Excellent tip as always.
For real tight ones, I drill 2 holes in the top and use an adjustable spanner in the holes to spin the cap off.
Well done
That's a great idea thanks !
I just picked up a 05 Excursion 6.0 and the first thing I did was the Sinister Diesel blue spring mod and fuel filter cap! I’ll never have that issue.
Great video. 👍
Hells yeah!!!
Worked perfect for me! Thank you diesel family!
🫂🫂
The ol craftsman lives to tell another day!!!
Just tap it in
Just tap tap taparooo
Thanks a lot I bought my 2007 f250 6.0 came with a broken fuel filter now I know how to take it off 👍
Fug yeah!!!!
Love the six ohhhhhhhhh people hate them and they dont even own one them selfs LOL I started on a 6.4 and rebuilt a motor and still running strong my favorite engine.
Uggggh i hate 6.4s...dont care what condition their in....garbage....match & some petrol, poooof gone
Oh I've had to do that a couple of times...oddly in the trucks it's amazing how handy it is to be a left handed person...so much easier to smack the chisel I use to spin the cap off.
Leftys rule
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Oh hell yeah, especially when ya have to hammer something loose...the hammering hand...is on the correct side of the game to get things done!
AROD you make it seem so easy! Lol unfortunately I put my fuel cap back so it never come off!
I tried your method but it wouldn’t move at all! I ended up heating up my screwdriver to chisel the cap off... fun times! Then spending a couple of hours cleaning the bits out of the fuel bowl cuz I couldn’t get the banjo bolt off the fuel line.
Awe mannnnnn
Amen brother. Worked exactly as you described. Thanks. Mine was stuck but good.
Told ya! No B.S. HERE please share me
I’ve tried using this technique and I started chipping the bowl.. not too bad but enough that I don’t think it will seal anymore.. you made it look so easy😭I was watching the hammer and not where I was hitting and started digging into the bowl! Do you think it’s still good??
every tool has a hammer side. Learned that from Eric O.
I watch Eric myself great mechanic.
Angle grinder wrench works good smaller holes
Arod, hope Thanksgiving was good. Got my sticker, and you better believe they are going on the tool box. Thanks for the video as always. First time I did my fuel filter on my 6.0 used the 1/2" square and put a crack in it. Stopped and got the right socket to get it off. Still have that same cap no leaks... Got lucky.
Wheeeeeeew. Thanks buddy 👍👍
First!!! Thanks for the stickers. Primary fuel caps for 6.7s is another part I think should be stocked at all Ford dealers since they are notorious for breaking too. BTW how do you like the new tape recall on the Explorer seat metal frames? Gotta love them.
Your welcome mister!!! I haven't had 2 do 1 yet....
The ole hammer and chisel numerous times on the 6.0 gravy trains....what state are u in how many hours u flagging
Exactly what I have to do on my 7.3.
Thanks
Would it be wise to use these aluminum caps that are on ebay and Amazon? I have ram 2500 and hate this cap.
U cld.....ive worked on these kinds for 20+ years & they have been fine. Its the guys who think their GD lug nuts & tighten them toooooo much
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thanks.
Seems Ford/Navistar could have just made the cap aluminum to begin with...
Thanks for the video
Yepppp
Great video as always, but I’ve run into a problem with my 05 6.0 f-350 I’m not getting any fuel to the top bowl. I replaced the pump on the frame/ drivers seat. Still nothing, so I took the old one apart and it had a good amount of crud in it but top bowl was clean, it did it’s job. So I put air in the line going to top bowl clean. Suck fuel from the tank got fuel from the tank. Checked relays all good... not sure what to do next, any ideas 💡 lol... what can I do next? Thanks
Is the pump even working....
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod 1st thanks for the fast response, yes you can hear it, compared to the old 1 it’s like night and day.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod oh yah and not sure if this matters but I just installed a oem blue spring kit about 2 months ago
Hmmmm must have a vapor lock or something...shld be shooting fuel up to the engine...
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod my thoughts exactly. So I poured diesel into the top bowl, primed it 6-8 times still nothing. I’m thinking the fuel pump in the gas tank is junk, I did have it replaced around June, not sure if he used oem or not. Your thoughts on that?
I have a 2012 f450 with a p2457 and i gun it with a trailer loaded and not to much power i was looking at the inlet pressure at idle is at .0034 and when i put the foot to the floor the numbeers are 5.580 sometimes it goes to 6.457 on the inlet pressure.
Restriction....?
Ive always used an air chisel at the corner , walks it loose , never fails
Ive tried the looped rubber wrench which popped, i broke a 3 pronged (brand new) metal filter wrench with a leverage bar on my ratchet and mine still wont budge. I have a 6.4L. The nut broke off of the top of mine but honestly it feels like whoever had this b4 me put cement or thread locker on it. Its that freaking tight. I may try heating a philips head and sticking it all the way through to turn it that way as a last resort
Great that helps! Now to figure out how to get the bottom one (on the rails) off. Dern thang is stuck too. :^)
Cmonnnnnnn
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Yeah got it all fixed. Thanks! Bottom one was just a case of the right tool for the job. 1st the drain (relieve the pressure) then a hinged ratchet and right size socket (Slow & patience). Also getting the weep hole in the correct posit on the btm filter helps. I do believe i over tighten the top filter last time. It only says 14 right on top. Doh 🥴
Thanks but my issue is when we pulled out the filter the valve spring was stuck in the filter and broke off. How do you change this part. We got on from the Ford dealership.
Unbolt it...
Do you remove the entire housing or if it from the inside
Look @ the new part. Shld be able to figure it out. I have a fee, if you want me to walk ya thru, gotta pay up ....
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod ok thank you for your time if we can’t I will get back with you.

Man this was a MFER! I ended up using a Screw Driver and hammer to notch it a long. No matter how much impact, nothing and eventually it stripped. This is a great idea but I couldn't afford to destroy mine as we needed to reuse it right then and there.
Good tip brother!
Good tip you recommend the Dorman brand cap ?
Anything Dorman is garbage. I mean everything!
Thanks for your gelp.
Damn brother like a pro! 👍
Woooooowoooooo
A-Rod,How's it goin' Boi?Love using the Snap-On flip socket on these. When the top isn't all chowdered up of course. ;)Anywerds, keep choochin' out these Productions before the wulchers get ya,-Adrenacyde
I had to do that with toyota's stupid plastic oil filters. Also how tall are you. I notice you almost hover over powerstrokes.
6.oh feet
Good video ARod
There is an aluminum replacement cap available on Amazon.
Wish I had watched this video earlier. I tried to cut the cap in half with a sawzall 🤪. I ended up cutting the bowl in half as well 😩. Just ordered a used one on ebay $65. 😰. Lately I've been breaking more things than fixing.
Awwwww
I took mine to a shop last time and apparently they decided it needed 27lbs of dang torque, needless to say I tried this and I’m not having the best of luck. I’m actually getting chips and splits. What’s the best way to get the cap off from this point?
Keep at it bud. Ull get it. Try usin a real crisp flat head screw driver.
PowerStroke Tech Talk w/ARod I guess I’m just worried I’ll mess the housing up(tank), thanks for a quick response though.
Np, i understand
I’ve tried using this technique and I started chipping the bowl.. not too bad but enough that I don’t think it will seal anymore.. you made it look so easy😭I was watching the hammer and not where I was hitting and started digging into the bowl! Do you think it’s still good??
Yeaaa
Thanks you !!!
Hope it worked
I’ve had to use that method on other things, such as wheel locks with no key...
Check my other videos, i showed how to remove wheel locks for that issue.
Why was there no fuel in the bole. When you took out that filter? Asking for a friend. Lol
Because i had just did fuel injectors prior to replacing the fuel filters....when you do that fuel drains out the engine mounted lines which in turn drained the bowl...
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod ok thanks I have an early o4 I have owned for 4 years and it's never ran good I have a crank no start rite now
Gotta get a scan tool homie
@@jamesriggs4858 did u found out why its empty is it a bad fuel pump?
Boom shock a laka!!!
I tightened that with my fingers.
I did everything possible from this video and comments and still stuck. I drilled a hole for the flat head to move easier, nothing sprayed lube still nothing.
Whaaaa
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod yeah unfortunately the dealership will have to finish the job tomorrow :/
Okay guys, I have tried and failed on all attempts to date. Using a chisel or screwdriver as suggested in this vid was a massive failure. Here's why! After over 200K miles of V8 engine heat under that hood, my secondary fuel filter cap is extremely brittle. I began just like Homer shows us in this vid and a huge chunk of "plastic" went flying off leaving the top of the metallic filter chamber very nearly exposed. Obviously, this was just the next fail in a long series of attempts. What happens when the entire cap explodes and shrapnel goes down inside the filter well??? I do not want to know. I have ordered a chain wrench with BARBS on the business side so we'll see how that goes. I have very little hope as there is literally nothing to grab onto. I have a new metallic cap ready to replace the old POS but will it ever happen???
....well if you weren't such an influential Homer advocate you would have been able to successfully remove the cap as you saw in this 5+yr old video which was obviously a waste of your time. Enjoy round two M.C.
There's a much easier way. I should do a vid.
That intro made me want to leave the video immediately
Excellent
Yes I agree with the moving of the camera quickly
Craftsman abuser.
