What a fantastic, in-depth exploration of the Aurignacian culture. It is a great service to arm-chair archeologists to see the technological differences between these continuous ancient peoples in order for us to understand that the "stone age" isn't just one long continuous, homogenic industry and culture. While technological variation was much slower than what we experience now (remember there was no wide-spread rapid way to transfer innovations that occurred) improvements and innovations did clearly happen, and were also responses to extreme climatic changes as well. Your work is very interesting, in-depth and arrayed with as many illustrations as have survived. In short, your work is not only educational but is very entertaining, and beautiful as well. I am very much looking forward to the next three parts of this series. Thank you so much for all your hard work and attention to detail. It is clear that an enormous amount of research went into the making of this documentary.
This is an excellent long-format factual documentary that was clearly well-researched, and [happily!] is without filler fluff to pad the content. ❤ one of my most favorite books is ' Clan of the Cave Bear' ...which is a series that is set exactly in this timeline when both neanderthals and modern humans were sharing the world. Excellent read. Well researched for accuracy of the lifestyle portrayed. I could get lost for months in those books!! Theres a movie,too...with Darryl Hanna as the star character😊❤ I love history! 😊
I read that book as a yute. It really fired my imagination. I think at the time I was thinking more about the protagonist, a hot blonde teenage girl. It just so happened my girlfriend at the time was exactly that girl, but in modern day. That title brought back so many memories of her, my first true love. Sighhhhhh....
it's a pretty good read. until it isn't at all a good read as far as historical accuracy. after i realized the author had this one person inventing everything, cast other humanoid species as lesser, and never developed more characters; i lost interest.
Clan of the Cave Bear is decently written and an interesting read and speculation, but it is not accurate to the time period and takes some liberties about portraying the differences between Neanderthals and Sapiens Sapiens. The whole limited emotions (incapable of crying, smiling, or laughing??) and “can only speak limited language” is a leap when Neanderthals have genetic and skeletal markers of being capable of speech and language as well as us. Plus the whole lack of consent culture and subsequent SA scene the protagonist is subjected to was a choice that I’m not certain was handled the best way such a storyline could have been handled So it’s not bad, just flawed and outdated
@@Joyride37It is fiction, not a dissertation. And there is no bigger sin than trying to rewrite history and retro-project temporary culture ideals that take prior works out of context. As an artist myself, the art they made fascinates me more than anything else. The “movement” paintings at Chauvet look like pages from sketchbooks, where you will start a line, it’s not quite right, you start another right next to it, or you draw over top of other drawings, with the reason being practice, not to create a finished work. For sure artists were revered. I remember when I was a kid, other kids standing around watching me draw, as if I were doing something like magic. The question of there being a reason for the art, I wonder if we will ever know?
