Great video Bryan! There's nothing better than feeling a wild trout on the end of the line. The excitement you show in every video like it's the first time you've ever caught a fish is very refreshing. We will definitely need to hook up next year for some bass fishing.
Went out this weekend. Camped in the below freezing weather Friday so I could be close to the Esopus and fish all day Saturday. No luck...nothing at all. It was frustrating and I was thinking about not even trying this weekend...but this video has me too pumped. Thanks for the inspiration a complete newbie need to keep trying.
I've never fished it but I've heard good things about it. What methods are you using? Euro is great in cold weather. Get those flies to the bottom moving as slowly as possible.
I was nymphing under an indicator focusing on shallower pockets. I have caught at least one fish and hooked or spotted several others the past weeks before but this time it was just dead. As things cool down should I be doing something different?
@@riffsandwich9541 Hard to know without watching you fish and seeing the water. Browns are getting ready to spawn too so maybe that is a factor? Could just be an off day too. The thing with using an indicator is it can pull the fly along too quickly sometimes. The water on the bottom goes slower so the faster water on top carries the indicator faster and pulls the flies lifting them off the bottom. I like euro because it is slow and along the bottom where the fish are. It does really well in cold water. I do like indicators in longer slower pools to help pull the flies along where the water is slow... also it lets you reach further.. i used to use indicators a lot when steelheading. I would just keep trying different types of water until you find something. I do a lot of moving when I fish! I don't wait for the active fish... I go find the active fish! I like riffles that have some deeper water. Get the flies to the bottom moving as slowly as possible.
Congrats to you on a great day of fishing! Good looking water and some real nice pools and pockets! Good choice on choosing to explore, sometimes giving up a good spot is tough but covering more water is the right choice! I like your vest , who makes it ? Tight lines my friend!!
Thanks.. Exploring is my favorite part of fishing. I am not one to sit still when I fish... I have to go find new things. LL Bean makes the pack I wear. I really love it. I bought it years ago and I have seen several other people wearing it in the last year. It has room for gear without being too bulky.
@@chasinbowsnbrowns3652 Good luck Sunday. This is the pack I use. www.llbean.com/llb/shop/85992?page=rapid-river-vest-pack&bc=29-507923-512608&feat=512608-GN1&csp=f&attrValue_0=Forest%20Shade/Bay%20Leaf
LOL... I've had good luck with landing bigger fish but this one was not to be! For that small stream it was a biggun too. I was thinking 18" or so. I got a look at the width of the back as it went past me and it was enough to make my heart skip a beat!
Thanks. The only streams I name are very large streams that are well known. As it is I have people who get frustrated if they recognize a particular pool in my videos let along telling people where I am. We definitely try to protect some of these delicate fisheries. Hopefully people still enjoy the videos and can learn things about technique, flies, setups, etc. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
I don't talk stream names because of the delicate nature of the fisheries. This stream in fact was great the last 2 years and got hit by a few people this year who cleaned it out and now it completely sucks! What part of NY are you in?
The action shots are a GoPro but the intro, outro, scenery and a few other shots are a Canon M50. Very compact, great auto focus and clarity... great for VLog type stuff. I'm only using the base lens with it at this point too.
@@PondsSoloFishing I hear ya! I felt the same way! I looked at other videos and I just couldn't do what they did with the cameras I had. I even did some research and bought a Nikon D5500 but the autofocus on video was horrendous. Don't do Nikon for video. I asked a lot of UA-camrs and a few people I know who know cameras well. Sony and Canon are good. The M50 is mirrorless which apparently is good for video. I've been very happy with it, great quality video!!! I still use the Nikon for photography because I bough a nice lens for it and I use it for my fly tying videos since I don't have a macro lens or a zoom lens for the Canon yet. It was hard to pull the trigger on the Canon since I had already purchased the Nikon and nice lens but it did make a big difference... and the Canon is so small and easily packable for fishing trips!
Good question. They're all very similar size 16 nymphs on jig style hooks with tungsten beads and lead wrapped on the shaft of the hook. The colors vary slightly and are just different color dubbings. The beads I like are 1/8" tungsten rainbow beads. I was going to do a video soon of one my favorite nymphs that will give you the basics for making them and then you just substitute different dubbings for the body. The only video I have that is similar is the frenchie (a very good fly). It uses pheasant tail and not dubbing for the body. ua-cam.com/video/Jy0Hr6lqjcA/v-deo.html

Exciting video. My heart is still pounding. What a rush!
Glad you enjoyed it. I did too :)
Nice vid!! Those wild fish fight 2-3Xs their size! Amazing colors too.
I agree.. wild fish fight better than a stockie any day. Wild fish are survivors!
Beautiful colors on the fish, Love the video
Thanks... appreciate the comment. I definitely agree with you... I love the colors on wild trout.
Awesome video man! Love catching wild trout - wish I had more streams near me! Looking forward to more vids!
Thanks! I definitely love wild trout!

Great video. Thanks. I imagine that you might not want to identify the stream, but, if not, could you tell me the general region where it's located?

If you don’t mind me asking Bryan what steam is this? I’m looking for newer waters to fish here in upstate NY
