    That is just what I needed -yesterday my friend Doctor Tom and I went fishing in the Mansfield. Struck out but what a beautiful day-with the Coronavirus going on it was my first day out this Spring. My Friend Bill in Seattle sent me this link-I had to get UA-cam on my lap top to view the video which was getting a much needed transfusion. I Subscribed.
    Thanks to Everyone.

    Bryan, that's an awesome day! waiting for temps to drop down here before bringing out the sexi stones. Tied some with ginger/brown and the bow's crushed them! Thanks for your great videos and commentary. Tight lines!

      Hey Mike! Yeah it really was an awesome day! I'm not sure I would have found those big fish without the sexi stones... I really love that fly. I'm glad you won our drawing and have caught a bunch of fish with them! :)

    First of all I want to congratulate you on a awesome day nymphing! Landing some fat bows and browns , as a fellow fly fisherman this is why we do this ! Believe me I understand your excitement when hooking up into these fish , because of the commitment and effort that you put into the sport, it’s gratifying when you actually get into a battle! Love the camera work and great looking water ! Tight lines and good fall fishing!

    Awesome video! Some really nice browns. Every time I travel up to New York I never find browns of that size! Must be on the wrong streams. Enjoy the rest of September fishing 🐟🎣

      It has taken me many years of exploring and learning to fish a certain way to have confidence in catching bigger fish. I will say that Euro Nymphing helps me find fish I otherwise would never catch! I attribute a lot of my success on big fish the last few years to Euro Nymphing! In this particular case I think a few things came into alignment to help me find these guys (cooler water temps being a big one).

      White Dog Outdoors I definitely agree. I’m from MA and it is much easier to explore closer to home. I find it difficult to want to “explore” NY waters when I have to drive at least 5 hours half the time. I like to try to do some research. I’ve found some large fish and hidden gems in western MA and VT for sure. Some day I’ll be able to commit more time to NY. Tight lines!

It all happened so fast and next thing I knew we were below the tree and the fish was still on! :) Definitely the fish of the year for me!

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  2 роки тому

      I have an older Sage 3250 I believe. It is problematic if you use a mono rig (it will slip through the frame of the feel) but great for using a fly line.

    What creek or river was this in upstate? Upstate NY can be anywhere lol. This toward 9-mile or Oswego county area. Or more towards Adirondacks, or downstate Catskills?
    I’m looking to find new areas to get into some trout.

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  3 роки тому

      Kinda none of the above... I would call it Eastern NY... kinda of Capital District area. There is great fishing all over the state though... I plan on exploring more of the Catskill myself this year!

    What an awesome stream? Are these all wild fish??

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah... it's a pretty piece of water for sure. The browns are wild fish. The rainbows are likely a mix of stocked and wild. I don't believe they stock too closely to where I was fishing but there is a chance some are stocked.

    Where are some good fishing spots in upstate, I’m in fort drum and I fish the black river and Indian but I’m trying to find more spots

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  4 роки тому

      I honestly don't know the water out that way. I have fished the black river closer to the Adirondacks several times but it warms up way too fast and can't be fished beyond June in a hot summer. If you're looking for warm water species like bass I would imagine that would open up a lot of opportunity but again I don't know the water out that way.

      I have a problem with people who always want to know, “Where are you fishing?” I suggest you go find a place and make it your own. That is the best part of the adventure. Sometimes I will take people out to my favorite spots but make them swear a blood oath to never reveal them to someone else.

    Brian,
    How long did it take you to get use to Euro nymphing?

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  5 років тому +1

      Well... very quickly once I understood how it should feel. But I avoided nymphing for MANY years because I sucked at it and I didn't catch nearly as many fish or big fish because I limited myself to dry flies or sometimes streamers. The big thing was I never had enough weight in the fly to feel anything while nymphing. Once I actually started euro nymphing I took off very quickly. It is ridiculously effective! I have been planning a real "How To" on euro nymphing covering all of the basics but I just don't feel like i have all of the footage I need for it. I need a good video person filming close up while I fish. The Go Pro just does not capture it.
