I can take a lot more priming but does work it all depends on how much air you have let get in your line, I had Inadvertently left the drain plug open too long on the horizontal fuel filter my truck started fine drove for about a block an stalled, one and a half hours later after many priming sessions hoping that was all that it was it finally started, the reason for my optimism was it was giving signs that it wanted to start but would stop after holding the ignition on but careful not to burn out the starter good thing I had another vehicle that I was boosting from my minivan

I had to remove the upper fuel filter cap and let the air out with the small fuel filter out to fill up the bowl..took 10 minutes with the key on and off several times to get fuel primed and the air out from the pump up to the secondary fuel filter bowl. Once it filled up, i put the filterback in, cycled the key several more times, and it finally started up...

Another great episode. This is great if you run out of fuel too. Treat it as a fuel filter change.

So to just give everyone a heads up all international engines like the 6.0 7.3 dt466 and another dt engine arent common rails. So that means you dont have to worry about bleeding air out of the fuel line on these engine. Plus if you really were worried about it the 6.0 has a electrical fuel pump. Plus the fuel side is only at pressures of 75 psi. The injectors in these engine are hwui injectors short for hydralic. The high presure is on the oil side. So the oil gets up to 5000 psi because of this. If you do anything with the high presure oil system then you will be bleeding air out of it. But its really easy just start the truck and go drive it like you stole it for a couple miles.. Your common rails engines are your duramaxes, cummins, ford 6.6, Detroit, cat, and TDI engines. I'm sure I'm missing alot more.

You still want to prime and bleed the air out otherwise it will run like shit ask me how I know I own a 6.0 . You are correct about running it like you stole it to bleed air out but you want to prime and bleed as much out as possible before doing so. Running it like that only bleeds out what air you didn’t get out during the original priming after replacing filters or doing any fuel maintenance work.

Hey brotha! Let the engine to purge air trough the return line back into the tank before you drive it. Engine might run like crap until fuel system purged completely.

I have found that if you fill the bowl with fuel and leave the filter and cap off after cycling the key a few times fuel will flow back to the pump when it shuts off. Repeat 2 or three times and you will hear the pump finally prime.

There is no such thing as priming a fuel system on a 6.0. You have a high presure oil problem bro

Changed both filters, primed it by cycling the key a few times, fired up then died after about a minute of idling. Cycled the key 10+ more times in 30 second intervals, and I can’t get it to run. Any help would be appreciated!

      Hey Phil.
Do you have fuel up to secondary filter? Do you hear the prime pump running when IGN key turned ti the ON position? Remove secondary(under the hood) filer cap to verify the fuel on low pressure side.
Does based engine oil pressure gauge show any pressure while cranking?
How many PSI of high oil pressure do you have during the cranking? Should be at least 500 PSI for engine to fire up?

    • @DOPEMANCHEW

What else is going on with your motor? I promise it's not a fuel issue

@@PistonShack Not sure, the dummy gauge on the dash is showing right in the middle. My truck is facing down on a decline so I am hoping the quarter tank of fuel I have is getting retrieved by the pump. I may try the blue/yellow wire crank trick tomorrow.

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  2 роки тому

If you have base oil pressure (low pressure oil pump) after 5-10 seconds of cranking you should see oil pressure gauge respond and arrow should be on the middle. That's good.
Do you have any fuel getting to the fuel at the secondary fuel filter bowl? Do you have tachometer reading while cranking?
Try to unplug ICP sensor, if ICP senor is defective engine won't start due to the faulty oil pressure readings by unplugging it ECU will switch to default mode.

The truck in this video has something else wrong with it. When you change your fuel filters it should never start like this. Mine always starts fine after changing the fuel filters. You don't have to turn the key a shit load. Just 2 times and you will be gravy baby.
