I always thought Splatoon characters would be a great fit for these extreme sports titles from Nintendo. The IP needs a spin-off that deviates from the mainline games.
Yeah, even with the single player modes I feel like a lot of casual players are scared off by Splatoon due to the competitive and pretty intense nature of the game. It needs a way to be experienced by a wider audience.
Mario, Princess Peach, and Luigi were all playable guest characters in the EA-published snowboarding game *SSX on Tour* for Nintendo GameCube. Notably, all of the trio's character sound effects were replaced by sound effects from the early 2D Mario titles.
You mentioned 1080 snowboard and I’m suddenly reminded that Ubisoft was originally going to release a snowboard game at the beginning of the Switch’s lifespan but got quietly cancelled
I think the main issue with games like Wave Race, F-Zero, Pilot Wings, 1080 and Star Fox is their arcadey nature, which is probably from Nintendo's perspective more akin to the Sega-type flash-in-the-pan experience we grew accustomed to over the decades. Hopefully they can find a way to give them all legs for progressive innovation.
True. Feels more like something that'd be part of a side-mode in a Sports-type compilation game, rather than something that can stand out on it's own as an actual game.
@@goranisacson2502 it's a shame if they can't make them work as distinct IPs tho. Maybe they could make those sort of games into expansion pack content. I can't see 1080 or wave race making the cut at all though sadly, especially as the characters aren't Smashable and the gameplay is hard to put a Nintendo signature on.
Galaxy 2 being remastered by NST as a mid-gen Switch 2 game is such a brillant shout. There have been some rumours circulating recently about it maybe being out next year - but then again when haven’t there been😭 If we don’t get a direct sequel for the new launch year 3D Mario I think this would definitely be the next best thing!
realistically if a Galaxy 2 remaster happens, it would most likely release on Switch 1 and it would be done the same way as the first game in 3D All-Stars.
I feel like 1080 missed its opportunity for comeback with the Wii Fit balance board. It would have been the perfect gameplay. Plus it might be hard nowadays to have a game that is 'just' snowboarding when something like Riders Republic offers it in combination with lots of other downhill sports. 1080 would have to be so good at snowboarding that it completely outclasses the competition or add other sports which dilutes the value of the 1080 name. I think WaveRace has a better chance of return.
I think the clear next step for NST is making sequels to Kirby TV Channel, Animal Crossing Calculator, and CrossworDS/Crosswords Plus /s I think you make some good points regarding what NST could be doing next, but of them, I think the only ones that really feel sensible to me are them making another Mario vs. Donkey Kong, continuing to work with EPD 8 (which, hey - maybe they were involved with their 2D game that's likely Donkey Kong), and codeveloping another smaller project with an indie studio. That's not to say they can't tackle larger projects on their own. But I can't see them taking on F-Zero, for instance. I think part of the problem there is that there's no obvious candidate that can make a new entry building off of GX - Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is a notoriously efficient studio, so I could see them maybe handling a GX remaster (there was also a bit of murmuring regarding Next Level Games handling one), but they seem to be too preoccupied with Like a Dragon, Super Monkey Ball, and the odd game like Judgment to take the reins again. But I don't think there's a clear successor that could manage to live up to GX's fairly extensive cutscenes or soundtrack, if nothing else. I think there's a good chance Vitei's pitch was shot down in part because they're a small studio, and NST isn't that much larger, but that's speculation. Wave Race is easier to see NST handling again, but I think there are a few other candidates for picking that series up. Monster Games is out of the picture, seemingly, but I think Velan Studios has the potential to produce similar work for Nintendo (e.g. Excite, Pilotwings) - if they aren't able to revive the Vicarious Visions DK pitch, given Velan was effectively established by the founders of that studio after Activision shut the project down. And for a dark horse pick...Raw Thrills did bring back Cruis'n under license from Nintendo, though they self-published Blast on Switch, and while their prevalence in arcades suggests they're still making that business model work for them (Blast only came to Switch because of COVID, essentially), if they ever need to expand into the console space more fully, then Wave Race would be a good fit for them. As for NST...I've said it before on here, but I think Captain Toad 2 is a highly likely venture for them given all the love the Switch port of the game received. It'd be *more* of a budget title (probably $40-$50), but still a significant release for them. And if Nintendo ever wants to revisit Mole Mania, which I believe you've mentioned before, they're probably the best fit outside of the indie space (e.g. Draknek, who've made a name for themselves with Sokobans).
Mario vs donkey kong series is so underrated, it just needs some more innovation, tipping stars just failed due to miiverse discontinuing and the main levels being kinda boring, but the online mode was genuinely fun Mini-land mayhem is the best in the series, I would love to see that gameplay expanded on, not many people see the point or the potential it's kinda saddening
NST might be a good fit for Pilotwings. It shares some of that tech demo-y, extreme sports DNA with Wave Race and it'd make for a great Switch 2 launch title.
I JUST learned that they developed Ridge Racer 64/DS. This now makes at least 2 Namco titles developed by Nintendo, the other being Pac-Man VS for the GameCube.

Question not related to the video: how much do you think the ps2 REALLY sold? The number is highly disputed
Since I understand they kept making PS2s for quite a long time, 160 million feels credible but there's no way to know for sure as far as I can see.
If Sony pulls the goal post snd repositions PS2 as having sold 165 million, youll know they actually only sold 155 million.
