Wouldn't the LP sized laser discs be great size for 4k-8k-12k films. I'm beginning to hate the CD sized 4k discs that stop playing or pixelate. I would be 100% in favor of doubling the diameter of 4k discs if we could get reliable playback with complete studio video and audio data.
I like that the Onkyo doesn't need an external amp to power all of its channels. The Primare has a more premium feel and look. They both sound good. The Onkyo is less expensive.
Nice review. Question tho, what is the listed frequency/bandwidth with all channels driven? Most amplification is tested at 1khz wpc which isn't real would listening. Thx
They don’t even provide an all channels driven measurement that I can find. All the researching was able to do examining 3rd party measurements puts it at just north of 100 watts per channel when everything is loaded. Which is pretty impressive at 11 channels. I’ve flexed it hard with pretty heavy loads and it’s not failed me. Impressive.
Hey Jiles audioholics advises to NEVER set an AVR to the 4 ohm mode like you did in the video because it completely neuters the amount of power the AVR can reproduce.
It's so odd that the X3800 is compared to the RZs, as the Onkyos absolutely DWARF the Denon in terms of sheer size - though I understand they're being compared based on price. Also, the build quality between the Denon and the RZs is like night and day, and I don't know where Denon gets the balls to charge what they do for an amp with a plastic front panel and knobs. Heck, I hate the fact that we had to pay a grand for the 2800 and THAT was entirely plastic (on the front).
yeah but they are rigged with so much bugs. I have just got AVR11 sent one back and the second one is no better. I doubt the Onkyo would be far off, I am considering Onkyo or Marantz cinema 40
RZ70 is a nice AVR but honestly, I don't think the RZ70 is a great value right now for an average home theater setup. Not when the RZ50 can do almost everything it can do (mainly less power- though still plenty, no independent subs - but you can get around that and needs external amp for 11ch) and is sold for just $1000 (as of this post). Just add another $100-150 for the external amp to get the full 11 ch setup (7.1.4). If the RZ70 goes to $1500 range, then it be truly worth it. Also on a side note, I hear Dirac is gonna lower prices on their software. Always a good thing when stuff gets cheaper - wonder if that will affect the AVR prices since a lot of them come with Dirac licenses.
Onkyo = junk. Last two Onkyo amps I bought BOTH became inoperable AND economically not worth repairing right after warranty period expired. The idea of spending 2 grand on ANY of their products is absurd.
Stop living in the past man. Those were hdmi board problems that every company had back then. It's a thing of the past, besides this is built by the new Japanese premium company that bought onkyo. Just look at the internals on this thing and the size of those heat sinks. Lastly watch the bench test results on this at audioholics.

Thats awesome!
Cheers....
Wow, this thing is fantastic!
Yeah, it’s pretty magical for 2k. It does Auro3d too. I didn’t even get to that in the video.
@@JilesMcCoy do you know if it can do 5.1.6 or 5.2.6?
There isn’t any support for 6 heights that I saw.
Just a sugestion. Next time you profile the rear of a receiver can you center and zoom in the camera a little better?
Ill do the best I can.
Im still using my monster Yamaha DSPZ9. The rz70 might just be the one for an upgrade
Nice!

I was serious about that Laser Disc player! If anyone has one laying around let me know!
I have an extra one. Pioneer

How do you feel compared to Primare SPA25?

FYI: Laserdisc players have composite video outputs, and some have s-video outputs. But not component. That came with DVD.
Thanks for watching!
$4000+ in Canada, still worth it? Why double in Canada? What’s the reason? Dollar taxes shipping doesn’t double it.
Depends on what other things cost up there.
weights tooo much ! But i love it!

@@JilesMcCoy that's impressive if at full range. Thanks Jiles for the quick reply .

I saw. But you can totally do it and this guy still kicks ass. And I really do have 4 ohm speakers.
The volume is low and hard to hear

@@JilesMcCoy Still great content, as usual.
Thanks! Appreciate it!
Nice piece! Now there's competition to the X3800H Denon but with power for all channels. Also, I have an extra laser disc player. Pioneer brand.

125 real watts is plenty of power. If you want, replace the 1 with a 2 and nobody would no the difference even if they say they could
I agree. It’s less than 3 db and it already gets louder than you can listen.
Arcam AV Receivers sound better than Onkyo AV Receivers
