The difference from the other songs is this is the first songs written for Floor’s voice.
Imagine watching this song, then Shoemaker or Sleeping Sun afterwards. New reactioner mind blowing
The funny thing, Tuomas was on record as saying that there will never be "grunts" in Nightwish and then along came Floor. One of the interesting things is that she can go clean, growl, clean on a single breath. During her performance of "Face Your Demons" at her recent solo shows, she pops in a short growl in the middle of a phrase just to remind the more pop oriented audience not to get too comfortable with all of those pretty noises that she had been making earlier. It's a great song to use as an example of Floor using a myriad of vocal colours to tell a story.
Thats really funny! But that shows also that he is willing to experiment things with such a skilled versatile singer he didnt consider earlier. Didn't know about "Face your demons" yet, watched a live version and wow such an entertaininging performance and the growl was just spot on perfectly. Thanks for mentioning it.

@@roeehsi A guest vocalist growling does not negate what I said. Nightwish did not use growls before Floor. A band does not tell a guest vocalist what not to do. Imagine inviting Alissa of Arch Enemy and telling her not to growl?
Bottom line, Nightwish did not use growls before Floor. It is irrelevant that a guest vocalist growled during a Nightwish song.

He was informed in advance that Floor growls here and yet he asks several times if Marko does that. I mean, how does it work logically, if Marko is the clear voice, that he growls at the same time. Floor then only moves the lips or what? Don't understand how not to recognize this immediately.
@@TomTomson81 Yeah when people hear that she can growl, they maybe don't expect that she can GROWL. They are expecting some rasp, not full gutteral. They flip the script in the chorus, Floor goes low, Marco goes high which isn't what people expect. The only reason I caught it is because I am familiar with Marco's voice. I was like if Marco is singing then....?

The Wembley version of this song is 100% better, everything is clearly visible and audible. If someone did not notice Floor's growl in Wembley version, then this person was definitely not at all attentive, very bad hearing, and if he looked carefully and did not notice, then this person clearly has problems with his eyesight, only in these cases they may not notice the growl Floor in Wembley, it happens very very rarely with Wembley.

The wembley version is well known for floor growling..
It’s a great performance and her voice is a little raspier during the verses but you can hardly hear her in the chorus, which is why most people react to this song to begin with. I think the performance he chose is better if you wanna hear the growls.
There is also a Joensuu version where the growls come out even more!

Marko (bass)sings clean, Floor is doing the all the growls. The song is basically Tuomas telling off all the internet trolls.
This is the first song you have done that was written for Floor. From the 8th album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful. It's also the first album with Kai Hahto (seen here) on drums. Original drummer, Jukka Nevalainen had to step aside from performing in 2014 due to health issues caused by severe insomnia, but remains with the band in management. Jukka called his friend ,Kai from Wintersun, to take over.

After her first band 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 which did upset Floor very much, Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song including some impressive death growls. Here are some examples:

I saw them in Silver Spring, MD in 2015 for this album tour. This song was pretty early in their set and when Floor spoke after the song she was a little raspy. She recovered quickly and there was no impact to the rest of the show at all. She's amazing!
And make no mistake, Marko is just as accomplished at singing and having a great range. He won last seasons Finlands Masked Singer. Everything from Backstreet Boys to Elton John. Just wait until you see his double necked Warwick! Check out Dead Boys poem or to hear more of Marcos voice - before Floor, they do a cover of Pink Floyd’s High Hopes-- he really belts that out

On a side note I've seen about five versions of this song and yes the Wembley one is the one you can hear her growls the most but all you have to do is look at the shape of floors mouth during these parts you can completely tell it's her because if you look at Marco's mouth you can tell he's doing something completely different

It is quite obvious that Marko is singing the 'cleans' during the chorus. He can't do both simultaneously, talented though he is. So when people already say that you should listen to this song because Floor is doing the metal screams, take it as read.
Bassist is the singer and a half in it's own. Former bassist now. And now, he was singing high, she was adding the growl below his voice.
It's the only song that has growls from Nighwish (discounting the Wacken version of Ghost River where Floor does a little) but she has some songs in her former band Revamp where also does it (like Disdain)
And now she is going to release a pop album.
She can do it all.

In ReVamp she first started exploring the vocal fry/harsher vocals a bit more than when she was in After Forever.
Edit: disdain by ReVamp (LIVE ) is one I absolutely love where she really shows off her harsher vocals live for one of the first times.. She didn't do the harsher vocals in studio (to my immediate knowledge) but live, she did.

I would definitely suggest "Everdream" ofc from Wacken 2013 :) This is where you can hear Marco sing. It is incredible how amazingly Marco's and Floor's voice complete each other. Besides that, I would propose you to listen "Dead boy's poem". Tuomas, the keyboard player, writes majority of their music and that song is kind of his anthem of sort. You now joined Nightwish journey with all of us and we will vicariously re-live all of these "first times" with you :)
Some Deers of Dimash noted she cant go high as Him, but i didnt really know what they referr to, so thats what She (possibly?) Cant do. Anything else already happened, from Opera to Musical, Pop, any Crossovers and She Sang the Phonebook unprepared bcs Radiojockey ask for.
Thats why some of us recommended other Songs first, which include Marcoss Voice, so you can get the Difference;) Jap She Growls. She did it on an TV Show this Spring in Germany sitting on an Couch beeing ask if she can, and they all nearly fell off the Seatrig:)

The most popular of Dimash his performances are all about the "wow" factor, it's just to impress the audience and demonstrate his insane range. Also, all these talent shows are autotuned or at least pitch-corrected. He doesn't need it, he's naturally gifted and has very good technique, but it's just how it is.
I don't understand the modern obsession with tenors at all (though he's technically a high baritone). Why is it so necessary to sing high, why is it considered "cool" when a man sounds like a woman? On another end, we have this female growling thing, perhaps even more stupid. Of course, it's cool sometimes but... I mean, come on.
I believe that death growls and fry screams are out of place in serious metal music that has grown beyond the "cult" (excuse me - KVLT :), the subculture and the "f. you" attitude of the 80's. They belong in the extreme subgenres of metal that often don't even have any lyrics (maybe for the better :), but there we run into another problem: the progress has reached so far that the human throat just doesn't sound bRRRRutal enough. Smoking ten packs a day, catching cold, bronchitis or heavy hangover can only help so much, so people are forced to look for alternative solutions: ua-cam.com/video/aHHIqaNVS3A/v-deo.html

I didn’t like growls until I got into Opeth in the BlackWater Park era. There was so much atmosphere and beauty in the music I kept listening and then the growls really added to the texture. Also live Epica and they have some growls. Bit I do need good cleans or harmony to offset them. I love contrast, so just growls in growls doesn’t do it for me. But again - mad respect to people like Will Ramos.
@@NZWozza I don't know... Every time I hear growling I just start giggling uncontrollably. :) It feels so cliché. But maybe it will grow on me. Occasional growls, like the ones Floor is doing here or in "Face your demons", can be very appropriate.

This super band called Nightwish consists of a group of musicians that together have iver 120 years of musical experience. These musicians are so experienced, they make other bands sound amateurish, literally.
Since you want to know further about Floor Jansencs vocal range, you need to visit her past band, ReVamp which was disbanded right before she joined Nightwish and sent her to several months of hiatus due to depression.
The song is Wild Card by ReVamp, find the live session and prepare yourself. This is before all the hype of female metal vocalists. Floor has done it all.

More absolutely awesome songs from the Wachen 2013 show are the show opener Dark Chest of Wonders, Ghost River, Romanticide, Bless the Child and Nemo. From the Wembley 2015 show are 7 days to the Wolves and Weak Fantasy and a better version of Yours is an Empty Hope a more qualitative one, amongst others of course and from the Live in Buenos Aires 2018 show are Ghetsemane, The Carpenter, I want my tears back, and Dead boy's poem are amongst the most epic.

i don't understand how so many people who do reactions, don't recognize that it's floor doing the growling. it's obviously macro's voice in the refrain. you can hear it! they have different voices.

Great. Awesome reaction again. Glad you figured out that Floor was doing all the harsh growls on every chorus. This was a fun concert performed on the Baltic Princess during their multi-day Nightwish Cruise in 2015. Keep the Nightwish live performances coming.
