The growls Floor does in this song are produced using a technique called false cord growling. It's done by holding the vocal cords open, using a lot of air, and then using the false vocal folds to produce the distorted sounds. Because false cord growls are done with the vocal cords held open, they have a very large resonant space and thus tend to sound low, dark, and round compared to other types of growls/screams used in metal. There are growling/screaming techniques that are done with the vocal folds held together and only allowing a small, high pressure stream of air to pass through them without phonating, but that technique produces a very different sound that what you heard in this song. (Good example for that technique would be Devin Townsend's song Kingdom for EMGtv).

I am super grateful. Thanks too for your support🥰
Well, from what you have read in the comments they have put you a bit up to date, you can also react to the group "epica", it is the same genre, its vocalist simone simons, and Mark Jansen as guttural voices and guitarist, in fact he and floor played and sang together before floor entered nightwish, well the point is that you can react at least to these 2 songs, one sings it with "floor" "Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect show" "EPICA - Consign To Oblivion - Live at the Zenith (OFFICIAL VIDEO)" You can also react to many more videos of nightwish with floor, and even of "tarja" the first vocalist of the band, who is the pioneer and legend, songs like "phantom of the opera" NIGHTWISH - The Phantom Of The Opera (OFFICIAL LIVE) (tarja) They are just one of the many options that I can give you, I hope you enjoy it
@@ralfmeyer9086 You got there ahead of me! The contrast to this song could not be more stark. It is also worth noting that despite Floor and Simone both being sopranos, Floor takes the alto part. A full choir and orchestra live on stage with them, and a whole venue full of metalheads respectfully silenced for the performance, it is truly amazing to hear. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/nhtOORYTGx8/v-deo.html
Love the heavy guitars at the beginning. Did you notice Marko was wearing a Kilt? Good message, even more important these days. I found the special bit when listening to Markos words... surely he can't be doing the growls at the same time? Floor's "Siren voice" at the end, then she starts yelling! Love Markos evil laugh!
You nailed it Aaliyah. This is all about internet trolling. You are a very intelligent young lady with a deep understanding of music and the various vocal techniques being used in this song. Well done. Peace.
I mean, I love so many of their songs much more than this one but I love this one for the simple fact of how she does the metal growl, so cool I mean she can do so many things with her voice, and when she pulled out the metal growl my jaw hit the ground
One I really think you'd enjoy, Epica, Sancta Terra, ft. Floor, an awesome song and video, the live one is great, and for those old enough to remember, very reminiscent of head bangers ball, all least the metal parts.
As for the growling, Floor always warns to learn the technique first. If you do it wrong, it produces the sound allright, but it ruins your vocal cords. Only do it when you know how to do it. If you want to see Floor sing real opera (8 years ago) ua-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/v-deo.html
With Classic im sold 100% but metal is still 50/50 for me. Its very headache inducing but if its a good song with good delivery from the singer then i enjoy it. I like this side of you lady Aaliyah. You have good taste. I love your saying "if you dont have nothing nice to say dont say it at all". Its very similar to my saying " Say something good or remain silent". I learned something new ( gottles and growels) not sure if that spelling is correct. Hmmm it can only be a good thing to absorb as many techniques as possible you never know when it might come in handy. Thank you for a great video reaction you always put a smile on my face no matter how my day is going.😀

@@AaliyahCapili Same to you. I think that you could learn a few things from Floor. She has a classical training and she is a vocal coach. You are so nice. I'll be waiting for your reactions. Enjoy your day!!!
great reaction and review, many people do not understand the importance of hyphenation, to make themselves understood better and to give emphasis to sentences, especially in strong songs like this. I suggest you 4 of the band's most powerful performances: "shudder before the beautiful" and "7 days to the wolves" from the 2015 concert at the London Wembley Arena, "weak fantasy" from the 2015 concert in Tampere - Finland and last but not least "sahara" live in Tampa - Florida again in 2015
Another great one, to react to, I'm sure others have mentioned it by now. I just found your channel yesterday btw. Is Phantom of the Opera, by nightwish, the one with Tarja and Marko. it is epic.
@@AaliyahCapili yep, no problem, and I was so happy when you did it, made the comment before your vid was uploaded, though I'm sure you already did it and edited, just waiting on upload when I mentioned it. love your channel and how much you like them.
Very nice reaction. But there are more fantastic female singers who can do these harsh vocals or false cord screams/growls. Two of those who master this technique are: Tatiana Shmailyuk from the Ukrainian band "Jinjer" and Melissa Bonny from the Swiss/German band "Ad Infinitum". They use it a lot more (especially Tatiana) in their singing than Floor usually does because most Nightwish songs are not written for this kind of singing. Both, Tatiana and Melissa have beautiful clean singing voices but can switch to almost demonic sounding harsh vocals. Maybe you want to check them out too?
Since you mentioned Siren, there's a Nightwish song called Siren, sung by their original singer Tarja, whos a opera singer, too. Think you would like it.
Great job on this one. The audio sounds great, so big improvement there, and I see the headphones@@, I think that helped you listen carefully and picked up the grows by Floor very quickly. Very good analysis of the lyrics, you're humble and sweet, and you are a great reactor in the making, so hopefully no haters for you. If you get any, ignore them, Theirs is an Empty Hope.
Should also try some of nightwish earlier stuff I know it in tarja era but they both do it great. But try walking in the air.. Nemo.. Wishmaster to something different to give you also difference between the two
The next step you can take in symphonic metal is EPICA. There are many very beautiful songs, for example Design your Universe (live at retrospect), Consign to Oblivion, Unchained utopia (omega alive version), Abyss of time ... and many others. I highly recommend that you listen to them and have fun :)
Hey if you want to hear Floor jansen doing some more growling then you must check out her previous band Revamp songs disdain and wildcard live shows, awesome thanks 😀
Hi Aaliyah, once again I highly appriciate your combination of musical empathy and profound analysis. Your thoughts about Floor’s vocals as well as the lyrics make me feel you’re on best way to overcome your statement in „Quick Disclaimer“. In other words, you just nailed it. As I can see your channel is growing, and for good reason. From several comments I guess the Nightwish-Army is getting to like what you do. You’ll find them a very friendly and well informed crowd of music enthusiasts. Stay well and away from any hate-minded people. You don’t deserve any of those. P.S. In your intro I saw a small scene reminding me of J. Offenbachs „The Doll Aria“ (Tales of Hoffmann). If you - being a soprano yourself - like this song I suggest for your personal pleasure a video from your colleague Elizabeth Zharoff on ‚The Charismatic Voice‘(in some ways I hear you in her way of commenting). Pur fun and a singer close to your age. Perhaps/hopefully one day we’ll see you doing this aria.

Lots of respect and appreciation for your intention to go beyond genre-borders ! NOT AS A REACTION-SUGGESTION but as an example for how that can work I might draw your attention to an old and famous church-song from the 17hundreds by Pergolesi: STABAT MATER DOLOROSA. As a person of faith you may know it. In midst of this metal-concert ( ua-cam.com/video/nhtOORYTGx8/v-deo.html ) Epica’s singer Simone Simons is joined by her friend Floor Jansen of Nightwish. Singing in Latin they perform this great song for the crowd. And they love it. So, may be a steep hill to climb, but YES, follow your dreams and always have the Lord at your side. 🥰🙏🤗

The real deal when it comes to growling is of course Tatiana Smayluk from Jinjer. A great vocalist with a totally different energie and stage presence. She changes and variates the growling and clean voice in a second without any visible effort.
And as a singer yourself know her switching between those styles is extremely hard. Yes metal ore bands do both most have one that does fry voice while the other sings. Few can do both and they don’t go into operatic singing style none have operatic training. She is able to do any style she wants and puts her mind to. That is where she has an advantage over all the others
And have you already heard something by amira willighagen who is 17 years old like you she won Hollands got talent at age 9 performing also uno bambino cara
Great reaction. Anyway, can i request your reaction to superb band from japan? The band is call "Lovebites" They all The Beautiful Queens heavy metal band right now in the earth. They are really really World class musicians. Phenomenal. And they have a lot diehard fans like me😁. The fans called Wolfpack. The song is "Don't bite the dust" from they live concert. Hope you check out, and can enjoy it too. Big thanks🙏
If you are seeking to increase your variety of singing styles, you could have no better role model than Floor Jansen. It may interest you to know that the internationally acclaimed soprano and vocal coach Elizabeth Zharoff (The Charismatic Voice) is also a fan of Floor Jansen. You seem to be very well advanced in the operatic genre already, and some of it will just have to wait for your voice to mature further, something which can't be rushed. And you are showing a very good ear and good knowledge of your vocal anatomy and how to use it to your best advantage. Floor's deep growling is done with an open false fold technique, as has already been stated by Some Digital. It's not a technique I've ever used, as I sing pretty low (basso profundo) already, although my voice is now rising a little with age, and I don't think I can hit the infrasound range I used when BBC Maida Vale studio techs joked that they should have consulted a seismologist to select the best mic for me. That was as a member of a male voice choir, and the height of my (purely amateur) career as a singer.
Hello Phil, awww thanks so much for taking the time to write and comment, I am truly grateful🥰 thanks so much too for sharing some information, I pray someday I can be able to sing well like them, though they are really one in a billion and I can learn from them as well💕oh and enjoy your singing too🤗have a wonderful day🤗

Just those that are hateful or spreads hate😔😔😔but i guess we cannot really control it. The only thing we can control is ourselves and our own reactions to it🤗
🤗🤗🤗you are truly right that whatever we post, it is like a gift that we put out, and others might like it and others might not like it. I am truly grateful that all the feedback given to me was really helpful as I continue to learn and grow from all of their insights🤗🤗🤗thanks again and to you too for taking the time to comment. I am super grateful. Thanks too for your support🥰
Your with the nightwish family were all one good job need more you rock
Thanks so much to all of you💕🤗♥️
Well, from what you have read in the comments they have put you a bit up to date, you can also react to the group "epica", it is the same genre, its vocalist simone simons, and Mark Jansen as guttural voices and guitarist, in fact he and floor played and sang together before floor entered nightwish, well the point is that you can react at least to these 2 songs, one sings it with "floor"
"Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect show"
"EPICA - Consign To Oblivion - Live at the Zenith (OFFICIAL VIDEO)"
You can also react to many more videos of nightwish with floor, and even of "tarja" the first vocalist of the band, who is the pioneer and legend, songs like "phantom of the opera"
NIGHTWISH - The Phantom Of The Opera (OFFICIAL LIVE) (tarja)
They are just one of the many options that I can give you, I hope you enjoy it
Stabat mater Dolorosa from the Epica show. Full classical from Floor and Simone..🤘
Thanks so much for all of your suggestions💕
Love the heavy guitars at the beginning.
Did you notice Marko was wearing a Kilt?
Good message, even more important these days.
I found the special bit when listening to Markos words...
surely he can't be doing the growls at the same time?
Floor's "Siren voice" at the end, then she starts yelling!
Love Markos evil laugh!
Hello Gillandian, thanks so much for your comments, they are really so awesome, the🥰and the heavy guitars are so great🥰
Epica+Floor live with the song Stabat Mater Dolorosa. And Sancta Terra live.
Thanks so much for sharing🥰will check it out too♥️
She's a voice teacher herself.. Also, she teaching as well in her UA-cam Channel..
Thanks so much Syaff for sharing the info😍
Great reaction TY

You should try Floor singing Aria from Puccini on Dutch TV .or Stabat Mater Dolorosa with her freind from Epica .
Thanks Dick for your suggestion, will check it out too🥰
You nailed it Aaliyah. This is all about internet trolling. You are a very intelligent young lady with a deep understanding of music and the various vocal techniques being used in this song. Well done. Peace.
Thanks so much Thorgrim, for your nice feedback and comment🥰have a nice day 💕💕💕
You still need to check out Floor in Beste Zangers doing “Phantom of the Opera”! Floor is the best singerI have ever heard!
Such a fun song, I think that HA from Marco is laughing because Floor is doing The growling!
Hello, thanks so much for sharing 💕
@@islgrl292 yes, agree😍
So proud of you my dear..... Your channel is growing so fast... God.bless you always.
Thank you po and God Bless

Love love to you too 🥰
I mean, I love so many of their songs much more than this one but I love this one for the simple fact of how she does the metal growl, so cool I mean she can do so many things with her voice, and when she pulled out the metal growl my jaw hit the ground
Yes, so cool 🥰🥰🥰
Awesome review Aaliyah...love your in-depth analysis..
Awww thanks so much Jim 💕🥰💕have a great week🤗🥰💕
One I really think you'd enjoy, Epica, Sancta Terra, ft. Floor, an awesome song and video, the live one is great, and for those old enough to remember, very reminiscent of head bangers ball, all least the metal parts.
Thanks so much for sharing and for your recommendation💕
I got the double album double Blu-ray of this straight out of the UK so good
Thanks for sharing Mr. James
Thanks for sharin💕
Hello Sir Lance🥰😍🤗its always a pleasure to read your comments, you have always supported and encouraged me every step, even when I have mistakes you are always understanding. May you have a great week ahead🤗you are so kind💕🥰🤗
@@AaliyahCapili Mistakes? Oh come on lady Aaliyah we both know this isnt true. You know how in the movies when the girl speaks too much and the only way to shut her up is by silencing her with a big fat juicy kiss? This is what i feel like doing to you sometimes... lol just kidding hehe 🥰😍🤗 Have a pleasant week !
Hey beautifull!!! Loved your reaction. You said at the begining that you are so young, and have too much to learn, but also you have a good ear, and you're very perceptive. Keep on please. Sorry for my english but I'm from Argentina. Greettings!!!

Hello again Dias♥️thanks so much for yoir support as always🥰
first time seeing your reactions. thanks it was very good
Hello, thanks so much for your support💕
great reaction and review, many people do not understand the importance of hyphenation, to make themselves understood better and to give emphasis to sentences, especially in strong songs like this.
I suggest you 4 of the band's most powerful performances: "shudder before the beautiful" and "7 days to the wolves" from the 2015 concert at the London Wembley Arena, "weak fantasy" from the 2015 concert in Tampere - Finland and last but not least "sahara" live in Tampa - Florida again in 2015
Hello, thanks so much for your suggestion, will check it too💕thanks too for your nice comment🥰
Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮 🤘
Hello Kari🥰💕🤗
Another great one, to react to, I'm sure others have mentioned it by now. I just found your channel yesterday btw. Is Phantom of the Opera, by nightwish, the one with Tarja and Marko. it is epic.
Thanks for the suggestion, I already have a video on their performance, they are really awesome💕
Two of those who master this technique are:
Tatiana Shmailyuk from the Ukrainian band "Jinjer" and
Melissa Bonny from the Swiss/German band "Ad Infinitum".
Hello thanks for your suggestion, will check it out too😊
Since you mentioned Siren, there's a Nightwish song called Siren, sung by their original singer Tarja, whos a opera singer, too. Think you would like it.
Thanks so much for your suggestion💕
Great reaction! You've got a new subscriber here for sure, excellent job upgrading the audio!
Hello Dee Duff, thanks so much for your support and also feedback, im truly grateful🥰💕♥️
Hello Taveren, thanks so much for the feedback and encouragement💕😍💕
Should also try some of nightwish earlier stuff I know it in tarja era but they both do it great. But try walking in the air.. Nemo.. Wishmaster to something different to give you also difference between the two
Thanks so much John, will check it out too🥰
very good analyze reaction i like :) thanx and have great day there.
Awww thanks so much, have a great day as well💕
The next step you can take in symphonic metal is EPICA. There are many very beautiful songs, for example Design your Universe (live at retrospect), Consign to Oblivion, Unchained utopia (omega alive version), Abyss of time ... and many others.
I highly recommend that you listen to them and have fun :)
Hello thanks so much for your recommendation, will check it out too💕♥️💕
If you want a more classical approach in vocals, I strongly recommend you "Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect show"
Hello Dourden, will definitely watch it too😍thanks for your recommendation💕
I would recommend after every pause to go 10 seconds back to not miss the continuousness of the song
Thanks so much for the feedback, i learned from it a lot💕
Great job fixing the sound! For this I reward you with a like and subscribe :-)
Awww thanks for your support💕😍💕

Hello Joey, thanks so much for your suggestion, will check it out🥰🤗💕
Thank you.
Thanks so much RonniePeterson♥️
Hello Christian, hope all is well🥰super duper thank you for always taking the time to comment, make helpful suggestion and for all of your support. I am lost for words but I really am grateful. I learn a lot from all the feedbacks and I hope someday I can improve not only my channel but in my studies and singing as well. Though i am studying classical and into opera, I really want to be able to sing different kinds of genre. Praying that someday I can achieve it too. From all the suggestions, I got to know and learn about other great and talented singers and performers even from different genres. They are really all inspiring. I also got to know a lot of wonderful and kind people here, like you and the rest. Who encourages me to follow my dream and reach my full potential someday🙏thank you sooo much and may you have a blessed week🥰🙏🤗thanks for your suggestion too
Thank you Aaliyah ! You are such a kind 💖, determined and inspiring person 👏 May the face of the Lord shine on all your ways 🙏
@@AaliyahCapili Hello Aaliyah, it‘s a pleasure and an honour having the chance to follow your progress and the steps you take to reach your goals and dreams. 🥰🙏🤗

@@christianmeyer6724 awww thanks so much for sharing and recommending this, I am looking forward in watching. God Bless you too and take care always🥰🙏🥰
The real deal when it comes to growling is of course Tatiana Smayluk from Jinjer. A great vocalist with a totally different energie and stage presence. She changes and variates the growling and clean voice in a second without any visible effort.

Hello thanks so much for your suggestion😍
wow it is so intense

And as a singer yourself know her switching between those styles is extremely hard. Yes metal ore bands do both most have one that does fry voice while the other sings. Few can do both and they don’t go into operatic singing style none have operatic training. She is able to do any style she wants and puts her mind to. That is where she has an advantage over all the others

Her surname is pronounced as YAN-SEN (YUHN SEN) because she's a Dutch from the Netherlands.

@@AaliyahCapili awesome. Thank you so much
If you are seeking to increase your variety of singing styles, you could have no better role model than Floor Jansen.
Hello Phil, awww thanks so much for taking the time to write and comment, I am truly grateful🥰 thanks so much too for sharing some information, I pray someday I can be able to sing well like them, though they are really one in a billion and I can learn from them as well💕oh and enjoy your singing too🤗have a wonderful day🤗
@@AaliyahCapili Don't sell yourself short - I see from your other videos that you have already achieved about as much as anyone your age can hope to, and you have time and youth on your side!
