What is your favorite Gregg's item? What should we get next time? If you're new here, watch this video where we try Nando's for the first time: ua-cam.com/video/GMCDjH9Khko/v-deo.html
I am an employee at Greggs the most popular things we sell are steak bakes. There is a vegan sausage and bean bake which may surprise you how tasty it is even though it has no meat. When you visit again try the glazed doughnut. There really yummy and vegan too.
For some reason the vegan options and vegetable pasty gives me heartburn. Been vegetarian a year so stick with the cheese and onion bakes or pizza. I miss the steak bakes 😋
It's not so much "UK cornbeef is different" it's more of the fact this was an alternative method of making "cornbeef" during the boom of canned products, it was more of a rationing thing
My go to is the sausage, bean, and cheese melt, the yum yums, and the toffee custard donut. Gregg’s coffee is really smooth for a cheap chain eatery! McDonald’s always tastes burnt but Gregg’s nails it
We loved Greggs when we visited, we are from Australia, they had a Sparkling Raspberry Lemonade.in a bottle that was the best soft drink or do you call it soda that we tried. Now for the food for breakfast we loved the Sausage and Omelette Breakfast Baguette, that was yum. As for other food we loved the cheese and onion bake and loved the sausage roll.. All the baguettes we tried were good. We had these mini strawberry tarts they were divine. Also I love watching your UK adventures, you look like you having a blast,
The sausage roll, steak bake, chicken bake, cheese and onion bake would be my go to, and for sweets, the yum yums 😄 Also, if you are able to get the pasties warm or hot freshly out of the oven, it tastes even better!
You must try Greggs Cheese and Onion pasty. The Chicken bake is also one of my favourites as I just love the delicious creamy sauce inside. I totally agree with you guys about the Sausage roll and the pizza 🍕 very very tasty 😋 take care Dave
I think with a lot of these videos it’s important to remember this is basically fast food. It’s never going to be amazing but for the price it’s incredible
Love the channel for both of you! A late comment but just incase you were unaware I thought I would advise on the following: In case you wondered the reason why food isn't always hot at Greggs is the fact that they don't call themselves a hot bakery because with hot food they would have to charge tax on it. Therefore if you want your items to be hot such as the sausage rolls / bakes the best time is probably lunchtime or a busy time when demand is there so they'll be heating a fresh batch of bakes etc regularly.
The cheese and bacon turnover is a life changer! Also the Sausage bean and cheese melt is really good.. however if you don't like baked beans it won't be your thing. Chicken bake is ok too and steak bake is good. I would say any of these. Defo the turnover though. I would not recommend their vegan sausage rolls but their vegan steak bakes and other vegan items such as vegan sausage bean and cheese melt are lovely.
My wife loves the Jammy Heart Biscuits, my daughter loves the sausage rolls. As for doughnuts, my favourite is to find a little fresh doughnut stall/shop that makes them to order. Fresh cooked with a little sugar is awesome. Also, I'd suggest trying a decent all butter or clotted cream Shortbread (not Shortcake, that's different). This is not actually bread, but a kind of biscuit. Two varieties I'd suggest is plain with sugar and what's called "Millionaire's Shortbread", which is shortbread topped with caramel and chocolate.
Great video! As a meat-eater, the Vegan sausage roll from Greggs is pretty good. Other options you have to try when you next visit: Steak Bake and the Yum Yums are incredible. At Christmas they have a limited item called a festive bake which is also delicious - chicken breast pieces, sage and onion stuffing, bacon and a creamy sage and cranberry sauce. Superb in the cold weather!
I always have a steak bake at Greggs. Hubby loves the cheese & onion. I still haven’t tried the vegan sausage roll so look forward to your opinions on that!
The vegan sausage rolls are gorgeous, little less greasy than the meat version. I actually preferred the vegan steak bake to the regular too. Hope they bring it back again in the future.
Randomly clicked on this video and was surprised to see my home town! Hope you enjoyed Wells! But yeah the context of greggs is just that is super cheap and everywhere so you won’t get the best stuff ever but it’s reliable and sates a craving.
you guys have to tray a traditional greasy spoon cafe........get a propper fry for breakfast and a pot of tea, ask a balck cab driver or the reception at the hotel, ask for a traditional greasy spoon cafe for a proper breakfast fry......you won't be disappointed.
In the early days of Greggs opening up the first store in Newcastle Upon Tyne, the food was ok, the sausage rolls, pies and pasties were full and crammed to the crust. Now, things are very different even down to the pastry, which seems to be very rich and buttery. The only thing I buy from there now, is ‘grab food’ in the way of a tuna crunch baguette and a toffee custard donut or a peach melba. And even the peach melba is a little short on peaches compared to years ago.
Choice from Greggs would be a Stottie cake. You can tell you're in the North of England when you see Greggs selling Stotties :-) somewhere around an east west line running through Doncaster. A stottie is a flat bread and if you are a tourist looking to make a sandwich to carry with you you so can't go wrong. Bacon/sausage or ham/pease pudding is well worth a go. Also bear in mind if you can't find something someone suggests, it might be because it's a regional item only sold in certain areas. Like the Stotties. They went from a bike delivery to one shop, Greggs of Gosforth to a national chain. Side fact, The Greggs on Northumberland street in Newcastle is the only shop that I know of that reverses the letters in it's name at Christmas :-) SGGERG. They do it because over the road is a dept store called Fenwicks which has a Christmas window display and when people take pictures, the name Greggs name appears the right way round in the window reflection:-)
If you're staying in Wells, you must visit the next town along, Glastonbury ( where the famous music Festival is next week) and climb the tor. It will blow your minds.
I just found your channel. And was just thinking wow that really looks like my local greggs. Then you showed wells high street lol. I live in wells. 5 minutes from the town. What a small world
Try a breakfast baguette with a latte. I love the sausage bean and cheese melt, but I am in my 40s, lived in the UK all my life and tried the chicken bake for the first time last week! Its now my favourite!
A recommendation is a vanilla or cream slice with its flaky puff pastry and custard filling. Elephants feet is another delight its choux pastry filled with fresh cream and dipped in Melted milk chocolate, this choux pastry can also be used for Chocolate eclairs and pofiteroles.
I'm not a fan of Greggs but I'm glad you mention/consider price, its something most channels that react to foods forget about, if somethings cheap yet acceptable then it increases its worth, not least of all that this is UK fast food which is warm/hot, we are used to things being cold and miserable like us lol which is probably why a cheap chain like Greggs is so popular
To be honest as you say Greggs is a typical high street bakery chain so anything you get will be just ok, they’re nothing outstanding about any of their items when compared to specialist or fancy boutique bakeries or eateries. You could try the other filled pastries like the sausage, bean and cheese melt, beef melt or chicken melt. Glad you guys are enjoying your holiday.
Also if you’re on a quest for good sausage rolls, may I humbly suggest the Co Op sausage rolls (a bag of about 5 or 6 if I remember correctly) and also, in Asda there is a tiny hot food counter thingy where you can get hot sausage rolls (and other hot food items like a bacon bap but I’m strictly recommending the sausage rolls here) and those are amazing as well. I do miss a good sausage roll! Never under any circumstances get a gingsters.
Greggs - tried once and not been in there again, except once for an emergency sandwich. Maybe it’s the afternoon version of a doner kebab: only eat when plastered. I can see why it may have been recommended - hot, cheap comfort food. Pizza chains - Pizza Hut cheap and cheerful and so has lots of kids running about, except in the Oxford Street branch. There’s a technique to filling the salad bowl- build a medieval wall of cucumber standing up around on its edge to make a bigger bowl! Pizza Express - better chain. Local pizza shops are not always better. The fancier they are, the more plants they have outside.
The Greggs sausage roll is always a winner, i used to get the chicken and mushroom slice or a sausage or bacon baguette. It's cheap and cheerful food on the run.
I've never actually seen corned beef bakes in Greggs and I was in there today. Maybe it varies by what part of the country. Really want one of those doughnuts now. :)
as a greggs worker, yes, they are a regional item, mostly wales and the southwest stores sell them, there are many regional items, the north and scotland have quite a lot of different menu items compared to wales and the south
Yeah, lots of regional items. In the north east Greggs sell stotties and stottie sandwiches. Very disappointed when I moved down south and found they're not sold here.
My favourite Gregg's items are: 1 Steak Bake 2 Corned beef bake (the one you just did not like, the first item you tried) 3 Their Christmas sandwiches at Christmad I cannot wait for them each year.
best things from greggs are steak bakes, sausage and bean melt, chicken bakes are alright, sausage rolls, and the sandwiches/baguettes, occasionally they do limited edition pasties which are usually good as well, everything else is hit and miss really, at least for me anyway When you travel up north (not sure if they are in the south to be honest), the pound bakery I would say is better than greggs, we have a few in liverpool and would definitely go there for sausage rolls and pasties over greggs In terms of coffee, costa and cafe Nero are far better than starbucks
UK corned beef is finely ground mush packed into tin. It was a war time staple as it lasts for ages. I used to like it in stuffed jacket potatoes. US corned beef is a brined and slow cooked cut of meat i believe. Both are very different.
I think you worked Greggs out. It's not the best food, in fact far from it- but it's cheap and they are ubiquitous- you can find a Greggs anywhere and for grabbing a quick breakfast or lunch for very little expenditure they are extremely handy.
I'm sure this has been commented before, but: 1. Greggs is fast food, so don't go looking for gormet quality. 2. American corned beef is what we'd call salt beef. UK corned beef is a preserved minced beef (also salted) that usually comes in cans (much like spam does).
I. Ever even knew there was a corned beef bake! It’s all about the chicken bake, the sausage roll, the pizza, the yum yums, and if the other aforementioned items are gone there’s the sausage and bean melt and then my friends, There’s the seasonal items like the festive bake. That one only comes in at Christmas. I’ve been vegetarian. For a little over 3 years now and I still miss a good chicken bake!
Best is either a steak slice, rich beefy gravy and good chunks of tender meat or, the chicken slice. Up in Tyneside, Greggs bake a local delicacy, Stotty cake
If you are coming through North Yorkshire try the farm shop at Castle Howard (best sausage roll I've eaten in 60 odd years of sampling), Hovingham bakery (in Hovingham), Bothams in Pickering and Mainsgill farm shop on the A66 (the latter is an eye widener that gets coach parties!).
I rarely buy Greggs baked goods because they are so fattening! But their bacon rolls and lunch baguettes are amazing, especially the chilli chicken with Jalapeno baguettes. The coffee is good too, it scratches your Costa itch without making you need to wee all the time. They are perfect for when you're on the road and slip in to the services.
I'm totally baffled at what people see in Greggs? Virtually every high street baker has better warm savouries and a good local bakery will always trump Gregg's ' mass produced rubbish.
Agreed. We had a wonderful family-run bakery which made a wider range of vastly superior products, but it went to the wall after a branch of Greggs opened in our town.
@@paulelroy6650 I'm not convinced with that? Our local bakery is the same price and very good....Greggs came to my town quite recently and are not doing brilliant... Seems to be youngster's who have bought the marketing?
Sausage and bean melt, chicken bake and sausage rolls can’t go wrong. Yum yums are fantastic from Greggs! The perfect not too sweet treat. Pizza yes they do look like from school! That crispy French bread crunch can’t beat it. Their breakfast sausage or bacon , even both on a bread roll or baguette with ketchup/ brown sauce yum they are to die for!
I admittedly probably eat way too much from Greggs (it’s across the road from where I work) but if you visit one often you begin to know when the best time to go is. I find a lot of their items taste so much better when fresh out of the oven, if they’ve been sat there a while they just don’t hit the same. The chicken bake is a amazing when it’s hot, not so much when it’s cold. The cheese and onion bake is a must try, as well as the vegan sausage roll and steak bake.
Brilliant and important work chaps. I think you're right in your pie assessments. I wish Gregg's would ditch the pretence and just serve hot flaky pastry with no filling. I'd be happy. PS I often have a sausage (or vegan) roll for brekky when I'm nearby. Spread the word.
Steak bake is a must, the cheese and bacon turn over is also pretty good, and you must try the Belgian buns and apple danish. I prefer Greggs coffee over starbucks any day of the week.
You can take Greggs Sausage rolls back to the US now. The supermarket Iceland sells them. Follow the cooking instructions and they come out exactly the same.
bacon and cheese wrap, steak bake + more bacon and cheese wraps. go at 11:30am as more chance of having them fully stocked up fresh out of the oven ready for lunch time :) festive bake (tho only available during xmas time :( sad times.) or if you're in Derbyshire try Birds Bakery and see which you prefer
If you have not done so already why not try out Wimpy which is a UK burger restaurant chain where meals are plated rather than fast food. Not all towns have one, but has been a favourite of mine since the 60's. Was in the Southend On Sea one today and they are currently running a couple of special deals. One is every day until end of June and you get a smoky BBQ burger and an eton mess ice cream sundae for a bargain £6.95. The other deal is on Wednesdays only and is a burger and fries plus a drink for £5.95 all in. As far as I am aware Wimpy only operate in South Africa and the UK, so would be interesting to see what you think.
Just eat deliver Greggs in our area, it’s dangerous! If I need to use the courier, Greggs is next door. We now say we are off for a “cheeky Greggs”. I like the cheese and onion bake and the cheese and bacon wrap from the breakfast menu. My daughter adores the pepperoni pizza and the sausage rolls. She now wants to know where the nearest Greggs is to her flat when she goes off to university in Sheffield. Their sandwiches and baguettes are good too. Their yum yum donuts are gorgeous. Their cookies are good too, you can get 4 huge ones for £3. I love a vanilla slice, but as a diabetic they are very much a special treat.
If i were to go to greggs my choice would be a sausage roll, then yum yum and a cup of tea :) I think they do nice sandwiches too. I laughed at the school pizza description 😅 great video and love the wardrobe in the background at the end reminds me of the one from beauty and the beast 😂
I went to a pub in shoreditch in London (I think that’s where I was) and had the best pizza ever. They only did a 20” and by the slice. I had salami with rocket and another with a garlic cream sauce mushrooms and seeds.... and yes, me and my friend both got a 20” pizza each 😆 it was a good day
You can basically compare Gregg’s and a real pastry bakery (like a pasty shop in Cornwall) like you could compare McDonald’s to a proper burger restaurant. People like both - one because it’s processed comfort food and the other because it’s quality food.
they used to do a bacon and cheese pasty type thing, not sure if they still do it. it was very tasty, nice buttery pastry and just the right amount of bacon and cheese.
My favourite from childhood is cheese and onion pasty. Second sausage, bean and cheese melt. Big shout outs to sausage roll, breakfast rolls and margarita pizza. Mexican wrap is pretty good too
Ahh you guys were in Wells, don't know if you discovered whilst you were there, but that town square you filmed is where they filmed the movie Hot Fuzz, hope you got the chance to go down the road to Glastonbury and the Clarkes village in Street! BTW, ever do greggs again, go for the sausage, bean and cheese melt, ALL.DAY.LONG.
What is your favorite Gregg's item? What should we get next time? If you're new here, watch this video where we try Nando's for the first time: ua-cam.com/video/GMCDjH9Khko/v-deo.html
Steak bake and chicken bake and ofcourse the sausage roll.
Bacon and sausage breakfast roll with brown sausage and a coffee - good deal first thing in the morning.
Try chocolate eclairs😎
Sausage, beans and cheese melt is my go to and I can't have a Greggs Sausage roll without dipping it in brown sauce!
Their 'Yum Yums' are divine too
I am an employee at Greggs the most popular things we sell are steak bakes. There is a vegan sausage and bean bake which may surprise you how tasty it is even though it has no meat.
When you visit again try the glazed doughnut. There really yummy and vegan too.
I don't like the normal bean one because of the cheese. . I liked the vegan one very much though. Really surprised me.
For some reason the vegan options and vegetable pasty gives me heartburn. Been vegetarian a year so stick with the cheese and onion bakes or pizza.
I miss the steak bakes 😋
as a vegan, Greggs is honestly a lifesaver sometimes. decent options and cheap👍
Steak bakes are yummy
Definitely not an employee, as sausage rolls are the biggest seller.
Steak bake and a Belgian bun, can't go wrong with their steak bakes 😋
My favourite Greggs pastry is a Steak Bake. Second to that a Sausage Bean Melt.
This 👆🏻👏🏻
I wish they did cheese and beans ones
A lot of people are recommending that.
Just don't eat it straight away, it'll burn your lips off
Steak Bake all the way
The thing about Greggs is that it's basically the bakery equivalent of fast food, with all the compromises that entails.
I don't know about Greggs' baked goods, but the hotel bedroom wallpaper is a great match for Cara's glasses.🤓
I'm a veteran meat eater and I can say, having tried it multiple times, the vegan sausage roll is actually delicious. Definitely worth trying.
I second this
You can't be a veggie meat eater. There is no vegvie meat. Its either meat or not
@@Rocky19577 They said veteran meat eater, not veggie meat eater lmao
dyslexic@@Rocky19577
this is just propaganda
UK corned beef is very different to the US version. Actually that's my favourite from Greggs :)
Mine too. But I had my first one post-covid last week. £1.80.
Bit late but to delve deeper into their comments on pulverised meat it may as well be as it falls apart into meaty goodness
Just needs HP sauce
It's not so much "UK cornbeef is different" it's more of the fact this was an alternative method of making "cornbeef" during the boom of canned products, it was more of a rationing thing
My go to is the sausage, bean, and cheese melt, the yum yums, and the toffee custard donut.
Gregg’s coffee is really smooth for a cheap chain eatery! McDonald’s always tastes burnt but Gregg’s nails it

Oh yeah. I forgot about breakfast! The rolls are sooooo soft and like you I go for sausage and omelet with red sauce. 😋
The Raspberry Lemonade is amazing 🙂
Cheese and onion pasty (or bake as they're now called) and vegetable bakes are my favourite. I love the sausage rolls when they've gone cold 😍
What a great couple you are, really enjoying your videos, I hope you continue to enjoy your visit to us here in the UK.
Mines defo the cheese pie love it xx
agreed
They were nicer a few yrs back but they ditched a lot of fat and salt which ruined how good it was
I love a cheese and onion too
I think with a lot of these videos it’s important to remember this is basically fast food. It’s never going to be amazing but for the price it’s incredible
Love the channel for both of you! This is so funny, you two are so polite 🤣
Those corned beef pasties caught me too. I think they are made with almost 0.1% beef.
I thought the one time I had one, it was good, but the pastry was kind of undercooked.
Greggs pizza is like school lunch pizza. The vegan sausage roll is by far the best item. Their wedges and cheese and ham toastie are great too.
Yep! Wedges and vegan sausage roll are my favourites in Greggs (I'm not a vegan).
I’m not even vegan but I like the vegan sausage roll!
They do wedges!?
Just wanted to shout out the city of Wells. I Lived there for many years, and love it.
I have lived in the UK for 20 years and I have only been to Greggs once
The sausage cheese and bean pastie and the triple chocolate doughnut 🤤
Steak bakes are the best thing in Gregg’s as well as the sausage rolls. The chicken mayo baguettes are nice as well 😄
Great video! As a meat-eater, the Vegan sausage roll from Greggs is pretty good. Other options you have to try when you next visit: Steak Bake and the Yum Yums are incredible. I’m surprised you didn’t try the Steak Bake. Probably the best thing they sell after the Sausage Roll.
Good video. Enjoy it.
I always have a steak bake at Greggs. Hubby loves the cheese & onion. I still haven’t tried the vegan sausage roll so look forward to your opinions on that!
The vegan sausage roll will shock you! In a good way. 👍
The vegan sausage rolls are gorgeous, little less greasy than the meat version. I actually preferred the vegan steak bake to the regular too. Hope they bring it back again in the future.
Steak bakes are nice, but do not eat in your car prior to a meeting! Also, have wipes handy to wipe the gravy off your scalded chin 😀
I have a Vegan Sausage you can try 20cm
I must admit, I'm not a vegan but the vegan sausage roll is delicious and surprisingly meaty lol
the best thing at greggs in my opinion is the caramel custard donut 😍 id never go for any other donut except the yum yums omg those are great too

Greg's sell 2.5 million sausage rolls a week and 1 million coffees. I love their Belgium buns.

But how many people have heart attacks by eating them on a daily basis? It is basically fat disguised as food.

I think you worked Greggs out. It's not the best food, in fact far from it- but it's cheap and they are ubiquitous- you can find a Greggs anywhere and for grabbing a quick breakfast or lunch for very little expenditure they are extremely handy.
Favourite item- Sausage rolls, Dteak bake, Yum yum- and at Christmas time a festive bake.
Steak Bake, Chicken Bake, vegan saugsage rolls, ice custard slice and of course more sausage rolls
I'm sure this has been commented before, but:
The secret to understanding British people's affection for Greggs is that it's a guilty pleasure.
Best is either a steak slice, rich beefy gravy and good chunks of tender meat or, the chicken slice. Up in Tyneside, Greggs bake a local delicacy, Stotty cake
The Cornish Bakery have outlets in 42 cities and their Traditional Pasties are on point!
The pizza is the best when it's fresh out of the oven. People mostly get the baked goods for a nice quick on the go breakfast or lunch
I'm totally baffled at what people see in Greggs? Virtually every high street baker has better warm savouries and a good local bakery will always trump Gregg's ' mass produced rubbish.
Agreed. We had a wonderful family-run bakery which made a wider range of vastly superior products, but it went to the wall after a branch of Greggs opened in our town.
high street bakeries couldn't compete with supermarket bakeries. Greggs hasn't been a proper bakery since 2013-2015, bread etc.
They are nice and cheap. I dont think anyone I'm the uk will say theyvare the best bakers
@@paulelroy6650 I'm not convinced with that? Our local bakery is the same price and very good....Greggs came to my town quite recently and are not doing brilliant... Seems to be youngster's who have bought the marketing?
Vegan sausage roll and Totteham cake cheese vegetable pasty . Plain glazed donuts 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️ loved the vid
The best thing at Greggs is the festive bake that come out for Christmas yummy
My three favourite Greggs things are sausage roll, cheese and potato pasties and .... Yum yums !!! ... mmmmm
The vegetable pasty is nice as a bit of pepper in it also the beef and vegetable pasty the chicken is nice the sausage and bean pasty too
Sausage Roll, Sausage and Beans melt, Steak Bake and the Bacon and Cheese turnover for me 😁, and a vegan sausage roll for my daughter! 😂
Greggs is best known for the sausage roll, steak bake and sausage cheese and bean. All solid choices.
chicken bakes, sausage, cheese and bean melt with a caramel custard donut are my go to items!
Those all sound pretty tasty.
Steak bake is a must, the cheese and bacon turn over is also pretty good, and you must try the Belgian buns and apple danish. I prefer Greggs coffee over starbucks any day of the week.
If you go back to Greg's you should try a mince pie or a cheese pastie. One of the best things that they do is a cheese and bacon wrap.
Beef and onion slice and of course their lovely Cornish pasties.
If you return, go for the steak bake. If it's fresh out of the oven, give it some time to cool down.
Yum Yums
The cheese and bacon slice
they used to do a bacon and cheese pasty type thing, not sure if they still do it. it was very tasty, nice buttery pastry and just the right amount of bacon and cheese.
The sausage and bean bake, tuna crunch baguette and their yum yums are my favourite 😍😍
I can see you guys where in the Town of Wells! Greggs are famous for the sausage rolls and steak bakes, great to just grab one and eat on the go lol
the sausage roll is mainly famous because of the song but the true staple at a Greggs is a steak bake and a yum yum.
American here and Greggs goes HAM!
The Sausage, Cheese and Bean bake is a must try. It is best thing Greggs do by far.
Vegan sausage rolls, steak bake, cheese and bean melt are all good choices. Are you going to try Toby Carvery while you’re in the UK?
My favourite from childhood is cheese and onion pasty. Second sausage, bean and cheese melt. Big shout outs to sausage roll, breakfast rolls and margarita pizza. Mexican wrap is pretty good too
Yea! I’m from the UK and even I think greggs food has a school canteen vibe about it lol x
Can't believe you were in Wells! I would of come and said hello 👋
