  • Today I want to talk about a few things a lot of women have in their lives or choose to do, that I have decluttered and stopped doing. By choosing an intentional minimalist lifestyle I evaluate the things and routines in my life and declutter the ones that do not ad value to me.
If you have watched the video and wonder why I have makeup: It is not mine ;)

Yes finally an eco-minimalist youtuber who doesn't just show safety razors and natural make-up but actually questions the whole point of shaving and make-up in the first place! I don't mean to put down those people who do these things, it's everyone's own choice. It's just inspiring to have someone break the mould and give women OPTIONS!

    Great video!
    Decluttered habits:
    1 - makeup
    2 - shopping (unless well thought-out)
    3 - shaving
    4 - dressing up
5 - trying to be particularly female (or feminine)
    6 - caring about hair
7 - caring what other think about me (esp. those I don't know)

Hello life tidy! I watch your channel also and I find a lot of inspiration as well! And I agree that she is someone who is surprisingly able to delve past the superficial layers of minimalism and get to the heart and soul of it. Especially for someone so young. I’m 56 and just beginning to understand these things even though I’ve been affected by them my whole life!

I stopped wearing makeup after I realized that it had no perks. Feeling more confident? Nope. Do i love my face more when it's covered with makeup? Nope, it's not my face anymore, it's a painting. Men liking you better, any relationships started due to makeup? Nope. Time-saving? Quite on the contrary.

I agree, however I do think that their isn’t anything wrong with make up, if it gives you joy then you should totally do it! And I think in that way it’s valuable.

I like never wear make up. I never really got into it. I wore 3 times as a young teen and my face felt so claustrophobic that I never really wore it again. I can't imagine how much money I've saved never buying make up!

I never owned any makeup ever , i am 20. I am so glad i realised very early on that makeup does not add any value to my life . I think this is the case for many women , but they still wear makeup in order to keep up with society's expectations, their definition of a " women "....

We need more people like you, who question all the "normal" rituals we do in our daily lives just because that's what society expects from us or "everyone" does that. We need to figure out what's right for ourselves, and what impact we want to have on the world.

Life is so free when we can stop all of these things. Why do things to our bodies that we don't even enjoy? I have not shaved in 5 years after I started asking questions as to why I was doing it. I also stopped wearing make up or worrying do much about my outer appearance, hair etc.. I became mindful of WHY I did things, and if it just came down to social programming, I made changes.. I feel once we try to let go of vanity, we become free.. I agree, we can better be a vessel for the services to others, or the planet or whatever we find valuable, thus bringing meaning and depth to our lives 💚🙏 thank you for speaking up about these small shifts in consciousness that make a big difference 💚🙏...
I don't feel that being kind or gentle is necessarily a female thing though. This is something everyone is capable of when the occasion requires it.. My sons talk sweetly to animals and babies, just as I would.. They are loving and affectionate.. And also sometimes loud and crazy 😃😝! .. just as I can be.. We all have Yin and Yang.. balancing the two is a nice aim.. 😊
    Thanks again 💚🙏

Being a performer makes it very difficult to get rid of some of the things I might look at as excess. Makeup for the stage, black formal attire for choir concerts, different styles of shoes for dancing, and so many art supplies. During quarantine these things have started to feel burdensome because I am no longer using them on a regular basis and feel some anxiety having them around. But I have to remind myself i *do* need and use these things when "normal" life is happening. It's definitely been a struggle trying to declutter what I perceive to be excess and having to remind myself that some things are actually necessary for my performing life and that they are not clutter and excess. So learning to focus on the things that truly are no longer of value has definitely been a struggle and a journey. Learning to come to terms and be honest with myself. 😊

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 роки тому +11

I can totally understand that this might be a difficult situation! I used to perform on stages (I was a youth circus artist) as well and the makeup on my thumbnail is my boyfriends because he has been performing on stages as well (just not recently...) Sometimes we know what comes in the future and sometimes we don't. I was ruthless with decluttering for the past few years and I am sure that at some point I might have to buy things again that I decluttered.... But I definitely think it is a good thing to reflect on our lives, how they are different now and how they will look in the future when our life becomes more "normal" again... ☺

I agree with T ARs comment.....perhaps designate an area if you have space for your work and related supplies, box and label as required. And keep your "real you" things in the usual places. If those things are needed for your work etc, no need to let them go.

I never used to wear makeup every day, but I wore it more often than not. I quit wearing makeup in February of this year but I kept some on hand for "special events". I put some makeup on for a wedding back in October but immediately disliked how it felt and looked, so I threw it in the garbage right then and there. I do wear earrings though...I can't give up my little bit of sparkle!

I love everything about this video and your vibe. I couldn't agree more with what you were saying about not wanting to have to act like a woman. I think it's silly that we're supposed to wear makeup and bras and shave our legs and do all these "gender specific" tasks as a woman because it's the norm in society. It really is the most freeing feeling when you stop caring what people think about you. I'm not 100% there but am well on my way and this video was another push in the right direction. Thank you!!

Wow this really resonated with me. I also stopped makeup, stopped unnecessary shopping, stopped getting dressed up. I still shave cause during the summer and style my hair on special occasions as those things bring me joy. I spent a few years cutting back and focusing on what mattered to me but I still just didn’t feel confident. Then I had my firstborn 9 months ago and that really sealed the deal for me. My hair, clothing... they mean nothing to me. Being loved by my son in my rawest “ugliest” form definitely changed me for the better. I have never been more confident. Great video, thank you!

But 4 example if I go to the grocery store where no one will be close, I don't shave. Gladly my boyfriend doesn't care about body hair, im very grateful for that.

I do have lots of visible body hair and while you choose to not shave you still consider yourself "lucky" not to have very visible hair. If it should become a normal thing in our society for woman to not shave, then having less or less visible body hair should not be seen as lucky, both having less or more hair, shaving it or not should just be normal. It's just a thought, I know you didn't mean it that way, I just wanted to point it out, because hearing that made me feel a little bad. I love your videos and think you are an amazing person!

I would love to have a tea with you and chat for hours. I really understand how you feel and what you do. I am much older and I always felt the same, always listening to people telling me that I should wear high heels for events, make up...and many other things. I always feel that I am weird, different...because none of my friends or other girls where like me. It has been, it is still sometimes difficult because the people judges you for your aspect and they get a wrong idea, but now I just accept it. My husband loves me no matter how I look and I love him to let me be me. Thats all I need. Take care!!!!❤️❤️❤️

I think learning to love yourself, your authentic self, is definitely part of the journey of minimalism, as well as learning to try to not let others judgement or unsolicited opinions take up your mental space. It all comes back to what are your values and passions and priorities in life, and then discarding the unimportant. Keep doing you

„Haters gonna hate” :( it is a sad truth. That’s why I love you motivational speech at the end of this video 🥰🥰🥰🥰 we need to concentrate on our goals and keep saving the planet! People will always judge us no matter what we are doing. So why not do things that we love and we do care about! I don’t wear make up as well 🥰 only from time to time. I have a short boyish hair that I love! If I listened to others I wouldn’t cut my long hair as almost everyone was saying “keep them!” But my head my problem hahaha so keep doing what’s you doing! One of the random few benefits of my various medical condition is that I do not really grow body hair and what little I do have is super fine, so I have never actually shaved. My sisters are actually jealous of this one random positive lol. I still wear makeup on special occasions but I have reduced myself to owning one of everything as it takes so long to actually use up a make up. Really like hearing your views in regard to topics and I think its great that you are self-confident :) :) I was very self-conscious when I was younger but am slowly becoming more confident in myself and slowly learning not to care what others think :) :)

Excellent video, Lia. I stopped shaving a couple of years ago, though I have lots of dark hair so it's really noticeable with me, but I.don't.care. I also stopped wearing make up, maybe a bit of mascara and lipstick when going out but honestly, I don't go anywhere dressy anymore. With my hair, I put myself on a challenge a few years ago to see how much it would grow in one year. That was very challenging for me and I enjoyed getting it cut a year later, but now I am into my 3rd year without a hair cut, just put it up to get it off my neck and it's so much easier than having to fuss with a style.

Your videos are really nice and relaxed and I appreciate that you don't put pressure on people to change :) I have so much stuff that I definetly don't count as a minimalist, but I have tried to get rid of exessive things for a couple of years. I haven't really used make-up in 10 years (I'm about 30 now) and most of it was actually given to me by my mom to play with as a child :D I remember thinking already as a teenager that I don't want to wear make-up every day, because I don't want people to think of that as my normal appearance. I want to look extra special if I wear make-up, instead of people getting worried of me etc. if I don't wear it. I also haven't shaved my legs or armpits in at least 6 or 7 years and the only person who had a problem with it was my mom :D I still wear dresses and skirts and shorts in the summer and no one else has ever said anything. And my body hair is dark and strong :D I just realized at some point that I don't feel the need to shave for myself (it just makes my skin irritated and takes up time, money and energy) and none of my partners have had a problem with it either, so why bother. I actually wish I had a proper bush in my panties like I did when I was a teenager, but being sexually active seems to make me go bald x')

I assume, the dudes who couldn't take the "no recognizable hairs" leg in front of the camera gave the 5 👎🏻🤦🏼‍♀️ 🤣
I don't shave my legs either. I'm too lazy and it's actually warmer in winter. I only shaved them twice in the last 3 years and that was for childbirth and doctors appointments, because (not kidding!) I'm constantly being looked at in a weird way by friggin medical stuff, and it's been so annoyingly obvious and disruptive tbh... So I really appreciate that more people are trying to normalize body hair. Because _adult women grow it_ 🤷🏼‍♀️ Get over it, people. It's been around for 4 million years! 😜

I've stopped wearing make-up and jewelry a couple of years ago (I got gifted a rather simple bracelet this year and I wore it three or four times but it's not really a part of my life and usually I forget I own it). I actually like wearing clothes that are a bit more chic sometimes. But since as of right now I work in childcare where I go outside a lot and I get dirty all the time my everyday clothes are simple, practical and comfortable. One of the things I noticed is that people misjudge my age a lot and I think me not wearing make-up, jewelry or certain types of clothes has a lot to do with it. I'm 29 and people with asked me if I'm the new intern or if I just started my education to work in childcare (which you can do at any age of course) because they think I'm much younger. Sometimes people judge me ten years younger.
I only discovered your channel recently and looking at you trough a couple of vlogs made me realize how much I'm used to women around me looking a certain way, dressing up, wearing make-up everyday etc. I sat there and I thought: Oh, that's what I look like to people. Not in a good or bad way. Just like realizing what it's like to see a woman not wearing make-up when we're so used to it. It was interesting and eye opening for me. And it was also very re-assuring of me not doing certain things or looking certain ways. One because I do think you look beautiful the way I see you in your videos. Two it made me re-realize the subconscious pressure that seeing almost all women in my life follow these practices puts on me and therefore if sometimes I feel like I should wear certain things that desire is likely to come from feeling lesser compared to the woman around me. Three I understood the with many of my colleagues they're make-up face is like their "normal" face to me and when they don't wear make-up it feels like they're incomplete even though it's just what they actually look like. And I don't want people to see my natural face that way even if it's just subconscious.
I don't think wearing make-up is wrong or anything like that. I just feel there's a lot a pressure to do wear it, to dress up, to match a certain definition of pretty. So that for me I still need to re-assure myself sometimes that it's okay to present myself the way I do. (My boyfriend has been of great help in this process actually. In the past I dated man who literally asked me to wear make-up after we've been dating for a while...) I admire your strong mindset in that regard, it's inspirational!

Make-up: I never actually wore make-up outside of special occasions but recently I've started doing eye make-up, I just enjoy it the same way I love painting. I definitely don't feel insecure not wearing it but I enjoy it when I do. I am not sure if I ever will repurchase a foundation though. I probably won't, maybe I will buy a corrector but I honestly am not sure if I would get enough use out of it.
Shopping: I have never been a huge shopping person - I would definitely just mindlessly go to a mall with a friend or my mom though. I still like to browse art supply stores and bookstores (although I rarely buy a book there) but I never go to a shopping centre just for fun anymore (unless I am waiting for someone and it is raining heavily, haha).
Shaving: I have never really shaved my legs either and with armpit hair - I don't do anything most of the year. I sometimes do shave but it is honestly just when I feel like it. My hair is dark and I am pale so it shows a lot so I do like to shave on special occasions. I have never really shaved other parts of my body and I will not start, it is just too much work, too uncomfortable.
Dressing up: I just love pretty dresses and skirts and I probably look like I am going to a theatre/event every day, haha.
Being feminine: Definitely agree. I do look super feminine but I don't behave stereotypically, my goals aren't very woman-like.
Taking care of my hair: I have to brush my hair everyday as otherwise, it tangles but I don't do anything special to it. I braid it a lot because it cuts down on the brushing time, looks cute and makes me hair wavy for the next day so yay!
Caring about what others think: Yeah. I mean, I do care, but I have come a long way... as I have some mental health issues, I tried to hide that but I have realised that no, if someone minds, they are not the person for me. So I definitely don't care as much anymore.
