I bought a 23’ HO dually this past summer. I’ve had duramax’s previously and have driven powerstrokes too. I drive commercially for a living and this is the closest thing to a commercial truck setup. The prices ram have set made it tough to justify a basic work truck compared to a loaded with leather ford or gm but if you are looking for a true work truck you can’t beat these. I have zero brand bias but can say I’ve been extremely impressed with the fit and finish and overall truck. The gauges on the display are so well thought out and definitely designed by people who tow and haul. Thanks for all of your wonderful content and expertise with your reviews.

Thank you sir! Well the prices of these trucks are out of control, base prices are up 15-20% from 2 years ago. but like you said these trucks do set up nicely for hauling.

    Great video. I have a 2022 3500 HO SRW 3.73s and I pull a 14,000# 39 foot fifth wheel camper.
I've found when towing with the cruise set at 70mph and going up hills that the truck tries to hold 6th gear too long then wants to drop to 4th. So, I've learned to drop it to 5th using the gear selector button when approaching hills and rarely does it have to drop to 4th to maintain speed unless it's an extremely steep hill.
In fact, I find myself getting in the fast lane and passing cars going up hill. No patience for priuses slowing me down 😂!

I have a 2021 H/O SRW and ABSOLUTELY agree with you on the exhaust break! it's impressive. I tow a 16k 5th wheel tow hauler and the truck pulls it no problem The thing just pulls and When pulling grades I ussually just lock out the Trans to 5th gear and motor up any hill. Pulls like crazy! As far as MPG I didn't get it for great fuel economy I wanted to have the power. I purchased a 53 gallon Titan fuel cell to offset the fuel economy and extend range

@@tylerbuck9347I’m sure those people that complain about the Aisin don’t understand how to drive it. You can’t be lead footed & expect it to shift smoothly. If you roll your foot into the accelerator & allow the transmission to do its thing it is very smooth. If you treat it like a sports car you’ll be very unhappy. Use my 21 Longhorn Limited with the HO Cummins & Aisin as a daily driver & pull a 40’ 15,000 pound fifth wheel. It’s a great truck. The exhaust brake is truly phenomenal as Alex said!

      @briang7870 19 днів тому

@tylerbuck9347 I agree. Shifts great when towing but when driving unloaded it's not great. Mine shifts hard from 1st to 2nd under no load and quiet often bangs when it does. Unloaded it also up shifts to 6th gear way to quick, I don't want to be in 6th gear when driving 60km/h in town, if you don't push the pedal hard enough to force a down shift it's a dog to accelerate. I find it either shifts way too soon or im waiting too long for it to shift, it's not very predictable. They finally have aftermarket tuning out for the aisin which is supposed to help it drastically but I'm not sure it's worth the money yet.

On the hill you'd ne better off not flooring it I've found... The torque falls off pretty quick with RPM. Ive found it pulls harder around 77 when it upshifts than around 73 in 4th. The cruise was happy with it accelerating, albeit slowly. The only downside to the 3500 is that it rides like absolute shit unloaded

I've noticed that these trucks don't like to stay at your cruise speed all the time, even when going uphill and even unladen. The couple of times I've driven my mom's 19' 2500 with the Cummins I've noticed that when I've got the cruise on and start climbing a hill (without anything behind the truck bear in mind,) it likes to sit 1 or 2 mph below my set cruise speed. Not sure why it does that since I've driven other Ram and other FCA products and they'll all hold you at your set speed.
Just something I thought of while watching you climb the hill and talk about this and the S.O. performance up the hill.

I have a 2022 RAM 3500 Dually, HO Cummins, and it's only used to haul our camper. Our 5th wheel is just shy of 17K lbs, with a pin weight of almost 3500lbs. With the extra couple hundred pounds for the hitch, a SRW 3500 would have been pretty much maxed out on the cargo. That's why I went Dually, with a cargo capacity of almost 5400lbs. Zero worries, and it pulls our 43 ft 5th wheel like a boss. We went from PEI to Cape Breton last summer, and some of those large hills on the new highway were a breeze. The exhaust brake did exactly as it should, and the up hill torque was great! My dad was a trucker for over 50 years, so I've been around big trucks all my life. And this thing pulls hard for sure!

Ford HO 6.7 is a hotrod compared to the Ram HO. It’s once they are loaded heavy that the tables turn. Ram is slow and steady and feels more in control

I've had both 6.7's and the Ford is faster and rides better unloaded. The 10spd shifts smooth and the truck pulls extremely hard.
You can tell the RAM doesn''t use aluminum. That thing is heavy and feels more planted than the Ford.
      Both of them tow great.

I have a 2019 3500 Limited HO/Aisen, and I believe they did the VB6 recall on mine in 2020 according to my Ram app, and the recall notice without the big Fanfare going on about the $1.7 Billion dollar fine that Cummins caught. When I got the truck back from the dealer then, I did notice it wasn’t as peppy, with my test being an entry ramp onto the expressway that whenever I get on, I always punch it, and it would zoom to 90 MPH and allow me to merge without so much as a hiccup, but now seems a little less peppy, and definitely more DEF use.

The current Federal Government through the EPA is going to look to lower the boom on all the Cummins Engines that were part of “diesel gate” I’m afraid. What’s worse, I could see a state like California going so far as to impose fines on owners who fail to complete the recall, or impounding the trucks altogether. They’re completely crazy over this stuff and the inmates are definitely free to run the asylum. Question is, how bad are the impacts of the changes going to be?

Either ram engine combo sucks.. The trans tuning from factory is terrible and it makes it feel super sluggish.. If you get the 4.10gears its not as bad, but the aisin trans literally feel like a CVT.. If you drive one of these back to back against a Ford or Chevy you would never buy a Ram.. Peak tq is 1350 but the aisin will not let it lug down there.. It will downshift before peak, lugging is what an I6 diesel is supposed to do yet it blows thru the convertor like crazy..

I would like to compare a new one with the higher HP and torque numbers along with the better gearing (3.42 vs 3.73) but with the prices of new trucks, I will not tempt feeling the need to upgrade! Not to mention, with only 50,000 miles on my '14, it is just getting broken in! I am curious what the new EPA mandated reprogramming might do to my trucks performance. Maybe you can take on this topic and give us your thoughts.

Hi, I'm a diesel mechanic from Ontario. To explain the cruise control, I believe Cummins call it "Cruise Control Upper/Lower Droop" you can play with these settings with Insite for large trucks (I don't work much with pickup trucks).
Lower Droop: allows the vehicle to speed up above the cruise control speed during downhill operation. This is done to gain momentum and take advantage of gravity to lower fuel economy after leveling out from the downhill drive.
Upper Droop: allows the vehicle's speed to drop below the cruise control set speed as load increases such as climbing a hill. The reason for this is also fuel economy, the engine won't boost up and use a lot of fuel on hill climbs. This is why your speed never reaches 110kph climbing up even though the truck is well capable of doing so!

@@TheGettyAdventurespayload on my 3500 SO is 4200 lbs, not an issue.
Aisin no doubt is a stronger, commercial type transmission. The 68rfe is fine if the truck and engine remain in the stock configuration. The 68rfe can be tuned where the Aisin can not be tuned.
Just depends what the consumer wants.
