Simple & to the point! Thanks for the Video. I'm going to do my Dad's super duty, he wants me to take it to the Ford dealer. I don't want to waste $, I'd rather put in a little time & do it myself.
I watch this before each time I change my oil! I'm finally going with the 5w40 synthetic. She rough starts sometimes I think the new oil will help with that.
James Tyree II Actually I always do open the top but to save time on the video I didn't show the section where I went back to the drain right after opening the top. Maybe I should have shown it on the video to prevent any confusion. Either way it is not that huge of a deal to open the top later, it may save a little drain time. Hope you got something out of the video, Thanks for watching.
Great, great idea with adding oil through the oil filter area. Thanks for sharing. Why didn't you put all 14 or 15 quarts through the oils filter area, though?
There may not be a legitimate reason but in my mind just to make sure oil has gone into all the correct places. Also the opening for the oil filter is much larger than the oil fill hole.
I just changed my oil with this video. How much oil is recommended to put in where the oil filter goes? I just put in 10 quarts there and then the remaining quarts in the engine oil refill area.

Good video. I have a 6.0 as well, and after you run it when filling with 15 quarts, it will again need another quart (because the filter will hold one to stay full until removed). So for anyone else with a 6.0, you can just put in 16 quarts right off the bat instead of saving one quart from the gallon bottle.
The owner's manual calls for 15 quarts of oil for an oil change including a filter. Putting 16 quarts in may overfill so I will stick with the recommended 15 quarts as I have for the life of the vehicle. Thanks for watching.
I ended up putting 16 in mine since an engine work shop made a note on the fan shroud that says "16 qts" but after checking it, it is overfilled, but not by much
Question, about how much of the oil do you pour down the Oil filter hole? About how many quarts do you pour down that way before you pour down the oil cap. Thanks
@@funbro1 Thank you for the feedback. If i can ask another question, i just bought a 6.0 because of my job. Im new to owning a diesel. My water pump is going bad and my truck started to overheat. Turns out im low on Coolant due to the Water pump going bad. The pump I ordered, the OEM one takes a week to arrive. So I’ll just be filling the coolant to the level until it gets here. But im sorry if i sound dumb, but do I pour coolant down the Coolant reservoir? Apparently a buddy told the coolant goes through there, apparently theres no Radiator cap on these. Im sorry for sounding dumb but im learning as i go. And your videos really help me alot. 👍
According to the Service Manual. You don’t need to pour any oil into the filter housing. With the cap off the spring opens. And the oil is just being poured into the pan.
While it is true you do not have to pour oil into the oil filter housing it is a larger hole than the fill tube is and it is another opening that can be used to fill the vehicle with oil. Thanks for watching.

I would recommend the warmer the better just to get the most oil to flow out of the engine. With that being said you will need to wait a few minutes for gravity to do it's job and let the oil drain from the engine into the pan. Also if you are changing the oil "hot" or very warm I would definitely suggest gloves. Thanks for the question, and Thanks for watching.
Great video, simple and to the point. I just bought the truck from a friend and it's gonna be the first time doing it, now I feel prepared to do it. What additive, if any would you recommend for the oil, and also for the fuel? Thanks How to Bob.
I guess everything you did was fine even though you didn't release the filter tube first but since you didn't redo the drain plug it work. You should of shown you starting it then letting it settle then check the dip stick. That would be a perfect oil change on a 6.0
Hopefully it doesn't use any oil that would mean the engine is worn, although it should hold 15 quarts unless you have a bypass filter added which will take a little more.
So I guess removing the oil filter at 1:01 in the video does not release any pressure??? I'd sure like to hear Ford explain that. Not sure what your going after. Hopefully this video was able to help you out. Thanks for watching.

You may have a NAPA gold cap. I believe those come as an assembly - ie the filter is glued to the cap. DO NOT pull out the NAPA filter and put a new one in. The NAPA caps are not re-usable. If you put a stock filter in the NAPA cap, which is slight taller, the oil filter seats further into the taller cap, giving it a shorter length overall. Then it wont depress the oil plunger in the bottom of the housing. IMO get a new CAP that fits a standard filter. The stock filter should "snap", or seat, into the cap. When you put a filter in a NAPA cap the filter doesn't snap solidly into place. It kind of wabbles, because it was originally glued. Those caps don't have the seating to hold the filter like the original caps do.
You can put all the oil in the filler hole if you would like. But why? I feel this way more oil gets to different parts of the engine. Thanks for the question.
