The Masked Demon Spencer was the head of 1st party studios. Their output today is as a direct result of his policies. As head of Xbox today, he's stabilised the brand in the US, but worldwide, Xbox is dropping further behind. Worse, they don't seem to have any presence, or intent, to expand into these markets. In short 3/4's of the worldwide gaming market is not even on their radar, and Xbox not on said gamers radar.

However, almost everything MS did after that was just bringing more and more shitty practices into the industry, milking their franchises & and trying to shove consoles as a home media device first and foremost instead of games. Im very hyped about the Xbox Scorpio. The Xbox One is a great console and has many great games like Forza Horizon 3 the best racing game this gen. Also backwards compatibility for Xbox360 games has been excellent.

Looking at the past two years especially its clear which console won the GAMERS heart. The Return of the King AKA Greatness Awaits. Gravity Rush 2, Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona, GT Sport, Crash Bandicoot, the sequel to the best platformer of all time (Knack), Days Gone, God of FUCKING War, Spiderman, The Last of Us Part II, Death Stranding. Because what matters are GAMES, GAMES AND FUCKING GAMES! And Sony gets that like no other. Meanwhile Microsoft is only obsessed with their most powerful console ever made....

However, Xbox marketed as a "all-in-one" machine, were sony from the start marketed the games, which no surprise resonated more with gamers. I think you are half right and half wrong ... I agree re the philosophy argument but at the beginning of this generation (as in the first 3 years) Sony had none of these games he listed with the exception of Knack! Knack ... really? Consoles are driven by multiplats and the best place to get the best quality multiplats is the PS4 today .... that won't be the case when Scorpio drops and if MS E3 also brings the new games and the best multiplats then that could bring a significant momentum shift ... not saying it will be enough for MS to win, I don't think it will, but all they have to do is shift the momentum ..... to counter this Sony come out in a years time and copy MS by announcing "Project Neo 2.0" AKA PS5 and then here we go all over again! It sold really well and a lot f people bought ps4 for that game so yeah it is a game changer and Bloodborne 2 announcement will be huge.I know it didnt push uncharted 4 numbers but gamers respect quality and Bloodborne was a damn near masterpiece.

Biscuitine Trisket because Sony already released Ratchet and Clank, MLB, and The Witness earlier that year which were very well received, and Uncharted 4 which was the highest rated title and one of if not the best game of 2016. Microsoft needed to release more titles since they didn't have a single relevant title the first 9 months outside of Inside which was ported to PS4 a couple months later.
Ratchet and Uncharted were supposed to release holiday so they are at best catching up to Xbox holiday releases Halo 5, Forza Motorsport 6, Gears of War Ultimate, Killer Instinct 2 Ultimate, and Rare Replay

You can use all the "what ifs" and excuses you want, doesn't change the fact that Sony always spaces out their exclusives, and typically releases most in the first half of the year, while Microsoft releases them all in the last 3-4 months. Rare is a bunch of ports of 30 year old games, gears ultimate is a graphical enhancement, and I didn't even know a killer instinct remaster came out in 2015, so can't comment on that. Just to play your little game, I guess I can compare Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, Ratchet and Clank, until Dawn, and rocket League to that 2015 lineup you listed, since all of those PS4 titles either released or were intended to release in 2015. Guess what? Ps4's lineup wins again.

I'd argue that Play Anywhere is great for people with PCs and consoles and super consumer friendly. This episode felt a little like regurgitating info we already know, rather than Colin's take on things. (Sales figures, strong Xbox is good for industry, Sunday E3 is strategic etc.) They can all be great though and I still enjoyed it. I'm also really happy that Colin loves making these so much. Microsoft!!! Just release the Xbox two. Let us use our xbox one controllers and peripherals, and carry our digital library over. Who the hell is gonna buy a new Xbox one primarily for 4k when the reality is a lot of people don't even have 4k TVs? Who is gonna fork out 400-500 dollars fir a Scorpio then a further 500 dollars for an oculus headset? Nobody. They'll just stick with ps4 or xb1, or they'll just get a PC at that price point. Scorpio, as it's being touted as right now, makes NO sense. It seems like a niche device. New games will entice people....the leap is huge ...1.8 teraflops to 6 teraflops!?!? Just show us a bunch of amazing looking exclusive games and we will be happy, as long as you provide us with an upgrade/trade in program. Release the Xbox 2. Take a hit on hardware profit for a bit. But get a head start on the competition. That's the smart thing to do. Imagine if the Scorpio was revealed, and it's the Xbox two, and it has exclusive games like Perfect Dark, Splinter Cell and Ryse 2. And they look as incredible as they should, running on a system nearly 4 times more powerful than Xbox one?!?! Who wouldn't be blown away? Plus it's backwards compatible with xbox one/360 games.....and lets users play the pc versions of xbox one titles. If that's not what the Scorpio is, then it's a missed opportunity. I already have an xbox one, PC and ps4. And I'd buy one day one if it had incredible looking exclusives.

Great episode. We both agree that Microsoft's move to make their first party titles available on PC is a strange move business-wise. As a consumer, however, it's hard to complain that I have more options in how I play these titles. If anything I see this as a Phil Spencer move to give more power to the players on the Xbox/Windows platform. A lot of this plays into Microsoft's initial plans to get into the console business. They wanted to make Windows more ubiquitous before Sony took over the living room.
Colin, this is by far the best one you have done. I don't really know why, but your delivery, transitions, sentence structure, and graphics were all spot on. Maybe it's your comfort with the show now or maybe you are having a great day, but this tone and delivery was perfect, well done. About the topic though, I just can't see how Microsoft will get me, a PC owner, on board for Scorpio. Scorpio boasts more power and the problem with that is that speaks to the PC market more than anything. Why would I buy this, if I can just upgrade my PC for around the same price.. presumably? I think Microsoft has a lot to prove with the "Xbox name" and a lot to reveal about what this PC strategy is building to, otherwise I can't see Scorpio taking off in a big way.
As an Xbox Fanboy, this video was spot on. A point often lost on everyone is just because the PS4 won this generation doesn't mean that the Xbox one was a failure. The only point I disagree with is Sea of Thieves. That game looks incredible.

Have to say I really like how Microsoft is moving towards developing for PC too. I've been a long time Xbox fan and made the move to PC way back. I think although microsoft really dropped the ball this gen they're setting themselves up nicely and probably have a very bright future ahead of them.
I like this show, and I look forward to it every week, which is why I want it to keep getting better and have these suggestions for you Colin, should you choose to care: - Have a tighter shot of yourself. You're too far away from the camera and look tiny compared to the pictures you have next to you on your right - Speaking of the pictures, some are good, but others are low quality and bring the overall look of the show down. You don't need so many/a new one for every statement. Just keep the main ones, and keep them high quality. I get that some of them are meant to be funny, but this show has a professional and glossy feel to it 90% of the time, and the meme type pics that you throw up sometimes don't match. All in all, can't wait for the next episode and love what you're doing!
Scorpio is going to be huge! Play Station won out this gen because of the cheaper price, and the slight power edge especially in 3rd party titles. Sony software has, let's be honest, released Uncharted and the upcoming game Horizon. The rest of their titles are niche and are 5 years out. Exclusives are just for the hardcore fans, and consoles sell more to the casuals. Casuals often go to the most powerful console and better mutiplats. I can't wait for Scorpio.

Casuals go for the most popular console and word of mouth given by the hardcore. PS1 & PS2 both dominated and were not most powerful, PS3 was most powerful and just barely beat out the 360.

Now it's the hardcore that influence the casuals. "I just play CoD. Where's Jimmy playing so I can play with him?" That's where PlayStation holds the edge.
When it comes to the many things Colin mentioned one stands clear which was the factor of playstation needing healthy competition. Like we saw from last generation PlayStation knew they needed more to show cause of the insanely high price and the year gap that xbox had made. Because of that competition it shows us today what PlayStation has in the way of exclusive games and first party studios.
Colin, these videos are always fantastically well-written, researched, and executed! Can I make one small suggestion? Sometimes the pacing of your speech feels a bit fast which causes me to lose out on key points you're making and comes off sounding a bit too "scripted". A bit slower paced speaking could make your great points be even more effective! Haha thanks for allowing a platform for people to share their unsolicited advice!
I agree with not wanting half step consoles. If I cared about power, I'd buy a PC. And that doesn't even count the faff involved with PC gaming, whereas with consoles it's usually pop the disc in (wait for the update) and play.

The big issue with Sonys first party is that they all moved to 5/6 year dev times, wheres MS' first party are all 2/3 year dev times, so you get twice as many games.

No,i think Microsoft will be alright without gaming in their portfolio,not because they're bad at it (I actually like alot of Xbox exclusives,which isn't alot but that's ok) Even the thought of the Xbox had to be brought to the attention on Bill Gates back then. Microsoft never needed the Xbox brand then,and they don't need it now.Why? Microsoft's true problem is their corporate philosophy and focus from the very beginning. Sony's priority is a GAMES console, Microsoft being media console. And it clearly shows. Looking at the past two years especially its clear which console won the GAMERS heart. The Return of the King AKA Greatness Awaits.
Gravity Rush 2, Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona, GT Sport, Crash Bandicoot, the sequel to the best platformer of all time (Knack), Days Gone, God of FUCKING War, Spiderman, The Last of Us Part II, Death Stranding. Because what matters are GAMES, GAMES AND FUCKING GAMES! And Sony gets that like no other.

You confusing Corporate philosophy with marketing. Both companies corporate philosophy in broad terms is simply to achieve profit. However, Xbox marketed as a "all-in-one" machine, were sony from the start marketed the games, which no surprise resonated more with gamers. I get the point your trying to make, but I don't think you give enough credit to xbox one for the games they have, and how they have really turned around the perception of the console since Phil Spencer joined. Now, I don't know if your serious or tolling, 'Knack as the best plat-former ever' seems suspicious, but I can't argue with the games you've listed that there will ever be a bad year of games on the PS4.

I think you are half right and half wrong ... I agree re the philosophy argument but at the beginning of this generation (as in the first 3 years) Sony had none of these games he listed with the exception of Knack! Knack ... really? Consoles are driven by multiplats and the best place to get the best quality multiplats is the PS4 today .... that won't be the case when Scorpio drops and if MS E3 also brings the new games and the best multiplats then that could bring a significant momentum shift ... not saying it will be enough for MS to win, I don't think it will, but all they have to do is shift the momentum ..... to counter this Sony come out in a years time and copy MS by announcing "Project Neo 2.0" AKA PS5 and then here we go all over again! I definitely agree with Colin's statement that the industry needs a strong competitive MS

Biscuitine Trisket because Sony already released Ratchet and Clank, MLB, and The Witness earlier that year which were very well received, and Uncharted 4 which was the highest rated title and one of if not the best game of 2016. Microsoft needed to release more titles since they didn't have a single relevant title the first 9 months outside of Inside which was ported to PS4 a couple months later.
The Witness was only a timed exclusive. It's on xbox one now.
Ratchet and Uncharted were supposed to release holiday so they are at best catching up to Xbox holiday releases Halo 5, Forza Motorsport 6, Gears of War Ultimate, Killer Instinct 2 Ultimate, and Rare Replay

You can use all the "what ifs" and excuses you want, doesn't change the fact that Sony always spaces out their exclusives, and typically releases most in the first half of the year, while Microsoft releases them all in the last 3-4 months. Rare is a bunch of ports of 30 year old games, gears ultimate is a graphical enhancement, and I didn't even know a killer instinct remaster came out in 2015, so can't comment on that.
Just to play your little game, I guess I can compare Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, Ratchet and Clank, until Dawn, and rocket League to that 2015 lineup you listed, since all of those PS4 titles either released or were intended to release in 2015. Guess what? Ps4's lineup wins again.

I'd argue that Play Anywhere is great for people with PCs and consoles and super consumer friendly. This episode felt a little like regurgitating info we already know, rather than Colin's take on things. (Sales figures, strong Xbox is good for industry, Sunday E3 is strategic etc.) They can all be great though and I still enjoyed it. I'm also really happy that Colin loves making these so much. Microsoft!!! Just release the Xbox two. Let us use our xbox one controllers and peripherals, and carry our digital library over. Who the hell is gonna buy a new Xbox one primarily for 4k when the reality is a lot of people don't even have 4k TVs? Who is gonna fork out 400-500 dollars fir a Scorpio then a further 500 dollars for an oculus headset? Nobody. They'll just stick with ps4 or xb1, or they'll just get a PC at that price point. Scorpio, as it's being touted as right now, makes NO sense. It seems like a niche device. New games will entice people....the leap is huge ...1.8 teraflops to 6 teraflops!?!? Just show us a bunch of amazing looking exclusive games and we will be happy, as long as you provide us with an upgrade/trade in program. Release the Xbox 2. Take a hit on hardware profit for a bit. But get a head start on the competition. That's the smart thing to do.
Imagine if the Scorpio was revealed, and it's the Xbox two, and it has exclusive games like Perfect Dark, Splinter Cell and Ryse 2. And they look as incredible as they should, running on a system nearly 4 times more powerful than Xbox one?!?! Who wouldn't be blown away?
Plus it's backwards compatible with xbox one/360 games.....and lets users play the pc versions of xbox one titles.
If that's not what the Scorpio is, then it's a missed opportunity. I already have an xbox one, PC and ps4. And I'd buy one day one if it had incredible looking exclusives.

I feel like xbox has switched from a console system to a Microsoft gaming ecosystem between Windows 10 and xbox one.
Great episode. We both agree that Microsoft's move to make their first party titles available on PC is a strange move business-wise. As a consumer, however, it's hard to complain that I have more options in how I play these titles. If anything I see this as a Phil Spencer move to give more power to the players on the Xbox/Windows platform.
A lot of this plays into Microsoft's initial plans to get into the console business. They wanted to make Windows more ubiquitous before Sony took over the living room.
Colin, this is by far the best one you have done. I don't really know why, but your delivery, transitions, sentence structure, and graphics were all spot on. Maybe it's your comfort with the show now or maybe you are having a great day, but this tone and delivery was perfect, well done.
About the topic though, I just can't see how Microsoft will get me, a PC owner, on board for Scorpio. Scorpio boasts more power and the problem with that is that speaks to the PC market more than anything. Why would I buy this, if I can just upgrade my PC for around the same price.. presumably? I think Microsoft has a lot to prove with the "Xbox name" and a lot to reveal about what this PC strategy is building to, otherwise I can't see Scorpio taking off in a big way.
As an Xbox Fanboy, this video was spot on. A point often lost on everyone is just because the PS4 won this generation doesn't mean that the Xbox one was a failure.
The only point I disagree with is Sea of Thieves. That game looks incredible.

Have to say I really like how Microsoft is moving towards developing for PC too. I've been a long time Xbox fan and made the move to PC way back. I think although microsoft really dropped the ball this gen they're setting themselves up nicely and probably have a very bright future ahead of them.
I like this show, and I look forward to it every week, which is why I want it to keep getting better and have these suggestions for you Colin, should you choose to care:
- Have a tighter shot of yourself. You're too far away from the camera and look tiny compared to the pictures you have next to you on your right
- Speaking of the pictures, some are good, but others are low quality and bring the overall look of the show down. You don't need so many/a new one for every statement. Just keep the main ones, and keep them high quality. I get that some of them are meant to be funny, but this show has a professional and glossy feel to it 90% of the time, and the meme type pics that you throw up sometimes don't match.
All in all, can't wait for the next episode and love what you're doing!

Scorpio is going to be huge! Play Station won out this gen because of the cheaper price, and the slight power edge especially in 3rd party titles. Sony software has, let's be honest, released Uncharted and the upcoming game Horizon. The rest of their titles are niche and are 5 years out. Exclusives are just for the hardcore fans, and consoles sell more to the casuals. Casuals often go to the most powerful console and better mutiplats. I can't wait for Scorpio.

Perked up when I heard "A Conversation with Colin Was Right" As much as I love the Colinquisition nothing holds a candle to A Conversation with Colin.
When it comes to the many things Colin mentioned one stands clear which was the factor of playstation needing healthy competition. Like we saw from last generation PlayStation knew they needed more to show cause of the insanely high price and the year gap that xbox had made. Because of that competition it shows us today what PlayStation has in the way of exclusive games and first party studios.

Sometimes the pacing of your speech feels a bit fast which causes me to lose out on key points you're making and comes off sounding a bit too "scripted". A bit slower paced speaking could make your great points be even more effective! Haha thanks for allowing a platform for people to share their unsolicited advice!
I agree with not wanting half step consoles. If I cared about power, I'd buy a PC. And that doesn't even count the faff involved with PC gaming, whereas with consoles it's usually pop the disc in (wait for the update) and play.

The big issue with Sonys first party is that they all moved to 5/6 year dev times, wheres MS' first party are all 2/3 year dev times, so you get twice as many games.
