  • I go to my rental property to collect the overdue rent and find the place vacant. The tenant has skipped and the property is destroyed and flea infested This damage is done by a mother, son and her pregnant daughter whom I have helped over the past few years. This property was completly renovated 3 years ago. I gave them reduced rent to help them out in turn she was to to be a long term tenant and take good care of my property Notice the bathroom downstairs.They were using the bathtub as a toilet. She was known to be a dirtbag. I learned too late.

    this is why good tenants have to pay twice what they should in rent. landlords have to make up for the losses these scumbags cause.

    People who do this sort of thing(trashing a rental) naked me so angry because not only are the destroying it but making it harder fir others who are clean and tidy to rent, because the landlords can't trust anyone new to move in.sickening pigs.

    I can't understand why or how people can live like that their sick selfish people. it's bad enough to live so filthy but to destroy someone elses property, GOOD LORD! I felt so bad for this landlord. How disappointing to put so much into something and have some self absorbed jerks not respect it. It's people like that that makes it hard on us good tenets. That's one of the top two reasons for high rent. What else can a person do, just eat it? Sad, so sad.

      I consider myself quite messy (because I'm lazy), but even then I keep it in my own
      But even then it's mostly just clothes on the floor or not put Away, notebooks and sketchbooks in a corner, and MAYBE the occasional pencil or marker. Other wise I get super paranoid about food left out and other things.

    Well I had house that I rented that I put about 1000 into to make it safe/more habitable and I wasnt reimbursed by the slimebag owner. i also had an apartment that was PERFECT when I left it. I had even shampooed the carpets before I left... they were cleaner than when I moved in (had to shampoo them right after I moved in too because they did such a crappy job on it) and they still charged me a $75.00 cleaning fee. Not all landlords are great either.

      +lambchopxoxo seems the laws always help the crook regardless of which side they are on :(. I hear people crapping about "tenants have all the laws on their side blah blah" yet we've been through shitty landlords in a house that was leaking through light fixtures, toilet was leaking sewage around the down pipe etc and we got kicked out with a "no reason" eviction for taking them to the tribunal just to get them to fix the place. Then they started bad mouthing us afterward until we threatened legal action.

    I could never be a landlord. I'd have gone to jail for beating the shit out of someone who left my property like that. And ignore the idiot who thinks you are in the wrong. I've rented many times. I own now. I did my best to keep things clean and I fixed problems that were within my skill set to fix. But I kept a list and I showed them. Problem is, the last landlady I had was psycho. I was busy with a job and sick kid so I hired a cleaning company to come in and finish the cleaning I didn't have time to do. She and her husband verbally abused them so bad, the crew leader told them to "F*** off" and walked out. So glad to be away from that loon.

Why are the neighbors subjected to this, he says "6-8months this has been here" (garbage can) but in the description he claims he just showed up and found it like this, like he had no idea, yet he knows the womans business.

    • @KremitDeFrog
      @KremitDeFrog 8 років тому +1

      agreed with this... last year I moved out of an apartment I was in for ~12 years.. it looked slightly cleaner than this... holes in the walls, stains on the carpets that the office never replaced or even bothered shampooing (one shampoo per year as per lease agreement).. even a huge 4'x3' section of wall behind the fridge that maintenance cut out to fix a leak and never patched up because the fix was temporary and the finishing touches were never completed.
      According to the description, it's concluded this was a 3yr lease, with multiple tenants.. So it's not all that surprising to see 10 yrs worth of damage.. Besides, isn't this why tenants are asked for a security deposit upfront?

      Frankly that tub looks like the plumbing backed up, which is actually the landlord's responsibility. And yes, carpet and paint can look worn after three years and three tenants. That did not look like the kind of place where they'd be likely to be able to regularly steam clean.

    • @keishataylor140
      @keishataylor140 8 років тому +3

      I lived in a place for 18 years and there wasn't poop in the tub. The carpet was like flat, a single iron burn, no dirt ground and caked in..not normal at all. I can understand the wall scuffs, corner scuffs, tings like that, but they had a carpet cleaner and didn't use it? WTF? That place what was you call, unacceptable.

    Do random inspections. 24 hour notice. When I was a tenant I didn't mind that. A good tenant won't have a problem with that. But a bad one will. Take pictures before and after also.

      Well it's not illegal where I live.I was a renter for years. I own my own house now, and have for the last year. I would wand access to the house for inspection 3 times a year if I was to rent mine out. 24 hours notice. Nothing wrong with that at all. Now that I'm a home owner I have a right to make sure the property is safe. Guess what us owners have right too.

    So the landlord never entered this property after a lease was signed? Huge mistake. I wonder how this landlord "helped" the pregnant daughter and if the rent was reduced for the entire time they were living there. I can't speak for other parts of the world or other states but in PA a landlord has every right to make 6 month inspections, one month inspections or weekly if necessary. I'm not that surprised at the condition considering the reduced rent and whatever way he was helping. People look past good intentions and take advantage of the kindness. Sad but true.

    Before you ever take tenants into your house, always look at their cars FIRST.
    If their car is in filth, then expect them to treat your house in much the same way as their car.
    If their car is crammed full with junks, then expect them to be HOARDERS FROM HELL.
    If their car has lot of scratches and dents, broken side mirrors, etc, then expect them to break your furnitures, electrical applicances, etc.
    If you see them scratching themselves a lot, then be cautious of them in case they might have scabies by being unwashed for long.

    • @missraeb467
      @missraeb467 6 років тому +11

      RC Geraghty this is ridiculous. I know a lot of people who have messy cars and their house is spotless and, have messy homes and a spotless car. Also, someone scratching themselves could have eczema or another skin condition that isn't scabies (not that scabies means a dirty person). Very judgemental comment.

    As a landlord, are you allowed to write up a renters contract that allows for you to come into the home 1 per month for inspection regardless of if the tenant is home or not as long as it is an agreed upon date such as the 1st of every month? That way the tenants will be well aware and can make plans for someone to be home and if someone is not home, the tenant would still be aware. That way the landlord can’t just show up unannounced but will still be able to maintain their property

    It's sad; you seem like a very compassionate man and landlord. We just got out of an extremely abusive situation with an out of control landlord; it was so stressful we ended up needing some mental health help. No matter what we did for this woman, she would constantly berate us, abuse us, and accuse us of stealing her stuff. We finally moved because the rent was out of control. She is now struggling to sell her house, and I am glad; the neighborhood is going downhill quick. We miss the house :(

    I have 4 rental property's. This thank the good lord has never happened to any of my property's. Because of my rules. rule 1, never rent to section8. rule 2, never rent to a smoker, rule3 never any pets...Here is what I always do when I meet a potential renter. I always great them at there car and a have a good sneak peek of there car inside if it is clean and not trashed you are in good shape. The rules say that a persons vehicle is an extension of there home. If its nasty then your rental property will be also. I have also learned to put a few clause's in the lease. "I THE LANDLORD HAVE THE RIGHT TO INSPECT THE PROPERTY AT ANY TIME WITH A 24 HOUR WRITTEN NOTICE IN ADVANCE" "I THE LANDLORD WILL DO INSECT SPRAYING IN AND AROUND THE PROPERTY EVERY 3 MONTHS" When potential tenets read these clauses and I make this known. They always ask "Does that mean you will come in the property and be in every room" YES. If I were to come across a rental all nasty I would give 30 days notice to clean it or be evicted! .I have been a good landlord for over 20 years and never had a bad tenant or a dirty house because of my rules..This may help other rental property owners ....

    stomach churning, been there done that, similar story only it was a single dad with out a place to go with his kids, no regular job and few prospects.I had to as they say 'take a Cat' to that house I renovated with my own two hands, stripping old plaster and lath and installing new drywall(walls and ceiling), insulation, new trim and linoleum. Took me FIVE months and court to get them out over the course of those months they destroyed everything and broke every window... I just lost heart and called my dirt work guy. He enjoyed it immensely as did I. A lot of work, alot of money reduced to a pile of rubble. Was a POWERFUL lesson. I had a few lessons in life that turned me from a flaming LIBERAL into a STRICT CONSERVATIVE... after I turned life got MUCH better. It's also hard to live with others because people are so disorganized and typically not very clean. It's such a shame! And that's why I have a traveling van...

    Opolara1, I don't blame you for selling off your properties. My wife and I have been renters for a long time, and we are on a fixed income. It is sometimes very difficult when we have looked for a new place since (through no fault of their own) landlords rarely want to rent to the disabled. We are part of a rare minority that clean, vacuum, and dust all the time, but it takes a lot of references to land a nice place. I hate trash like this that give those of us who respect ourselves a bad name.

  • @sunshinetogo4221
    @sunshinetogo4221 8 років тому

    This is why I never put carpet in rentals. Also no pets. Fleas are the least of pet damage. Your damage is bad but mostly cleaning. Carpet in the basement is a waste of money. Just paint the floor. Every time a tenant moves, expect cleaning, patching and maybe painting. Streamline your fix up. Also, second hand fixtures, toilets, sinks and cabinets are huge money savers and it doesn't hurt so bad when trashed. Make it easy for the tenant to keep the place tidy.
    Please do not listen to sad stories. Maybe they are true but maybe they are the result of bad choices, poor work ethic and entitlement issues. If you do a favor for a tenant, put it in writing and make sure you are reimbursed for whatever extra trouble it causes you.
    Hope your next tenants are cleaner and more responsible.

    When landlords rent to people like this, the old saying "you're only as good as the company you keep", applies. There are great tenants that get turned down, while scum tenants are accepted. I have NEVER understood that and never will. How hard is it to clean up after yourself and put things back where you found them? This is disgusting. This looks like a place from "Hoarders". He said one of them smoked 5 or 6 packs of cigarettes a day. That should have told him what kind of tenants they would be right there.

    If you're a landlord and you're not checking on your properties or residents then most of this is your fault. If you let them live how they want and not how is stated in the lease agreement it's your fault. Ya there are just some people who don't care but most of this can be prevented just by driving by and checking the property every few months, which is your right as a landlord.

    Such disgusting feral animals. There is a lesson to be learned my friend; 3 month inspections. You don't have to run a white gloved finger around the house, but it will tell you who the feral tenants are fairly quickly, and save you a lot of aggro in the long run

    • @Mechknight73
      @Mechknight73 10 років тому

      Sometimes. It should always be in the lease; periodic inspection, therefore the tenants have no recourse to say the landlord has no right to inspect the property on a regular basis. The Residential Tenancies Act in Australia clarifies both landlord and tenants' rights. It's supposed to be fair to both, but even it is sometimes weighted toward the tenants. It's still necessary to give a tenant 30 days to get out of a tenancy, no matter how far behind they are in rent, or how much they trashed the place.

    You should be happy that they left the tub, sinks, light fixture, fans, fridge, and the wiring in the walls. They take that stuff all the time. More than you would believe!

    I have trouble feeling sympathy for a landlord who never inspects the property while tenants are there. Landlords are entitled to enter a rented property with 24 hours' notice. It takes a good long time to trash a house the way this one was trashed, so obviously they lived there without ANY inspections done by the landlord. If you've paid good money for a house and you want to rent it out, at least inspect it regularly. You are entitled to do that, so do it. It's YOUR investment - don't just blindly trust tenants. Check up on them once in a while. After you've made two or three inspection visits, if you're happy with the way the tenants are living, you don't have to continue inspections, but until you know what kind of people are living there, keep an eye on your investment.
