    One of the first things I tried making in the Air Fryer was Sausage Rolls.I used Edwards of Conwy Sausage meat because they do really good bacon too and some ready rolled puff pastry and some egg wash.I did put some Chopped Leek in with the Sausage Meat being a Welshman.I was Strutting about like Gordon Ramsey for the rest of the Day 😊

    Only occasionally had Greggs when working on site for a quick fix. Cannot say if Aldi or Iceland is better. Because i class them as junk food to be honest. Have tried Marks and Sparks Best Ever ones maybe once a month. They are nice and meaty with a variety of fillings. More expensive guess they are at £8 Quid for 16 or 50p each. But you get what you pay for in the end. No blood pressure, not over weight, no heart problems and still working in heavy engineering at 68. Get my drift.

  • @JonPaul1953
    @JonPaul1953 5 місяців тому +40

    The Aldi and Greggs are 20% pork, Gaz. The Iceland are 45% pork sausage meat, which includes water, wheat and other fillers. So the lower protein is probs because it's less than 20% pork🤔.

    • @eadweard.
      @eadweard. 5 місяців тому +2

      For reference, what would a pure-pork sausage in pastry be - 50-60%?

    • @JonPaul1953
      @JonPaul1953 5 місяців тому +2

      @@eadweard. Don't know. If it was 100% pork you'd have to take it apart before cooking and weigh the pastry and meat separately.

    • @stevenham1937
      @stevenham1937 5 місяців тому +3

      Nah. Although meat is mostly protein it’s not only referencing meat protein in the figures. For example a bagel has 8-9g of protein per bagel. The higher protein amount could be from thicker pastry etc

    • @stephenhollinrake916
      @stephenhollinrake916 5 місяців тому +3

      Probably the pork sausage meat is high in fat so the protein will be lower !

    Here's one for you Gaz my brother used to do contract maintenance work a few years back and one of his contracts was at a cup a soup factory. All the branded and supermarket cup a soups are made and packaged in the same factory! He used to bring me a carrier bag full of freebies. Great when out walking or hiking with a bit of crusty bread! Everything from Lloyd Grossman stuff to Tesco budget (basically all the same!).

    Great comparison. I'll have to give the Aldi a try. My problem with these is adjusting the cooking time and temperature because my fan oven burned the Greggs into charcoal briquettes at 200c for 25mins! Some tinkering required or maybe use the non fan top oven that's with the grill. 👍

    It doesn’t pay to be a food snob, Gareth. I used to be pro Morrisons & Asda, Aldi, Iceland, I have now seen the light, for me personally it’s Sainsbury’s, m&s, farmfoods & Lidl. I personally think my new supermarkets offer what’s best for my pallet. But Farmfoods & Sainsbury’s are my main go to every week. Keep up the great content!

There are many brands some better,some worse, however I think most of us play safe and stick with Greggs Maybe living on a reputation, but still the No1😊 Allan&Family

    Hi Gareth, hope you well, I had a sausage roll for my diner, it's a local make you won't have these were you are, It's all local pork 10 miles with in Wrexham . It's a Village Bakery made in Coedpoeth 4 miles from Wrexham they produce all types of pies , cakes and bread,. Village Bakery make bread for Marks & Spencer, There sausage rolls are very nice and peppery in taste. I have tried Aldi and Lidl sausage rolls and I don't mind them, Greggs are OK but I don't mind Pound bakery sausage rolls but they got to be bought at the shop, I haven't had the frozen Greggs just had them from the shop. As always a good honest review catch you soon, Take care😁😋🤤👍

    I do like Greggs sausage rolls Gareth but I’m like you I love pepper…! So if you boil it down these products are not “so much” about %of meat but more about initial taste… god knows what part of the pig goes into these things and perhaps we shouldn’t know as it could affect us buying them, but most food products are “just about taste”… that’s what makes us buy I think 👍🏻

    I have had better sausage rolls than Greggs, but not very often and mainly in good cafes where they are a lot more expensive. Overall, I would take Greggs over most others. We like the aldi roll because the slits in the top, for us hold the ideal amount of sweet chilli sauce per bite. I'll be honest and we would not get the iceland roll due to the soy protein, at least it is not GMO soy as that has to be labeled, but we are weary of that atm due to issues with GMO soy being sold as non-gmo soy.

    I don't know what greggs have done to their sausage rolls, they used to be lovely year's ago. Then all of a sudden something changed about them, I don't know if it's that they are using a different glaze or what, only I can no longer eat them, as they have me running off to the loo. I haven't tried any of the others, I just by sheets of pastry and sausages now, and make my own. I believe that the yellow colouring of the Aldi Sausage Rolls is powdered egg for colouring and replaces the need to baste them separately.

      Hmmm I thought it might be some horrific "brioche" style treatment.

    good review dont know why people love greggs,is it because they are warm and available at the outlet?instead of heating up at home?.

    Iceland do a bag of 25 mini sausage rolls in the £1 range. Same taste as the two for a £1. Barging for kids parties etc

    Iceland is listing the ingredients differently. Yes, it's 45% but it's 45% pork SAUSAGE MEAT. The others are 20% just pork. Obviously sausage meat is made from more than just pork. Not comparing like with like.

    The yellow on the Aldi sausage rolls, is just a generous coating of egg wash....

    I just tried the new Jumbo sausage roll from Iceland this very morning and I loved it. 50p per sausage roll and as tasty as it is, can't be bad.

    I work for Greggs and you really can't justify the price anymore, especially when you can get better for less than half the price.
