Hey Gareth, these are really great videos for normal people on normal budgets mate. Thanks so much for what you do. Great stuff keep it up bro. You are a proper role model mate. Your family should be well proud of you. Cheers. Andy
Fish fingers taste better than caviar anyway. I tried it once when it was on special offer. It tasted a bit like slightly salty water with a slight tang of seaweed. The texture wasn't great either. Jellied eels are a bit similar but with a stronger taste of salt & an even worse texture. Not worth bothering with. They may have been good nutrionally mind you but then so is tinned or smoked mackeral & that is not half so expensive. Could you do a comparison of tinned mackeral in tomato sauce? Personally I think the Morrisons one tastes better than the John West. I have it with salad & a bit of salad cream, which makes a quick & tasty lunch.
Hi BFG: I really enjoy your comparisons videos. I think they are very useful for people on a low budget (like me) and let the public know how to choose best quality products according to what they have to pay. Keep it up!!!
You are by far the best food reviewer that I have ever seen, and pig that I am I've watched hundreds.I was sat watching your sausage review with my boys ( four French bulldogs) and we were concentrating on your face whilst you ate lol.Needless to say your recommended sausages are in my shopping cart.God Bless you for making these videos you are an absolute pleasure to watch love and best wishes from my boys and I.
If you want omega 3 eat mackerel, not white fish which has a fraction of long chain fatty acids as oily fish, but they put lies on the box so you purchase. The colour of the fish finger is from an added dye food colourant and adds no flavour. Love a fish finger butty with loads of butter and ketchup. Great vids for folk that aren't on a politician's money !
As a born and bred 'Cornishman' growing up on a farm ON the coast in Cornwall (UK) fishing brought in Mackerel, Herring, Bass (Sea) et et 👍When I stayed at my Aunt's in Newquay Cornwall (UK) I would go down to the harbour and fetch back Mackerel freshly caught for a few bob.. 👀You're so right re the claims of these factory processed food suppliers.. Often the actual fish in some can be a blended mix of ?! 👍Oh and my mon used to make the most delicious pilchard fish cakes EVER! We make them even today to the same recipe et with a salad AWESOME! 😀Our friends swear by (and after eating some of them -we can totally agree!👍) Young's 'Gastro - Tempura battered - COD fish fingers.' They do Haddock which are cheaper but the COD is definitely AWESOME.. with a butty and NO you don't need SAUCE!! 👍
Thanks for these videos. Useful comparisons, and you helpfully show the ingredients. This saves me from having to get the specs out to read them in the shop. I didn't finish watching this one, because after 8 minutes, you had shown that all of them contain potato starch, which I can't eat. So thank you for eliminating all these fish fingers from my menu!
If you are doing big brand / own brand comparisons, particularly of fish or meat products, please give us a quick shot of the complete packages from all sides. At 7:15 (Asda) and 8:20 (Morrison’s) there were little ovals saying GB GG270. This tells us they both came out of the same factory, but we never saw those codes for Aldi or Birds Eye.
Youngs Seafoods in Grimsby make fish fingers for Aldi, Tesco, Morrisons and M&S so you know these are going to be decent quality. Manufacturer code GG268.
Loved the way you said, "If you're absolutely loaded go for the dearer brands" If I was 'absolutely loaded' I wouldn't eat fish fingers at all, I'd eat fresh wild caught Scottish Salmon. Love the programs, keep them coming.
Fish fingers were manufactured for kids since once upon a time were scared to eat fish because of the bones and also the size of the fish fingers were designed for "child size potions.
Love these comparison videos ! I'm feeling off colour today so working my way through your playlists ! Great videos and lives , I'm new only been watching a week and addicted ! Missing all my TV programmes watching these videos instead! 😆😆
So difficult to compare when the weights are different. I decided to work out the price per 100grams and it comes out as follows:- Aldi 31p; Morrisons 58p; Asda 73p & Birds Eye 89p. Wish Aldi was a 10 pack then you would get a better comparison of fish texture and taste i.e. more fish in each finger.
This is what many fish processing companies DON'T want the consumers to know. 👀As a Cornishman growing up on a farm in Cornwall (UK) ON the COAST, we regularly caught Mackerel, Herring, Sea Bass, et et 👀My mom regularly made Pilchard fish CAKES.. (cheap and filling) which were the best EVER and we still, to the same recipe make them today.. with a salad.. summer AWESOME! 👍 Fish fingers sell because kids are hooked on them IF the parents let them.. home made fish cakes can be fun with kids to make FRESH and soooo much cheaper!
Hi Gareth....i been away so got loads to catch up on lol....loved this review....as a kid fish fingers, chips and beans was my fave dinner...we'd normally have it on a Saturday evening....sometimes with mash potato instead of chips...Mum always used to make her own chips too...deep fried in lard....can't beat home made chips...i do my own too but in oil!! I think the Birdseye ones were disappointing....price, weight, less fish...they should be ashamed lol!!!...i usually buy Morrison's one...will have to give the Asda ones a go too ! Excellent review :-)
Thanks for that. It helps a lot if us. And I thought you said the birdeye one what lighter. 24 as the other were 26. And that's why I do not buy them anymore. I knows it's not a lot. But you have proved to me I was right in thinking they were smaller. Thanks again.
I tried the Birds Eye Alaskan Pollock fish fingers when Tesco had them on a Club Card price of £1 for 10 (well worth a gamble at that price) and loved them. I'll have to give the Aldi ones a go.
Well I like this sort of content. It's good to see comparisons and taste tests of ordinary foods, although not something I ever thought I would say lol Thank you.
Hi Gaz. Great video yet again. Nothing wrong with Pollock or Pollack depending on which end of the country you live - both spellings are correct though. I much prefer its flavour and texture to that of Cod or Haddock any day. We have only been pushed towards Cod and Haddock because it is what we have come to expect from the chippy who rarely stock Pollock. One of my favourite snacks at any time of the day from breakfast through to supper is 3 fish fingers in a lightly toasted and buttered nice soft bread roll (I usually get the pre sliced ones by Warburtons) with a splash of tomato ketchup on one side and a good dollop of tartare sauce in the other.
I like cod and haddock but try to buy pollock when I can as it's a reasonably palatable fish. Selecting Pollock is supposed to take the strain off cod and haddock stocks.
I'm not a fan of hash browns but having been a breakfast chef i've used different ones and they vary alot. All i can say is don't buy the co-op ones they're cheap and nasty .. in fact best not buy anything at the co-op at all. The better hash browns i found are generally the larger ones as they cook more evenly so they're crispy outside and soft inside.
Hey Gareth, had similar past to your self mate, wachted all your video's not only loads of information but really entertaining I love the videos keep them up mate, what a guy.
Now that was one amazing review gareth it's my heaven I've said I don't really do fish apart from haddock and cod but I do love fish fingers and fish cakes so this review was top draw I've not tried any of the supermarket brands so I can't comment on them but I always go for birds eye or youngs because it's always stated haddock or cod not fish??? Brilliant review I would have been in heaven with you in your kitchen chips in fish fingers in red sauce on and beer in 👍👍👍👍👍👍🍅🍅🍿🍿🐟🐟

Great video, love a fish finger butty 😋, would you consider doing a vid on a ready meal out of the freezer from M&S and Ocado, it's a Picards, prawn and scollop vegetable pasta, I tried it for the first time about 3 months ago, I had never had scollops before, now I'm hooked, lol, happy eating
I love a Fish Finger and Tartare Sauce sandwich! Birds Eye Chunky Fish Fingers are pretty good too. Thanks for the review Gareth, all the best to you :)
Just catching up on your videos. We like the Aldi ones because we do fish finger burgers. Add some tartar sauce. Plenty of fish fish fingers in each burger! Lovely
I wouldn't buy the Aldi ones as I don't like Pollock or Basa. I usually buy the Birds Eye ones. Looking at them the Asda and the Morrisons ones look better. Most things are made in the same factory doesn't make them the same product . As recipes and ingredients are different . As supermarkets go to so called factory and say to them we wanna sell a 6 bag of crisps for 58p say and they say yeah . And Wat you get is smaller crisps in the packet like broken up pieces they use lower grade potatoes , lower grade flavourings . Things have always got to be cheaper for reason got to cut cost somewhere and to do that it's the ingredients . Same if your buy cheap soft drinks like lemonade the cheaper ones taste like fizzy water. You can take car tyres as a expamle you get budget and mid range And premium. Now the budget tyres are prob made by the same company that makes Goodyear or Avon . But the quality not the same as they don't last as long and don't get same grip and that

Love watching these videos they are so relaxing Not sure if you have done any hotdogs comparison videos yet I only thought about them as Alexa was playing The King of Rock ’n’ Roll Song by Prefab Sprout While I was making some oveltine Hot chocolate in the kitchen lol 😂😂
We always buy the aldi once there nice , i dont think you cooked them long enough for me that's why the aldi coating was a bit sloppier like you said ,😀
Hey hey big fella loving the content as per...but you do make me chuckle..in a good way of course. Bitta betta light..priceless...but me old mucker..all that shopping for the comparison four haddock and one pollock..... ???keep up the good work only messing..x
How's it going mate? Love the channel. Unfortunately a lot of what you review requires the oven on fairly high for 30 mins or so. This used to make me feel guilty, using loads of power for a snack just for me, then I discovered air frying. Bought a 2.5litre Salter from Lidl, £30 I think. Bloody marvellous, I can cook loads more lovely junk much cheaper, less smells and less mess. I reckon you need one .
Hey Gareth for value for money and it's good to see that Aldi are using sustainable fish in there fish fingers and I mainly shop in Aldi so for me they win keep up the good work 👍🍻
Hiya Gareth! There’s nothing like a fish finger and on a sandwich. I bought some chunky cod fish fingers from Tesco from the fresh fridges section. Get 6 for £2.50. Yes it’s expensive but boy were they good with some home fries and baked beans. Definitely quality chunky cod fish fingers. Gonna get some more if I can. Never tried haddock fish fingers before. Intrigued to try some. Can recommend jumbo birds chunky fish fingers which come in either batter or breadcrumbs. Enjoy 😋😋😋
Yeh, noticed that with a few things, crisps etc, I remember an Asda employee telling me once they had a delivery of some bread product and they sent them with Tescos label instead of Asda
really enjoy your videos mate, and Im a poncy southerner! Love your accent as well, having just had a few days up near Durham. Anyway enough of the waffle, you cant beat a fish finger sandwich with ketchup - how common lol
Iv always bought Birdsrye haddock fish fingers but for a while iv noticed the fish doesnt look nice & there's very little fish.. so I recently tryed morrisons own & the fish was so much better.. I won't pay birdseye prices again x
Family is gonna be eating fish fingers for a wee bit. Great comparative review. We need these kinds of instant help guides. And you're gonna have to get the good wife to blind you to what you are eating so that this is a rigorously controlled taste test 🧐🤣
Allreat fella, i knew this would be a close one that's why i suggested it, just goes to show it doesn't really matter how much you pay the difference is so small and like you said you get more for your money with the ALDI, all the best from across the bay.
I done a wee bit of this challenge, i bought aldi fish fingers & birds eye, both cod, identical ingredients but i found the birds eye were more tastier !!! Which considering the ingredients were the same , i found to be a bit odd !! Unless some manufacturers hide certain things.

I like fishfingers that have batter on rather than breadcrumbs. Will you be tasting those?
Love watching these videos they are so relaxing Not sure if you have done any hotdogs comparison videos yet I only thought about them as Alexa was playing The King of Rock ’n’ Roll
Song by Prefab Sprout
While I was making some oveltine Hot chocolate in the kitchen lol 😂😂
Thank you
Hi 👋 do you favour Aldi products more? Because of cost? Pollock is a cheaper fish than haddock.
Just found your channel. Brilliant. Looking forward to watching your other videos. Thanks
Thank you Sylvia, your welcome 👌👌
Tesco Rustic Breaded Fishfingers are absolutely amazing. Hard to find them at times.
Good video pal..Cant beat aldi fish fingers for the price and quality.. Fish fingers with mushy peas and boiled potatoes..
Haha glad you like mate, thank you, all the best pal, Gareth 👍👍

@@BaldFoodieGuy always look out for the videos pal. I won’t lie I watch em on the big at work while I have my sit down wee for 10 mins haha
Cheers Tom, take care at work mate 👍
@@BaldFoodieGuy cheers pal
How's it going mate? Love the channel. Unfortunately a lot of what you review requires the oven on fairly high for 30 mins or so. This used to make me feel guilty, using loads of power for a snack just for me, then I discovered air frying. Bought a 2.5litre Salter from Lidl, £30 I think. Bloody marvellous, I can cook loads more lovely junk much cheaper, less smells and less mess. I reckon you need one .
I've got an air fryer now, I did an Unboxing. Check that video out, they are amazing

Hey Gareth for value for money and it's good to see that Aldi are using sustainable fish in there fish fingers and I mainly shop in Aldi so for me they win keep up the good work 👍🍻
cheers Andy
Hiya Gareth! There’s nothing like a fish finger and on a sandwich. I bought some chunky cod fish fingers from Tesco from the fresh fridges section.
Get 6 for £2.50. Yes it’s expensive but boy were they good with some home fries and baked beans. Definitely quality chunky cod fish fingers. Gonna get some more if I can. Never tried haddock fish fingers before. Intrigued to try some. Can recommend jumbo birds chunky fish fingers which come in either batter or breadcrumbs. Enjoy 😋😋😋
Cheers Sara, hope your well, all the best, Gareth 👍👍
chances are the Asda and Morrisons are the same just in different packaging. Its often the same with many supermarkets own brands
Yeh, noticed that with a few things, crisps etc, I remember an Asda employee telling me once they had a delivery of some bread product and they sent them with Tescos label instead of Asda
New subscriber here. loving your channel Gareth, so refreshing to get honest reviews, Cheers H
Cheers Harry, welcome to the channel and enjoy the videos, all the best, Gareth 👍👍
BFG out here answering the real questions
really enjoy your videos mate, and Im a poncy southerner! Love your accent as well, having just had a few days up near Durham. Anyway enough of the waffle, you cant beat a fish finger sandwich with ketchup - how common lol
Cheers Robin. I love a fish finger sandwich 😋😋
most fish fingers are made with fish landed at grimsby and made in grimsby factories, just down the road from me xxx
Great review Gaz. I get these Asda fishfingers every week, cant beat them
Thank you 👌

Your Family must be very proud of you Best Wishes to you all Take Care X

@@BaldFoodieGuy Love fish fingers but some of the bread crumb cases are far too thick and soggy
I like the cod fish fingers from Aldi

U can't beat birds eye in my opinion I het the chunky haddock ones from icelands another great review pal
Cheers Vortex👌😋
Iv always bought Birdsrye haddock fish fingers but for a while iv noticed the fish doesnt look nice & there's very little fish.. so I recently tryed morrisons own & the fish was so much better.. I won't pay birdseye prices again x

Thank you Claire 😘👍👍👌
Family is gonna be eating fish fingers for a wee bit. Great comparative review. We need these kinds of instant help guides. And you're gonna have to get the good wife to blind you to what you are eating so that this is a rigorously controlled taste test 🧐🤣
Cheers, yes they won't last long lol
What part of a pollack is haddock???. How can they possibly be sold as haddock.
Hey m8,ure better off purchasing Pollock products as It tastes like Haddock and it saves the overfishing of Haddock.Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Hi mate ive just subscribed I love your videos keep up the. Good work
Cheers Chris, welcome to the channel and enjoy the videos, all the best, Gareth 😋👌👌
I’ve never tried the birds eye but it looks good value for money. Had the Asda’s one a few weeks back still has that nice crispy crumb.
Cheers
How did I miss this one? I love fish fingers.
Allreat fella, i knew this would be a close one that's why i suggested it, just goes to show it doesn't really matter how much you pay the difference is so small and like you said you get more for your money with the ALDI, all the best from across the bay.
Cheers Eddie yes they are very small arnt they. Take care, Gareth 👌👌
Birdseye haddock all the way for me
I done a wee bit of this challenge, i bought aldi fish fingers & birds eye, both cod, identical ingredients but i found the birds eye were more tastier !!! Which considering the ingredients were the same , i found to be a bit odd !! Unless some manufacturers hide certain things.
Nice work!
