Ralfy... You are awesome. My wife doesn't think so, since I have 11 bottles of scotch sitting in my liquor cabinet now as a result of your videos. I went overboard around Christmas time buying up different bottles you had recommended. So far two of my favorites have been the Uigeadail and A'bunadh. Definitely two of the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Would you consider making a list or doing a review of your top 5 bang for the buck whiskeys one day? Have a great day Malt Maestro.
Went into my local liquor store and this was highly recommended. Described to me as Christmas Dinner & Pudding rolled into a Scotch, big flavour, not cheap but absolutely brilliant. Brought this out after asking my future father-in-law for his permission to marry his daughter. He said yes and was WELL impressed with my selection. Not cheap but you have to try this beautiful Scotch. Not a scotch you would drink all night but definately the FINAL scotch of the night. Enjoy!
Simply an amazing whisky this! Got my bottle, which I decided to buy based on this here review of yours. Can't say that I'll ever regret getting acquainted with A'bunadh! Normally I go for more smoky and peaty stuff, like Laphroaig 10y.o / QC, Caol Ila or Ardbeg. This the first really strongly fruity whisky for which I've fell head on. Thanks Ralfy!
Hey Ralfy, just wanted to let you know I finally acquired a decent bottle of scotch. I had to wait 4 months, and take two buses and a train to pick it up, but I now have in my possession a bottle of Aberlour A'bunadh batch 38. If not for your assistance and the wealth of information you provide with your videos, I would still be stumbling in the dark, playing hit or miss and guessing. Thank you so much, perhaps we'll share a dram someday. Cheers :-)
Yep, I was thinking of the standard Macallan 12. They charge a bit much over here in the US, but the 18, which is also all-sherry, is usually quite good. At the price, though, the 18 can be a bit of a risk, as some years are far superior to others. I haven't tried a Macallan cask strength - I wonder if that would be closer to this A'bunadh.
Ralfy I want to personally thank you for your review of this whisky. I recently bought a bottle of batch 41 (on offer for £31 on waitrose) and it is heaven! Totally agree with your 91 rating!!
@ralfystuff So a cask strength whiskey will still be composed from multiple barrels but single barrel means, well, from a single barrel. I guess this explains why I don't see single barrel whiskeys in the store too often (I mostly see this term on rums actually). I would imagine those are more exclusive (and more expensive) than cask strength whiskey.
I just picked up a bottle of batch 36. Been meaning to try this one for quite some time. I actually found that I do enjoy the Aberlour 16 year old a little bit more, although A'bunadh is amazingas well! (just a different monster)
Bought some Aberlor 12 yr. a month and some ago and say a big thanks for this review. I've found myself drawn to this bottle every time I pour these days - it's so darned rich, with a very sweet and toffeed flavour floating on a nice complexity! The expression you review here is sitting on the shelf down the street from me, and will be moving here soon.
Just want to mention that Aberlour A'bunadh got new packaging around Batch 33 (I got a bottle of 34 so I'm not sure if it's 33). I'm also bringing this up because the new packaging is a bit more difficult to open now that the neck of the bottle is dipped in wax.
I would like for you to revisit this in the future as it was one of your early reviews you did not go into very much detail and also the whiskey changes slightly from batch to batch it also would be greatly interesting to do a vertical tasting of this and see if you can detect any changes thanks ralfy! Happy New Year to you. you are at almost 100 reviews and almost 100 subscribers great work indeed!
Im still new at Scotches , i tried this cause i notice you talked about it on a couple other videos as well ... and this is one of my favorites now ... thank you for the videos they help ...
I just bought my very first 10y Aberlour... I find the two big-boys of Speyside to be my common bar drink (this being of course the Big Glen brothers). But when I try Aberlour for the first time, I find it has a deeper flavor than the other two Speysiders. I am from Canada, and I find Aberlour shows some sweet characteristics I am used to tasting over here in the Americas... a note of rye, rum, and everything fun! My first impression of this is very high for a speyside.
@ralfystuff, just had a dram of this delicious whisky. It was fantastic with toffee and sherry overtones with a quite a fruity palate... Bottom line is that I enjoyed it very much. I also tried a Macallan cask strength, but imo it does not hold a candle to the A'bunadh. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on the Macallan cask strength. Are you planning on reviewing that any time soon?
Hey Ralfy...as distillers' quality varies over time, any plans on "re-reviewing" some of these expressions from the earlier videos to see if you would now give the same mark?
Ralfy, I've been watching your video reviews for a while now but came back to this one after purchasing a bottle of Aberlour 18 recently. Any plans to review other expressions in the Aberlour range?
"Cough mixture from heaven" - spot on. First time I tried it felt like a delightful uppercut, since then my favourite whisky. Must try Glenfarclas 105 also, thanks Ralfy!
Great advise. I just returned a bottle of this that I just paid £51 for at a local branch! Swapped it for a Lagavulin Distillers Edition instead until I can get myself to Waitrose. Online store doesn't appear to be working well at the minute.
I tend to prefer what I call 'maritime malts' - my favourite distilleries are Laphroaig, Old Pulteney and Highland Park (in that order). I wouldn't blame you if you're wrong, but would you recommend it to someone who normally drinks 'maritime malts', or is it just too far 'the other way'? I like to experiment, and this looks tempting!
IMHO the standard 12 yr is very nice; the 16 yr is wonderful; the newer 12 yr unchill-filtered ranks up there with the A'bunadh (however the newer 12 yr is the most expensive). Personally - I really like the 16 yr Aberlour.
Excellent review! I have Batch #15 and I believe it's one of the finest liquids I've ever tasted. Any recommendations on what a guy like me would love?
Thank you very much for the reply! I ordered a bottle of the 16yo yesterday along with a miniature 10yo (and too many other bottles!), and I can't wait to try either. The unchillfiltered 12yo sounds interesting, would you happen to know where I can find more info about it?
Ralfy: I just purchased a bottle of the A'bunadh and thoroughly enjoyed it. I note that the bottle I have is batch 23. It has a bit of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Is this unusual?
Ralfy, I am a new scotch drinker. My wife just bought me a bottle of Averlour A'bunadh for my 61st birthday. I have a question. Is this a Speyside or Highland whiskey or are they one in the same. The bottle says "Highland Single Malt" but the bottom of the bottle says "Aberlour Distillery, Speyside. Hope to hear from you. Thanks for your education concerning Scotch Malt Whiskeys. Adam
Just saw the re-review recently uploaded and, as Ralfy recommended, I went back into the files and sure enough here you are...a year younger at the most!....and the single biggest happy change since this very-early vlog? The natural evolution to longer messages. A voice will find its own form, as one of the Beats (I think it was Kerouac, maybe Ginsberg) observed years ago. Your "voice" has surely found itself and I believe the evidence is positive all around. Talk as long as it takes!
Went back to see this was batch 26. I have a batch 46 nearly finished (second bottle) and I believe they are up to 72. Tried a few in between but the 46 is still my favorite.
It's been a while since this review, so I have to ask... Since this review, which batches of Aberlour A'bunadh would you advise on avoiding? I've heard the 40 was a bit of a flop... Any other ones?
Ralfy Your fine videos here on You Tube have reignited my interest in Scotch after a couple of decades away...wasted a lot of time. Thanks for that mate and here is a Ralfy intro for you, "Hello there you maudlin, mad monotheistic malt-mark making mates!" Try that tongue twister. Cheers Leo
Ralfy, I finally tried this. Mind-bogglingly good. Are there any other exclusively 100% sherrried whiskies? I love my bourbon cask peated whiskies but this was pretty incredible.
cracked open a bottle of batch #34 last night... wow! it's amazing stuff... i'm liking it much more than my glenfiddich 15... at 59.5% ABV, it seems to be reasonable to add 1 part water to 2 parts whisky, although i prefer less water
Ralfy, I'm a beginner to scotch, I've been watching your reviews and I recently picked up this Aberlour A'bunadh and I really enjoy it. I also picked up the Ardbeg 10 year old and liked that as well. They are so different in smell and taste that it's hard to believe they are both in the same family of spirits. Could you recommend some other entry level scotches that will offer such a contrast in flavor? I'm living in Canada, so they may have to be commonly found. On to the next review!
Hi Ralfy, great review and thanks for all your reviews. So great. Any thoughts on A'bunadh #41? Love aberlour in general and thinking of taking the plunge but saw a couple bad reviews of the currently-available batch. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks again!
I enjoy Caol ila 12 but find Laphroaig too medicinal. Can you suggest a smoky and peaty whiskey with less of that band-aid/medicinal smell/taste? Thanks
Ralfy I wondered if you have current plans to review the Aberlour 16 year old? - at around £30 it strikes me as a healthy alternative to, eg the Glenfiddich range, with more complexity depth and quality - also bottled at 43%. It may make a more mellow and subtle alternative to those who find the A'bunadh a bit overwhelming.
Hi ralfy, can you recommend a aberlour cuvee Marie d Ecosse? I am new in the "Whisky World" and didn't drunk much, yet. How would you rate it? (just like you did it here in this review)
Hey Ralfy, once again, a question. What would you prefer, the A Bunadh or the Aberlour 18 y.o. ? I already had the Aberlour 15 y.o. and I really enjoyed it. Thanks all the great reviews.
got a wee dram of the batch 35 in my hand...first sip neat was like a sledge hammer to my tongue...I have no comparison to other batches so am interested to see if anyone else has a bottle from batch 35?
Hey Raffly, Enjoy you videos. Just tried Adunadh Batch 37 and loved it! A new favorite for me. Do you know if Aberlour adds die to their whisky's? Also, whats else might you recommend for one who likes this style?
hi ralfy, i bought this one the other day (same time as laproaig quarter cask). i really like it.... do you know how old it is? it annoys me that they sometimes don't say the age.
I have that bottle in my stash. I think I will move that bottle to the front of the queue. That's one of my high quality problems, "Which bottle to open up next?".
@huahuafish I am enjoying a batch 35 . It whispers Wild turkey whiskey to me , and is a very bourbony..It IS a VERY special whiskey . toffee ,floral warm and thouroughly enjoyable .
One of my favourites, just watched your video with Clive and the Russian ration pack. Really stupid question and not meant to offend but have you tried the Sainsbury's Speyside malt and do you know the distillery? Tried the tesco speyside and believe it made me ill (in small quantities even.).

Which Macallan? I've tried the 10 only and it's basically like Aberlour 10... blend of sherry and bourbon cask... at least that's what it looks/tastes like.
Blimey some bargains about. I can see this being an expensive month that I can't remember much of. Let me know if you find an Uigadail at a bargain price :)
Getting a bottle of this for Christmas... quite looking forward to it.
My favorite whisky of all types. It's amazing.
Ralfy... You are awesome. My wife doesn't think so, since I have 11 bottles of scotch sitting in my liquor cabinet now as a result of your videos. Very nice, thanks for reviewing this!

Sounds tasty I'll need to try it .
You were right on the HP 12 yo, and once again Ralfy you are right with the A'bunadh. Fantastic whisky.
Just want to mention that Aberlour A'bunadh got new packaging around Batch 33 (I got a bottle of 34 so I'm not sure if it's 33). I'm also bringing this up because the new packaging is a bit more difficult to open now that the neck of the bottle is dipped in wax.
Thanks! My first bottle of A'bunadh is on it's way!
Hey Ralfy, I realized that the first ever review you did was a Canadian single malt! Coming from Canada myself, I appreciate that!
Cheers
No that was his second review 😉
I would like for you to revisit this in the future as it was one of your early reviews you did not go into very much detail and also the whiskey changes slightly from batch to batch it also would be greatly interesting to do a vertical tasting of this and see if you can detect any changes thanks ralfy! Happy New Year to you. you are at almost 100 reviews and almost 100 subscribers great work indeed!
Picked up a Batch 29 today, curious to see what it's like once my poor stomach settles down
one of the absolute best sherry whiskys out there ! i love it so much
Ralfy I love this stuff. I got batch 28. I can't take my nose out of the glass. The instant I first smelled it I thought toffee, buttery, honey.
Im still new at Scotches , i tried this cause i notice you talked about it on a couple other videos as well ... and this is one of my favorites now ... thank you for the videos they help ...
Almost finished with batch 34. Fantastic. Delicious. Ugh can't believe it's already almost gone :(
Yes, I too wonder about the Macallan Cask Strength. They are extremely expensive in Ontario too. $100 for the 12 year, no thanks.
just bought the 2011 bottling and it was amazing. Very enjoyable malt experience. Bruichladdich 10 to be the next purchase
I just bought my very first 10y Aberlour... I find the two big-boys of Speyside to be my common bar drink (this being of course the Big Glen brothers). Nose : medicinal, sherried, dry fruit, fresh fruit, slightly Christmas pudding Mouth (with water): intense sherried malty syrup, toffee-mocha, Guatemalan rum, herbal, absinthe Mark: 91
"Cough mixture from heaven" - spot on.
First time I tried it felt like a delightful uppercut, since then my favourite whisky. Must try Glenfarclas 105 also, thanks Ralfy!
Have you ever reviewed the Aberlour 12 yr?...it is my fave "Everyday" scotch.....great value!
Great advise. I just returned a bottle of this that I just paid £51 for at a local branch! Swapped it for a Lagavulin Distillers Edition instead until I can get myself to Waitrose. Online store doesn't appear to be working well at the minute.

Ralfy, You are the best whisky reviewer on the UA-cam!
Googling confirms that Macallan's are sherry exclusive except for the "Fine Oak" which has some bourbon cask involved...
Thank you very much and merry christmas!
Indeed it is - and congratulations! (Not to mention good luck on the proposal!)
Excellent review!

I bought some of this today. I'm in Nova Scotia. It's 59% - a Canadian thing or did they change it? Batch 41 - I ain't complaining man that's strong.
Ralfy: I just purchased a bottle of the A'bunadh and thoroughly enjoyed it. I note that the bottle I have is batch 23. It has a bit of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Is this unusual?

Adam
@ralfystuff However as a cask strength whiskey, it's not chill-filtered correct?
sir I would like to know how long years we can keep a open bottile whisky and suggest some collectable whisky name.
Just saw the re-review recently uploaded and, as Ralfy recommended, I went back into the files and sure enough here you are...a year younger at the most!....and the single biggest happy change since this very-early vlog? Had to watch this, this one is my favorite
Tasty stuff. A friend of mine and i tasted this whisky this evening. Worth the $90 I paid for it.
Went back to see this was batch 26. I have a batch 46 nearly finished (second bottle) and I believe they are up to 72. Tried a few in between but the 46 is still my favorite.

Definitely gonna try this one.
How about Glen Elgin 1991 Cask Strength Signatory?
By "Spring !" do you prefer the Springbank, or just happy it's spring and motorcycle season??
I must agree. I got 4 bottles myself!
cracked open a bottle of batch #34 last night... wow! it's amazing stuff... i'm liking it much more than my glenfiddich 15... at 59.5% ABV, it seems to be reasonable to add 1 part water to 2 parts whisky, although i prefer less water
hey ralfy...
can you recommend Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition?
thank you!
Ralfy, I really liked the Glenmorangie Quinta Rubana. Can you recommend any other single malts matured in port pipes?
Enjoying a bottle of Aberlour 16 year presently...very delicious. My bottle of Abunadh should be here next week.
I am an Aberlour 10 year old fanatic fan!
Ralfy, I'm a beginner to scotch, I've been watching your reviews and I recently picked up this Aberlour A'bunadh and I really enjoy it. I also picked up the Ardbeg 10 year old and liked that as well. I enjoy Caol ila 12 but find Laphroaig too medicinal. Can you suggest a smoky and peaty whiskey with less of that band-aid/medicinal smell/taste? Thanks
Hi Ralfy, A'bunadh has this beautiful color. So do the other Aberlours. Does it have caramel? Or is the color from Sherry casks?
Ralfy I wondered if you have current plans to review the Aberlour 16 year old? - at around £30 it strikes me as a healthy alternative to, eg the Glenfiddich range, with more complexity depth and quality - also bottled at 43%. Hi ralfy,
can you recommend a aberlour cuvee Marie d Ecosse?
I am new in the "Whisky World" and didn't drunk much, yet.
How would you rate it? (just like you did it here in this review)
Which would you go for: Aberlour 16, Aberlour A'bunadh, or the Highland Park 18?
@ralfystuff Ralfy, I've also noticed whiskeys labeled as single barrel. For all intents and purposes is this the same as saying cask strength?
Hi Ralfy. How would you compare this fine A'bunadh to a Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength?
Hey Ralfy,
once again, a question.
What would you prefer, the A Bunadh or the Aberlour 18 y.o. ?
I already had the Aberlour 15 y.o. and I really enjoyed it.
Thanks all the great reviews.
@ralfystuff Cheers Ralfy, thanks for the advice, keep up the good work, these reviews are priceless for folks wanting to learn about scotch
got a wee dram of the batch 35 in my hand...first sip neat was like a sledge hammer to my tongue...I have no comparison to other batches so am interested to see if anyone else has a bottle from batch 35?
Hey Raffly, Enjoy you videos. Just tried Adunadh Batch 37 and loved it! A new favorite for me. Do you know if Aberlour adds die to their whisky's? Also, whats else might you recommend for one who likes this style?
What do you think of the Aberlour 12 y.o.? I just bought it, havent tried it yet. I was looking for the A'bunadh but they didn't have it where I live.
hi ralfy, i bought this one the other day (same time as laproaig quarter cask). i really like it.... do you know how old it is? it annoys me that they sometimes don't say the age.
I have that bottle in my stash. I think I will move that bottle to the front of the queue. That's one of my high quality problems, "Which bottle to open up next?".
Any idea on recent batches such as batch 44?
@huahuafish I am enjoying a batch 35 . It whispers Wild turkey whiskey to me , and is a very bourbony..It IS a VERY special whiskey . toffee ,floral warm and thouroughly enjoyable .
One of my favourites, just watched your video with Clive and the Russian ration pack.
Really stupid question and not meant to offend but have you tried the Sainsbury's Speyside malt and do you know the distillery? Tried the tesco speyside and believe it made me ill (in small quantities even.).
Hi Ralfy, Aberlour A'bunadh or Springbank 12 claret wood ??
Ralfy have you tasted the last batch 37?Is it as good as the one you are reviewing in this video?
Aberlour A'bunadh is on sale in Waitrose for £27.15 until 6th Nov, get in store or on their website!
ralfy -
I got a bottle of this a few weeks ago (batch 32, I think) and it's an utter revelation. The quality of this whisky is so high that I almost hate watering it - it's like swallowing delicious, hot little embers. I tend to see myself as a peat and smoke guy, but this whisky definitely has challenged that perception. Are there any similar malts (sherry bombs, I guess) you'd recommend in the same vein?
Ralfy, if not the A'bunadh, which expression of Aberlour is the one to get, in your opinion?
Cheers!
Which Macallan? I've tried the 10 only and it's basically like Aberlour 10... blend of sherry and bourbon cask... at least that's what it looks/tastes like.
Watching this is like going back in time :P
Much obliged!
Ralfy, what is your view on the Aber 10 y/o please? I have read your review but would love a more detailed response! best wishes.
it's my fav whiskey!!!!
i like it endlessly !
Did it drop 3 points in a few weeks?
Blimey some bargains about. I can see this being an expensive month that I can't remember much of. Let me know if you find an Uigadail at a bargain price :)
Do you still rate all of Aberlour's expressions highly? Is the 10 y.o. worth a go?
ABSOLUTELY BBBUUURRRIIFUULL
I hope I can get this in Canada
@ralfystuff
Why is that...other reviewers seem to like it just fine? Care to be more specific? Thanks.
Just looked on mysupermarket website, Lagavulin 16yo is down to £28 in asda right now.
@ralfystuff Thanks Ralfy, your the best.
“All of them are excellent and pretty well available.” Gee, how times have changed…
. . . changed big-time, for the worse.
