remeber that all attack must hit to charge starburst, and starburst gave players some attacks that require some set ups but only be used once and starburst need to be charge again.

Absolutely correct No way in hell are the mishimas beginner friendly chatacters they not only require execution they demand absolute mastery of the actually mechanics of the game which a new player is not going to achieve for a kong ass time.. I agree with the kateeina take shes easy and powerful alloeing the player to focus on winning while getting experience with the fundamentals of the game.

He is not over the top or anything and he has a reason for being the way he is. It's so nice to see something different that's just simpel but effectiv. And luckily he is also fun to play :]
