    I have to say, that this is by far, the very best rendition, of "Terror by Night", on UA-cam. Superb audio and visual, a fitting tribute to Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, this later entry to the series, was one of the very best put forth by Universal Studios. Totally agree.
      I’ve always felt that Rathbone’s interpretation of Holmes was true to the stories by Conan Doyle.
      But the portrayal of Watson as an idiot and a buffoon was not at all true to the original character.
      The movies were entertaining, but the portrayal of Watson by Nigel Bruce was cringe inducing for fans of the books.

    I'm not sure just what it is about a crime thriller set on a moving train, it's something I've never been able to put my finger on it, all i know is that there is something undeniably "relaxing" (for want of a better word) about these classic movies, they Never get old. Black & white movies by their very nature are so calming especially during the horrible wet & cold weather we are blessed with here in Britain, a nice warm fire, wrapped up in a fleece blanket and a classic black & white crime thriller/horror movie and you're guaranteed a warm & cosy hour of sheer entertainment. I have this fantastic Sherlock Holmes series of films starring the brilliant Basil Rathbone already on dvd but when i saw this on youtube i had to watch it as it's been a few years since I've seen these. • @matthewheaton9700
      @matthewheaton9700 2 роки тому +1

      Indeed. I, particularly like The Hound of The Baskervilles. Baskerville Hall (in the book), was based upon 2 places, one, I forget where but the other was Hayford Hall which was just up the road from where I used to live in Lower Dean, South Dartmoor. So, The Hound of the Baskervilles means a lot to me. I love Dartmoor. I'm honestly not sure which version I like the most, Basil Rathbone's, Jeremy Brett's, Richard Roxburgh's or Matt Frewer's. They are all good for different reasons and cover different aspects that others leave out. The Richard Roxburgh one with John Nettles is really good overall but Richard wasn't my favourite Sherlock however, he wasn't bad at all. I can't decide who the best Sherlock is though, either Jeremy Brett or Basil Rathbone I'd say but that's simply my own opinion.
      You should try walking across Dartmoor during the night. I don't believe in anything supernatural but one has to be especially mindful at times like that. You could be walking along, unable to see your hand when it's touching your nose. All these noises that you've never heard are everywhere and so loud! All of a sudden your feet are wet..."Am I in a river? Will I drown any second?" Then you fall into mud and gorse getting cut to ribbons. Oh my God! There are horses in my face! They all spook and you are begging that it was only you that spooked them.
      The whole time you're thinking "it's not real, it's not real." All the while you're thinking that the Hound will pounce any second!
      The worst of course, is when your eyes start playing tricks on you and you think there's actually someone there until you realise it's just your brain. You come across a figure in the dark..."oh, it's just my brain".
      "Hello!"
      "Aaargh!"
      Why would they be walking their dog at 3am? Just to scare me.
      It definitely induces fear even during the day. It's so barren. That's why I like it.
      Anyway, I shall shut up now. I hope you enjoy more mystery stories. Take care.

    There's not a wasted moment in these Sherlock Holmes Mysteries of Rathbone and Bruce. In between an hour and seventy-five minutes everything you will need to see, hear and know comes at you at a quick and measured pace. I like that.
