My girlfriend and I searched fruitlessly for a good film last weekend. We came upon this gem and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great story and cast. Thank you for sharing this. She was just about to put on a Hallmark movie. Saved me from an excruciating evening.
Yeah, me and my mom found it while watching old ads on UA-cam. After watching the first five minutes, we weren't impressed but continued. SO glad we did, it's now my favorite movie it's an absolute treasure.
Has held up incredibly well. My kids are getting into murder mysteries and wanted to see a classic, but I wasn't sure how a 78 year old film made before my own father was born would go. It was a big hit, scary, funny, and thrilling. There are films from five years ago that haven't aged this well.
I've seen the series. I suppose the most recent version of the story, on BBC-first, couple of years ago. It was done in the most horrific way. Not gory or something, on the contrary. But the feeling of dread through that whole series. Of course I do know the whole Ten Little Niggers story behind it, which was changed into Ten Little Soldiers and then into And then there were none. If I'm not mistaken. Good to see that sometimes political correctness is important. I'm 60, and when I think about some things I wrote in other girls poetry albums...aweful. Without realising that, of course. I'm gonna give this version a go!!
Thank you so much for uploading this wonderful film. Much like the Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce ‘Sherlock Holmes’ films I never get tired of it. I’ll often put one of those or this one on when I’m folding laundry or working on some Warhammer 40K minis or whatever, and I’ll often put one of them on to fall asleep to. This adaption is just fantastic. The actors and actresses were all excellent - they might seem to modern audiences to be a little silly or that the cast is overacting but that was how films were back then because that’s what the audience enjoyed. The novel itself is excellent and I am hoping that it will get a faithful adaptation in the next few years since there’s been an Agatha Christie resurgence with the Hercule Peroit movies. This adaptation has a very different ending because the audience back then didn’t like such bleak endings, and I personally prefer this ending to the ending of the novel! I hope that the many millions of people who have not seen this film, the Rathbone and Bruce ‘Sherlock Holmes’ films, and other great films that are pushing ever closer to being a hundred years old will watch these films, fall in love with them, and keep them alive and well for later generations to enjoy!
I was 7 year old when I first watched this movie, now I'm 55 and watched it again. The movie evoked all attached memories attached to it belongs to 48 years ago.
"Everyone has to eat a peck of dirt before he dies." My dad said this quote to me when I was 6 or 7yrs old. I took it the wrong way - I didn't want to die too soon so I became a clean freak, for life. Now that I am seventy, I have to laugh at that little girl. Many times I have wanted to share it with him, but he died of cancer when I was nine. Thank you for sharing all of these great oldies.
I have learned that if you keep everything sterile then you often get sick more than others because you are not used to germs. My dad never cared about cleaning and the only time his home was clean was when I visited him with years in between and the man was never sick not even a cold or headache and though he has smoked 40 cigarets most of his life and he drank a lot the man is still alive and 83 years old. Now for the last few years he has had home helpers who comes and cleans his home for him:) But let me say he walked to and from work every day and it was a long walk and would go for rides on his bicycle and was always a skinny man. I think all that fresh air he got did him good and using his body. He is now almost blind and still goes out on his handicap 3 wheeler and stays out 3 hours every time.
Love this movie, I was a teenager when I first watched it. I’m 65 and have always been a fan of Barry Fitzgerald but my admiration for Walter Houston grows! Sierra Madre and Dodsworth. Also great films!
Hard to believe that this film was made just over 80 years ago, yet it still maintains its brilliant story-line of horror and humour. I have seen this before, a few times in fact, but I still enjoy it, even though I know the outcome. Excellent casting as well. Incredible that it's been kept in as pristine condition as possible for its age.

"Very Stupid to Kill the Only servant in the house.... Now we don't even know where to find the Marmalade....." One of the Best Lines of Dialogue to ever be said in a Film.
This is a charming rendition. It does change it to a happy ending and making several of the people not guilty unlike the book, but it does have Christie's cleverness.
It's based on the stage version, which Christie also wrote. She usually changed something when she adapted her work for the stage, so that even the people who had read the book would be surprised.
@@yoduk4588 Yes, thanks, was wondering about that. This alternate ending shows what the original does not - the flaws in vigilante justice. They get it wrong sometimes. And more often than official justice, with its safeguards that lessen (not eliminate) the chance of a mistake.
@@maggiesmith856 In particular, she changed the ending for this stage adaptation because it was premiered in World War 2. London was getting bombarded nightly by the Germans, with people being killed every night. Christie wisely decided that her audiences wouldn't want a downbeat ending.
Great! Shame we seem to have forgotten to make films for people who like to think, every time I choose who was the Baddy they died, curse that pesky Agatha Cristie. What an asolute Jem. Thanks.
Yeah I really liked that they changed up the ending. Makes it it's own thing especially when book readers are going into it thinking they'll know how it ends up.
Fell in love with Agatha Christie by way of this movie when I was young. It was back when I had two channels for tv and a bored time on summer vacation. What a famous cast and their best character acting.
Every time I watch this, I notice something different. When the gentlemen introduce themselves, for a moment, each one stares directly into the camera... I love that....
I am no expert on actors/actresses, classic movies or things like that. In the mid 90s I read the book in high school and watched the movie after in part of a school assignment. Both easily became favorites for its twists at every turn when you think you have solved the mystery. A remake would be great, but this classic should never be touched. Pure perfection! Thank you for sharing.
I love this world. It's a not-so-guilty pleasure to be steeped into such a rich and intriguing world. A "Classic" in every sense of the word. "Simplicity is Greatest Form", my father taught me this and it couldn't be anymore true in this marvelous instance. This motion picture is a true pleasure for the unintiated and for mystery veterans alike.
Absolutely love this film, great actors and a brilliant storyline from one of the best writers, the great Agatha Christie. Great quality. Thank you for sharing.
❤ Remember this from the b&w tv in my parents room. Particularly love how everyone was so perfectly coiffed after the harrowing Weekend. ❤ Hollywood. Thanks again Pizza. ❤ YOU. ☮️
First time watching it today. What a fun movie! Instead of just counting the minutes to see which character dies next, we get so many charming moments from each and every victim. And the ending is absolutely perfect :DD
Well, I read the novel (under the original name) and it ended differently. But that was a bit harder to put into the movie. The book was read in class. Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.
Once it was understood that everyone was invited under false pretenses and were being hunted, why did Rogers continue on in his role as butler? He wasn't beholden to an employer anymore.
@@renzo6490 It is because he was forced to obey the social class rules from birth. The sad fact is that if you come from a poor family, and your father was a butler, they teach you that your life duty is to provide for your employer. It works the other way around as well. Most of the guest were murdered, because they believe in the rigid British class system - They didn't believe that a person who is a judge - a most respectable profession - could ever be a murderer. That is Christie's whole idea - If Rogers hadn't been forced to act on his role as a lower-class servant, he wouldn't have been murdered so easily.
@@georgimihailov4906 ....but, how was Rogers murdered? He wouldn't open the door for the 4 gents. How did the killer get into the barn to kill him? Guess that he must have broken in & because Rogers who never drank must (having downed everyone's glass and more later) have fallen into an extremely deep slumber and never heard the noise.
Thank you for letting the public watch this delightful classic. All the performers were at the top of their game in this excellent production. This was my first time seeing the film. I've just watched Our Man Godfrey, and the Mischa Auer/ Ochi Chornya connection brought me here.
Very few films have ever mixed humor and mystery so effectively. This movie which I saw on the Late Late Show, made me an Agatha Christie fan for life. Damn, she was clever!
J's Mom: This movie is classically wonderful. New movies have no class or mystery, let alone acting! I intend to search for even more of these black and white mysteries with the writing, actors, direction, etc that make these charming movies. Thank you, thank you..............None of the newer pieces of sh^^. Again, THANK YOU!!!! I love this intriguing mystery------------I am searching for more!!
I'm totally new to this movie era, but: the title, the fonts, Agatha Christie, the sea waves perfectly combined with the enganging music, the house at the back... At 10" I knew I'd watch it all, and I loved it! Please recommend me other classics like this. Thanks!
I've spent the lockdown watching old movies (the newest ones from the early 60s, you know, classic Hollywood). I've wathed close to 50 now, and this is one of the best! Top 5, I'd say.
I just saw this for the first time ever yesterday, and I love it!I had to re watch it a few times to really understand a few things, and to get just how brilliant of a film it really is!Great actors!I think the one person in this film who really rubbed me the wrong way and deserved what she got was the witch who sent her nephew to a reformatory and he hanged himself! She just was acted so aloof,so cold, like she had nothing to do with his death, and just didn't care at all! What a witch,I was glad when she got hers!
They tried to remake this years later and it was a Flop. The Old classics have the Significant cast members that can Not be repeated. Its like trying to catch lightening. Thank you for posting this. Watching and sharing from the Philippines.
I believe I have seen every version of this novel by every title, and this is by far the best. It has more elements of humor to break up the really frightening atmosphere. Superb performances by everyone in the cast.
This version really gets on with the tale. Precious little exposition. Fast pace. That's both good and bad. The novel has infinitely more detail, leading some film versions to get bogged down in it. OTOH, this version simply didn't engender fear - or much emotion of any sort. It was so terse, and we were whipped so quickly from place to place, that I was largely unable to suspend disbelief.
Saw this movie years ago,. Thank you. For letting me enjoy it again,, you. Made my day and my night,,, enjoy these movies so much,,. Can't afford the theatre💗💗💗💗💗
I watched this movie with my mom when I was a kid. It was the late late show feature and I fell asleep. Next day, my mom told me the rest of the story and told it so vividly that I felt I had actually seen the rest of the movie. Her describing it to me has stayed with me all these years. She was a great storyteller.
The novel is darker and in my opinion is AChristie's best murder mystery. on the other hand this movie is lighter, and the ending is different from the book but still an excellent movie, the actors, the screennwriting, the photography everything about is is just brilliant. Loved it!
But the people at the studio who determined how the film would end allowed the two romantic leads to survive....Agatha Christie killed them all off. Since this is the most successful of her novels in terms of sales and is one of the best selling books ever published with 100 million copies sold, you’d think they would have used her ending which is far superior to this. But no! 100 million people couldn’t be right!
@@voraciousreader3341 they always interfere with the plot. I have never read and love a book which remains untouched as a script. Personally I hate it. There' is a modern BBC I think production in which the development is closer to the book. That's why, Agatha killed Poirot and gave strict instructions to be published only after her death.
It's based on Christie's play adaptation in which the two leads survived. This was based on the play and not the novel. Russians did an adaptation based on the novel.
The judge was suitably sinister from the start, but really priceless was the butler in his performance of drunkenness and offended dignity: "How can I be accused of murdering anybody who has not left me any money!"
Hello! Seventeen and co-Carat brought me here, I was watching Going Seveteen and saw some of the comments mentioned that the episode was kinda inspired by this movie/book. I successfully found it here, so yeah i'm watching it 💕
Same! And I always wonder if any of those objects still exist. I guess a lot of them were thrown to the garbage, others used in other movies, maybe one of them sits collecting dust in a film studiuos warehouse, maybe at an antiquary... or, again, just turned into actual dust at this point.
@Flenif2247 yeah well I meant it because of the sentimental value because the objects were in the movies and I feel curious about their fate. Not because I care about plastic or not
Haven’t seen this movie for a very long time. I had forgotten the ending. This movie was made when movies were great, too bad they don’t make them like this anymore.
Well, it wasn't who I was thinking it was going to be. The movie got me. There were many more comedic bits than I was expecting. It was definitely worth the watch.
Back during my English class in High School, along with questions to answer, our final bonus question was basically who did it? Almost everyone answered the same person, and we were all wrong!
This version, although not completely faithful to the book, is really good. The actors are great and the pacing is perfect. One of the big changes that this film made was the ending, which is altered from the books ending. They chose to go with a happy ending. But in 1945, I doubt test audiences wanted to see a story with a bleak ending where everyone dies.
Good grief!! I cannot remember the first, nor last, time I saw this movie! Thanks so much for your upload(?) "You can not lock out the Devil...!" !Cheers from down under!

Great! Shame we seem to have forgotten to make films for people who like to think, every time I choose who was the Baddy they died, curse that pesky Agatha Cristie. What an asolute Jem. Thanks.
This is my favorite version of my favorite Agatha Christie novel. I've watched it many times on Saturday afternoon.
Read the book in college...this film is an excellent adaptation and portrayal...great movie for a rainy Sunday afternoon. Thanks for sharing.
Yes
Read the book and then watch the 2015 BBC miniseries.
They changed the beginning and the end of the book in the film. I like the ending of the film and the beginning of the book.
Yes, perfect!
Yeah I really liked that they changed up the ending. Makes it it's own thing especially when book readers are going into it thinking they'll know how it ends up.
One of the greatest whodunnits ever made. The characters, atmosphere, set designs etc are just fabulous.
I'm not even 5 minutes in and I know this will be a great movie
Black and white movies are the best 👌😍
Don't bother with "The Ninth Guest", a similar story. Very tedious. 🐢
Oh yeah the best:-):-):-):-):-):-)
Agree
Chakka Chewy Agreed!!!!
Watch tormented
I am no expert on actors/actresses, classic movies or things like that. In the mid 90s I read the book in high school and watched the movie after in part of a school assignment. Both easily became favorites for its twists at every turn when you think you have solved the mystery. A remake would be great, but this classic should never be touched. Pure perfection! Thank you for sharing.
It's been remade many times, most recently the BBC miniseries, which uses the ending in the book.
Here after reading the novel and seeing the most recent adaption. Truly Agatha’s most chilling, grim, mystery.
Absolutely love this film, great actors and a brilliant storyline from one of the best writers, the great Agatha Christie. Great quality. Thank you for sharing.
So wonderful to watch this movie again, a testimony to quality story telling 🙌
Great cast and a fun watch. But. Wow I never realized what a rich, melodious voice Walter Huston had!
Awesome movie with a stunning ending!! Agatha never disappoints
Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.
in all these years this is the 1st time ever that i watched a Agatha Christie film & i enjoyed so much, i will be watching many more after this one
How wonderfully old fashioned - they are dropping like flies but the men still remember to wear a tie!
and their best manners and grammar
Just as proper ladies and gentlemen should behave
His exit out the window was his highlight.
Very few films have ever mixed humor and mystery so effectively. This movie which I saw on the Late Late Show, made me an Agatha Christie fan for life. Damn, she was clever!
Maybe the Thin man series is the only one I've seen do it so effectively
You would never guess what the original British title of her novel was: It was NOT "Indians".@@snapmalloy5556
Just finished the book, and here I am. A TRUE masterpiece 👏
The book is great.
Does the film live up to the book?
@@krmccarrell No. Specially the ending.
@@LauRa-re9un Awh that's too bad. Thanks for your reply though!
@@krmccarrell Welcome! I suggest you read it or I can tell you if you want to. :)
I haven’t seen this movie in decades!!!! I actually forgot all about it till I saw the title!!! Many thanks 🤠🤠
I'm totally new to this movie era, but: the title, the fonts, Agatha Christie, the sea waves perfectly combined with the enganging music, the house at the back... At 10" I knew I'd watch it all, and I loved it! Please recommend me other classics like this. Thanks!
Rogers: "Shove it!....under the door." Subtle, very subtle. ;)
I never get tired of watching this film.
I've spent the lockdown watching old movies (the newest ones from the early 60s, you know, classic Hollywood). I've wathed close to 50 now, and this is one of the best! Top 5, I'd say.
I have 6 generations of my family that have watched this.🤗. It brings back memories from long ago THANK YOU.❤️
Old movies are out of this world as acting style ! Great actors!
No swearing or nudity 👍almost a comedy in some parts ,good viewing when I saw Agatha Christie I tuned in thank you for this 😍
I just saw this for the first time ever yesterday, and I love it!I had to re watch it a few times to really understand a few things, and to get just how brilliant of a film it really is!Great actors!I think the one person in this film who really rubbed me the wrong way and deserved what she got was the witch who sent her nephew to a reformatory and he hanged himself! She just was acted so aloof,so cold, like she had nothing to do with his death, and just didn't care at all! What a witch,I was glad when she got hers!
One of the most popular films on PizzaFLIX! Thanks for watching. May the Sauce be with you.
Read the book and your opinion will change.
Just the movie to watch on a cold, rainy and quiet wintery February Sunday afternoon.
To day is Monday, September 2021 how odd
The Classics. No substitute. Thank you
Pizza Flix means quality! You and this channel are UA-cam's highest quality for me. Thank you, please keep up the good work.
🍕Thanks Apricot Cookie🍕
They tried to remake this years later and it was a Flop. The Old classics have the Significant cast members that can Not be repeated. Its like trying to catch lightening. Thank you for posting this. Watching and sharing from the Philippines.
I've never had the pleasure to say this before:
What a charming movie!
I Love when: The Butler says"'and i can't drink even a drop of Alcohol"' Proceeds to make up for lost time!
Even the Russian version? Found it last night. Watched with the sound off and subtitles on .
The best adaptation/version of Agatha's marvelous novel ever done (in my opinion), thanks for the upload
In my Opinion, the most accurate is the 2015 version followed by the Russian Version
Nothing better than the old flicks. ❤
Couldn’t agree with you more, I always watch them, they take me back to a far nicer time.
Watched as a kid with my dad.
Many moons later still love this movie.
I used to watch the old Basil Rathbone S.Holmes with my Dad in the late 70's...Dads 88 now n like a young un...
Good memories...thanks
I watched it with my.Mom. Excellent movie and.made a fond memory sharing this movie which we both enjoyed🐦
I watched this movie with my mom when I was a kid. It was the late late show feature and I fell asleep. Next day, my mom told me the rest of the story and told it so vividly that I felt I had actually seen the rest of the movie. Her describing it to me has stayed with me all these years. She was a great storyteller.
A truly great yarn. This was the first time I was able to watch this movie in its entirety. Agatha Christie at her best. Appreciate the 480p, too!
Ha ha, just when I read "yarn" the yarn came falling down.
The novel is darker and in my opinion is AChristie's best murder mystery. on the other hand this movie is lighter, and the ending is different from the book but still an excellent movie, the actors, the screennwriting, the photography everything about is is just brilliant. Loved it!
I wish they hadn't changed things
It's Hollywood things will always change
@DJ DaveRave aka Dave Gordon same person. The judge. He just went by Lawrence Wargrave in the book.
I suspect Agatha approved of the humorous changes :)
@DJ DaveRave aka Dave Gordon also in the book, nobody survives.
2021, and it is still considered as a 💎! Agatha Cristie is always superb!
Movie did not do justice to the Agatha s work, disappointed!

It's based on Christie's play adaptation in which the two leads survived. This was based on the play and not the novel. Russians did an adaptation based on the novel.
Thanks for up-loading. So much suspense and the message in the end is: LOVE !!! so: lots of love to everyone reading along, from Germany, Astrid
I successfully found it here, so yeah i'm watching it 💕
The wordless character introduction in the boat is genius
Just Brilliant
The Sailor seems like a nice fellow. He's just glad while doing his job and eating a simple sandwich.
I had not seen this in many a year. Had forgotten how good it is. Thank you for posting.
Thank you ❤ please add more Agatha Christie movies 🙏🙏🙏
I love looking at the old furniture and clothes
Same! And I always wonder if any of those objects still exist. I guess a lot of them were thrown to the garbage, others used in other movies, maybe one of them sits collecting dust in a film studiuos warehouse, maybe at an antiquary... or, again, just turned into actual dust at this point.
Me too. I love old things
@Flenif2247 yeah well I meant it because of the sentimental value because the objects were in the movies and I feel curious about their fate. Not because I care about plastic or not
Folsom Anna Hairstyles too
In those days people really dressed properly for dinner and outings.
Excellent movie in every aspect, I never get tired of watching it. Such a pleasure! Thank you for sharing.
I Love This Film!
A Gem!
Just like anything he does, Barry Fitzgerald is fantastic!
One of my all time favorite stories by Agatha Christie!
Love how vast the catalog of movies are on UA-cam. I don’t even need another streaming service to see all these
I’ve seen a number of versions of this Christie classic, but this is my hands-down favorite.
Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX
The Russian version is quite bizarre, they should have got an English speaking person to edit the sub titles.
Have you seen the new version with Charles Dance ?
@@maggiesmith856 Yes, it’s very suspenseful
Are the endings entirely different?
Seen it as a kid and it stuck with me all these years. I envy those who are about to see it for the first time.
I am so tempted to go work on Burgh island, just for the fun of it! :)
Haven’t seen this movie for a very long time. I had forgotten the ending. This movie was made when movies were great, too bad they don’t make them like this anymore.
How did Dame Christie come up with such lovely plots.. What a fantastic genius she was...!
Lovely is not the word for such a spine-tingling plot. But, yes, it's one of the best who dun its, if not the best.
Might have been through observing people....
Or, she watched the Ninth Guest in 1934. Parallels in the movies.
.
But isn't the ending altered?
Well, it wasn't who I was thinking it was going to be. The movie got me.
There were many more comedic bits than I was expecting. It was definitely worth the watch.
I genuinely thought it was lombard tbh
@@whatislife3967 Same, and when only Claythorne and Lombard were left i screamed “I knew it!” But then the judge came back and i freaked out
Back during my English class in High School, along with questions to answer, our final bonus question was basically who did it? Almost everyone answered the same person, and we were all wrong!
This is a personal favorite. The music always gets me. It's just brilliant.
The movie is actually better than the book. Just my opinion.
@@nmr6988 most of the time that seems to be the case
They don’t make ‘em like that no more… 😂
Good grief!! I cannot remember the first, nor last, time I saw this movie! Thanks so much for your upload(?) "You can not lock out the Devil...!" !Cheers from down under!
