I just got the Yamaha. There is so much dynamic capability and I have other high end equipment, so the pure direct feature by itself when I need to go more reference level was a big factor. In addition there's a UA-cam channel where these two brothers tested the actual wattage running through and Yamaha is conservative w it's 100 watt RMS estimate and it came out at 119 Watts over 7.2 channels! I'm really impressed at this entry level receiver and it's music cast features are really easy to use. I only wish it had UA-cam music but the Bluetooth is excellent, so I'm able to play from my phone directly as well. There's just so much flexibility! I'm sure the Onkyo is good too but I know that their customer support has had issues and comparatively, Yamaha's product lines in general tend to pass down Superior technology and if you look at their higher-end receivers/amps, I can see where they save some money but made some really excellent choices in the overall build quality at this price point. Let's just say, I'm not going to be returning this to grab the Onkyo. I'm more than happy with the Yamaha but I'm sure like this guy said you can't really go wrong with either but I'm extremely happy with my purchase of the Yamaha. The TSR 700 is identical to the V6A. It's a Costco exclusive selling for $400 versus the retail of $600 for the V6A and I actually tried to buy it before but it's been sold out and I was at Costco yesterday and I had to grab one! Whatever you decide best of luck to you!

I purchased this Onkyo for my dad for Christmas last year and it continues to impress me. I am a bit partial to the brand as I sold AV equipment 20 or so yrs ago and found that Onkyo was always outperforming their competitors at their price points on sound and build quality.
I’ve had my TX-SR602 as my primary for….. let’s just say it can drink legally in the US lol. She is still going strong and is used daily. No issues. So much power and clarity after all these years powering my JBL Northridge series towers and sounds incredible!!
I couldn’t recommend the Onkyo brand enough. Now, since I’m a renter and respect my neighbors I haven’t upgraded to Atmos setup. When I do I’ll drop some coin and will most likely upgrade to a Denon. I’m of the opinion that if I’m staying below a grand, Onkyo it is. While their high end AVR’s are incredible and beefy, Denon reigns supreme on that level and I anticipate putting some serious $$ down and demolishing whatever house I purchase via epic, orgasmic awesomeness that is sure to piss the entire neighborhood off. Those are my thoughts. Cheers 😊

Thanks for the review. Like others, I'm surprised you chose the TSR-700/RX-V6A over the Onkyo TX-NR595 but perhaps I'm bias because I own the TSR-700. My big concern about Onkyo is that over the past few years Onkyo finances and retail chain sales haven't been healthy. For example in 2019 Onkyo struck a deal with Sound United to sell it's Onkyo and Pioneer brands but that deal fell apart. In the summer of 2020, major US retailers Amazon and Best Buy discontinued sales of Onkyo products. So in the end, I just have more confidence in long-term support of Yamaha products over Onkyo. However, sound is important so if you thought the sound was much better with the Onkyo...so that's understandable why you didn't go with Yamaha. You mentioned the center channel in your sound quality analysis, so I have to ask which receiver sounded better to you in a 2-channel stereo comparison (2.0 or 2.1)?

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  3 роки тому

Thanks for watching! In terms of 2 channel performance, these two receivers were incredibly close (close enough that we chose not to mention it at all). The Onkyo did seem to have more bass right out of the box, but the Yamaha was easily corrected to sound pretty much identical. We also appreciate the words about Onkyo's business issues and agree that this should definitely be part of your shopping/evaluation between different receivers!

I've returned the Yamaha and since the HDMI 2.1 were never going to function as claimed, after 5 months Costco gave me a full refund, so kudos to Costco. @@paulfool8728 I can't honestly say that - what I can say, in my opinion is the depth of bass, or warmth was not there even after playing around with the various DSP settings. And I was bamboozled like everyone else in 2021 ( early, when I purchased ) to have faulty HDMI boards - never again will I buy a product assuring me of it's stated performance and features " with a future firmware update " that never came.
Already bought the RZ50 from Onkyo in October last year - this thing is a BEAST! And all HDMI boards work - just had to adjust in options menu for 8K upscaling.

    Great comparison video.
I’ve seen your dedicated videos on both the receivers.
I bought the Yamaha TSR 700 from Costco, but unfortunately had a terrible experience. The switching of HDMI inputs was a nightmare - sometimes it took up to 5 mins (not seconds... minutes) for the switching - and sometimes it did not switch at all.
I did some research and found that this is an issue with the 2.1 chip made in Taiwan.
Do you know if this is an issue with the onkyo as well?
Or did I just get a bad Yamaha piece from Costco?
The Yamaha has since been returned to Costco.

@@TwoGuyzTech Sorry for the delayed response, but I have a happy update for you.
After I returned the TSR 700 to Costco, I contacted Yamaha support and they recommended that I should have used HDMI inputs #4-7 - as these are specific to HDMI 2.0, and inputs #1-3 are for HDMI 2.1 - this is not published.
So, I bought another unit from Costco, **did not** update the firmware and am using inputs 4-6 for my Roku (4k/60hz), PS4 (1080p/24hz) and xfinity flex (4k/60hz), and the switching glitches are greatly reduced - still glitchy - but not a show stopper - once the connection is stable then it performs great.

Thanks for watching! It all depends on the processing ability of each device. Some TVs are better at upscaling, and some receivers are better at upscaling. The Yamaha just did seem to offer a slightly better upscaled image than the Onkyo, but at the same time our TV also has a really good built-in upscaler, so in the end it's just a matter of testing both and seeing which looks better to you. @@TwoGuyzTech I'll tell you, sort of, how it works in Canada. Maybe it can apply to Europe, as well.Part of it is what they call "the cost of doing business in Canada", which is higher taxes, higher wages, more regulation... a lot of factors. While, there's SOMETHING to that, a lot of the discrepancies we see here come down to ONE thing-different national distributors. If a company has a common North American distributor (Apple and Epson are two that come to mind), the price difference is negligible, often being close to zero, once you do the currency conversion. BUT, if there's a separate Canadian distributor, then you will get taken to the wood shed, and they will contractually block the U.S. distributor from making its products available to ship to Canada from a U.S. retail outlet. Panasonic is one of the worst examples of this. I was looking at buying a Panasonic HT projector a while back, and, after the conversion, it was more than twice the price as the U.S. retailers. I called Panasonic Canada, and found an honest salesperson. I asked her to explain what was going on, and she said, that, basically, for no reason, Panasonic was considered a premium brand in Canada, even though it was more middle-of-the-road in the States, and that they priced it that high because they could get away with it. It's a combination of distributors having absolute control, and not enough retail options here. You can find deals, occasionally (I know of one U.S. online retailer who will ship Sony products at U.S. prices to Canada, for example) or you can drive to the States if you live close enough to a border town, and hope you get a duty-friendly assessment on the way back, but we're far more limited in the options we have than in the States.

I always loved the older Onkyo gear not so much the newer stuff. isn't there a rumor going around that Onkyo is in some financial trouble?

Thanks for these detailed reviews! I decided to buy the Onkyo based on your review because the sound clarity and bass response are my biggest concerns. After using a mid-level Yamaha Dolby Digital/DTS receiver for the last 18+ years and going through 3 different center channel speakers, AR, Polk, and Paradigm, it always seemed like the dialogue wasn’t crisp. While I could independently increase the volume of the center channel, the inability to change the tone really hurt the overall experience. The new Klipsch center channel with aluminum tweeters definitely helped, but not as much as I had hoped. I’m looking forward to setting up the new system!

Thank you very much for watching! The Onkyo is a great choice. The added tone control should definitely help you out with the treble in your center channel. Dialogue was great through the Onkyo :)

Over 18 years, wow, why you bought it, VCR movies? Phono music?
now you have to study codecs, this is the future!
Crips, that's because u used bad sources!

@@lucasrem Nope, sorry, try again troll. The Yamaha was hindered by the lack of tone control on the center channel. Same sources, same speakers, but very different sound quality from the two receivers.

Just looking at the back it seems the Yamaha does not have am/fm capability, I may be in the minority but that's a deal breaker for me. Did I miss it?

Thanks for watching! Thankfully both of them have AM and FM functionality - check the footage at 1:38 - separate antenna hookups for both :) Hope this helps!

Cooler Onkyo.

Thanks for watching! Yep we tend to agree here. It does seem like the lower end receiver segment is moving toward packing as many features as possible into these boxes which might come at the expense of sound quality. They have enough muscle for less efficient speakers but for sure in our theater we prefer separate amps and processor that just focuses on reproducing the source signal as cleanly as possible. We appreciate the kind words :)

Thank you for this Great video, I must disagree about final decision about sound department. In my case before buying the TSR-700 I looked for two key factors, PS5 2.1 HDMI 4K/120, 8K/60 compatibility and second Hi-Res/Audio where I see a clear winner since Yamaha is using a Texas Instruments DACs includes the 384 kHz / 32-bit BB PCM5102A, a state-of-the-art DAC designed for Hi Res more expensive AV systems. Finally, I can shared my own experience with a former RX-V571 that was retired after 12 years in service without a flaw on any department and I was amazed this system came with a DAC Burr Brown 24-bit/192kHz on early 2010´s that uses the same bit same rate that you can find on a recent Marantz NR1711. In conclusion, I consider Yamaha´s background on music industry back up the high fidelity sound on Yamahas AV compared to Onkyo´s that they are more focus on movies experience. I have set my Yamaha TSR-700 with 7.1 KEF speakers system and music really comes back to life. Cheers!

Do these systems require an internet connection to work, or do they automatically transmit wirelessly? I'd rather not have things hooked up to the internet that I don't need to have.

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  3 роки тому +1

Thanks for watching! Nope these do not require an internet connection to work. If you want to use them to stream music from an online service, we would recommend simply connecting a streaming box over HDMI or RCA if you have that option.

Sanzui sounds is the best if comparison is the name of the game. I was sleeping upper stair when i woke listening to a strange voice that i thought my mother had a guest speaking to her. Its a fine speech and it can be confused as a live speaker on stage. So i stare down stair and found no one except my mother listening to her sanzui.

Despite the updated features of the newer entry level receivers now...I'd still rather stick to my older mid/high end Integra DTR 8.8 receiver (around $2,400 new)...I don't own anything above 1080p resolution, so none of those features really matter to me.
